Is that a SAM7?

If so, do you like it?

I plan on getting an AK after I get an AR, and I was looking at the SAM7. I know there were some paint memes and shit flying around a few months back. Any weight to those claims now?

Just came across some incendiary 7.62 x 39. $75 for 30 rounds.

Anyone know if that's a fair price?
>>
I asked a couple of threads ago.

I have a birthday coming up and am considering getting myself a .22 semiauto (probably a 10/22) and putting open sights on it to mimic the sight picture we get with an AK/SKS.

I have heard that the Ruger 10/22 uses a 3/8" dovetail and, at least for the rear sight, the old Millet adjustable rear sight for the Desert Eagle drops right in and is (approximately) the right height. I'm wondering about a front sight that will give an AK-ish sight picture. Maybe a Lyman globe front sight with a thick post insert?

I was thinking specifically about one of the 10/22 takedown rifles, and putting the AGP Arms folder on it, just because it's the least expensive way to put a pistol grip on it. And if you squint a little it looks like a triangle folder. Maybe I'll do a paracord wrap on the top of the buttstock and get a few 25 round mags. Has anyone tried something like this?

It extends to ARs as of late too, it's a meme. Unless you have loldonkeydick, then you have a valid reason.

>>31940297
From what I have read the springs in the Korean AK mags are not very good. Also, the dimensions of the little bumps on the inside of the mag lips at the top, that are supposed to stop the travel of the mag follower at the top and keep it from wedging hard between the feed lips when it reaches the top, are dimensionally wrong. The mag follower does not rise quite high enough and this causes problems feeding the last 1-2 rounds. I suppose you could use a Dremel to take a little material off the bottom edge of the bumps and help the mag follower rise a little further but that's a hell of a lot of work to fix an $11 mag. The steel the Koreans are using is not nearly as thick as the real deal Eastern European milsurp mags and they're not as substantial or durable. I personally wouldn't bother with them.

Best wait awhile then, because you're not going to get a sub-$600 AK for a long time, and you're certainly not going to get a good one for less than $800 ever.

>>31940353
30 rounders aren't even a problem on donkey dick AKs. The only time they might be an issue is if you've got the underfolder dong or an AMD-65.

You're not going to snag anything at a Florida gun show for a good deal. I assume you go to Sun Coast Gun Show events? They're the most common all throughout Florida but they've stopped having good deals over the last 2 years.

i like them in my RDB because they don't protrude, although it's not practically an issue. even 40rd mags don't get in the way unless you try to go prone in certain situations
>>
>>31940332
>why do people want 20 rounders so much?

I think part of it is collector interest.

Some people feel a 20 round mag would help the user take a somewhat lower prone position, at least under some circumstances. I wonder about this, since in the real world the ground tends to be kind of uneven anyway.

I personally don't think that a 16" barrel destroys the look and so a non SBR Kringle seems like a good idea.

Shit though.

I mean, krink kits are only about $8-900, plus a reciever and barrel and with the work done myself I could probably shave off $100...

I'll think about it.

I think the official stance on it from the ATF is that you require an importer's license to import any "firearms parts" such as magazines.

However, the individual components of the mags are in more of a gray area as far as import/export is concerned. Common practice seems to be for the Russians to break the mags down, ship the bodies, then ship the springs, followers, and floorplates a few days later. Whether that will hold in court or not as "not parts importation" I will leave for someone else to find out.

Here's the breakdown on getting mags from overseas:

US Laws: Magazines are implements of war and require proper licensing and permit to import. Most people have them shipped disassembled in separate packages, which isn't strictly legal, as one or more of the components will be "non-minor". ATF doesn't enforce it, so who cares.

Russian Law: Export of military equipment without license is prohibited. Sellers usually disassemble the mags to get around this. Still a grey area. Some sellers mispackage/label the mags as airsoft.

TLDR: If you want to be 100% legal for some reason, don't do it. Otherwise, do it because no one gets caught.

They're demilled in the fact that they're shipped here in pieces in multiple packages. A package of pieces of plastic, a package of springs, and a package of followers and floor plates are just inconspicuous pieces of material. Together they're a magazine, but separate they're just pieces of plastic and metal.

When you buy from Russia there's always a chance your stuff will get seized and you'll be SOL. Never has happened to me and I've done my share of buying AK stuff from Russia, but it's always a possibility and there are people in /akg/ who have lost things

How does one become a liscenced importer?

How much slavshit do you personally bring into the US, and about how much a year do you make solely from importing? I've always been curious about this stuff. I can't imagine it being enough to not have to work a normal job but who knows maybe I'm wrong. I think it would be really cool to run a business buying and selling gun stuff that you import but at her level you'd have to be buying and selling a ton of stuff.

Apply for one of the two "importer" type FFLs, get your AECA afterwards. ATF has really cracked down on approving FFLs, so it may be more difficult now.

I do it as a side job in addition to leasing property. Income is really dependent on the market dynamics. In the 5 years I've been at it, best year was 200k, worst was about 35k. I will likely expand to full blown retail to take advantage of a lot of opportunities I've been passing up.

On Russian mags, most of the mags you see importers bring in are from Europe. There are "legal" ways to get them out of Russia, but they are circuitous and expensive.

I don't want to burst your bubble, but a lot of people latch onto the dream of manufacturing ammo. It is a lot more complicated and competitive than you might think.

I'm not saying don't do it, I'd just suggest that you really get to know what you're doing before investing any real money.

There are some niche markets open right now, given that most large scale producers are backordered for the next few years. Namely, 12.7x108.

I understand this. But being able to manufacture everything but the primer and powder (all in good time my friend) would be a big part of the whole advertisement thing.

It's not something I'll do in the next few years or even decade.
I'll need the brass extruder, a heat treating furnace (though that won't be too hard to get) an FFL-06, and I'll need some employees to start with (probably four or five, family members will probably end up being these)

And then I'll grow it from there.
We won't be a reman plant, hell, we won't even be making "custom loads"

We'll be as cheap as fucking possible and hopefully compete with Tulammo by the time it's said and done.

The tape isn't a great idea, but I did consider foam. Ace (now Doublestar apparently) used to have foam wraps for their AR tubes but not for their Galil-style stocks. As far as I can tell they still don't, and cutting foam with that nice rounded edge you'd see on a product from Ace is pretty much impossible. That would be an ideal solution.

>>31941544
Looks like they were incorporated into Doublestar, there is still an "Ace" section on the Doublestar website. In my experience Doublestar has provided high quality AR parts, if they're now in charge of production I'm sure they're doing a great job with the Ace legacy as well.

Also, unless you're dead set on a Tantal, I'd recommend getting something in a more common caliber. 5.45 mags aren't cheap.

Hello /akg/ I just bought a VEPR and I live in CA.

I'm almost positive at this point that it's legal, but would like some reassurance. I've gone over the calguns rifle flowchart and pretty sure it's legal. It is 23'' barrel so it's definitely over 30'' total length. I also of course got it with the maglock so even though it has a thumbhole stock it's okay because it doesn't have a "detachable magazine", correct?

Going through the flowchart part it seems legal, however looking at this part of the charge it makes it seem illegal because it's centerfire and has a thumbhole. Did I fuck myself over? Will the FFL I got it shipped to even care? They are sold as CA compliant so why the fuggg.

numbers 1, 2, and 3 are separate clauses, any one of which can define your rifle as an "assault weapon" which must be registered with the State or converted to non-"assault weapon" status as of 2017.

1 requires both the detachable magazine(which you get around with the cucklock) AND any 1(or more) of the bulleted points. You have one of the bulleted points but since you have the cucklock, 1 does not apply.

2 applies if your magazine is bigger than 10 rounds.

3 is just a more strict SBR rule at 30" instead of 26".

>>31943428

How silly of an idea is it to sharpen an AK bayonet? Does the weird steel it's made out of even sharpen well?
>>
>>31943516
It doesn't sharpen worth a shit and it definitely won't hold an edge. Kind of a shortcoming in my opinion because it limits the use of the bayonet as just a bayonet and a wirecutter. It'd be nice if it could double-duty as a survival knife or something. But it's just shitty soft steel.

Polish barrel if at all possible.
I don't know about other receiver makers but everyone in the ARFCOM AK forums raves about Nodak Spud's receivers and I have never heard one bad thing about any Nodak product.

Why wouldn't it? Hitlery was the one who wanted to start a war with Russia, by shooting down Russian planes in the "no fly zone" she wants to enforce over Syria. Even Jill Stein, the Green Party Official Crazy Cat Lady, acknowledged that much last week.

By contrast, Donald Trump has spent the whole campaign talking about a foreign policy based on respect and cooperation with Russia, dialogue instead of confrontation. And that also means the cheap ammo and parts kits keep coming, maybe even cheap Saigas again.
>>
>>31944408
How will they know/check it? I take it to a store and they look at it and then I just take it off again?

Someone will send donnie a mean tweet and he'll launch nukes. Then everybody launches theirs. It's probably going to happen.

Nah man. Nah. Hitlery's the one with bats in her belfry.

Maybe, but that's the cowards way out. registration is too restrictive. I do a lot of shooting in random areas. You have to specify an exact location if it is registered as an assault weapon. That would mean no more BLM land, camping trips in national parks, etc. The fun and usefulness is not worth only being able to enjoy at a horrible California gun range.

I bought a WASR in May. Possibly I overpaid, at $600, but the sights are on straight, it shoots straight, and it runs like a top.

I could have done worse things with the money. Mags are cheap and plentiful, ammo is cheap and plentiful, and I'm happy with my choice, even if the prices eventually come back down.

>>
>>31946265
I can see him lifting the sanctions on Russia fairly quickly after coming into office. This all depends on how consistent he stays with his campaign rhetoric. He might place tariffs on imported goods to protect American manufacturing but still lift the sanctions. I'd rather have import taxed Saigas than no Saigas at all. It's a good day.
>>
>>31947501
>before he imported them

Don't talk like that. It makes it sound like he needs a license or something.
He's just getting a few harmless knick-knacks for his friends on /k/.
>>
>>31947902
Right, sorry. I meant to say "before he ordered them".
>>
>>31947853
I haven't followed formally known as Izhmash's civilian offerings since the ban, are 107s a possibility? What else could potentially be imported?
>>
>>31947927
We have a voluntary trade restriction between Russia. Without that changing, nothing that hasn't been imported before could be imported in the future. Tigrs for example, were imported before the trade restriction, but now are no longer. Something would have to change with that trade restriction in order to get any new cool stuff.
>>
>>31947941
Ah yes I forgot about that agreement. I'll keep my fantasies in check. I suppose just having an influx of Saigas would be nice enough
>>
So what's the deal with the ban on 7n6? Can the president do anything about it, or is it dependent on strictly the ATF, or a combination of people/groups?
