The reason I drove 45 minutes is because I've used a local gunsmith in the past for a different job (removing the magazine safety on a Hi Power) and he fucked up his job, which forced me to learn how to work on Hi Powers. I was hoping not to have to invest another $100 in tools when I can just pay a professional $30 to do it right. Clearly I was wrong. The problem now is that I'll have to drive 45 minutes each way just to bitch at them when I might be able to do the job at home easily.

I don't want to name shame the gunsmith, but it's the same guy who was mentioned in one of nutnfancy's videos. Surely an autist like him would be able to recognize a skilled gunsmith? Apparently not.

I'm still pretty damn concerned about the hole in my barrel, though. This really doesn't seem normal. How do people normally deal with this when converting a non-ff AR into a ff AR?

Getting upset at me for using a professional for a cheap, quick job only debases yourself. I don't build many AR's and I don't have much of a workshop in my apartment. It doesn't make much money sense for me right now to get all the tools to do this when I may only use them once.

>I'll say it again. It is for the front sight block.
But how do people normally deal with it when installing a ff handguard on a previously non-ff AR? Just leave the raw metal exposed like that? Is there no way to fill it in? Maybe by putting the old pin back in?

Fucking hell maybe he thought you were so much of a cuck he decided to play a practical joke on you and install your VG6 Gamma for maximum muzzle rise.

Probably was hoping you would come back with a shit eating grin

It's not like I couldn't have installed the muzzle device myself, but I knew that to install the free float handguard, he'd have to take off the old one anyway, wasting a crush washer, so I gave him my new one to install while he was at it.

It seems like it would be a bad idea to continue to torque it down to properly index. What store can I get a crush washer that has the fastest shipping?

Are there any shims in there as it stands? If I were you I would probably try to crank it down another 180*

The key isn't to be a fucking woman, and realize that if it is taking too much force, stop tightening. Of course to know how much force is too much requires experience. But hey you've got to start learning somewhere right?

>>32202566
>I'm not upset at all, though.
Oh cool neither am I. Sweet, no one is upset.

>I'll wait for someone to give a straight answer.
Jesus fuck lets try to break it down:
I implied that putting the old pin back it, or at least attempting to do so (it may not be tight), would be akin to thinking like a man. If you've not too chock full of feminazi bullshit you might recognize that thinking like a man is a good thing. Thus, attempting to put the pin back in to block the hole might be a good thing.

Or you could just leave it, or maybe hit it with some paint to prevent the steel from rusting, or whatever your rational capability convinces you to do!

>Are you saying that it's not a thing to convert a non-free float AR into a free float AR? For some reason I thought this was normal.

It is normal. Extremely fucking normal.

I am ready to get a stripped lower for my first build since pistols can only reach out so far that I can accurately hit. I am llleaning towards going with a noveske gen 2. Looks uncomfy and ugly as fuck. Try Quarter Circle 10, they're relatively cheap. If they don't have M Lok distributed yet, they said they were going to soon. There are also some US made Noveske NSR knock-offs for like $50 but I'd be suspect as frig.

Nigga it's like $15 for a vise block, $18 for a barrel nut wrench, $3 for a 3/4" open end wrench, $8 for a breaker bar and $7 for a punch set from Harbor Freight. Then you'd have everything you need for any AR15 job on Earth, assuming you already have normal human tools like hex wrenches, a hammer, and other drivers.

Also holy moly, settle down, your shit is fine. The only thing wrong is that you were scared to do the work yourself.

>defensiveness
Huh? You mean aggression right? Insecurity maybe, but defensiveness? Oh wait I get it, defensiveness to my own insecurity?

Try to torque it down another 180 degrees. Stop if it gets too tight. If you don't feel competent enough to attempt that, order a new crush washer and install the muzzle device yourself.

Feel free to install a pin in the hole. It might prove a good solution, something you can share with your fellow AR15 enthusiasts. If you don't feel competent or confident enough to attempt such ground breaking scientific experimentation then just hit it with some paint, leave it, or make a thread on arfcom about it. Alternatively go back to the gunsmith monkey and say something about
>hey what is this hole can you do something about it, it bothers me.

Was that agreeable enough to get past your defensiveness?

The PA MD ADS after a mid-tier mount and the Tango Down cover is like $250.
A PRO can be had with factory mount for $350 during a sale, or $432 around there.

The PA MD ADS is plenty stout, and most certainly a good optic. The Aimpoint is going to be more stout, with better glass clarity and durability.

I'll tell you this much. I'm trying to sell my 16" to fund an Aimpoint right now and hopefully the PA MD ADS will go with it.

yeah i just realized this as I was pricing everything out. it's not really that great of a deal when you factor in the mount.

i'd need a cover also to hide my poverty-tier optic.

I got my first batch of 5.56 rounds today and I must say I'm actually surprised at how small they are. They're obviously bigger than my 22lr and my 9mm but I envisioned them being 33-50% larger than they actually are based solely on the mental 'omg babykilling superammo' image that is used in the media. Compared to a Scmidt & Bender no, they are not good. Compared to low end Leupold, Burris, Bushnell, Simmons and all the garbage /k/ typically buys they are quite good.

And no matter the cost, they are very good for the money. Especially so considering the warranty.

>>
>>32204805
If you want repeatable adjustment, a specific reticle, strong construction, warranty, high light transmission, low distortion, positive clicks, optical clarity or any of a dozen other things, you cannot make do with a $200 optic.

There is a significant drop off in what you get from a scope past a certain point, but that point is nowhere near $200-300. For example, a $1,000 scope is very much superior to a $300 scope for a lot of reasons. But a $4,000 scope is not very much superior to a $1,600 scope. I'd say up to $1,400-$1,600 you will see definite quality-of-life features that benefit you.

If you can't see the benefit to the features an expensive optic has, there's really no convincing you.

>thousands of dollars more than economy-tier optics

whatever you need to justify your stupid purchases.
