hey guys, never bought a gun before. a shop near me is doing a sale for a diamondback with rails but no sights for $474, and i have a nugget never been fired i would trade in (was a gift when i was a teenager)

i am not 21 yet so i cannot buy a handgun, but last night i began questioning what the point of owning an ar as an average joe is. i was never military or law enforcement, it doesn't serve a practical purpose or application, i don't live in a rural area where people and wildlife are a constant thread, and i would imagine that if a rifle were to be used for self defense a prosecutor would likely try to fuck you over due to its high stopping power (eg why didn't you just use a handgun?)

is the only reason to own one of these simply because muh freedoms?
