Future Import Speculation Edition
>Thread # 117
Old thread here >>31940146
im hoping for good deals on ammo for black friday now that the election is over.
>>31948568
I panic bought but I don't care because I was going to buy that shit spaced out over next year anyway. Had to dip into my "need" money a bit after depleting my "want" money.
My only regret is I bought an SLR104 instead of the 107s or Saigas that might be coming back.
>>31948609
well you can always have both.
>>31948631
i like your style.

I got a great gun either way. Might be a while before I get some money freed up for the other though.

i want an svd-k
GOD KING PLS
>>31948769
How about no? Why do you think russia would sell these even with sanctions lifted?
>>31948782
They already have a civi version of the vss in the works over there, if that goes well I don't see why we won't have more slav gats up for grabs.
>>31948782
because it's fun to pretend you fucking aspie
>>31948803
That piece of shit has nothing to do with the real vss.
>>31948805
Alright, geez.
AK-107 WHEN FELLOW FAGITS
IMO, the real thing to be excited about is the possibility that both the VRA and the sanctions get lifted.
Then we get all the original Russian AK kits we want. :^)

Voluntary Restraint Agreement.
It's the trade agreement that keeps us from getting anything other than the "approved" models like saiga and vepr. Without it, all models would be possible.
>>31949007
Preach!
>>31949017
All models would be possible subject to the same neutering like Saigas and 922ring like SLRs. The VRA isn't the only roadblock.
>>31949045
Well no shit, but at least Russian weaponry would be subject to the same rules as every other country.

>>31949056
Shoot high though, imagine all those 80's prebans, HKs, Swiss Arms, FNs, etc. no more neutered 922rd shit AKs.

A great change is coming, greater than any change we as firearm owners have seen in decades
I work in a city with a lot of old retired liberals and young FEEL THR BERN type kids and today is going to be great. I will not be able to hide my shit eating grin and I will not be able to hold back laughter at their distraught shock at their beloved candidate losing the presidential election. My country will be free, my rights will be unhampered, and my face will show true joy.
I admittedly still have some resignations about Trump (outside of memes) but Hillary not being in the White House and Dems not having control in the Senate or House is something to truly be joyous about.
>>31949168

>>31949130
I'm pretty sure it's just inconsistency in the material used. Just circumstantial. There are some really wacky ones, this one is my personal favorite I've ever come across from Molot, the glass-impregnated Izhmash 45 rounder is definitely the GOAT mag though.

>>31949301
Some of the floorplates have been replaced with commercial ones for whatever reason. May be one of those.
>>31949071
His "RPK-74" build was very cringe.
So you think SLR107s will come back in 2017 or will it be even longer?
>>31949301
Pics? Someone on theakforum was selling true black RPK-74M 45 rounders with creme colored baseplates and followers. He says they're Molot factory and are from the same molds as the black ones. Dunno what to make of them.
>>31949396
Hoppes 9 bottle for comparison, it looks a little bit darker in the photo than it really does though. No mfg marks on it or anything like the others
>>31949258
>>31949274
Regarding that line across the lower part of your mag where the pattern changes, do you or anyone else know why that is there in so many bakes?
>>31949438
Oh that's not what I was thinking of. That's perfectly normal in a 45 round Bakelite actually.
>>31949461
I'm pretty sure it has to do with how they filled the mold. I even see it on East German bakes.
>>31949438
I've got some plum mags with a baseplate that is the same shape/design as that one, but mine are in that plum color plastic, and have a silver ink stamp of some type on it and a mold number on the bottom.

If I remember right, the russians have a weird thing where you have to own a shotgun for X amount of time before you can own other firearms. The weird caliber you're referring to is .366 which is basically a widened 7.62x39 chamber to accommodate shotgun shells. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

My rpk74 mags that came in the other day.
Any news on that civi VSS? Does this mean civi SVD's and AK's will follow? I mean it is molot after all and they are on the ok list, and since Trump won I genuinely do think that the NFA, 922R, and import laws aren't going to be around for too long, it's just a matter of time until some guy puts in a new petition/lawsuit
Does this mean civilian versions of the AK-12 will be available? And the return of cheap 7n6 ammo?
I'm in the market for an AK, but I wouldn't mind holding out.

>>31955457
>>31955336
Come the fuck on. Are you fucking serious?
It makes literally no difference. NO difference. People will find ANYTHING to complain about. Do you have any idea what it would take to "fix" this non-problem? If Arsenal "fixed" every single little autistic complaint people had about their paint not being the right shade of black or their gas block being canted 0.1 degrees to the left then they would have to charge $2000 a rifle just to cover their warranty expenses. There is fucking nothing wrong with the rifle in that picture. And Arsenal actually has pretty decent customer service. The reason why Arsenal's customer service gets a bad rap is because customers like that call and try and get their non-existent problems fixed and Arsenal tells them that they're not going to waste their time and money on something so fucking pointless. This is so fucking dumb.
>omg stop making excuses for them for 1200 dollurs they should listen to all your bitchy little complaints

If shit like this bothers you, then you have no business being into AKs to begin with. That is not the type of gun the AK is. There is not an AK made in the entire world that will satisfy you if you are bothered by something like that. This is what happens when AR15 transplants latch on to the growing AK fad because they saw Travis Haley likes to use an AK sometimes. I support keeping a close eye on the quality of gun manufacturers so that they don't get away with cutting corners. Gun manufacturers that cut corners and ride on their reputation deserve to be put on blast for selling a shitty product so that people will stop patronizing them until they get their shit together. The Arsenal paint issue was significant. Sights that are badly canted is a significant issue. But the RSB being slightly off-center is fucking autism.
>>31955565
>hehehe le r/pol mememe shill meme le shill bux hehe u r shill

>>31955517
>>31955589
Chimps this isn't my rifle so I dont give a shit about it but
I completely agree considering I have to deal with people who buy their first ak and most will complain about stupid shit including:
bolt carrier gets stuck on trigger when let down slowly, (well no shit just rack it back) surplus bolt carrier's piston has too has too much wobble (yes really, and he wouldn't accept the fact that its supposed to be that way) gas tubes too tight, dust cover too tight etc.
All of these including paint (honestly on my rifles I dont give a shit) non severely canted rear/front as well as gas blocks are non issues, but seriously that arsenal was way too canted, it could probably could have been zeroed but it looks like shit (should have took better pics) None of this shit bothers me because I already have 5 AK's (soon to be 6 once i get my romy kit in) Ive shipped and sold a lot of arsenals and other AK's and this was probably the worst Ive seen and most are fine to the eye. This RSB was far from being slightly off-center.
>>31955584
RSBs are a bit hard to move when the pin is already installed and set and most newcomers to AK's would never even attempt to try to do that.
Is there any hope for repealing the 7n6 ban?
>>31955777

That's right. Looks literally do not matter as long as it doesn't impede function. It's a rifle made in the same factory that makes the exact same guns for the military. It isnt some highspeedlowdrag AR that needs to have perfect minute details to please hyper-anal American consumers. It's a military rifle. Americans think milspec means super good and the best when in fact it means just that: milspec.

this should work on any AK at a dust cover, but it's designed to be attached to rail system on gas tube that's likely only compatible with that company's rail.
this dust cover comes off via the hinge in your picture, and may not remain seated without being attached to the corresponding rail system

Trips compel me to answer: I don't see why there wouldn't be. BATF is the agency that decided a shoestring was a machine gun, then decided it wasn't. They change their minds about stuff all the time--and in January there's gonna be a new sheriff in town.
Give the out-and-out bullshit of the way the "cop killer bullet" law says that it only applies to handgun ammunition, and that it also only applies to handgun ammunition larger than .22 caliber, when there have never been any 5.45mm handguns and the 5.45mm caliber has a bore diameter around 0.214", which is smaller than .22 caliber, I should think all they need is a little nudge, and maybe some idiots made examples of, to get on board.
Or maybe, with both houses of Congress in the hands of responsible adults, maybe we can get rid of the "cop killer bullet" bullshit altogether. And GCA '68 too.
>>31957266
What ?
>>31957797
I gotta ask, what kind of muzzle device is that on the Daewoo?
I seem to remember gun magazine articles from long, long ago that our friends in Korea were using a flash suppressor/comp device that only had slots on one side to reduce the rifle's tendency to move sideways in full auto, or something like that.
But in the pictures we've seen I can't make out anything at all. It's almost like the barrel just has a step up at the muzzle.
>>31957810
Its a cone faux muzzle device. This was imported after the 94 ban. Im going to remove it, just low on my priorities.
>>31957834
ah. Any thoughts on what you'll replace it with? Do you know what thread pitch it has underneath?
If it's 1/2x28 you have LOTS of choices. The A2 flash suppressor is really a lot better than it has any right to be, given that it was designed by the US government, and is a seven-dollar part at every gun show.
Or there are lots of web pages with reviews of flash suppressors and compensators.

an AK barrel?
Make a cat's head with a bore diameter big enough for the receiver to fit into (this includes the trigger guard as it is riveted on), it will probably need to be a little bit long, so get it in a 16"+ 4-jaw chuck and then put a steady-rest on the cat's head 6" or so away from chuck, now the chuck is holding the cat's head, and the cat's head is holding the receiver+trunnions+barrel combo (holding it by the barrel that is).
So you've got it spinning now, you can slip a carbide rod the right diameter into the bore and indicate off of it for the cutting/threading operation.
Might considere putting another steady rest to hold the barrel some ways toward the end.
Next probably use a parting tool to cut it 1/4" away from your crown/thread section, finish to final length by facing, thread it via preferred method, finish crown, spray paint it a dull gray so the owner thinks it's chrome lined on the end.
??profit??

I finally got around to shooting my Maadi today. I had the day off and went up innamountains and shot a few hundred rounds of Golden Tiger.
I don't shoot my 7.62x39 guns nearly as often as I used to and it's a treat occasionally taking one out. In my opinion 7.62x39 has the perfect amount of recoil: enough bump to remind you that you're shooting but not enough to wear you out after an afternoon of shooting. I love the caliber.
Filing a form 1 on my 104ur. Saw a video that said page 1 and page 2 actually need to be on one sheet, double sided or else it will get rejected. Is this true? Why does the ATF make this so difficult? Am I retarded or is this actually more complicated than it should be?

They were getting right up around 20c/r anyway. IMO, it wasn't worth it vs 60gr noncorrosive unless you shot an awful lot.
I'm tempted to sell all mine in exchange for commercial ammo at this point. But I feel like I'll get more for it when it's complete unobtanium in a few years.

The $90 tins were really cool, a small local shop did a lot of buying and selling surplus and they bought and sold a lot of 7n6. Normally it was around $100-$110ish a tin but I was buddy buddy with the owner and he cut me a deal for buying three crates at $90 a tin. Normally I'd buy a tin or two at a time from him for $100 to $110 a piece. It was only once I bought that much from him for that little
I really, really miss it. Whenever I went shooting i'd just drive 30 minutes to this shop on my way to shooting in the woods and buy a tin or two and just shoot as much as I wanted. Once 7n6 got banned I became very conservative with my 5.45. I used to put somewhere between a tin or two of 7n6 through my rifle every month but now I'm lucky if I shoot 750 rounds of 5.45 a month. Im thankful that it's still available online for decent price but it'll never be the same (unless the GOD EMPEROR wills it) as it was when it was pennies per round.
How do you go about replacing the barrel in a complete AK receiver?
>>31960070
You buy a press, drill press or mill, a chode of copper round bar that is about the barrel diameter, headspace guages (no-go/go/field), and finally you actually do some research and determine if you really want to do this.

If you drop them on the ground repeatedly, run them over with a truck, dredge a creek with them, fill them with sand, and fire 5,000 rounds through them without cleaning, there's a chance they'll break.

Few reasons
That gunbroker seller loves to list things for exorbitant prices. He evidently is very patient, so he waits for rich people with no patience to buy from him. If he leaves the product up long enough someone will eventually come along.
The PLO kits are pretty much the only Russian kits with original barrels in the US
That kit has some history to it. It originally belonged to Palestinian that was probably killed by the Jews. Also, even though the numbers don't match the trunnion, if that's a true PLO kit that hasn't had parts swapped around, then all those parts are original to the rifle when it was being used by the PLO. Nowadays kit guns are cut up and all the parts are bunched together. Parts with matching serial numbers (of ample enough figures) can be guaranteed to belong to one another, but unserialized parts probably came from a different rifle. Parts that have only 3 serial number digits might be mixed up too. This isn't true with the PLO kits though, all the parts were kept together, so the kit you get is exactly the same set of parts that were on the rifle when it was being used by the PLO.
$3000 is still way too much for a PLO AKM kit though.

In other news, I got a fuckin job because I was getting really paranoid of never obtaining the rest of my gun collection which consists of 3 VEPRs and still waiting to find a cheap m92. With all the shit Shilldog was slinging at Russia I was worried Molot was gonna get sanctioned like Izhmash did. After that I was thinking things like 30rd mags and rifle caliber pistols and SBRs and shit would be on the block.
Instead I quit my panic buy job to go back to focus on school and spent my earnings finally converting this Saiga I overpayed for a while back. So fuckin expensive in total to create this rifle. Got the full dinzag kit and full AKM furn set from ironwood. Eventually I plan to change the gas block, sights, pistol grip, top cover, to true AKM parts, at the same time I'll get an actual lower handguard retainer put on (got the bolt on cuz lazy), grind off the fuckin import mark velcro patch and JB weld it, then refinish the whole baby. >>31961312
>Is there anything wrong with using bolt cutter/hand press methods to rivet an ak?
No, I use the toth jaws for all of my builds and I have an ak builder rivet jig.
I think the toth jaws make it easier to start the rivet flush with the receiver, and feeling the bolt cutters seems help me make a good press on the short rivets.
I use the ak builder jig on the rare occasion I need to crush a short rivet more (to clear the mag or barrel) but I could just adjust the jaws tighter and loosen them back up when I start another rivet.
AK builder jig is great for long rivets. If I had to tool up again I would buy just the press and ak builder jig, plus some component plates from robert forbus. The press is simply too useful for pressing the barrel components and setting headspace. I hated every second of doing that with the toth barrel press.
I would only go with a full toth setup if I literally couldn't fit a 12 ton A frame, but I wouldn't be happy about it.

to be totally, completely fair, people like Rob Ski give that particular Tapco muzzle device pretty high marks
it isn't the greatest thing out there but it does a good job of reducing recoil and muzzle rise, without the horrible obnoxious concussion you get from things like the '74 brake or the various great big multi-baffle multi-chamber brakes that are in vogue in certain circles
it even reduces flash a little bit, though obviously not as much as a flash suppressor designed for the specific purpose

how about an intermediate-intermediate cartridge? maybe 7.62x39mm stretched a bit, with the shoulder moved forward a little, necked down to 6.5mm.
6.5mm bullets, especially in the 120-145gr range, have excellent velocity retention at long range due to high ballistic coefficient
maybe a super-high-ballistic-coefficient 139gr bullet at around 2550 ft/sec or 139gr at around 2350, either one ought to stay supersonic to nearly half a mile, and also be almost as controllable as 7.62x39 in full auto from an infantry rifle
