Well the tank up above had no shielding and was not able to pass over the amount of terrain the AT-AT was

Also, the AT-AT was initially not shielded, but according to nu-Didney canon they shielded them after Scarif.
>>
>>32680723
Also the Republic used the AT-TE which is the more accurate precursor to the AT-AT

In Star Wars people prefer walkers to tracked for some reason, even though walkers are slow af
>>
>>32680757
>>32680735

The Scarif AT-ATs weren't the same as the ones that landed at Hoth, they had less firepower, less panels covering components, and no Ray-Sheilds.

Not sure if they were prototypes, handed down to security duty roles, or if they were just a cheaper (lighter) model for the Shore Troopers

The Jugg was a maintenance nightmare that broke down often and we're pure evil to repair / replace parts on the drive train.

You see those "tires".. you see how they look like a bunch of disks.. that's because they are.
Independently driven, planetary geared, disks.

The Juggernaut is not a 10 tire vehicle, it's 80 "tires" on five drive axles.

The bitch was fast, and armored as fuck, and probably designed by the French as it can go just as fast in either direction.

They're still in use by the Empire and one of them is used in R1, it's just that you never see the battles they partake in.

Why is every Empire land vehicle so huge? Meanwhile, the Rebels have MLC-3s which are conventional tank destroyers with no real gimmick beyond twin blaster barrels to prevent overheating, with their largest ground vehicle being the AT-TE.

Star Wars space battles are based on World War Two naval battles. Rebel 'aircraft' are analogous to land-based aircraft that tend to be bigger, heavier, and more powerful than their naval cousins because they don't have to be made to fit the confines of carrier operations.

The AT-ACTs were ray-shielded, the door gun of the U-Wing had to chew through the shielding on the knee joint.

>>32680735
Because the Empire had a military-industrial complex so ingrained that it'd make a Lockheed exec orgasm to death and was lead by a guy with a hard-on for wunderwaffen, shows of force, and yes-men. The AT-ATs were supposed to be fuckhuge and intimidating while spitting out firepower usually found on starships, never mind the fact that it would take minutes to respond to any flanking or rear attacks, had to traverse its cockpit to aim its weapons, and disembarking took forever.
>>
>>32680723
Because George Lucas had a much higher operating budget for his artists and animators during the production of the prequels due to the ridiculous amounts of money that he swindled from moviegoers in the late 70s and early 80s.

I've always felt the Scarab from Halo was superior to the AT-AT.
It's truly all terrain. It can climb over buildings.
It orbital drops onto the battlefield from space.
It's autonomous without a crew. Works same way as hunters do.
Plasma turret on top for 360 coverage.
Large main gun on front.
Can quickly lower and deploy troops.
Can't be tripped.

Although it is susceptible to Spartans
>>
>>32689272
>It orbital drops onto the battlefield from space.
This is the only reason I'd consider it superior. The AT AT requires dedicated transport which is obviously a huge logistical nightmare if you're invading someone with any good AA, or you don't have literally flawless air superiority.

The armor on the Scarab is clearly trash since 5 shots from a 90mm firing HE can cripple the entire movement system of the thing (Obviously game balance mechanics, and the books are far more true to the lore where literally nothing except spaceship tier weapons can hurt the thing)

It's obviously more all terrain, but in terms of weapons it's a toss up. I'm not too into fantasy cross universe fights but I'd be willing to bet that the AT At outguns a Scarab.
>>
>>32689156
>War robots are a fucking retarded concept anyway
DARPA and the army don't seem to think so
>>
>>32689156

This.

There are no circumstances a bipedal war machine is better than the alternatives of tracks, wheels or airborne.
>>
>>32682186
X-wings are also an old holdover from the early Republic and were designed as a long-range interceptor capable of taking on gunboats and smaller capital ships. Hence why they have jump drives.

It would be like comparing an F14 to an F20 Tigershark. [big, fast, powerful, expensive] vs [small, nimble, cheap enough to produce literally billions of].

The Empire's expeditionary forces are pretty much built around brushfire wars and suppressing mostly-undeveloped indigenous species on their home planets, for which they'd dispatch only a single battle group and that battle group had to cover the whole fucking planet, including both atmospheric and exo-atmospheric airspace. Small enough to get hundreds in a Star Destroyer and cheap enough to afford to put hundreds in a Star Destroyer trump best-in-class weapons/shielding (and jump drives) when good-enough weapons and shielding really are good enough.

>>
>>32689527
It tripped.
I'd be fine with them if the legs were mounted on the side like a spider instead of under it like en elephant. That way it could better stabilize itself and better suited for "all terrain"
>>
>>32684908
you don't know shit about how an elephant walks. they lift two legs at a time to walk, front left and back left or front right and back right.
>>
>>32689298
granted the 90mm shells are pure tungsten if in game dialogue is to believed. That much mass and weight going that fast will fuck shit up man.
>>
>>32689312
mountainous/urban regions would be one of the best places to use them. The rugged, rural regions of Afghanistan or cramped city streets or allies.

>small enough to stay with infantry outside of some buildings and go where traditional vehicles cant go
>big enough to carry multiple weapons a simple RC drone wouldn't be able to.
>fire support found on mounted platforms now in a more mobile smaller profile platform

There are uses for it, just not all encompassing ones that will have them replace traditional vehicles.

Most likely, they'd find use with MEUs, 10th Mountain, 82nd, SOF, etc.. Light Infantry units where heavier vehicles would be a hinderence.
