ah.

Anyone ever tried it? The pictures I see on various web pages look good, but "the top strut is plastic and the bottom one is hollow aluminum tubing" kind of turn me off. I'd love to find a folder like that made of steel tubing, though. Like the Galil stock. But for an AK.

It'd be fine if it was all aluminium. The plastic or polymer is a turn off. If you want steel then get a triangle folder.

Romy Gs are still fairly cheap, and I've been seeing a few nice Egyptian kits that have sold for less than I'd have expected. I'd personally go with a Romy G kit. They're cheap, they're pretty good, and if you happen to screw anything up it won't be like you're hurting anything special because they're common. It's your second build and it'll be a solid rifle once you're through with it. Maybe for your third build you can pick up something a little more special and expensive.

It's still going to take awhile to get the rifles back into the country.
Especially with the ATF slow dragging with the form 6s.
>Can Trump shitcan the whole ATF and appoint some people who actually know how firearms work?
>>
>>31962945
Hasn't been too bad on form 6s lately. Like 2-3 weeks.
>>
>>31962645
Are those available separately and boltable-onnable, to, say, a WASR receiver?
>>
>>31962954
Really? Shit, that's actually rather surprising.
Still, ordering thousands of rifles, having them packaged up and put into shipping containers, then shipped here will take some time.
But if once they're here they get by in a couple weeks they might be here sooner.
>Late summer is still my cautious estimate though.
But hopefully by July 4th we can get Saigas at every shop again.
>>
>>31963030
If everything goes as well as possible, usually expect 3 months from the start of the deal to the time the guns hit the shore. There are usually delays.

You never know, if the sanctions drop and possibly more, ATF will likely be swamped with new f6 applications. Could be rough if you don't pull strings.

Several years ago I used the ACE stock and side folding attachment on an internal block (it was on the WASR I sold back in 2008 during that panic). It was a good stock the lockup was tight and strong but easy enough to fold. Stock soaked up as much abuse as I put on it. I'd rate it an B+. It lost points because it took three separate parts to get it to work and required cutting off the stock tang.

Handguns are for fighting your way back to your rifle, which you shouldn't have put down in the first place.

>>31967326
You could have gotten a WASR for $600--six months ago, maybe. But not ammo.

Get some buckshot for the scatterguns and hope for the best. You want an AK now, you're going to have to save some more dosh.
>>
>>31967494
>Handguns are for fighting your way back to your rifle, which you shouldn't have put down in the first place.
Why do you perpetuate this line of bullshit? Handguns are better at some things than long guns are. I would personally prefer a carbine to a handgun for home defense, but a handgun beats the pants off of a shotgun for that purpose.
>>
>>31967560
The BEST option for home defense is to just hire additional security in case someone gets past the guards in your gated community.
Honestly I dont know why you thugs need guns. I've never even touched a gun and I've NEVER felt unsafe at home or being driven to work.
Seriously though. A handgun is great for protection out in public where carrying a longarm would draw unnecessary attention. But in the home the faster you can end the threat the better and nothing beats a longarm, shotgun or rifle, for terminal effect.

Yes. They're easier to carry concealed. They're absolute last-ditch emergency weapons. They suck at stopping fights.

Handguns are for carry concealed. They're better than fingernails. If you have the option, if you know you're going to be in a fight, anyone with any wit would bring a long gun.

Also you're gonna have to share with me more about what you know on export law, my guy seems to have some cold feet on odd items so I wanna see if I can coerce him or not
>>
>>31969546
Most of western and eastern Europe, some middle east, india, none of africa for the time being.

The method I have for export involves bouncing them through a few countries, so it's not something most guys will be able to do. Most "military" items are not legal for him to send straight to you.
>>
>>31969596
Yea that's about how I understood it, but the thing that sorta made me stop and think was he could do Belarussian optics but not straight Russian ones, so I figured it'd be good to check where the line is for them

Took the PGO-7 to the range this morning to zero on my SLR104. Only had an hour or so to spend before work. Almost had it dialed in, but was still hitting two inches high and an inch right. Should be able to get out again on Monday and finish.

Had my best 100m group ever with the SLR - three shots, 1.3 inches.

I received a few funny looks, but one guy had actually used a PGO on an RPG-7 during Foreign Weapons Familiarization and immediately recognized it.
>>
>>31969620
I don't remember what the criteria for being considered "military" is, but you can safely assume that anything general issue is not allowed.

If that price list for BelOMO optics was your post, he's selling them to you at low-volume wholesale price + about $25, so not a bad deal.

Anyone here have a PK-AS?
What's with it being offset to the irons?
Are they worth the money or am I better of not playing slav dressup with my rifle (74) and buying an aimpoint?
>>
>>31969945
They're offset because the slavs like to be able to switch between optic and irons in the event the optic is impractical or fails. Most of the time they just sit the optic above the irons.
>>
>>31969956
Can you adjust them to be above the top cover?
>>
>>31969974
get one that mounts above the top cover. A lot of their newer optics abandon that concept and sit too low to be able to look under these days.
>>
>>31969974
You can't adjust the PK-AS offset. They used to make a picatinny version that you could put on a centered rail, but they don't make any of the PK-AS variants any longer.

what is the truth about the stock adapters for slant cut veprs? Are they strong, reliable? As good or better than getting something custom that fits the slant? Fuckin ironwood only makes slant cut SVD shit AFAIK. Im unaware of any other good wood stock makers and I do kinda think the slant is more aesthetic.
>>
Hey /akg/, is it possible to get an AK, or AK parts kit that has parts from an AK that was actually used in combat these days? That's something you can expect with certain guns, but I'm wondering if anyone should expect that at all with AKs.

Thanks.

If you are looking for an entry level AK. Get a WASR. The barrel will outlive you even if you shoot the damn thing every day. The wood is crappy but serviceable. Unless you are prepared to spend over 900 bucks there is nothing on the market that is even close to the WASR.

The title is "Avtomat Malyuk." So it's a Malyuk Automatic Rifle. It looks like an AK in a plastic bullpup stock (note shape of receiver, shape of selector lever) with RAILZ RAILZ RAILZ everywhere and an optical sight.

If it's AK-based it ought to be a pretty good design, but slapping someone else's design into a bullpup stock and sticking your own name on it seems kind of tacky. It's like putting Eugene Stoner's AR15/M16 design into a plastic bullpup stock and naming it after yourself. Tacky.

Well, I've got my rifle, and I have found that if you connect two of the cheap little PPSh41 slings end to end, you can connect it to the belt loops on the back of an East German four-cell AK mag carrier. No plate carrier, no MOLLE gear, no tac vest, just one mag in the rifle and four in the carrier, grab and go, for a combat load of 150 rounds.

I don't even have cammies. In the event of the Zombie Apocalypse, etc., I will be rocking whatever dull dark brownish or greenish or khaki cargo pants I wore to the office that morning, plus (depending on the weather) a durr huntan camo fleece hoodie, or some kind of fudd camo durr huntan lightweight cotton shirt.

Did they even make those Vityaz guns at shotshow or were those imports that they have no way of manufacturing themselves? It's been a pretty long time.

Dead on, I just picked them up last week. I searched around a bit but the RS Regulate + Aimpoint Micro seemed to be the best option if you wanted to be able to cowitness your irons. The mount slides on and off like butter, centers over the top of the rifle easily, and together the shoot like a fucking dream.

Rob Ski gives this device decent reviews. It's under $15 if you shop around and it supposedly does a good job, for the money. You get your fifteen bucks worth of softened recoil and reduced muzzle rise. He said it also even reduced flash a little bit, compared to a bare muzzle, but it's not really a flash suppressor.

I believe the idea is that you shoot while aiming with your left eye? Could be entirely wrong on that point, though. It also keeps your cheek on the stock as opposed to your chin. The optic is really, really nice, but I'm not sure I'd pay $400 for it again. I'd rather have an Aimpoint for practicality, but the PK-AS is certainly a great optic in its own right.

>>31969980
You're likely never going to find a PK-AS-V again due to the fact that BelOMO really doesn't produce them anymore.

Well I guess I'm joining the /akg/ camp now. I traded a duffel bag of MRE for an AIMS-74 kit that just needs a receiver, a barrel, and rivets. I got a bit of money and enough spare time, but I've yet to assemble a gun at this level and I've never even owned an AK before.

So how am I supposed to put this thing together and what kind of tools am I gonna need? I would really like to be firing this thing in a few weeks and any reference information or opinions would be appreciated.

>>
>>31974521
You got a $500 parts kit. Hope you got a good deal for what you traded.
If you don't have the tools needed, nor the experience required to complete the build I would HIGHLY suggest sending your kit off to a reputable builder and paying him to finish your gun.
AK 80% lowers aren't nearly as "user friendly" to complete as AR 80% lowers are. The heat treating, spot welding, riveting, head spacing, all lead up to lots of ways to fuck up.

Tools you would need:
-press to populate the barrel
-spot welder, or possibly mig/tig/stick welder to attach rails.
-bolt cutters, and specially made jaws to press the rivets
-some way to heat treat the receiver after the welding is finished
-various hand tools

I might be forgetting some shit because I've never done it, but I've sure read up on it a lot and came very close to getting into it. But I talked myself out of it.

Just to be clear; is this the only wolf ammo to stay away from? Is 7.62 just the only underpowered stuff or is 5.45 also bad?
>>
>>31975371
both calibers of the SGammo "mil spec" is underpowered, so stay away from all of it.
the standard Wolf ammo (which is loaded hotter than the ammo you pictured) doesn't have the sealed primer and sealed projectile, but for most of us that won't be an issue. It's important for a military environment to keep the powder 100% dry, but if you store your ammo in your home then that's not an issue.

tl;dr avoid both calibers

Not IMO. Chink AK's are alright, but not at that price. I know it's expensive because they are banned from import, but at the end of the day you're paying $2500 for an AK that's pretty good, and since you paid so much for it you might not want to shoot it much.
If you're a collector that jus HAS to have a chink AK then yeah go for it. But if you're a shooter that wants a gun to take out shooting, look elsewhere.

WASRs are good, just google what to look for (canted sights, mag wobble, etc.). Avoid the "made in 'murrica" Centuries.

It's an early WASR. The parts are solid but a lot of the guns are assembled with canted sights, sloppy crooked and/or oversized mag openings that will cause mag wobble, etc.

I have an earlier-than-WASR 1990s import Cugir 5.45mm type rifle and it's rock solid.
>>
>>31975942
I can find no tests of that specific load online anywhere.

That having been said, every single Eastern European 5.45mm FMJ commercial ammo for which I have been able to find a test behaves exactly like 7N6 in ballistic gelatin--it yaws early, rapidly and violently, and sometimes curves and exits the block.

I would not worry about the terminal ballistics. For SHTF--which to me implies at least the possibility of living in a cave, or a forest dugout shelter for months if not years at a time--the non-lacquered, non-sealed steel cases give me pause.
