Faggot with the waifu patch from late last thread.

What can you do about shoulder straps that are wanting to come undone a lot? my left strap is being a bastard, but the right one is pretty solid. It wasn't doing that until I started fussing with it, because it was tighter than the right strap.

Do I have too much weight on the vest? Is it too loose/tight? Is it just shit quality? these buckles don't seem to help keep too much in place, either.
>>
>>31859521
Is your strap only attached via that tri-bar slider?
>>
>>31859546
No, it velcros to the inside of the vet at both the front and back side. The strap just kinda sorta holds things together maybe?

Every time the velcro comes undone the strap just undoes itself, so I don't really know what it does DESU.

You are right, it might be too heavy. You could maybe upgrade to a side release buckle, which might hold the strap better. Just make sure one side has a split-bar so you don't have to re-sew anything. Buckles cost about $1 each. Make sure you get the correct width for your webbing. This will also make it easier to take on/off. Hope this helps.
>>
>>31859586
I would have to attach the buckle to the vest somehow, but that's not a bad idea.

>attach the buckle to the vest somehow
That's what the split-bar is for. I circled it this time so you can see better. You can slide the buckle onto the loop of webbing on your vest no problem. Make sure to get the right width (usually either 1" of 1-1/2") if you decide to go through with it. You may be able to come up with a better/simpler solution.

get a SADF rig too

the SADF rig is better, bigger pockets, flaps flop open when you wan them to, room for everything including 40 round pmags.

but it's huge and front-heavy if it's full of stuff.
try going prone with a full SADF rig, chicom rig I have is just 3 mag pouches and a few small pockets. slim.

Yes. I owned one, I have also owned chicoms, SADF rigs, army FLCs and nicer options.

Condor is a toy, it will not even hold up to extended range use. Stitches will fail, webbing is uneven, the nylon is brittle sometimes.

Some people say their pouches are ok, but a lot of the pouches I've gotten from them didn't have very secure snap closures and one mag shingle I got from them was too small to hold mags correctly.
>>
>>31859960
So what brands are actually decent for chestrigs? I don't care about the price as long as it's quality.

Eh, it's kinda hard for me to catch anything off by just standing in my apartment with kit on. I'm planning on taking a couple of carbine classes at the end of this semester to see how pic related treats me.

Back when I was a young geardo in the muhreenz I would literally change something about my kit after every patrol on my first deployment.
>>

>>31860223
With a budget of $135 you're going to have to compromise, but Condor is shit tier. Here is what I would do:

Beez Extreme Lightweight Plate Carrier - $80
Chicom Chest Rig - $15

That leaves $40 to go towards plates.

My suggestion when faced with a complex decision like this is always create a decision matrix. This guarantees you make the optimal decision for your needs.

If you want cheap, the SADF and chicom rigs are good to go. I would pick chicom because the prices are starting to get a little high for SADF rigs.

Slightly more expensive and giving you molle capability, you have the army surplus FLC, which can still be had in DCU or woodland. These aren't great, but can certainly be configured in a decent manner.

There are also the surplus TAP chest rigs, I don't have experience with these but I would trust the quality to be the same as the FLC.

I currently have a SKD universal rig and a tactical tailor minimav, and I have been very pleased with both of those. I've used the regular MAV as well and can endorse it.

I use a lot of TAG pouches and they are high quality, and they often have chest rigs in the clearance section on their website.

My buddies have Haley D3CRs and I like them a lot, and will probably get one of the Russian knock offs in digi flora.

Simple its light weight and the cut does not interfere with range of motion. Other systems have to much dead weight. Not to mention other solutions have too much bulk that does not conform. >>
>>31859471
Actually have been considering getting one. Anyone know how well they hold up compared to other similarly priced gear?
>>
>>31862098
problem is quite simple your carrying more weight lower on your front. 1 30rd magazine of 55gr 5.56 is 1lb. your running ak mags so roughly 1.5lbs each times 6 = 9lbs in ammo alone. plus your wearing a lvl 4 plate /lvl 3 plate. But as an example lets say your wearing a dkx m3 plate for an even number of 3 lbs.
plus you have an abdominal kit so your front weighs in roughly at the very least 13 lbs. excluding side ammo pouches or back plate.
So in conclusion weight is your problem. Your going to have to sacrifice some mags or find a way to make the back even with the front weight.

Btw your weapon set up looks excellent.

Absofuckinglutely

I've been wearing one for 6 years, every day but Sunday (dress pants time then). It has never failed, and I expect to be able to wear it for another 4 years, hopefully to 40 years.

After a couple of years the nylon webbing can start to get super fine "hair" on it from the friction of the buckle, but take a lighter to it and it all disappears, and you're ready for another few years.

I cannot recommend them enough.

Does anyone have any recommendations for starting out gear? Is it best to go cheap first and get a feel for things? or just bite the bullet and get the best first? As a general rule for pretty much everything in life, buy the best quality you can afford (that's priced fairly) so you can avoid or stave off upgrading or replacing it.

>>31863035
It's actually best not to go cheap. We have a saying around here, "buy once, cry once", Yeah you'll cry at the price but the gear will last you when you depend on it.

Now, this doesn't mean you have to go overboard. There are plenty of good options out there that won't break your wallet. There are companies like TAG and Shellback that make affordable, yet quality gear. I love my TAG Gladiator chest rig. I would save up some money and get quality stuff on your first go around instead of getting shit only to upgrade later. It's a waste of money.
>>
>>31863035
I think you should start cheap and simple. When I first started buying gear I thought I was going to carry six double-.308 mag pouches and a bunch of other stuff. Then I bought my first double mag pouch and realized how bulky and heavy that would be.
>>
>>31863064
>>31863035

It also helps to know what exactly you're going to use your gear for. Before you buy anything have a clear idea of what it's purpose will be. Is it a SHTF kit? A innawoods fun kit? Is it for work? Then think about ultimately what you'll need for whatever purpose you come up with. If you figure out what you'll want on you at all times then it's easy to set up gear around that. As a word of advice the top three things you'll want your gear to carry are, Water, First aid, and ammo. Everything other than that is all based on personal preference.
>>
>>31861810
We don't.
We get a thigh holster and you attach it to your standard belt.
Otherwise individual units buy their holsters from Blackhawk and you can do the whole belt/thigh/on your kit thing.

you can't carry a fun in the happening and not be a target.
they won't see your gear but they know you're armed so you probably have ammo or mags, but you'll just as likely get shot for your gun as you would be with gear.
>>
>>31865073
Belt rig with 2 to 3 primary mags, 1 secondary mag, a pistol and holster, a dump pouch, and a small IFAK. Get suspenders if you want to add more. If you do your research and get all the right gear and slap it on the belt in all the right places, you could manage to get it trim enough to hide under a Carhartt.
>>
>>31865081
I'm visiting family today, and my father hikes and hunts with an ALICE rig. Here's his advice for you.
>If you haven't already, attach the pouches with paracord or zipties instead of the standard ALICE clips. Ten times comfier.
>Pad the belt with yoga mat material or get an HSGI Micro Grip Belt Panel. If the latter, sew velcro into the inside of the belt to attach it. Makes things nice and comfy even if you're rucking it long distance.
>Make sure you distribute the weight evenly and maintain balance across the belt or you'll hate yourself after a few miles.
>Ditch the canteens and get a backpack with a hydration bladder or space for Nalgene bottles on the sides.
>>
>>31865169
True enough, would I look like an edge lord at the range though? I would like to make some shooting buddies, but I don't want to look silly, so no one at the range will want to talk to me.

Just make sure you find one in stock somewhere. Protec's website is extremely slow as they are no longer the "in" product. The helmets themselves are pretty damn snug and I enjoy wearing mine with my NV, it is basically a snowboard/bike helmet that is extremely comfy. I have taken a tumble in mine before without issue. Sure you may look autistic but no more autistic than a plate carrier and full cammies. While shooting in the woods you are far more likely to trip and fall into a tree than taking frag or IIIA rated projectiles to the head.

I've been shopping for a good backpack/ruck since I decided the one I have now doesn't work very well. I found Terry Baldwin has some really good articles about the history and evolution of gear based on Infantry and SOF experience. I am basing the following pack on his recommendations:

ALICE pack, medium
1606 airborne assault frame
MOLLE shoulder straps, kidney belt, and sleep system carrier

I can get unissued gear in M81 woodland, so I'm going to do that. It costs a little more that way, but I prefer it. I'm also going to send the pack to Tactical Tailor to add reinforcements, all fastex buckles, and an hydration pocket. The pack will be about $100 before I send it in for mods. Pic is semi-related.

I want a chest rig for an MP5 clone. I have a belt rig that I carry 3 mags on, but I want to be able to carry 4 mags on my chest if I feel like it. I was looking into the Chinese Type 79, but as other anons in this thread mentioned, its pouches are designed for some pretty weird magazines and wouldn't hold an MP5 magazine securely. I would prefer to get something milsurp, because I don't want to spend a shitton of money on more MOLLE coolguy stuff and just prefer chest rigs to be sewn together rather than pieced together with MALICE clips. Am I shit out of luck, or is there such a chest rig? I'm about to just bite the bullet and buy a Type 79 to see if I can mod it.

Would you guys put tampons in a first aid kit?
>>
>>31874320
Solution: inflatable plastic fat guy legs from a sumo wrestler Halloween costume and a shitty hoodie from the Big and Tall store.
>>
>>31874342
Pads are much better because you can use them as absorbent gauze pads when you bandage a wound. Also, they are comfier to operate in if you have a vagina.
>>
>>31874328
I don't know if this is out of your budget, but my recommendation would be getting a molle panel chest rig and some bluforce gear 10 speed SMG pouches. When I was thinking about buying an MP5 from one of my buddies getting his SOT I was gonna get the Crye Airlite chest rig with two BFG 10 speed quad SMG pouches. Just my two cents.

How are Gorkas in the snow?

I was watching some footage from eastern Ukraine last night and saw a dude in one of these:

Made me want to get one, but I'm just not sure it will be good for colorado.

>>
>>31875068
I use the gorka 4. So its a little different from the other gorkas in that its a pullover and literal sack system. I use a summer suit and honestly I've never had to use anything else in the cold. Its a sack, you won't get wet, you won't get cold but you will be hot as fuck. It doesn't breathe at all. I've buried myself in the snow and have stayed dry no problem. I've stood in hurricanes and stayed dry no problem. Beats nature pretty well.

I have one of the gorka suits and will be thoroughly testing it this winter. They are a heavy canvas with no insulation so eventually they will soak through and you need an under layer. I am using arcteryx for my under layer and ill see how that turns out.

Id loan you it but I dont know if you'd fit in it. Either way when winter comes let me know and we can do some snow operating.

Dont actually do this. They are made to draw out and absorb liquid in a pussy not actually stop bleeding.

If you think this is a good idea please get a little bit of medical training before you buy a bunch of gear.
>>
>>31875171
I dont believe thats true. I've known plenty of EMS and combat medics who used tampons to save lives. From what I understand of them they ARE good for penetrations. Mind you I'm just EMT-b so I could be full of horse shit right?

This is a good article on this.

This is a myth. Please, please believe me on this i know what im talking about. Get some H&H and some sterile 4x4 gauze. All the compressed gauze and 4x4 you could possibly need to pack a gun shot wound has got to be the same price or cheaper than a pack of tampons. Just get the right tool for the job. We are not plugging a pussy here. Use gauze.

FS is made of a weave material, not meant to be durable. Perroz/Ferro have great carriers for around $150.

Besides ITW buckle and cummerbund compatibility, comfort really doesn't matter because you're not expect to hang 30+ pounds off it.

You're really paying for weight distribution and comfort. For a dedicated carrier, an AVS will be better than a 6094.
