Some guy on gunbroker had Russian combo blocks for $200 about a week ago, pick up a sporter?

He had the auction for the blocks titled kind of weird and I can't recall, I wanted one at that price...

The CR/104 setup is really nice. It just feels tight, compact, balance with the optic is perfect. If you get a chance do it!

I shot the shit out of it. I don't know what it's from I know someone who works at an autoparts store and I just have them save all the rotors/clutches/flywheels for me. Never have to buy steel plates but naturally 5.56 turns it all into swiss cheese.

A friendly nighttime /k/ thread with lots of information.

For example, this guy tested a bunch of AK muzzle devices and ranked them on flash suppression:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpkbuCjvbJk

I'm not sure about all of his numbers, and every device's ranking was based on only three shots, with varying amounts of flash from shot to shot on many devices tested. There was one enormous stainless muzzle brake that looked, just based on their measurements, like a fair flash suppressor too, when such devices normally shoot enormous jets of blinding white fire in all directions, and I wonder whether with different ammunition, or a sample of more than three shots, we might have seen something different.

Otherwise there aren't many surprises. The Russian AKML device, designed for use with night vision gear, is an outstanding flash suppressor, as are the Damage Industries and Krebs pronged units. The Bulgarian Trashcan may even be the best of them all--at least with the ammo they tried--but it's ginormous and weighs like two pounds, so maybe it's not for everyone (though by all accounts Spetsnaz loves theirs). Oh, and two devices, the Manticore "Night Brake" and a huge multi-chambered comp called the SR47, were consistently brighter than a bare muzzle.

I am personally of the opinion that for home defense, as much as for military issue, flash suppression is a tremendously important criterion. It's not like 7.62x39mm recoil is severe, much less 5.45x39mm. And a lot of the high-efficiency brakes make you pay for that recoil compensation in spades--in blinding huge white fireballs on every shot, and in obnoxious concussion that's merely a nuisance on the range, but could get you killed if circumstances dictated that you were in the position of clearing rooms with a partner--it's hard to shoot straight when your partner's muzzle brake has ruptured your eardrums and set your hair on fire.

So, what's the deal with oval "lightening cuts" on AK74 type stocks?

I have heard the claim that part of their purpose is that, back at the time when Russian military arsenals would have both AK74s and AKMs in the racks at the same time, the lightening cuts were to make the 5.45mm weapons instantly visually distinguishable from the 7.62x39mm weapons, sort of like the red "9" on a Broomhandle Mauser converted to 9mm.

I have heard other things--that they were to reduce weight to make good on promises that 5.45mm weapons would come in below a certain weight target and be significantly lighter than the AKM, and other things.

So, are stocks with lightening cuts correct on a 7.62x39mm AK, or not? They look wrong to me, just based on the "red '9'" analogy above, but maybe I'm just weird.

I've got a WASR in 5.56mm and the black Bulgy Waffles don't fit it unless I remove a lot of material from each side with a rasp. The magwell was apparently cut for the old East German steel "Weiger" mags only, which aren't easy to come by. I have considered altering the magwell but decided against it.

I'd be more enthusiastic about the variable if it had the reticle in the first focal plane, so that you could use the ranging and holdover marks on any power setting instead of it having to be exactly right in order to work.

I'm hearing nothing bad about the 3x version with the 7.62x39mm reticle at all.

There's also the Primary Arms 2.5x Compact, an ACOG-ish little scope with an illuminated etched rangefinding reticle and similar dots range-setting dots at -4.74 MOA, -8.43 MOA, and -12.44 MOA. Assuming we are using a mounting system that puts the center axis of the scope 2.6" above bore height (the same height as an AR15's irons, or about 5/8" higher than the iron sight axis of the AK) we use the center dot as a 200m battlesight zero, we get a center dot zero for 200m, dot below that as 300m, dot below that as 360m, and bottom dot as 420m. At least assuming we're using Russian milspec M43 ball, with a bullet with G7 ballistic coefficient 0.158 at 2350 ft/sec muzzle velocity.

Nice. Will you do a paracord wrap? I'm told that with 550 cord it usually takes 15-20 feet to do it right, depending of course on the exact diameter of that batch of cord, whether you want to wrap on a strip of rubber tape on the top for a cheekrest, etc.

Also people tell me that if you shoot a lot a paracord wrap will absorb a lot of sweat--enough to eat through Gunkote or Duracoat--so you might consider wrapping the refinished metal with electrical tape before you get out the paracord.

Ok, so a friend of mine bought one of those Romanian kits from Arms of America because he saw good reviews and the price. It came in today and I helped him go through it.

The thing was in terrible shape; scuffs and cracks all over the wooden furniture, demilling work that makes century arms handywork look like the mona lisa, selector stop plate and trigger guard are bent to hell and unusable, butt plate is rusted and has been corroded thoroughly and is also unusable. And there are so many things wrong with it that I can't list them.

But everyone in the review section is giving it thumbs up and saying they got great condition kits. Is the owner faking reviews or did he get a lemon?

Hmm, I never tested it after a mag dump. I'm pretty sure the Ultimak tri-rail uses a steel clamp; that's what I have. A lot depends on barrel length/thickness as far as harmonics, and if the clamp is at a node. Idk, there's a lot that goes into it.

derka derka jihad, derka derka jihad

People laugh when I say desert camo can work pretty well innawoods, depending on lighting, background, time of year, density and type of vegetation, and so on.

There's a reason the old M81 "Woodland" was only about 40% green and the other 60% was the colors of shadows, bare earth, and dead vegetation. A forest only looks like a wall of green from the outside. Step inside the treeline and there's just about always a deep layer of dead leaves or dead pine needles everywhere underfoot, the color of rust.

Lmao, I saw the same thing a couple weekends ago on Mesa/Broadway at around noon. There wasn't even any traffic from it. Like it was just a part of the surroundings. I used to live in Tempe and would only rarely see accidents. Since living in Laveen for two years I've seen more accident just on Baseline than I've seen in my whole life prior. It boggles my mind. 9/10 it's Mexicans in SUVs. The freeway accidents are getting unbearable though. I still shutter at the thought of that string of semi crashes on the 10 that would leave morning traffic gridlocked every other week.

>well, it's not like it's impossible to reform 7.62x39 brass into 5.45
>is it?

It is, actually. They're two totally different, unrelated cases. 5.45x39 is NOT a necked-down 7.62x39. Case head diameters are .388" for the 5.45, .443" for the 7.62x39, and so on.

Also, 5.45mm does NOT use .224" diameter bullets. They're .220" to .221". .224" bullets may or may not chamber and they'll drive pressures way up if they actually do. No one outside Russia makes .221" jacketed bullets.

The American reloader is left with trying to half-ass 5.45mm brass out of shortened and necked-down .222 Remington and use swaging equipment to force .224" bullets through a .221" die to reduce their diameters a bit. Or you could try casting bullets, though lots of luck running lead bullets through an AK at pressures and velocities that would actually run the gas system.

There was nothing wrong with the grid in 1960 when the population was a third of what it currently is. But I'll give a few of my thoughts.

>No good east-west through road that runs the length of town. 101 and the 10 make a nice giant loop but not fast to get from say, 7th st and camelback to 99th and McDowell.

>Grand is the biggest clogged up piece of worthless shit ever, riddled with stoplights and unconstitutional photo radar in the Peoria area. Useless if you have to get somewhere quick.

>I-10 could be 10 lanes wide and constantly be fucked, I don't know what could solve the problem besides deporting the entire Hispanic population and having the police enforce citations for people who slow down to look at accidents.

>Metro Phoenix takes a few days off your life every time you pass through. Congestion everywhere, bums and crackheads, beggars, people looking suicidal as they wait to catch a bus, every corner looks the same with a circle k, payday loan place or drug store every block.

TL;DR: without guns this place is useless.

>>
>>
>>31819214
no market for it
if a reloader has to trim .222 rem brass (already a specialty item) and whatever else, there's probably very little demand

they probably use every single .220" bullet to produce finished ammo

Most people are just transporting themselves from point a to point b. We honestly need a push for parachute flyers... If we just got like 1/10 the rush hour shit off the road it would be a huge deal. A bit like the freeway grid in the metro Detroit area, maybe?

>Interstates and freeway system planned in 1940s-50s
>lots of big freeways running to downtown Detroit factory sites from bedroom-town 'burbs where the auto workers sleep between double shifts
>I-94, I-96 and I-696, I-75 and I-275, the M10, M14, and M39 too
>then come the 1967 riots
>googles burn down the city and begin ethnic cleansing of whites, in the process convincing the auto makers there's no future there
>all freeways were planned when the entire population, pretty much, lived in Ann Arbor and worked in Detroit, or lived in Troy and worked in Detroit, or lived in Novi and worked in Detroit, etc.
>fast forward a few decades and Detroit is basically Haiti with snow, with no economic activity other than the drug trade and that which takes place at Slappy's Liquor Store, Bail Bonds, and Afrikan Hair Weaves on the first of every month
>and now everyone in SE Michigan who has a job lives in Livonia and works in Troy, or lives in Ypsilanti and works in Ann Arbor, or lives in Brownstown and works in Warren
>freeways are a hideous clusterfuck, enormous parking lots 25 miles long from 8am-10:30am and 3:30pm-7pm every. fucking. day.
>no one knows what's wrong, no one knows what to do
>every year the DOT digs up and repaves those same six miles of I-275 running past Livonia
>mysteriously this fails to fix the traffic congestion
>such is life in the Zone
