>>
>>32827278
I wasn't going to take it initially as I feared the worst in terms of scrutiny and hurdles to face. After one days of doing the NR course I signed up for the instructors Restricted course which was a week after finishing the NR course.

Funny enough, after mailing all my information and such I didn't get a peep from the CFO/RCMP and neither did my references. I just received my license after about 4-5 months.

NR was in February, R was in March. Mailed out end of March, received my license near the end of August 2013.
>>
>>32827408
How are handguns more fun to shoot than rifles? I think they're pretty boring.

I am baffled that we actually don't have any constitutional protection of our property rights.

>>
>>32827588
Doesn't bill C42 protect us from that arbitrary ruling of "Hey, that was an SKS they used. That thing is prohibited now."?
As far as their talk of removing C42, the liberals haven't actually done it right? Unless they've been very quiet about it.
>>
>>32827642
IIRC C42 removed the RCMP's ability to arbitrarily reclassify a firearm to they had already classified to a less restrictive category.
The Libs pledged to throw C42 out, but of course JT has been too busy taking selfies to actually do most anything he said he would so far
>>
>>32827676
I think none of the libs even care about guns because the general public doesn't even know you can get a gun easily.
>>
>>32827692
They talk a lot of shit when the topic comes up, but it's been a little while since they're actually done anything.
During the passing of C42, it was JT who was spouting off bullshit about it letting people carry loaded guns around and leave them in their cars at the supermarket. Evidently he knows absolutely nothing about our laws.
I hope they're aware of what anti-gun policies will cost them in votes.

This.

Plus it was 6 dead 8 wounded in a room that probably had about 40 people in it. (The Imam i think said there was 100 people in there but the women and children were upstairs) Nearly 33% of the people in that room got at least 1 round in them.

Either way I've never cared for scorekeeping things like this.

He likely had an unpinned mag though. And he had 2 rifles I believe so that was probably to economize time on reloading.

If it was the Vz58 it was a fairly expensive shooting for a college student to pull off.

Global news is reporting that their sources at the coroner's office think the wounds are consistent with handguns, not rifles. I guess we'll find out soon enough, but the AK-47 claim may just be journalistic competence.

Getting reasonable notice for entry always makes me feel like going for a midnight boat cruise. Just hope I don't crash the boat into anything in the dark.

To the guy in the previous thread
>As for the statistics, you're straight Phil-tier with your decision to blame it all on one criterie (the subject's religion) and not the fact that the majority of said religion live in 3rd world countries, which by and large are more violent and less concerned with human rights due to the high rate or mortality and other issues which plague the populace. The simple fact that the vast majority of those living here in the vest don't follow the same kind of shit that those in the 3rd world do, proves the case.
Doesn't invalidate anything that I said. It's almost as if 3rd-world theocratic countries have a culture that is inseperable from their particular interpretation of their religion. Doesn't change the fact that letting them flood in by the tens of thousands is not a benefit to the host country, or that this action carries with it a hightened risk of bringing in violent extremists.
>>
>>32828916
I hope that ends up being the case. Bunch of people claiming an 858 was used, hence the "AK47" bit from the news. Though no matter what kind of firearm it was the libs will still push for stricter laws, so I guess it's all moot anyways.

A pistol owner in Quebec has additional hoops to jump through vs. RoC thanks to Loi 9.

They could use it as an excuse to further tighten laws, but I think they'll instead sort of sweep it under the rug, because it's a giant fucking embarrassment to them that their pet law didn't work.

Having said that, we're probably due for some more obnoxious rules changes.

Add the general rebellious nature of the 60s, and their power evaporated pretty quickly (but they fought really dirty to prevent it, which damaged their rep further). Then some priests got nailed kiddie fiddling among other things.

>I read you can get 10 round mags if someone decides to manufacture a "handgun" that takes the same magazine and ammo.
Ah yes, the pistol rule.

If a magazine can be used on an NR rifle *and* a pistol, generally speaking, the legal limit will be the pistol limit.

Why this is a good thing:
>10-round LAR/XCR-L pistol mags vs. 5-round AR mags

Why this can also be a bad thing:
>10-round S&W M&P 15-22P mags vs. 25-round S&W M&P 15-22 mags
>10-round Mossberg 715P mags vs. 25-round Mossberg 715T mags

Basically, it's good for centerfire, and absolutely shite for rimfire.

>All this liberal bullshit in education and the media is just pissing people off at this point.

I am a high school teacher in Saskatcheawn. A few years ago (getting close to a decade now that I think about it) there was a new educational program instituted. As our projected Native population was statistically likely to surge, for every school grade, Treaty education was to be developped and integrated to be more inclusive, the tag line being "We are all treaty people" (we got the land, they got native rights).

By the time these kids hit highschool, and I get the chance to teach history, they all moan "We're tired about learning about treaties and natives, we just want to learn regular history."

And this isn't just for those classes. Every class, from science to math, is expected to incorporate some element of Native culture into it. Yes, even math, and you should hear the math teachers moan about how stupid that is.

The overexposure is turning the kids into soft racist who feel bad for being white.

BUT IT ISN'T THE PROGRAM IN MY OPINION. It is the delivery method. Teachers are teaching it really poorly.
Just today, I showed kids Treay 4, which they had all claimed to know about. Except none of them recognized it as pic related. None of them had actually seen it. When they realized it was a picture, they started asking "How do you interpret that?" "Where does it say healthcare and hunting rights?" "Is that why Treaty rights keep changing?"

Additionally, they bithc about them being lazy and shiftless, but when you explain the long term effects of institutionalized abuse, they kind of get why they're fucked up now.

Teaching about Trudeau Senior's White Paper is a hoot though, especially today.

>>32830413
*I better correct myself now. That isn't actually treaty 4, but the only "indigenous interpretation of a treaty" meaning the treaty how the natives understood it instead of the white man's words.

Long story short, the kids get a better understanding of how the natives weren't entirely on board with what was sold to them.

>>Fucking kids are given the chance to learn about the constitutional debates of the 80's and 90's or about the history of gays in canada. They choose the latter.

To be fair, the latter is easier for them to understand and shit out a powerpoint presentation about. Also, they are more familiar with gays than the constitution in general. Constitutional Debates takes actual thinking skills to understand and present on.
As a teacher, I would make a presentation on the constitutional debates of the 80s and 90s as an example of the presentation I want them to make (make it clear enough your peers can understand it) and have them chose from a list of recent Canadian social crisis, one of which could be gay rights.

I was getting straight A's as a grown-ass man. I thought the homework & tests were laughably easy. What the hell happened? Did they soften the curriculum a bit? I don't really consider myself a smart person, so I don't think it had anything to do with my ability.

Kek. Theoretically you don't need to take the safety course if you're over 18 (or 19 I can't remember), just pass an exam and then start the application process. Your instructor/examiner will know more. You can start by googling 'CFSC' and clicking on the first result

It could be a combination of factors.

Most of the time, if you can show up, sit down, shut up , and do the work, you'll pass now problem.

Fact of the matter, back in high school, you might have been too busy with being a teen (getting a job, a license, a girlfriend) to actively try. As well, now that you're an adult and came back by your own free will, you have more intrinsic motivation to suceed. ANd jsut being more mature.

Our division director one day came and told up graduation rates were sub 80% ON A THREE YEAR SCALE (grade 10, 11, 12)

If you stretched it to six years, so kids who dropped out could go see the real world, realize they aren't going anywhere without grade 12, and went to regional college to get a grade 12 equivalence, grad rates went to over 90%. (The previous statistics do not apply to natives. They're numbers are much lower, but even stretching to to the 6 year scale increased their rates.) But paying for 6 years of high school instead of 3 is too expensive so we don't use that statistic, even though it is a fact of life.

For what you want to do, you will need to take three courses, possibly only two. I live in Ontario, so things are different with regards to the Hunting licenses. The first is for your PAL. This can get you your basic rifles, like 10/22s, SKS's, etc, along with Shotguns. The second test and course is for your RPAL, AKA your Restricted license. You can get handguns and fun rifles with it. The courses take place on weekends, and go over two days, with over 10 hours of class time. Both courses would be less than $300 CAD, and as you said you do have to renew them. The firearms courses and hunting courses are separate, so you need to take them at different times.

Here is a great site that quickly goes through the whole process: http://www.howtogetagun.ca/

So do I. But I don't hate Natives. Statistically, yes, it is more likely they're going to be the bottom rung of society that I hate because they are a drain. But I hate Listerine no matter what gender or ethnicity they are. Peopl complain about natives, but it isn't them being native that is the problem, it is the poverty. I have had native neighbours, coworkers, and friends that were better than some white people I know.

It isn't that they are Native. It is that they are subject to poverty and become burdens to society.

fellow nbfag going through it. CFSC and hunting course are part A and Part B of a two piece course $60 each, CRFSC is a separate course that also costs that much. I took my CRFSC as a 2 day 9-5 course on the weekend. Trying to find a CFSC that is both close to me and on an agreeable schedule, but they seem to be making it intentionally difficult for you if you're gainfully employed with a 9-5. Like, making it an evening course all week starting at 5 an hour's drive away, or a weekend course where I'd have to get up at the asscrack of dawn to drive for 2 hours to get to on time.

There's no more challenging the courses anymore. I didn't have any idea why it would take 16 hours of lectures to go over ACTS and PROVE until I actually met the people in my class, half of which were proud dropouts bragging about getting the costco jobs what with the benefits and all.

Nope. The Supreme Court rejected the idea that there is a right to bear arms in Canada in one case, and they refused to hear another case where the BNA Act was invoked as an argument for this right. It's pretty much legally settled unless there is an amendment to the constitution.

Can we have faith that the Conservatives won't fuck up and elect O'Leary? He can't possibly beat Trudeau.

>>
>>32832479

>>
>>32832433
Many people are calling O'Leary the Canadian Trump. Whether that's a valid assessment or not is a different story.

It's no news that Canada has way more SJWs than America. More Canadians hate Trump than Americans. Therefore, it follows that Canadians would also hate Maple-Trump.

Then there's the fact that many pro-gun Conservatives hate O'Leary. Nogunz Conservatives either like O'Leary or don't give a crap either way.

The SJW liberals are planning a way to ensure O'Leary doesn't win. Many people who traditionally vote LPC or NDP are planning on paying $15 to become a member of the CPC, and vote in a non-O'Leary candidate.

In short:
>liberals and pro-gun Conservatives work together to keep O'Leary out
>CPC makes money off their enemies
Perfect.

On the other hand, native culture is a backward-looking, ancestor worship based paleolithic hunter-gatherer one. That doesn't exactly help with integration into an advanced industrial Western culture.

Do all natives adhere to it? Obviously not. But recent efforts to push that shit down natives' throats (in the form of traditional revivalism and "fighting back against colonialism") are just going to further distance them from Canadians.

>>32832630
>no more handouts
Pretty much. It is through adversity that people get the incentive to strugge to succeed.

I was watching some program where the reporter was visiting some remote reservation and was filming all the people complaining about how terrible their living conditions were. Inside their houses there were holes in the walls, toilets destroyed and the residents shitting in buckets, and generally filthy conditions. Houses do not degenerate like this on their own. Holes don't magically appear in drywall. As with virtually every instance of this shit around the world (the Australian aboriginals are a great example), any "free" housing is very quickly rendered unlivable because the residents didn't have to lift a finger. If they had to work their asses off and scrape pennies to afford a house, you bet they would keep that shit in tip-top shape.

Bernier said "Firearms Act should be replaced with effective legislation that protects property rights and cracks down on dangerous criminals." but to my knowledge hasn't expanded on that. I know there have been murmurings of a CC type law in Canada but I've never seen a politician back it. He also pointed to the dumbass shit in their records where they had half-built a school in an impossible location and had to tear it down, spent 100K on a zamboni, spent tens of thousands that was just labelled in the book as "goose hunting" with no explanation, etc. Also they had a huge band council for such a small community that were all highly paid.

>>
>>32833139
The RCMP is directly in charge of managing the Canadian Firearms Program, there is no way around sending them your info.
And even if they weren't running it, every time a police officer looks you up on their computer it shows if you have a PAL, and if you do they can check what restricted/prohibited firearms you (legally) own.
>>
>>32833164
So I cant go get my pal and buy a sks at a parking lot some where?
>>
>>32833183
Sorry I have a large distrust for governments and 4473s and would like a small as possible paper trail on case some cop decides to go kick in doors for snatching peoples guns.
>>
>>32833183
When you get your PAL, you can legally buy firearms and ammunition.
For a restricted, the RCMP has to approve the transfer and the gun has to be registered to you before you can take it home (takes usually about a day, unless they're really fucking around)
For a non-restricted, there is no registration or any bullshit like that. The seller has to look at your PAL before they sell you a firearm, but it's literally an honour system that they can't enforce.
So you can have 100 non-restricted firearms (including SKSs) without the government knowing about it, but they'll still know that you have a PAL and can pretty safely assume you have at least one firearm somewhere.
>>32833198
And wisely so, but there's not really any way around it here
>>
>>32833183
SKS is non restricted so it's sale isn't necessarily tracked nor does it have to be registered (Except in Quebec I think). But the fact that you have a license is.

You get a criminal record check run on you every morning, and if something pops up expect a call from the CFO's office.

All restricted/prohibited firearms are registered.

Also if they suspect you own more than 10 firearms they can request a visit with minimum 24 hours notice and in that visit they can search anywhere a firearm could reasonably be stored.

The only people I've heard of it happening to are people who go on non anonymous gun forums and brag about their 6 gorillion sidearms.

>>32833363

Probably not.

I'm just saying what the law says.

That's the extent of Orwellian crap they can pull within the confines of the law.

And even people who do get a visit, usually if you are cooperative, they'll just want to see what your storage setup looks like.

As far as NR guns goes, there's really no way for them to determine you have any specific amount, unless you are going around on the internet bragging and shit.

But either way, it's one of those things that just exists as a tool for law enforcement, but rarely ever gets called upon.

Downsides versus AK is the wood stock, exposed open bolt design, but not much else really. (Besides the obvious limit of no mags)

But treat it well, and it'll treat you well. They've got around the same number of moving parts, shoot same calibre, and SKS due to longer barrel and piston stroke some say you get a touch more accuracy.

Formally/professionally diagnosed Autist with my PAL and RPAL. Own two restricted firearms and didn't have a problem getting either one.

No history of violence (am a girl though, so fighting's not in my nature) but I acknowledged on my application that I went through an episode of depression a couple years earlier and reported it subsided after a few months without therapy or drugs (it was situational and I just had to process what'd happened).

The RCMP wanted my physician to confirm the information I'd provided and unfortunately my doc was on a sabbatical (waiting for his return took up four of the seven months). Once my doctor filled out the paperwork and the RCMP had received/reviewed it, I got my license in the mail in just one week.
>>
>>32833228

Actually, all businesses in Canada that sell long guns (Cabela's for example) have special, limited access to the RCMP's firearms licensing database. By law they have to look up your license to make sure it hasn't been revoked for some reason.

The RCMP could be logging every store-initiated database check (and by cross-referencing those checks to one's credit card purchases, they'd technically have an extremely rough version of a long gun registry). We'd never know.

Which is why people protested the long gun registry by exchanging non-restricted guns without notifying the RCMP/CFO. To show how dumb it really is.

Why not do the same with the Restricted category? As a means of protesting the registration?

It's a good thing the registry got scrapped if people were exchanging long guns as you say.

Exchanging restricteds--besides breaking a number of laws--cannot be a protest if it's done covertly. Protests involve communication and under the table gun trades are silent. Do this and you'd just be a criminal who fails to practice what he preaches.

They were very vocal about it with the long gun registry. They weren't just exchanging with one person either.

>besides breaking a number of laws

Which technically these people were doing with the non-restricted firearms. They were declaring it while doing it without the express permission of the RCMP/CFO.

The big reason to wanting to scrap the long-gun registry (besides it being dumb) is that people weren't registering every gun they had. Lots of guns went hiding and a person would register a .22, a shotgun, and a hunting rifle. Everything they purchased after was registered but you'd have large collections that were not registered. There were even plenty of people who completely ignored the registration and still used their firearms anyway. This is easier to do in say rural communities as people were less likely to give a shit.

Why do you think banks wouldn't be completely in bed with CSIS?
>>

Although CSIS and RCMP are different organizations with dissimilar mandates and purposes, it's a common fact that they share information.

Too many windows, sorry for previous off-topic answer.

Banks tend to be protective of customer info unless there's legal pressure for them to disclose it. CSIS gathers intelligence--banks wouldn't be able to access this info nor properly utilize it even if they could get to it. Banks have very little to gain by being close to CSIS.
