Really? I've seen people say they're the overpriced low-QC of AKs like DSA are to FALs

Are stamped, not milled Arsenals a mistake?
>>
>>32999977
If you legitimately believe any of that (except the DSA bit, DSA is mediocre at best and you can just buy a solid kit build for the same) you need to lurk moar as its obvious you haven't spent any time whatsoever researching anything related to AKs.
>>
>>32998988
There aren't that many parts kits that are cheaper than a factory ak right now, and most of them are romanian. I don't want to build a romanian ak when I already have a WASR and an slr-104fr
>>
>>32999855
Literally your only options are to build a kit, buy one and pay to have on built, or buy an arsenal.

Otherwise get a WASR or a PAP. WASR and PAP are interchangeable in my opinion. I dont know why you would care tho, my WASR shoots great. Just dont by anything american. All of them are garbage, there is not an exception yet.
>>
>>33000188
Always struck me as WASRfag sour grapes desu
>>
>>32999977
Sour grapes, friendo. All AKs by default suffer from the same basic QC problems and people think that means you should just get a WASR despite the arsenal being a vastly superior rifle. I wouldn't listen to the fags who are upset they can't save up $1100 for a new rifle

>>32999977
The people that say that are idiots who don't realize that they're fairly priced considering the features you get (mainly 24mm threads and folding trunnion) that alone would cost a few hundred dollars to buy parts and install. If you don't want those features then don't buy an SLR. Arsenal's SGL line are great but expensive because they're banned and their new fixed stock SLR107 is only like $850

Milled AKs in general are a mistake unless you're specifically trying to clone a milled military rifle

It was either $55 or $65, I don't remember which

These are my 74 brakes plus another faceted that I've gotten since I've taken this pic. I've thought about selling the factory brake but I'm a sucker for keeping all factory accessories so I probably never will

>>33000329
>since everything else is
Nah, the factory stock for that rifle was a triangle folder and that polymer stock is a replacement (still a take off from someone elses SLR tho), smooth top cover is off of an SGL, brake is a 74M long collar, and the handguards and pistol grip are Russian surplus black polymer. I've since installed a Bulgarian surplus FCG but that was a while after taking that pic

I bought a blem PSA kit. The only blemish was a small spot of rust on the base of the front sight tower. The sights were straight, and the internals were well finished (no casting marks, smooth, etc). I got it for $375 or so, and had all the spare parts to build it, so I figured a ~$400 AK that can (hopefully) do 5k rounds isn't bad. We shall see. Hopefully PSA keeps an eye on there shit. The AK market needs to grow, and this could be the first properly made US produced AK. Time will tell.

Did you have a hard time taking the factory one off? I had to use a blow torch and heat up the bolt until I smelled plastic burning (the red loctite) and then put a big fat screwdriver on it with a strap wrench around the screwdriver handle and a 4 foot long cheater bar on the strap wrench. but I got that bastard off and put on a beaver barf stock.

the replacement stock will be telescopic, people keep telling me to get AR -style buffer tube and put in an AR -stock, why is going through the trouble of getting two parts that each cost the same as a single part that achieves the exact same job (http://www.brownells.fi/epages/Suomi.sf/fi_FI/?ObjectID=108930)?

Valmets and Galils are the exception because of the angled receiver

Normal milled receivers with the big square cutout are ugly unless they're used to replicate a military rifle with wood

>Valmets and Galils are the exception because of the angled receiver
and I'd rather get either one if there were any available here, but Valmets are 1000€ minimum regardless of their condition & Galils aren't really an option considering they have that 'evil' folding stock which makes them fall under "any other weapon" -category & getting permits for them seems to be akin to winning a lottery, so it's got to be an AK with those soviet-style sights which I hate, then there's what AKs there are available, which seems to be mostly milled Arsenals, stamped Norincos & the odd Saiga here and there.

If it were Arsenal or something I could understand complaining about laziness, since they charge out the ass, but for a 500 dollar kit that just went into production I think people are complaining a bit too much
>>
>>33003198
>but for a 500 dollar kit that just went into production I think people are complaining a bit too much

It's not like they ramped up a new production line to start making these kits. It's just the AK's they've been making for quite a while now, minus the furniture and a trigger group.

>I think people are complaining a bit too much

If you are ok with shit like this >>33003037 >>32998699 >>32999007 then by all means have at it. But you shouldn't be too surprised when people who expect the things the spend money on to not have manufacturing defects in them speak up. On their website the blem products they sale are said to have minor cosmetic blemishes on them, not manufacturing defects. There is a difference.

Personally I'm glad I haven't ordered from them. I was going to until pictures like the ones ITT started showing up. I have changed my mind.
>>
>>33003252
Not new lines but they probably increased production and found every way to cut costs. Their cheapest kit is a little over 300 dollars IIRC

If the gun works and doesn't blow up then I don't have a problem, these are literally the bottom of the barrel for AKs, if you want something pretty to hang up spend the 1500 for an SGL
>>
>>33003291
>if you want something pretty to hang up spend the 1500 for an SGL

That was an odd thing to write. I don't think anyone considers an Arsenal a wall hanger.

PSA customer service finally got back to me regarding my incomplete/shitty red wood build kit. Apparently they sent the wrong screws, hence why they just dropped into the holes... I am just going to return the kit for a full refund

Also my bolt and carrier look very much like the other pics here people have posted, they have offer to have it shipped back to them, I believe so I may receive a forged one instead.

They have offered for me to send back the barreled receiver for a full refund as well... Im still on the fence about whether or not I should just do and and buy a WASR or something instead.

it's starting to sound like people in this thread are trying to coax people into getting an AK from a specific manufacturer but don't want to be branded shills & as such keep shooting down anything that isn't the AK they want people to buy...

The arsenal stuff is mostly shitposting, and the milled vs stamped "debate" only elicits those responses because of the fuddlore surrounding milled AKs.

the solution to canted wasrs is to inspect before you buy. I picked up a wasr at a local store for the same price they had on Atlantic at the time. I would have had to pay tax on it anyhow and it saved me a transfer fee and shipping. Sights are straight gasblock is canted a mm or so left but not enough for the piston to even rub. All rivets are good some a bit sloppy but all are tight and not pancaked. Magwell is also solid with the polish surplus mags I have. The only drawback is that new wasr wood is shit, might get a poly set for it at some point.

most us made aks are shit, I prefer stamped over milled because of weight although the sam7f I looked at was the smoothest ak action I have ever felt. Both Arsenal and Wasr are good AKs it really just comes down to personal preferance and features you may want. In 7.62x39 I would go with a wasr for 5.45 I would go with an arsenal although with 5.45 you really dont get much of a choice. Arsenal does have better fit and finish than the WASR but both will preform similarly to each other in reliability and accuracy assuming neither has factory defects.

so, regarding my earlier question; in past when I mentioned I was planning on getting a telescopic stock for the AK I was planning on buying I was instructed to get an AR -style buffer tube & then put an AR -stock on it, from what I see the tube and the stock attached to it cost far more than pic related, is there an actual advatage in paying more for two parts that do the same job as the single part in the pic?

Not gonna be 100% here by a long shot, but from context clues and what I've been told, b / y is some way of denoting that it's used/not NOS, drain a little might mean it has cosmoline(??), relaxed, and the retained/sloppy stored is probably related to gently used/not stored well or something like that

I'll keep looking, I found one for $900 but that doesn't include shipping and FFL and all that jazz, so I would guess another $50 or so. I'll keep that in mind though, thanks m8.
>>
>>33006128
got 800, should i get a wasr or mossberg 500/nornico sks?
>>
>>33006150
Np

If you decide you want a folding stock later on too it'll cost you more than a factory arsenal would. Although I think the saiga sporters can use a 5.5mm folder. Someone might correct me tho
>>
>>33005968
WASR has 146% more guaranteed giggles
>>
>>33006157
I'd say WASR. Mossbergs aren't going anywhere and while I do love my SKS, I'd take an AK over it.
>>
>>33006177
fair enough, figured 2 guns for the price of one but wasr's have been going up in price so i think ill get that.
>>
>>33006157
Not him but for $800 I would go for the wasr. SKS' are something you get nowadays only if you want an SKS specifically. And with the Mossberg, I would go for a maverick 88 over the 500, basically the same thing just some parts made in Mexico, they're also a few hundred bucks cheaper if you get one new, if not look for a used 500.
>>
>>33006198
Gonna go with the Wasr, just dont like the furniture, any way I can refinish it or should i just get some furniture from online or somewhere?
>>
>>33006215
You can get a much better set of surplus wood for about $30 online, The stock wood they ship with isnt as bad as the chink export wood, but it's not very good.
>>
>>32998557
DAKM 4150's were in stock at Atlantic for 1150. Out of stock now but they say they'll get more.
Worth? Or just go for the SLR-107 when it's back in stock?
>>
>>33006225
romanian surplus steel mags or pmags? also whats some good ammo?
>>
>>33005968
Wasr, continues to increase in value. And more fun IMO.
>>
>>33006264
I dont have much experience with surplus mags but ive heard that they're all pretty good except Korean mags. Ive not used pmags on an ak in a long time but when I did they malfunctioned every few rounds, might just be my dads gun, but no other failures from it in the last decade aside from the pmags. Maybe theyve gotten better, I dont know but I would do some research on them if I was looking at them.
>>
>>33006264

>>
>>32999664

Yugo steel mags are still on sale at AIM for dirt cheap. They should have a 10% off coupon code still going for their 20th anniversary.

They didn't finish milling that area.

A CNC machine operator is not necessarily a real machinist. A machinist would have caught that and never let the part out the door. I've some down-low personal insight into PSA operations and paying a button pusher to swap out parts is different than paying someone who knows what properly machined parts should fucking look like.

I'd buy PSA parts, but I'd inspect them carefully. Other makers of bargain-basement firearms have QC problems too. It would be easy to dedicate an inspector or two but that costs money and one or two workers adds up to a lot of lost profit. It's cheaper to write off a lot of blems since gun parts don't cost shit to produce in volume.

What has this different from the normal brakes and excuse my ignorance.
>>
>>33006111
when I bought mine I just looked down at the sights top dead center and saw if they appeared to be canted, keep in mind slight cant is only an aesthetic issue, cant only becomes a problem if you have to adjust the sights excessively. If you have a decent eye and they do not appear canted to the naked eye you are good to go. To be fair I have a pretty good eye from wrenching on a car and wood/metal working.

wouldnt be hard to redo the wood mostly just sanding staining and applying finish an oil finish would be just fine I would go with teak oil over linseed oil hell even mineral oil over linseed oil Teak oil does not go rancid like linseed will. consider picking up a used romy stock set for like 30 bucks like anon said and if you want to then at that point redinish that it is worth it because the wood century uses on the new wasrs in not all that great and is a bit soft. It could look fine when tefinished but it will ding and dent much easier than things like the wood on my nugget.
