I'm looking at rabbit pelts. I'm not really sure what to look for. Is it to help my belt from chaffing, or do I just rub it to calm myself?

Buddy, nobody cares.
Alternatively, what I hope to get out of all the/GQ/ threads I join is to discuss gear and hopefully get some good tips and pointers on something I didn't know.
>>
>>31844630
You can do both actually. It works for me so I don't have canvas chafing on me, and instead have something softer. It's entirely an optional piece of kit, but as with all pelts, make sure it's clean before it touches any bare skin.

I've been broke for months and haven't been able to buy new gear.

I'm aiming to buy some highcom plates and a carrier on Black Friday.
>>
>>31844727

were I to do it over again I would pass on the plate carrier, get a perfect war belt and suspender setup, and spend the rest on ammo. maybe a low profile undercover chest rig. low profile is everything when shtf.

Hey Storybro, thanks for answering earlier. I'm posting again to hear more thoughts.

Couple of questions for /gq/. I live in a forested area but made the dumbass mistake of buying a coyote PC. I was thinking that I could fix that a little by buying pouches, etc in a more forest-friendly camo. Does that sound dumb, or would it work to break up the solid coyote color?

Second question, what do you all think of pencott greenzone? Looks like it would work well in a forested area.

I started a thread last week but wanna ask again.

I want a chest rig or set up that is plate carrier molle or swift clip compatible with a similar lay out to a d3cr. more importantly capable of holding any magazines, stanag, ak, or 308/762x51. pic related, d3crh with mp2 clips and ak mags
>>
>>31844885
MOLLE base rig, add hsgi tacos, add admin pouches over them as desired.
>>
What's the company that makes decent Crye-style pants whose name starts with a D? Daeodon? Dederon (probably not that since that's East German nylon)?
>>
>>31844921

I never see pictures of tacos with anything mounted over top. one thing I asked is apparently if theyre more than 2 pouches wide, used with 308 mags they get too tight
>>
>>31844859
Do a mix of OD and coyote pouches or camo pouches. Pencott works really well.
>>
>>31844938

Everytime I pistol the thread 404s.
Shamelessly posting for the third time.
Trekking socks are a godsend for me desu. Nice sole inserts are a babe. Avoid team Soldier shit like the plague if you can. The velcro and "flame retardant" material this shirt was made out of is pure shit.
Getting a battle poncho is nice if you don't actually use it in combat conditions in it but like to stand and walk around lots. Patagonia hats and wide sunglasses are also nice. Pants wise I enjoy hiking breifs, the ones with the holed fabric that's soft and baggy as fuck, or small compression shorts. If you wear a battle belt or a riggers belt that chafes, I usually wear a rabbit pelt in between my base layer, over the belt. Also NEVER forget a PT belt.
I've worn all of this kit innawoods on separate & joined occasions . Don't have much to complain on except this shit plate carrier is horrendous when running. The poncho, a shit blanket I bought at a D-9 (a grocery store terminally stuck in the 80s backwoods), and cut a nice hole for my neck. Best thing I own.
Pls critique my kit or something.
Also what's a good frog shirt? Like the kind wirh angled sleeve pouches, easily Rollable sleeves, and zipper collar?
Also is the MOPC carrier good? Or what's a good one for both durability and comfort that has an emergency release system?
>>
>>31844859
Yeah no problem at all mate! Glad I could help.
>>
>>31844859

do you really find the coyote brown that bad in the forest? I live in a very forested area and have never found it to be bad. its used by the snipers and recce guys in my unit
>>
>>31844885
How comfy is a plate carrier for women? I've heard of women's cuts for plates but that seems like a meme.
>>
>>31844885
Spiritus, Velocity Systems, Mayflower, Blue Force, and Tactical Tailor all make great quick-detachable placards. Down Range Gear makes swift clip adapters to attach it to your vest.

Not comfy at all unless you have a completely flat chest with no boobs at all or somehow manage to adjust it just right. Chest rigs are okay if you don't have too much crap in them, in which case you should wear them as belly rigs.

daily reminder that you gearqueer faggots know nothing about the woods. you can't walk quietly, you can't hunt, you can't build a shelter. your expensive ar and 10 mags will be useless when you're shivering in the rain because you can't build a shelter or make a fire.

some fudd or redneck will just shoot you because you don't know how to walk quietly innawoods
>>
>>31845046

im tracking the availability of rigs and placards, what im really looking for is a universal mag pouch I suppose
>>
>>31845069
>tfw into bushcraft and animal tracking and just browse here for hobby reasons
Get fucked.
>>
>>31844938
UF PRO and arc'teryx make some good pants. Although the arc'teryx LEAF assault pants suck for knee durability imo. Kitanica USA makes some nice pants I believe, non knee padded but have beautiful pocket amd comfort organization, as well as good crotch seaming. If worst comes to worst just invest in some good knee pads over aesthetics.
>>31844854
Personally I wouldn't like to buy a whole new kit for every situation. Have a base kit that you can modify to go for a situation. Plate carrier/battle belt wise. The extent I'd leave it at is one fanci danci tacticool plate carrier with the right amount of bells and whistles, and at mounts low profile plate carrier with nothing on it or some low profile elastic mag pouches. A chest rig would be nice to have light kit but all your gear, and invest in an active shooters belt as well as a battle belt. Main keys is you want maneuverability first, aesthetics and volume last. Clothing wise, I wouldn't go over having just an pair of hot weather and cold weather clothes. Rn, your kit in
>>31844727
Looks ace. You can move around, have a your stuff, and hopefully function properly. A plate carrier would be a nice investment, but research twice and buy once when browsing. I goofed up heavily starting out by just buying whatever looked cool and was relatively cheap.
But again this is all my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.

The only thing that sucks are AK mags, because the rear tab will tear up your pouches over time. Tacos work well because they have kydex on the sides where the tab rubs against it.

Although your point is half correct, in the sense of battle rattle, hardly assuming eveeyone is a fudd is quite rude anon :^(

Throwing a spear at some deer your fat ass laid bait out for isn't special jimbo. Nice attempt at LARPing though.
>>
>>31845240
I don't lay bait out. when I got it with the spear, I stalked it, then ran to it and threw a spear and got it in the hind. then i ran after it for two hours, and then got another spear and shot it in the chest, died in 10 minutes.

is little baby operator sad because he's fat and never goes out into the forest? is he sad that he will die in the SHTF from a fudd?

I've strongly been considering getting attached. ALPS OutdoorZ Commander Freighter Frame Plus Pack Bag for my BOB. I already have tacticool bags but if I had to get somewhere on foot I would like to be low key but with heavy poundage hauling capability.
>>
>>31845937
Hey brother, I don't have any experience with that particular bag our brand though it has great reviews. Typical I gear that I've seen survive the intense backpacking schedule that my job entails has been the following

>Goddamn ALICE rucks
>Eberlestock
>EXO mountain pack
>Mystery Ranch
>Tactical tailor enhanced ALICE
>Hill People Gear

5200 is fucking huge. I like to stay below 4000 because I've rucked with 75+ pounds. Hell I've done 110 lbs for two weeks and it fucking smokes you. I've found that with a pack that size I never fill it and or I pack way too much shit. But - that being said if it's what you need, it's what you need.

I have this pack and I like it. External frame but still lighter than my Gregory 75. Definitely has the ability to haul, but heed the advice of >>31845989 and don't fall to the overpacking temptation. I did and sucked wind all during my test hike.

I do like that it's modular, tough fabric, and has dedicated space for a rifle. However, there are metal attachment points that can rattle and be noisy. If you want to be quieter with it, you'll want to pick up some hitch pins or something similar - but son't sweat, it's a cheap fix.

It's not a decompression needle lol. It's a tourniquet, gauze, and a pressure bandage. What medical training do you even need for that?
>>
>>31848766
Probably the only thing you can mess up is a tourniquet. It's not hard though. Place it above the wound and don't put it on a joint. Tighten until the bright red stuff stops squirting out. It will hurt, but your limb can survive several hours with it on. You should never need more than four tourniquets. Don't apply it to your neck.

The AOR and MARPAT variations have proven time and again to be extremely effective when applied as terrain-specific patterns. Tests and operational performance demonstrate that digital camouflage does, in fact, work. Of course there are a plethora of poor "digital" variations, with the most prominent being UCP, but that example in particular was used in spite of substandard performance for undisclosed political reasons.

Once you experience the comfort of the integrated kneepads, you will never ever want to go back to regular clunky kneepads.

I don't own any UR gear, but it looks really solid and I hear nothing but good things about it. I'm tempted to buy some to check out.

Both designs are pretty close as they both offer the integrated kneepad system and contoured cut, which is the main benefit . It sounds like you are on the ropes about cost, so I would probably lean towards holding off on the Cryes and going with the URs.

Drifire is a really good brand if you are looking for fire resistant properties. You can find both Drifire x Crye shirts and straight Drifire brand shirts on Fleabay. I was intrigued by the idea of this: https://www.trustbag.com/products/trustshirt?variant=27523374663 , and started researching to see if it's real or just snake oil. It looks legitimate--this stuff https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra-high-molecular-weight_polyethylene --sold under brand name Dyneema--really does have the properties they advertise. However, I can't find any other brands that make clothes out of this, and that TrustShirt thing looks overpriced and retarded as hell. They can't be the only brand that sells a Dyneema cut-proof shirt--anyone heard of any others?

>>

>authorized

>>
>>31850610
>moisture wicking
Moisture wicking shirts are a meme. All fabric is "moisture wicking," it just depends on the type of fabric that dictates how quickly or slowly the moisture evaporates. "Moisture wicking" fabric is just a way to sell shit more expensive and for you to pay for a "higher class" of clothing. Also, since it is thinner fabric by design, it will indeed keep less warmth in during colder weather.

>Can anyone redpill me on cut/rip proof clothing

Cut/rip proof clothing, at least in my experience, has given me mixed results. While I was in the Navy I wore five uniforms that utilized that technology:

>NWU Type 1
>NWU Type 3
>Desert MARPAT
>Woodland MARPAT
>flight deck uniform (511 pants)

All of these uniforms claim "rip-stop" technology, but I managed to tear three of the aforementioned five uniforms in fairly usual situations (moving around the ship, climbing into and out of helos, etc.)

I think it's just a buzzword, desu. The fabric is definitely thicker than your average shirt and pants, but it doesn't really boast much more utility, imo.

Sorry for the lengthy post.

my other biggest complaint is the velcro that holds in the knee caps is weak sauce as fuck, and I ended up sperging out and sewing on as much hook velcro around the cap as I possibly could to keep them from constantly popping out if I kneeled or caught something

That's kind of what I was expecting, but what about this Dyneema stuff?

This is the most unbiased review of it I could find. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVPW39bPFSs

The shirt is supposedly made of the same material. I'd be pretty happy with that.

I don't know why more companies aren't selling garments made out of this stuff. I'm sure it's uncomfortable and scratchy, but just wear a damn undershirt.

I know most military and civilian "rip-stop" clothing doesn't work that well. I wear jeans and leather most of the time and I think that's more protection than most of the rip-stop crap in the store. If I just wanted more thickness, I'd wear Carhartts which at least work, though they're stiff and bulky to the point of making it difficult to move quickly.

Hot fucking damn dude! So she is the chick in the pic? God damn..has she gotten any better at shooting? I remember me and my dad cringing cause her chick lean was..quite noticeable. But seeing how she was busty I understand. Took my sister awhile to fix her stance.

But I think with the suspenders it'll help distribute the weight better and make it much more comfortable. She already has a lot of weight to deal with on her chest so any little bit helps to keep her a little bit comfortable. I can't remember where but I was reading an article online about female police officers. They mentioned belts and suspenders. So maybe that is just a good set up for women? Unsure. My sister is very flat so she just has your standard chest plate. Hope I've been a little useful man. Anything to help that gal. Good luck on your searches.

The old-style D3CRs are totally gone in general from what I'm seeing on various websites. I'm pretty choked. I think they were just selling off old stock. They have the H and X models, but they're 260 bucks and no Ranger Green.
The only option is buy a colour I don't want (lol Kryptec) or replicas like the Ruskie ones or Extreme Gear Labs.
>>31855730
Those are 230 dollars USD. It'll be like 300 dollars CAD by the time I get it, which is even more than legit D3CR's are worth brand new.

How hard is this to understand.

EGL maked custom chest rigs.

EGL also designed and manufacture the DC3R.

The DC3R is one version of the chest rig they make.

If you want something similar to the DC3R, EGL can make it, since they make custom gear and also make the DC3R.

Thick fabric is a meme, all fabrics will keep you warm it just depends on the type of fabric to dictate how quickly or slowly you get cold wearing it. etc etc..

Don't be an idiot, there are tons of super cheap synthetic fabrics that do indeed draw moisture away from the skin as well as not hold on to moisture forever. Go ahead and wear cotton baselayers while up north snowshoeing or while climbing mountains.

And they're a base layer, put on a fleece of appropiate weight and maybe a down vest/jacket for super cold environments. Don't be an idiot.

Because the tech behind them is awesome and really really complex. TNVC is honestly the best for straight up fair pricing. Those OMNI VIII compliant tubes are ridiculously clear, and better than some of the tubes you find in USGI optics, which are usually only OMNI VII compliment tubes.
In fact, now that I think about it, you can even buy Opscore helmets from TNVC for a good 1-200 off of MSRP.
