Manticore Arms AK Flush Fit Side Fold Adapter
>>
>>32853458
Jmac makes a adapter so you can use a m4 tube and stock.

Manticore makes a tube adapter combo that has a cutout for side rails. Allows for a slimmer folded profile.

Neither of these options will allow a folded stock to latch to the front of the receiver.

That AR-type selector on the right side seems like it'd be uncomfortable if it goes down past the receiver wall. There's a reason most AR ambi selectors have 1 short/1 long switch, and why selectors are the single most popular aftermarket part for the Scorpion Evo.

So /akg/ I am getting a GP WASR 10/63 with the g2 trigger and muzzlebrake, 5 mags loaded, and a soft case w/ pouches. I found out my tax return is a little more than I thought so I will have about 550 left over alone from that...

What should I get?

Should I just get rid of the wood and put all the rails and all, or just get donger and ammo?

Another gun?

I thought about getting a Russian FS/GB, having someone competent rout the gas correctly for it, cut the barrel down to proper size, get a smooth dust cover, and have a 5.5 trunnion installed in order to make an AK104 pistol, but that's a lot of cash and time just to have an incorrect 104 clone.

For the amount of time and cash spent, I figured that I'd rather just do it right with a parts kit, a better receiver and a polish barrel.
>>
>>32853438
Rifle is fine
>>
>>32854330
If you're going to fret over details like Russian vs Bulgarian FSGB, or 5.5mm vs 4.5mm hinge, then it's a complete waste of effort to do this on anything less than a 7.62 Saiga
>>

I'm pretty much done with my AR build and I'm interested in building/buying my first ever AK. I know next to nothing about AKs and they're current market though.

1. What are some good AK brands?
2. Should I buy a complete rifle or build my own like an AR?
3. Should I get an AK in 5.56/.223 so I can get cheap ammo and more importantly use one caliber across both weapons?
4. Any additional advice?

>>
>>32855697
1. Not Century _built_ (some of their imports, like WASR's, are fine) or I.O., probably not DDI

2. Unless you have a press and welding experience buy complete or a PSA barreled receiver

3. Personal preference, I don't like having two guns of the same caliber just because I like variety. 7.62 and 5.45 aren't any more expensive than 5.56

4. Avoid Century _built_ and I.O. Prepare to pay 3x+ more for AK mags than you do for AR mags.

5. Avoid Century _built_ and I.O.
>>
>>32855697
>they're current market
Their*, fuck.
>>
>>32855697
1. Arsenal, WASR, Saiga
2. Good luck building an AK.
3. No, get 5.45 or 7.62.
4. If you want a nice entry-level 7.62, I'd recommend Arsenal's new SLR-107-11. Don't get a 5.56 AK as the mags are much harder to find and usually pretty shitty.
>>
>>32855645
I have a Polish akm that I built from a parts kit and I have three parts kits that I'm working on,the bulgarian ak74 underfolder I posted,a Hungarian ak63d that will have a 103 style front end with an amd 65 stock and a numbers matching 1969 izhmash akm parts kit that will be all original. Yeah an underfolder as a primary is kinda iffy but I'm doing it cause I have other ak's otherwise I probably wouldn't lol
>>
>>32855738
Yeah I'll probably go with an underfolder once I buy another AK because they look sweet, just wouldn't want one as primary. I definitely say go for it if you have others.

>>
>>32855777

>>
>>32855697
1. Arsenal, WASR, VEPR, SAIGA, PSA
2. Buy complete, unless you have a 20 ton press. AKs don't go together like ARs do.
3. Buy a 7.62x39 for your first AK. 5.45 and 5.56 mags are rarer and more expensive. 7.62 ammo is cheaper than 5.56.
4. Lurk moar

Arsenal, Zastava, WASR, Saiga are the only brands/types you should be looking at. I own all but a Saiga. My M70 (Zastava) gets shot the most. Really fun and rugged. Arsenal does my long range stuff. WASR is just there for backup. It was my first AK.

2. Buy complete parts. AK's are a bitch to build in America. By no means impossible, but much harder than it was to build your AR.

3. Since you have an AR, sure. It'd only be useful for ammo & mag swapping. But be warned of getting anything in 5.56 in a SBR AK. The ballistics are absolute shit with it.

I had no AR stuff so I went 7.62. The ammo tends to be cheaper, too. And nearly all AK's eat Tulammo just fine.

5. Do it, nigga! You won't look back, AK's are fun as fuck.

Don't want to ruin the springs on my other mags.

I'd skip Tapcos and just buy metal for range work.

It's a 1949 dated manual for the Type I AKs which shows they were designated as the AK-47. I imagine due to the frequent updating they just dropped that naming scheme and started calling them all AKs (which explains why the AKM is not the AK-47M).

>>
>>32857657
I've never understood the argument some people make that there was never a rifle called an AK-47.
>>
>>32857883
Because the Type II and Type III AKs were not called AK-47 people assumed the Type I was also called AK instead of AK-47.
>>
>>32857902
Because the majority of the manuals and literature I see just refer to it as the AK (Cyrillic characters). That manual was new to me, and I appreciate the education.
>>
>>32858037
Right, due to those manuals usually being later manuals. The Type I manual is pretty new. Think it was only found last year or late 2015.

Would not recommend the GB2 wooden furniture build kits from PSA for the PSAK at the moment.

I picked one up for my barreled receiver and it's not good... they pre-drilled the holes for the stock to mount on the rear trunion, but used way too large of a bit, so the screws just drop right in, can't secure it for shit. Plus the kit I received is missing parts; upper handguard spring and butt plate screws were not included, not that it matters for the butt plate, cause the holes for those are way off center (and probably too large, again).

I wouldn't have bothered if I knew the furniture was made by Boyds...

I emailed them over a week ago and haven't heard anything yet, just sent them another fucking email.

Oh man, thanks for typing that up. Fuck Boyds stocks. Fuck them right in their ass.
I ordered a nice stock for my durr rifle from them, and the pics on their site did not include the black plastic plugs that are visible in this pic I found on google.
After my stock arrived and I saw those plugs, I went back to their website and found the exact stock I ordered and sure enough they weren't there.
Long story short, in order for me to return the stock I would have had to pay shipping plus a 20% restocking fee. So I wrote them a nice hateful email calling them cocksuckers and assuring them I was going to point out their deceitful tactics on every forum I could find, which I did.
Now the pics on their website include those black plastic plugs.
>>

>>

You could be charged with intent if you have a stock laying around.

If you permanently filled the part a stock could be attached to, it'd be 100% okay.

Same situation as building an AR pistol and using a standard buffer tube. Not inherently illegal, but it could be shown as intent to make an illegal SBR if you had a stock somewhere.

>Saiga will have bayonet lug and cleaning rod holder
I don't care about these, I'm not going for a purist build.

>I just buy Russiaan optics so they slide right on
I've played with a few Russian magnified scopes and was thoroughly disappointed with the glass quality. I haven't had an opportunity to play with their red dots but the spec sheets look...bad. Especially for the money. It'll probably get a PA MD-ADS I have lying around as a spare until I figure out what I want to do with it.

>RS Regulate
Took a look at them, they look solid but bulky/heavy compared to the MI. Will keep them in mind though. Due to the above point I really need a picatinny mount since I have several optics just laying around that use it.
>if the Saiga was professionally converted
I have no clue. Fuck. Sold through a local store. Will probably need to ask them who does their conversions.

Ok, next questions.
>vepr will need to be "converted" (bullet guide and whatever needs to be done to the magwell to take regular AK mags), which I'm confident I can do myself.
But what about replacing the factory thumbhole stock? Are the current ones compatible out of the box with regular AK stocks, or would I need to replace or modify anything (rear trunnion or whatever)?
>vepr comes with a tack-welded muzzle brake
I'm assuming under the weld it's threaded 14x1LH like all other slav stuff?
>are there any quality AK's out there that are threaded 5/8x24 like American shit so I can use my vast spare parts bin?

How much deformation on the rivet inside the receiver (rivet for the trigger guard I believe) because of the FCG is normal? I've got a normal old Arsenal two stage trigger in my SLR-104 and when cleaning it today I noticed a small notch worn into the rivet from the FCG contacting it when firing. Should I be worried about this or is it normal?

Also, should I bother with a retaining plate for the FCG or is the normal old factory Arsenal shepard's hook good enough? I'm planning on filing off the humps on the trigger and polishing it to remove the two stage effect, and while I've got the FCG all removed I'll replace the shepard's hook with a plate if it's needed or optimal.

It's like that to prevent trigger slap though.

The problem with the ALG ones is that the area of the disconnector tail that contacts the trigger guard rivet is much smaller. The impact is distributed over a smaller area. Plus there could also be engineering differences that cause them to hit harder, having to do with spring weights or the geometry of the disconnector.

You realize the bullet comes out of that hole correct? and if that hole is offset than the bullet is going to be going off to the right and down.

>>32861129
>>32861168
I posted it to show that cold hammer forged barrels still have problems and bore offset is one of them, sure arsenal replaced it but it should have never of left either factory in that condition, someone at Arsenal US literally had to cut it down and re-crown it (SLR-107U's come in with a 16 inch barrel and are cut down and re-crowned in the US) and obviously would have seen it. The point I'm making is most will defend Arsenal at every turn but another manufacture in the AK world fucks up and we all hate them forever even if they get it fixed.

Way to prove you don't know jack shit about what you're talking about. It was tested and doesn't affect accuracy or reliability. Yes it's a defect that shouldn't have left the factory but the rifle is still perfectly functional. Fuck off

None of the other manufacturers sell folding stock trunnion rifles with non-US made CHF CL barrels and correct parts.

How to sell good AKs in the US:

That's true but no other manufacture outside of the US makes a correct AKM. And those folding stock trunnion rifles with non-US made CHF CL barrels and correct parts (in 7.62x39) wont be coming back until 2018 as well.

I'm still pretty butthurt about arsenal using a 90 degree gas block for their new fixed stock AKs. If they had used a 45 degree block it'd have been close enough to satisfy me.

>And those folding stock trunnion rifles with non-US made CHF CL barrels and correct parts (in 7.62x39) wont be coming back until 2018 as well.

I'd rather wait a year than buy an AK with a US made barrel.

The engineering is there, its basically a collab between ddi and psa which between them both have experience making ak's. There was thread on akfiles flaming ddi's owner calling him a sellout, my how stupid people are.

Now they are using billet for trunnions and bolts etc. Sooooo you have a baseless argument.

Psa offers a lifetime warranty for these bitches.

One 5,000 round akou test is honestly worth about 10 other youtube channels reviews/tests mate. Nobody goes as hard as they do on them for as long.

Not really, more like 80% at most. Others make them too. I've made about a dozen since we started numbering threads and a few more than that before numbering.

But again, the reason why it probably won't be included is because nobody is going to read it and will continue to just ask oдин зa oдним and it'll just be another thing to copy and paste into a new thread.
