In Australia, the best we can own realistically is a pump action centrefire rifle, and they're usually expensive.
Shotguns make for decent home defence, and are still decent enough to be useful aside from that.

kek, I've been meaning to get a leatherman

I know what you mean by the "UCP grey." Some call it "foliage green" some call it "ranger green" (The vest is Ranger green, that's what I use for a standard)
I wish they'd just sell "feldgrau" and keep it simple and consistent. Every time I order "Ranger green" I get something different.
Of course a few days in the field and it'll all look the same anyways.

Foliage green and Ranger green are different things, FYI. There might be fuckups by non-spec manufacturers, but the colors are supposed to be different.

"Foliage green" is straight up grey. It's supposed to be the same color as the darkest shade in UCP. That's what ECWCS stuff in solid color is in.

"Ranger green" is like a slightly darker OD. It should still be distinctively green though. The contracted Eagle Industries RLCS gear is the example for this.

I mean, if you buy another one you will have spent under the equivalent of an actual 6094.

I wouldn't compromise down to steel plates and still stick with ceramic and obviously the correct sized plates for you.

You always could try resewing a plate pocket but only if you know what you're doing else you'll Condor your plates while running or something.

Esstac mag pouches are fantastic, so good call.

A word about GP pouches on your belt... If you can avoid it, don't do it. Throwing a ton of stuff on your belt line makes running feel very abnormal because of the weight swinging around on your hips. Also you can still get a pistola with your Rpal fellow leaf. Nice carabiner dood.

Going out to local climbing Gym store and picking up two
http://www.gearexpress.com/petzl-spirit-noir-carabiner-black.html

You guys buy from "tactical" stores or what? I usually stick to rock climbing stores or "outdoors" stores for belaying repelling and "hold you up" kinda stuff.
>>
>>33006022
Either one is fine, both tactical stores and outdoor stores offer basically the same stuff when it comes to carabiners.

Minus the fact Im not sure id the use blucarpet has as I think that ones plastic. But I mean a carabiner is a carabiner, aslong as you get a metal one that locks youll be alright. Most are weighted far above your weight, and youll only spend like 10-20bucks max.

The more important thing would be to have a belt that will hold you up. A riggers belt especially with a cobra buckle, will likely hold you up in a pinch. I wouldnt go rock climbing for fun with it, but I mean in a pinch you could use it for sure. (Aslong as your belt is of quality)

I have the TYR belt enroute, and when I get it Im going to do a test with it rappelling. Ill let everyone know how it goes. Ofcourse it wont be anything serious, just a hasty belay.

I wasn't there for that thread, but someone linked me some of the videos and honestly it just makes me enjoy his Youtube content that much more because of the stark contrast between his personalities between the different channels.

The videos are clearly made for an audience, and while it might not be intended for us, I don't think it violates his privacy to know about the other channel. Of course, that doesn't mean you get a free pass to use the content without being an asshole/scumbag depending on the nature of your own posting.

I've heard this thing recommended a few times as a good softshell, and I've been considering picking one up.

I was thinking of getting either the coyote or the darker brown, darker brown would look more "civilian" and less military LARPer, plus I live in the woods and most of my gear is olive, ranger green or multi-cam, and I think those colors blend in better than coyote brown except for in the dead of winter when it's very dry brown.

I was also considering the green one, but I hate that the sleeve are lime green and anti-camo colored.

so i have a AR with magpul OD green furniture which looks kinda brown/grey to me compared to "real" OD green.

i am thinking about getting this ( https://www.magpul.com/products/firearms-accessories/slings-and-sling-mounts/ms3-sling-gen2 ) sling, which is also magpul and listed as ranger green.

think it'll look horrible even if the plastic OD seems off?

Use the gentle cycle, use a liquid detergent that isn't "color brightening" (something specifically for tech fabrics like Sport Wash is even better).

I'm unfamiliar with the Gorka specifically but most stuff should be hang-dried instead of thrown in the dryer.

Are helmets worth it? Specifically MICH/ACH
>>
>>33007196
ACH once you get used to it is pretty good for what you need it to do. You can find them sub $100 in new-ish condition and if you need more shit you can add ARC Rails to them for LARPing. I just keep a baseplate on mine for work and no cover for aesthetics.

>>33007260
I use an aftermarket chinstrap that cost <50 dollars and has seen constant use for 3 years. As for padding, Ive never had an issue, although I did get a long brow pad that has worked wonders for comfort.

But $200 seems waaaaaay to steep for comfort, Ive spent less than half of that with no complaints.

>point was..?

>>
>>33007287
just take what you take for a field op anon
>>
>>33007287
I've gone through about 4 different aftermarket chin straps, with the only one being worth even half a shit being the Ops-Core Headloc system (which is available in either x-nape or h-nape depending on NODs). And it's around a hundred by itself.

Replacing worn or nasty pads gets expensive, with a full pad kit running $25ish for USGI (they suck) or $100+ for any of the pad kits from any of the "good" helmet manufacturers.

If you want a dial system those are $150+ as retrofits. Far from necessary though, unless you're trying to run either the new super-high-speed hybrid binoculars that weigh a ton, or old-school NVG's like PVS7's that weigh a ton and stick out a foot. And even then, if you can tolerate an 8lb helmet, they can still be counterbalanced with a ballast pack.

You seem to be mistaking my comment about making an ACH
>good
as making it
>usable
They're entirely different.

But I do think that a bog-standard ACH is sub-par. I think the Ops-Core chinstrap is a 100% required upgrade (there's a reason it got an NSN) for NODs and highly recommended for general use. The pads I got in my issued helmet turned rock hard the second it dropped below 45* out, soaked up sweat like a sponge and took literally weeks to dry out (and would usually mildew) even in hot/dry climates like Iraq or the NTC, and that brushed tricot cover frayed itself in a matter of weeks to the point I was replacing them monthly (fortunately for free, cuz issued/DX'ing). I eventually ended up spending my own money on an X-Liner from Gentex (the guys who made my particular helmet), which lasted the remaining 5 years I had that helmet with none of the issues I had with the USGI pads (the Gentex also met or exceeded all the impact protection ratings of the USGI pads).
>>
If SHTF would you guys wear your fancy camos? Or just go for more of a greyman aesthetic?
>>
>>33007516
I completely agree that you need to mess with the ACH and throw away any issued shit with it to make it usable, especially with constant NODs use. But for what the average /k/ommando is using a helmet for, which for the most part isnt much, I can't see how they would be a bad thing to recommend especially for the price point. I severely doubt anon will go on a 12 mile ruck with ACH on and sit in an OP for 2 days.

TL,DR: ACH needs aftermarket, YMMV
>>
>>33007580
Can this grey man meme please fucking stop, it's just an autistic way to say, "dress like a normal person". If, for some reason, shit goes down, it will entirellt depend on what is happening that dictates what I do. If I can stay inside my house I will, if for some reason I need to leave, I will. I'll have my shit on me but everything depends on what's happening. A hurricane coming through and a violent revolution aren't going to warrant the same responses. Does that make sense to people?

Almost any other SHTF scenario is ludicrous, but bad weather is totally within the realm of possibility.

>>33007702
They were beige manjams, but camera sucked. The VHS was pretty dope though.
>>
>>33007587
And my whole point was that if all you're gonna be doing is LARPing around in the woods, either buy a plastic lookalike or go with a soft cap.

Even the absolute best, lightest, non-ballistic helmets on the market still suck compared to a PC/ballcap/beanie/what have you. ESPECIALLY if it's cold, because with good helmets you really can't wear anything under them and you damn sure can't have anything that covers your ears.
>mfw the heaviest thing I could wear under my ACH was some runner's skullcap made by Nike that was just single-layer nylon

I've never been a big fan of carrying a lot on the waist, but they seem to have done it right with that system.

The reality is the only real time I put in with kit is taking a course, competing or just dicking around on private property. That belt systems seems well suited to all of the above.

It also provides an excellent option to being extremely low vis, which is what I assume I would most definitely want to be if I ever had to use this kit with serious intention.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, just that carrying a radio around and GP shit on your belt is... Excessive.

>>
>>33008107
Pretty much this. I think belt set ups are the way to go. Most efficient for use. I mean you could keep it low profile if you had to (Just throw a jacket that is hip length on over it, most soft shells or rain layers would be able to cover it). It has all the basics needed, IFAK, Weapon, Ammo..

IMO probably the most useful peice of gear for gq shooters. You can use it at a range, or when you innawoods, or STALKER, or you could slap it on in SHTF, assuming SHTF is something like the stuff we have experienced (Katrina etc, where you need some level of security but not like armorius maxious russian invasion level)

The problem with belt set ups, is they are expensive if you do them right. HTC, Tyr, Ronin all great options, but all expensive, and not to mention all the add ons to that. But I think its worth it desu. A good belt is far more useful than an average chest rig in most shooters kits.
>>
>>33007991
I too had decided this, if only my local dealer would fucking get their stock in for it.
>>
>>33008138
Wew are there stories.

That being said its a huge paradigm ahift because all of a sudden you are fighting people with the same training as you. So the tactics are amended, and perfected because of constant field time, particularly when Russia would act up. Not to mention doing bad guy shit like kidnapping, IED emplacement, raids on towns and FOBs, psyops in villages, and alot of jokes taking advantage of the dumber IQ nations.

I wholeheartedly believe after basic training everyone should be forced to go to an opfor unit for a year.

Story:

>Be Georgian
>On patrol in middle of Germany, instead of eating bread back in the Caucasus
>Americans dressed in mandresses laugh at us all the time and kidnap our men
>Keep walking, all of a sudden something in the middle of the road
>Cardboard box with wonderbread sticking out
>mfw
>Other men in platoon see it, drop all bearing and run to bread
>So do I
>Kiril lifts box
>Everything goes white
>Powder all over me, camouflaged man runs out of bushes yelling in English
>Calls us all retards and tells us we are dead

This actually happened, only we were the ones that set the IED and this is a gross dramatization.

>Wait for 6 hours as gunfire subsides
>Door opens, TL walks in
>Tells me we are going to get revenge, plt was wiped out in attack and ran to the hills
>Drive to hill overlooking Georgian FOB, 240 in the back of truck
>Look down 145 at FOB, see Georgians in line getting breakfast trays

Well, what do you needs plates for, first and foremost? Vanity, peace of mind, actual gunfights and fragmentation?

If you need something protective, my advice is to save up cash for a good plate carrier a la 6094 or Mayflower APC, for something smaller a JPC or MBAV will also work.

Once you have a carrier, you can start thinking about what plates to use. The plates being sold there are 3A, and for most uses thats ok, but if you expect tobe shot by larger caliber rounds you might want to bump it up to level 4.
>>
>>33009611
You have choices for carriers. AWS and Mayflower are you going to be your best bet at the entry level. Plates can come from US Palm, Midwest Armor, or Hesco. Make sure you have IIIa backers if the plates say lvl IV ICW. That ICW means in conjunction with. If they say IV standalone they don't need a backer. Don't be stupid with your money.

My advise is this, if your looking for something simple just get a slick soft armor vest. It won't stop any rifles but should be alright for a pistol.

If you really want plates, spend the money on a nice carrier. There's no point on investing a ton of money on racing bucket seats if you drive a Honda Civic with a duck taped bumper

You have to account for the extra variable of cant as well as drop. That's not a long range type of stance, more for 50 meters and inside.

For somebody in the military and not just privately /gq/ing? Absolutely should be the minimum for anybody leaving the wire in a combat position.

If you are called upon to act as a dedicated base of fire or to shoot you're way out of an ambush (both things that can happen without a ton of warning), 7 mags is what should be accessible. They get burned through quick.

After 7 mags, that's when you start into that grey area and looking at backpacked mags. Honestly though, for military guys, whenever I hear of some guy claiming he had like 30 mags in a backpack or whatever I kind of call either BS or stupidity, because if you are hauling a bunch of ammo in a pack as a .mil, you're better off hauling extra machinegun ammo and being a team player.

Disclosure that at the time I did most of my dismounted stuff, I normally carried 7 mags accessible. 1 in the rifle, three on the vest, three on a belt. I could carry up to 4 more in a buttpack, but only did it on longer missions. I almost always carried a ruck full to the brim of explosives and tools, otherwise I'd have put some SAW ammo in there. The setup evolved much since pic related and is better than the picture by far, but that what I can claim to have spent the most time using.

This has been answered like a 100 times in these threads. Blanks are there for immersion. In an ideal game, like Caspian Gap, if someone see they are being fired on by blanks they will either seek immediate cover or fall over dead if none is available. Case in point. I "killed" about 20 Polish GROM dudes who charged our building from the subway saturday night at Gap with my blanks because they were running across completely open ground. It all depends on the game and who you have on the receiving end of your loud noise.

Never got to shoot it, it was a photo op after we had a HVT defense in a small town colloquially known as "Mud Hut" Ergos were good though, comfy as you can get with a bullpup, but this was three years ago so I dont remember too much.

So there are three types of field ops under OPFOR:
>Conventional
>"Insurgent"
>KFOR

Conventional is the big fight, mechanized warfare with tanks, helis, planes, etc. We wore black uniforms and used M4s, AK74, SAW, 240L, RPG-7, Stingers, and the MAST system (Manportable Aircrew Survival Trainer, which was essentially a shoulder fired laser that killed anything and recorded the kill, mostly used for aircraft but can be used against land vehicles also). our vehicles were VISMOD M113A3s in the OPFOR color sceme, "MBT" tanks which are 113s with a Bradley turret, VISMOD humvees, and civilian vehicles.

Insurgent was as it sounds. Wear "combat civvies" or mandress, depending on the task. Gear queer extravaganza, our unit issued us these low profile LBT chest rigs in tan solely for these types of missions. Run around with AKs, set IEDs, ambush convoys, kidnap soldiers, propaganda war, etc. Pretty fun, the funnest of all the rotation types.

KFOR was essentially riot and civil unrest training. We would LARP as pissed off villagers and do anything from picket in front of the mayors office, to throwing rocks, to fighting riot police. The most dangerous of our training.

You wear a harness and a head piece with sensors. When the laser hits within a certain distance ofa sensor or right on it, a very loud and constant beep comes out of the speaker in the back. Then you have to be revived by an O/C or someone with a shaved key or a god gun. The lasers on the guns go off using a sensor that detects the muzzle report of the gun and fires the laser. You also can zero the lasers but almost no one ever did it because its too time consuming.

There are other systems like a newer MILES (Its shit, you cant use other people's weapons because the laser is linked wirelessly to the harness) or the DICE system (bulky as fuck, but can do specific injuries for medics to treat).

Yeah our unit was all 11B minus the support personnel. We had tankers in Delta Company, but they dissolved and we took over their tanks. Gay as fuck to be honest.

There are three OPFOR units in the US Army, the one I was stationed at in Germany, which deals with NATO training and readiness as a "fuck you" to Russia (or serbs with KFOR).

One at Ft. Polk, LA which is an airborne OPFOR unit IIRC and trains units going to Afghanistan sometimes, usually they train the units east of the Mississippi before deployment. Never been there so i wouldn't know.

The last place is the dreaded National Training Center at Ft. Irwin near Barstow, CA. Gay as AIDS, 11 ACR is the OPFOR there and they ready up the units going to the Middle East or units going for rotational training west of the Mississippi.

JMRC (Germany) wears all black, Ft. Polk wears OD fatigues I think, and 11ACR in California wears three color desert and is the most funded of all the OPFOR.
>>
>>33016554
Polk wears OD, complete with alternate symbols for rank. Fort Polk's "Special Forces" OPFOR wear woodland BDUs. They also sporadically wear unconvincing middle eastern clothes for scenarios.

Fort Polk's "Local national" friendly forces wear either BDUs or DCUs.

I thought so but ive never dealt with them so i wasnt sure.

We had our own "SF" at JMRC, they would wear tigerstripe, but it later got changed to some tigerstripe multicam that was retarded because all the visiting US Army units would be wearing MC, so you couldnt ID targets or friendlies in a split second.

Either way they were tryhard faggots that got all the cool gear but were usually first to get killed or captured cause part of being "special" is having the training to do so.

>>33016662
It was, but the tempo for rotations is waaaaay too fast, I did 14 rotations before PCSing, and rotations last anywhere from two weeks to a month and a half. Minus the month long Romanian 'incursion". I liked it though, and am a better soldier because of it. Its nice to see just how shit all our equipment makes us. A dude in a mandress and three mags with the same training as a dude with 60+ lbs. of kit will usually go the way of the insurgent. Once the Army realizes that body armor and all this crazy tech is a hindrance against an insurgency, they can move back to light long range patrols and retaining maneuverability.

I'll be honest, my impression of OPFOR at Fort Polk overall isn't great. They tended to think they were hardcore motherfuckers, and more than once I overheard them in bars talking about being "basically Special Forces" just because they get to fight semi-irregularly. Imagine how a bunch of tryhard airsofters sound and it's basically that.

They also tend to set up ambushes that wipe out visiting blue forces, but only because the O/Cs will overrule the patrol leader's route selection and force them into an obvious ambush. Couple of those and you see patrol leaders stop giving a fuck about "dying" and all training value is lost. Polk OPFOR also games their MILES hard and will do tricks to make themselves invincible hiding inside a tiny bush, even against SAW fire. The fuck-fuck games are pretty junvenile and break the training.

I say this as somebody who had to train inside the scenarios a few times, but also observed from outside the scenerios and lived at Polk.

generally a "bullet proof vest" is a soft armor vest that is meant to stop pistol rounds. A plate carrier is just nylon meant to carry hard plates that stop rifle rounds.
