I had a chat with a fellow on the Chong campaign. Chong would be alright, and might go for suppressors in addition to the standard Conservative bit, but won't go for magazine limits or anything like that. The guy I spoke was actually also a gun owner as well, and said he was fairly familiar to the issues with the laws and would attempt to advise Chong as possible.

Anyone GTA anons go to Silverdale? How is it?
>>
>>32017013
It's okay... nothing terribly special. It's a good place to take someone to introduce them to shooting, plus its the closest outdoor range (for me at least).

RO's there seem okay, never had an issue with any of them.

Holy fuck tell me about it, I was just there the past Saturday and despite my best efforts to avoid the numerous potholes there, I fucked two of my shock mounts... $278 repairs later. Fuckers... that money could've gone towards a shotgun.

The roadwork there is seriously Aleppo-tier.

anyone ever email them about it?
>>
>>32019595
If my local ON ranges are any indication, that's unlikely
>>
>>32019718
their actual instructions imply an email will suffice:
>1.Proof of completing a Club Level Handgun Course.
>2.Proof of valid membership to a CFO certified range.
>3.Request an invitation for use of your firearm at Silverdale by email

but they must have some sort of criteria for rejection otherwise why have the rule to begin with.

Looks like you found the criteria m8. Ranges in my area typically offer that course along with membership, and don't offer it whatsoever to non-members.
>>
>>32017013

It's fine. Not too busy when I went on a Saturday morning. Plenty of ranges to choose from. ROs not too much of a pain in the ass. As a non member the price is good but it's far.

Why are law abiding gun owners punished for Mohammed Al-Ahmadi shooting Vinh Phuoc Tran with a converted machine pistol he bought off Spotted Bear or Paco Rodriguez in a drug deal gone wrong?

What does Canada's gun crime look like if you adjust for non-whites? What % of gun crime is actually committed by license owning whites?

really though, there is no good reason to go with 30-06 other than fuddlore
>>
>>32023293
more case capacity is fuddlore. who knew?
>>
>>32023320
the difference is ball powder vs. stick powder

you can fit more powder because it takes up less room with ball powder

also do you not know that pressure ratings are a thing?
>>
>>32023293
You can actually load 30 06 pretty hot before running into pressure signs when usong some of the powders. Guy was throwing 208 gr amaxs at 2900ish fps iirc
>>
>>32023320
Case capacity only mattered with crappy old powders. We have a much better selection of powder now and many are much more efficient.
With the higher pressure of 308 there is no real differnece between the two.
>>
>>32023337
If you care to look at your reloading manual, you will become enlightened.
>>
>>32023369
how many people actually do this with 30-06 though? <1%?

the overwhelming majority of the time 30-06 is for fudd lore not for hand loads

also 208 gr at 2900 fps is standard for 30-06
>>

>also 208 gr at 2900 fps is standard for 30-06

>>
>>32023411
From my Lyman manual (49th), same powder (IMR-4350), same bullet (200 grain jacketed HPBT). Starting sugg grains

.308- 43.0 grains, 2145 fps, 36,000 lb-ft pressure

.30-06- 49 grains, 2380 fps, 39,900 lb-ft pressure

Lyman doesn't have any 220 grain bullet loads for the .308, but it does for the .30-06.

If you search around on the internet, you'll find that the larger case capacity is still relevant even today, especially for hunting larger, meaner things.

Loads and ballistics are mostly irrelevant when it comes to normal handgun shooting
>>
>>32023288
I zeroed my pu scope by first aiming at the bulls eye with the irons, then seeing where the reticle was and adjusting accordingly, but thats not "zeroing" cause my reticle was far to the left so i had to shim it with a dime, and re adjust, if youre reticle is to the right the you have to grind off a tiny bit from the mount, its quite a process. Dont expect to be ringing gongs at 300m off the bat, use multiple sources on zeroing pu scopes, and zero at 100m, the 0 on the top dial should be your zero, the other numbers are your distance.
>>
>>32023703
Kay i think i remember how i did it, after aiming with the irons and moving the reticle to the bullseye which resulted in it being far left and high, so i shimmed it with a dime to move the reticle to right, and then use the dial to move on the bullseye again which zeroed the windage, once thats down unscrew the dial cap so it can be turned without moving the reticle and move it to 0, thats youre windage zero, elevation is easy, since mine was high, i loosened the top elevation screw on the mount a 1/2 turn and tightened the bottom, then simply turned the dial so the reticle was back on bullseye, unscrewed it and put it to 0. Since i zerod at 100m, if i was shooting at 200 id put the dial to 1 cause its a 100m adjustment, and so on.
>>
>>32023808
So left and right is fixed after you correct for it, and then you adjust your up and down according to range?
>>
>>32023858
Yea but honestly thats just what worked for me, like i said look it up yourself, if you want a properly zeroed scope it takes time. Also i got the left and right mixed up, if its left you grind and if its right you shim, i used this when i did mine
http://www.mosinnagant.net/sniper%20section/mosin-nagant-sighting.asp
>>
>>32023443

What you're talking about is primarily for long range precision target shooting.

The Coriolis effect doesn't matter when you're dumping your 10 round pistol mags into steel plates at 15 yards.
>>
>>32023546
.223 is good for everything up to white tail deer. At that point you'll want to use the heaviest load you can find though. Larger than that is possible, but you run into ethical kill issues.
>>
>>32024249

.223 isn't even legal for deer in some provinces.

7.62x39 performs roughly as well as .30-30, though, so your trusty SKS is an option.
>>
>>32024291
That's more of a legal issue rather than what the round itself will reliably take. You do raise a good point though, if you want to hunt with .223 you'll want to check the legality first.
>>
>>32023443
Yeah of course. I (poorly) just blast at targets for shiggles. No reason you can't either.
>>
>>32023571
http://forum.snipershide.info/showthread.php?t=120574

as far as factory loads, i've got the berger, hornady, and nosler books right here and the highest speed they have listed in the 190's (which will be slower yet) is a bit over 2700fps. Its worth noting that boxed ammo is almost never loaded near max pressure.

Show me a box that has a 200+ pill going over 2700. you'll probably find them in the 2400's.
>>
>>32023443

If you want to learn about that stuff i've got the equipment for loading and I've shot out to 1100 before with someone teaching...

Sup. I've got a sporterized No. Mk. III Enfield. What's wrong with .303? Can confirm the magazine is shit for SMLE's though. Constant jamming from magazine to the loading chamber. I'd say like one out of every 10 gives me an issue.

>>32027657
the largest issue for me is ammo price an avilability

also i think having it in 762x39 would be neat
plus its in terrible condition
>>
>>32027702

It's not thaaaaaat much cheaper. I get mine for about 40 a box and other sizes are generally between 30-45 anyways. Availability is an issue though. Only one place in Hamilton that I know sells it and I have to go downtown for it. Canadian tire doesn't carry it anymore for some reason which blows

The range is surprisingly mediocre and low budget despite it probably being the most popular range in ontario. they have rules on their site, and they're pretty shit regardless of whether you're a member or not ex. no rapid fire, can't stand and shoot at some lanes, etc.

SOME CNC routers can cut softer alloys of aluminum, though definitely not as quickly as a proper mill.

I don't remember what routers the company I used to work for uses, though.

Are you guys doing cabinetry? Here's a fun time/cost-saving tip: Cut a V-notch ALMOST all the way through the board and then just bend it. You'll still have to fasten the two pieces together, but you end up with a nice looking edge and it's a hell of a lot faster. Whenever we could, we'd make our box-shaped objects like that. Drawers especially.

Funny thing is its illegal to conceal a firearm so if you didnt have it in a case but was still unloaded and trigger locked you wouldnt be doing anything illegal.
>>
>>32030518
Well one day i was walking up to the Poco range at the top of Burke (was like a 25 minute walk from my place and i didnt have a vehicle) and there was a big accident on the road. I stopped to ask the officer if it was okay that i continued to walk up the road and he said it was alright. Then asked what i was doing. So i told him i was heading to the range. Asked me what i was shooting, told him sks, and he said "nice, well have a good day shooting sir"

So what i get out of these experiences is just dont be a fucking retard autist

The more axes you can control, the more complex the shapes you can create.

Being able to tilt the tool, rather than just move it linearly along the X/Y/Z axes, means you can have complex overhangs. It would also allow you to, say, inclined it so that you can use the whole length of the tooth to cut a smooth inclined surface instead of having to do a billion passes and then still end up with a rough looking surface.

Random curiosity Canada-specific question

for guys who have popular Glocks, like 19 or 17: saw picrelated while browsing and began to wonder, how do the "factory 10 rounder" mags differ from say standard pinned to 10 mags (assuming those are available)? are they constructed in a different manner internally? are there standard Glock mags pinned to 10 even available on the Canadian market and if so, do you prefer them or does it not matter to you?
>>
>>32032932
>“This seizure really shows the dangers facing not only officers, but also members of the public with the proliferation of guns in the city,” Heaney said.
"We need a mandatory firearm registry so we know which criminals have registered firearms at all times even though they won't be getting them legally." comes next.
>>
>>32033523
not a canadian so i cant comment on the pinned mags. the 10 round mags are singlestack with a bunch of polymer around it to make it the correct size for the magwell. you cant convert the 10 round to fit more.
your normal 17 round mag is a doublestack.
>>
>>32033596
Different person, I got my first handgun a couple weeks back - fn fnx 45 - it's 15 rounds pinned to 10. I notice that it's very difficult to actually fit 10 rounds in.

Is this just the case with .45acp and it being hard to load mags past that or simply a result of the pin? I assume the latter
>>
>>32033634
its probably a combination of brandnew mags having strong springs and how they pinned it. how they pinned it is probably the largest factor since all brands limit mags differently
>>
>>32033064
So the journalists just wrote misleading information and published it?
>>
>>32033634

Either that or semantics-stretching.

The dictionary definition of "machine" is as follows:
>an apparatus using or applying mechanical power and having several parts, each with a definite function and together performing a particular task.

So yes, guns are a type of machine. But then again, by this logic, you could argue that chopsticks are technically machines.

In short: liberals gonna lib.

oh ok, that's fine then

i've just seen too many guys disappear from the world because their gf/wife wants them to "spend time together" because they have no hobbies or interests and their boyfriend/husband having them pisses them off for some reason

We just do store fixtures and cupboards. Shelves, islands, cabinets, custom stuff like that. We have to replace the edgebander so hes planning on buying a cnc and a matching edgebander. Its a small business, repetitive, but comfy. If i can, i would want him to get a machine that can also do metalwork as well as wood, so i can fiddle around with it. I have no knowledge of these machines btw.

FANUC CNC controller.jpg
60KB, 400x400px
>>32040481

The vast majority of companies that manufacture CNC machines will purchase the controllers from FANUC, Siemens, etc.

Which controller it uses will change the way you need to write the code for the machine, be it manually or through a software's encoder. Regardless of whether you use software that is proprietary to the CNC machine or whether you use MasterCAM or anything else, the machine basically has a "profile" in the software so that the software can export the GCode in the appropriate format for that specific machine. There are a LOT of variables that can be changed in the machine's setup, so it's really important that it's done right, otherwise you could easily end up crashing the machine or cause severe injury or even death. Look up "CNC Crash" on youtube. If that doesn't sober you up, I'm not sure what will.

I had the benefit of working for a company that worked in metal, wood and plastics which also did the powder coating and plating in-house. We mostly did store fixtures, but I did work on a few pieces of office and restaurant furniture. There are a number of stores that I worked on literally every fixture there, lol. I worked a lot more with metal than I did wood or plastic (I'd say ~80%), so I may not be the best resource here for woodworking.

What CAD software do you guys use?

I'll check up on nearby schools and such. Would there be a college course or something that can teach this? I want to be efficient by also fitting it in with a machinist course. If not then eh, just a logistics problem.

If you dont mind me asking, if im building a computer, what would I look for if I want it to run CAD software nicely
>>
>>32040996
Depends on how complicated your models are going to be and if your gonna get into the stress/strain end of it. FEA/FEM are pretty resource intensive. For what it sounds like you're doing just get an i5 and 16 gb of ram and it will do fine for years to come. I do my modelling on a old i5 with 8gb and its been fine.
>>
>>32040996

Some schools will have machining mixed with CNC and CAD. It'll take a couple of years, but you should be able to start applying the knowledge and skills pretty quickly to your work.

For CAD work, here's what I would suggest:

>SSD for OS, HDD for storing everything else
>No less than 16 GB of RAM, 32 would be better

I'd suggest no less than 5x 120mm fans. More and/or larger fans would be good. Don't skimp on cooling.

Toolpaths can take a fucking LONG time, too. You make up your investment quickly when buying better hardware.
>>
>>32041063
I guess if hes dropping 100k+ on a cnc machine a 3-5k computer isnt aajor expense.

Only tool pathing i did was really basic on a 3 axis haas. Pathing for what hes mentioned so far should be pretty basic though right?
>>
>>32041107

Unless he plans on making anything even remotely ornate. If he's doing stuff for homes (which it sounds like if he's doing kitchens), then that's definitely a very real possibility.

Imagine how long it took to do the toolpath for something like this...

>>
>>32041053
Thanks friends, I might also look into portability as well, mayne build something in a suitcase or a toolbox. Also to transfer things to the CNC, does the computer need to be connected to it at all times or a usb transfer or something is just fine? The workplace is pretty dusty, might not be a good place to have a computer sitting around

>Failing that
?
>>
>>32041130
Oo thats pretty. I doubt we would be doing anything that complex, but we did have a job off sherbourne and bloor, and that neighborhood is essentially mansions, so it might happen, like you said. Seems like a good skill to have anyways
>>
>>32041158

There ARE laptops you can buy that will work, though you'll pay a lot more for the same performance as you would a desktop, you won't be able to as easily upgrade it and, honestly, I wouldn't want the computer in the same room as a CNC router. The dust would wreak havoc on it.

Most CNC controllers do have a USB and a serial port, though you're better off just hooking it up to your network like you would a printer or something and sending it files that way.

>>32041158

>Failing that
>?

If you can't afford a high end Quadro card, GeForce GPU's will work fine in most cases.

To put it simply, GeForce cards are made to have very stable performance (A consistent 60 FPS in a game, for instance), whereas Quadro cards are made to go as fast as they can regardless of how consistent it is, though they do end up being faster on average. They're made specifically for professional work and are expensive as hell.

Additionally, it's worth noting that some features in SolidWorks and other software MAY NOT function without a Quadro processor. This is more important if you're doing renderings (which would be REALLY helpful for sales, so keep that in mind).

>>32041176

For modeling the really ornate stuff, you'd probably want to learn something like Rhino or something like that. That's not really my field, though, so you may want to go ask the guys on >>>/3/

Also, I *REALLY* recommend having at least 2 monitors. Being able to work on your software and have charts, reference material, emails or whatever on the other one so you don't have to alt-tab constantly is a fucking huge boost to productivity.

That said, I'm that guy who's easiest to contact via email, since I put my headphones on and then just zone out to music as I burn through my work. I put on some venetian snares and then just wake up 8 hours later covered in sweat with the 3D model and all the drawings complete.

Well, to put it into perspective... My Industrial Drafting course was 1.5 years and my CNC Machining course was just shy of a year.

If you want your company to become more profitable, however, getting into CNC is pretty much the only way forward. You'll be priced out of the market otherwise and will slowly die.

Hmm, not too bad. Thanks a lot for the info (again) btw, if I get good enough I might build a few stocks or something, would be cool to show off

Depends on how busy I am. I check in at least every couple of days.

>>
>>32042163
Oh. And why is a 4 axis necessary? In my mind cant you just cut out the outline on a xy axis, then rotate the cutout to remove wood for the barrel and Such, then sand it down and laminate it?

I mean, you could make a stock with nothing but chisels and files if you wanted. If your intention is to make dimensionally consistent stocks with as few man-hours of work as possible, a 4th axis would be worth the investment. Hell, even an indexer would be better than nothing. Unless your stock's profile is that of a brick, making the angled surfaces would be much faster and easier if you could rotate the work piece so that the entire cutting edge of the tool can do work. Otherwise you need to do tons of passes and you'll still have a lot of gouges to clean up after. The results just won't be as fast or nice.

>>32042251

80% of people who are legally considered blind have at least some vision. My visual acuity itself is about 20/30 without correction (which isn't too big a deal), but they're clinically oversensitive to light. Even if you had 20/10 vision, it would be unlawful for you to drive day or night while wearing glasses as dark as mine. I honestly joke about it more than anyone else does.
>>
>>32042311
>but they're clinically oversensitive to light.
I know that feel. Mine are excessively oversensitive, but I can't go outside on a sunny day without at least dark sunglasses on, and I prefer to have a hat or hood that shields my eyes on as well.

Yeah it's handy.

Working with a Q6600 processor, 8gb of ram, a gtx 960 and SSD. It's mostly enough, faster cpu would be good though.

4 axis isn't technically necessary for the majority of things if you do fixturing that you can orient and stuff.

I work for a shop that has a dozen three axis, a half-dozen four axis and two five axis machines.

There is simultaneously a bunch of people who go on gluten-free diets as a fad and people who legitimately are sick but not diagnosed and just bounce from doctor to doctor for years. They'll often be told they just have IBS.

If you have Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism, you should go get checked. There's an antibody that you can get checked for with a simple blood test, though it only has about an 80% accuracy (false negatives are possible).

>>32043334

There are a number of different types. The most well known is coeliac disease.

>>32043345

The genetics behind it are from Western Europe. How recently it began, whether it was exacerbated by environmental factors or changes in our food (which are aplenty) or anything else, I don't know. It's not my field. I keep tabs on it just enough to hear about potential treatments coming down the pipeline as well as new products that won't make me sick.

One hypothesis I did hear about was that our ancestors had a symbiotic relationship with some other creature that allowed us to process it or prevented us from reacting negatively to it, but due to changes in our diet or the use of some medication ended up killing them. As evidence of this, they found that certain types of hookworms in your gut can reduce the negative effects. They're studying what mechanisms the worms use to prevent it, so we could feasibly end up with a medication based on it.

>>
>>32044310
Well, I live in the Maritimes which is pretty cucked. Everything I've read so far says its illegal to discharge any firearm outside of a range. But it's also unclear and subjective (not within public range, like really common sense shit), but it seems like compared to out west or even in Ontario it's much more acceptable to do. Now of course if it's a restricted gun this seems to hold true regardless of where you live.

The thing is though if I'm in a really remote location with a non-restricted gun, who really is fucking stopping me? That's why I'm really confused by some of the laws I've read. All I want to do is set up a target and shoot off my SKS without joining some bullshit club.
>>
>>32044504
To clarify what I've read:
>6. No person shall without due regard to the safety of others discharge any gun or other firearm in or near any public place or way, or in or near any dwelling, store or other building, or in any cultivated field, or in any enclosure.

>>32044504
>The thing is though if I'm in a really remote location with a non-restricted gun, who really is fucking stopping me?

>>
>>32044504
>>32044557
thats not "cucked" it's literally "don't shoot with unsafe backdrops"
>>
>>32044582
Yeah it's just when I did a few searches it seems like a lot of misinformation is scattered. For example, I've read some people say that you can't go out because it means your "hunting" and then you can get in shit for not having a hunting permit if someone reported you or whatever.

Again, this is all seems like really subjective shit and I've most likely just been reading info from misinformed people.
