Which actual Kalashnikov?
You mean the original stamped AK47 type 1?
None of them. All modern AK designs are based on the AKM, AK74, or the AK100 series.

I'm a poorfag

I'm thinking I want a PSAK as my first AK because its only $500 for the whole thing and Rob Ski said they're good, my only other real consideration is one of the new fixed stock Arsenals that are $850. Is the Arsenal worth more than 50% more for a rifle with the exact same features, it doesn't even come with the side folder and 74 muzzle brake like the $1000 Arsenals do.

>>33012151
WASR
>>
>>33012173
Hard to find currently and where they're in stock they're $700ish, I'd rather throw in another $150 at that point for an Arsenal
>>
>>33012219
Than get the arsenal.
I've been considering that one as well but what I really want is the 107fr
>>
>>33012257
Yeah, but I think the PSAK may be worth it, you can't beat a $500 AK that runs well, unfortunately its my understanding that the 107fr series isn't coming back until MAYBE summer

According to Arsenal, it won't be until 2018.
But like most importers, they'll err on the side of caution.

>>33013523
I'm assuming yours are all BXN (I mean I'm sure they are considering you're vzbro)?

I've only got 40 BXN clips again that I bought when I first got the rifle. I've come close to getting more but in reality 40 is plenty for both using and storage of ammo (as I say this I've got nearly 80 5.45 clips so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯). It's weird, my vz is one of my favorites but I never really went all out and bought a ton of extra stuff for it like I have with a lot of my other guns. My vz is really the one gun I own that I still kick myself over not buying more stuff when parts and accessories were cheap. 7.62 AK cheap stuff was before my time, I only got into 5.45 like two months before the 7n6 ban so didn't experience much of that cheap stuff, but i lived through the entirety of cheap be stuff from when I was 18 with a vz til when it all skyrocketed a half dozen years later and didn't take advantage of any of it. >I still kick myself over not buying more stuff when parts and accessories were cheap
Yeah, I bought the extras right away, but I still didn't get in on the $600 vz58 rifle itself. It was 900 at a local shop. Now my new $60 full folder stock assembly is more like 120 or something. I got it scoped up and all that jazz for, the brass deflector was still the hardest thing to track down for that. That was also when romanian pso scopes cost 100 instead of the nearly 300 they go for now, got 5 of them, 4 are in use.
>>33014368
Store your stuff on google drive, and download on demand when you need your proper pics. Works great for me, except I don't think I can download webms since at least the iphone has no regular "file system" support where I can just store random stuff to upload. But I think it's the overall more convenient phone OS, so whatever, I'll give them that, as much as I hate apple in every other way.

I don't think 545 clips are all that convenient for me, so I never use them. I have 8 and 2 spoons. They are definitely faster, but just not nearly has easy to use when you have to pull the mag and have 3 pieces to work with on top of that because now you have a gun slung because you need your hands, and the mag/spoon/clip to work with.
But I almost exclusively carry stripper clips as spare ammo for the vz. The vz strippers are more handy since they're pocket sized, and you just slam them right through the gun into the mag.

Yeah keeping the clips loaded when stashed away is wonderful. It makes everything so much easier. I used to always keep a spam can of 5.45 loaded on clips and as as soon as I shot them all I'd open another can and load it on clips. Having an extra ~1100 rounds loaded up on clips ready to go is both great for storage and great for just grabbing a can and plinking

The 7.62 clips are way more useful with the vz than the 5.45 clips are for the AK, but I dunno I've never bought any more of the BXN clips than I've already had

>>33014504
I've had a few thousand rounds of chicom 7.62x39 over the years that was all on clips and yeah I've always just given the clips away. I still find them occasionally lying around too, I'm haunted my long lost Chinese stripper clips that don't work in my vz

When things were cheap I bought two folding stocks (one was NOS and one was only like $20 and beat up but worked that I finally sold for like $70 a year or so ago), three bayonets (all sold now because lol no bayonet lug), an extra piston and piston spring, and an extra bolt, carrier, and their respective springs. I don't remember how much I paid for the internal parts but it was cheap. I can't look at Czechpoint's store because it makes me upset for not buying a ton more when it was all cheap. Buying 5.45 mags is an addiction and I know wholeheartedly that I'm never going to need as many 5.45 mags as I have, but eight vz mags (plus one ten rounder after you're recommendation a long time ago) isn't really all that much. It's enough to get buy with but I want more, I just hate spending money on them when I know how much I could have paid if I was smart as a teenager with cheap parts

It triggers people to hear this but in all honesty Russian made AKs aren't even considered the best. They're good but they have the same problems as every other AK manufacturing plant. There isn't some huge gap in quality between Russian AKs and everyone else, they're really all about the same.

Kalashnikov himself believed Bulgarian AKs to be the best quality and considered Yugo AKs his favorites.

Quiet day at work, so I spent a bit cross-sectioning a 7n6 round. Crap picture, but the real camera is at home.

The 8 is Izzy too

Also what do you know about the proof markings? It was my understanding that plums got a silver H on the spine and true black a silver M near the feed lips but my Izzy has no stamps and my Tula has a stamp in both places, but the feed lips one is worn down a bit
>>
>>33015494
>>33015502
Kewl
>>
>>33015644
The izzys should be fairly consistent having the M stamp at the front lug on the left side, with the exception of the rare Y stamp almost-black plums which are late production.

The most consistently appearing stamp on Tula plums is an upward facing E shape right underneath where the M stamp would be on an izzy. Tula plums also sometimes have some large crazy stamps placed directly on the side of the mag towards the bottom, those usually seem to be earlier production Tulas and are very desirable, you don't see them often.

If your low mold number Izzy is in good condition but has no traces of an ink stamp in that position, then it may be that the early Izzy plums did not get the M stamps, I don't really know if that is the case or not.

>>

Dang 8 and 10? My lowest is only 14

Chimps, do you know what the lowest mold number for true black mags is? I know it's early-mid 40s. I'm currently sitting on 12 true blacks and I've bought probably three dozen or so from Russia over the past year but I only keep mold numbers I don't have or particularly nice ones, and the lowest true black mold number I've ever gotten is 45 while the highest plum mold number I have is an Izhmash 41. So, at some point between 41 and 45 they switched, I'm just not sure when specifically or if they ever produced plums and true blacks at the same time (I don't think they did but I've never actually looked it up)

Mold numbers are interesting

>Using an abrasive lube at the temps the gun operates at

the clay base is abrasive unless the lube is hot and liquid, as is what it was designed for, using it on your gun is bad.
>>
>>33015187

your leaf is defective, its not supposed to sit or have a spot in-between the battle zero and 100m
>>
>>33019926
It's a purpose designed slot, that would be a heck of a malfunction considering everything lines up except that specific position.
>>
>>33019926
I've seen several AK's that have that notch, don't think I've seen one that didn't, but I don't really pay attention to that stuff.
>>
>>33019926
>>33019969
My Polish AKMS has that notch too. It's not a defect.

My SKS doesn't have that notch, a Norinco.
>>
>>33020000
My Romy SKS has one, I think >>33019926 might be mistaken here, or he's never seen one, which is possible since obviously not all have them.
>>
can someone tell me the difference between slr 107cr & fr? They both seem the same.
>>
>>33014484
Unfortunately I live in a relatively densely populated and mildly terrained state, so hiking with an AK is almost out of the question.
>>
>>33020022
Any idea if it's a second "combat zero" I remember reading a translated soviet manual (or something) that mentioned two different combat zeroes, I think they were both for the same caliber so it could be.

If not it's a 50m mark probably.
>>
>>33020023
the cr has a shorter length and weighs less, it's also got a 500m sight leaf, fr has 800m. Only differences I saw.
>>
>>33020023
oh the barrel and shorter length

My LGS has an RPK on their counter that I'm looking to buy. I asked the roof Korean that owns the store how much and he said "make me offer."

It's a CAI imported m64 RPK in 7.62x39. What should I offer the man? I'm thinking $800 - $900 based on numbers I'm finding.
