ARs are the only assault rifle worth owning in the United States.

/akg/ I need some advice. I want to get an optic for my AK. What's the best thing I should look for that is:

Made for AKs (none of that picatinny rail bullshit)
Looks authentic
Cheap (The cheaper the better)
Would prefer magnified but doesn't have to be
Would prefer a style actually used by some glorious AK wielding country.

I will reward you with (you)s

Kalinka optics
>>
>>31807377
Your best bet would probably be an LPS/TIP2.
They were readily available a few years ago for ~$120 or so, but they seem to have dried up.
So you'll be hunting for one.
Be wary of Ebay, there's a lot of airshit fakes posted as the real deal.

Maybe a PSO/POSP?
>>
>>31807433
Thanks anon those look promising, I'll keep my eye out for one. What's a decent PSO/POSP run for now and are there any I should stay away from?

Seriously. Did whoever made that list NOT know how shitty those DDI shotguns are? They are cheap chinese shit, imported by DDI and engraved with their name, and their locking lugs have a bad habit of sheering off while shooting.
They REALLY should be removed from the shotgun section. They are actually dangerous guns.

Someone got a hold of my debit card info so no more PayPal for me until my bank gets it all resolved. It's kind of a blessing and a curse at the same time: I won't be able to buy more AK stuff I don't need but at the same time I won't be able to buy anything.

Eight more true blacks are coming in and half of those are coming from Russia so I've got a nice wait to occupy my time with I guess.
>>
>>31810124
Hopefully an AK-103 non-neutered brake and a push button recoil rod coming from Russia soon

Seller has almost no feedback though
>>
>>31810183
I almost bought a neutered 103 brake yesterday but that's how I knew something was up with my card because PayPal wasn't working, then I tried Amazon and Amazon wasn't working, then I went to buy a candy bar from a gas station down the street to see if my cars would work and it didn't

I'm cond of glad I didn't get the neutered brake though because all it would have done is make me want a non neutered brake and spend more money.
>>
>>31810222
>cond
Kind
>>
>>31810222
You can get the neutered ones repaired
>>
>>31810304
Yeah but that's just more work and it wouldn't be """original"""

I don't know why I like 5.45 brakes so much, they're just neat and the brake on these guns is one of the most iconic military muzzle brakes out there and that just makes them cool to me. They hurt my wallet though.
>>
>>31810183

A trump victory would merely indicate Russian meddling in the American election, as anyone with faith in their fellow countrymen would understand, the american people will not under any circumstances elect a racist sex offender as president. Thus any affirmative result for Trump would almost certainly be put on hold while an appropriate response to Russia could be planned.

If a Trump win could be linked to either hacking or voters influenced by Russian-linked propaganda, there would be severe consequences for all involved, either wittingly or unwittingly.

These are things that normal people who live in reality well understand.

7.62x39
draco has the chromed lined barrel. mine was a neat novelty for a while.
>>
This being the AK general, does anyone know of a source for decent-quality, stockpile-able 7.62x39mm ammo with expanding bullets? First preference is Ulyanovsk 8M3 bullet, second preference is Ulyanovsk 8HP bullet. Want it loaded in cases either lacquered or copper washed, with sealed primers and case necks for long term storage.

Is anybody making anything like this? I know half the steel-case plinking ammo in 7.62x39mm out there has bullets described as hollowpoints, but ballistic gelatin tests show that if it isn't 8M3 or 8HP it can't be depended upon to actually expand. Also lacquered cases and copper-washed cases seem to be totally out of fashion currently, all importers having replaced them with these "poly coat" shit that turns your hands black when you load mags and looks like they may just be dusting bare steel cases with a bit of powdered graphite to help extraction, and the cases seem to rust up real good instantly if anybody so much as looks at them with a teary eye. This ammo is also universally NOT sealed at primers or case necks.

Looking for stockpilable ammo with reliable expanding bullets--no steel-jacketed "softpoints" that don't expand, no gucci Western commercial hunting bullets that are loaded in bare steel cases that aren't lacquered or sealed, and sure as FUCK no dollar-a-pop commercial hunting ammo. Does what I'm looking for exist or do I have to get in the time machine and go back to 1998?

To start, having a milled receiver automatically elevates it above WASRs and NPAPs. Next, you have the amazing barrels they ship with; or the concentric threading for suppressors, and amazing triggers.

There is a reason why in over 20,000 rifles, <9 have been returned to the factory on warranty claims.

question: does anyone have any experience with a lot of different AK muzzle devices? Specifically for 7.62x39mm?

I'm looking for a highly effective flash suppressor. I hear that the A2 design is good for 5.56mm and have seen web pages with tests but I have not seen tests of flash suppressors for 7.62x39.

We all know the slant brake/spoon brake traditionally found on AKMs is not very useful for flash suppression. Currently I am using a Tapco copy of the old Russian RPK flash suppressor--it's a short birdcage with five slots. With Russian plinking-grade steelcase 7.62x39mm ammo its performance is fair to good. Are there better? Preferably without long open prongs in front, which tend to collect foreign matter quickly innawoods? Trying to minimize weight and bulk here.
>>
>>31812412
Yeah, when I save stuff with the 4chan app on my phone, it keeps the original filename.

Current irrational gunboner: pic related.

It's from DDI. I had been thinking about a build like this for a while, but it's already the way I want, except for maybe cutting 1" or 2" or so off the barrel and pinning and welding on a flash suppressor to bring the length back up to the legal 16".

I want to put FDE furniture on it and a paracord wrap on the buttstock and hug it and squeeze it and name it George. srsly, though.
>>
>>31812812
because the gas port is really close to the end of the muzzel creating less back pressure to cycle the action. adding the booster makes it more reliable without having to drill a oversized gas port in the barrel.

Does anybody else here love rollerlocked rifles?

PTR is making a PTR91/HK91-based design now called the PTR32, similar to the HK32 from the 1970s. It's in 7.62x39mm and uses AK mags. I hear mixed reports on it--10.5 pounds unloaded, poor triggers, finicky about magazines, etc. Anyone here have one?

Are there any real differences between an AK47 and AKM aside from milled vs stamped?
>>
>>31812928
There are differences in the furniture. An AKM wooden stock is more straight-line, an AK47 stock has much more drop at the heel. AKM lower handguards have palm swells, AK47 lower handguards don't. AKMs have a threaded muzzle and a muzzle device as standard, usually a slant brake. AK47s have unthreaded muzzles.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head but I'm sure there are other differences.

Cheek weld is not great on underfolders, no. It is better than on the tubular "crutch" folders you see on late East German, Polish, and Romy guns, and the similar but not identical stamped sheetmetal "crutch" folders on Egyptian and Hungarian guns. You can wrap the appropriate side with paracord and it will make a difference, though.

AK100 series folders > triangle folders >>> underfolders > East German/Polish/Romy/Hungarian/Egyptian "crutch" folders
>>
>>31813262
We might be able to have it next year. The 30" OAL shortest is part of the current AW definition. If the gun is registered as an AW, then theoretically, it should be able to have all the features listed and be shorter than 30" folded. I am not advocating registration but there is a silver lining.

Welcome to the club.

The furniture that comes on the WASR is perfectly serviceable. For a truck gun, replace the plain blond stock wood with the ugly unfinished laminate from an old WASR and you won't care if it gets scratched a bit.

I painted mine. Rust-Oleum satin "Dark Taupe" is a good match for Flat Dark Earth and ten or twelve coats of matte clearcoat (really it dries more semigloss) build up enough of a layer that you can scrub it with a green nylon scouring pad and get a real matte finish.

I'm not so sure. Where I am, I haven't seen a WASR at all, even at gun shows, since summer. I got one for $600 cash and carry this summer. The base plate seems loose?

Well, unload it and take it apart. AK mags are brilliantly simple. Let's see. The parts of a milspec mag should be:

the mag tube
the follower
the spring
the inner bottom plate thingy that latches the bottom plate on
the bottom plate

Take apart a couple mags, look at them. You'll see. The follower can only fit back in one way. See if anything's different or missing in the mag that's behaving differently.

If you're missing the inner bottom plate then maybe you can get another one at a gun show, or buy a rusty junk mag to pull the part out. Or just get a pair of pliers and tighten the fit of the bottom plate on that mag.

It's an easy fix, I'm sure.

In the twenty mags I bought, one of them had about a pound of Cosmolene inside it when I took it out of the baggie. I fixed that with lots of boiling water, an old toothbrush, and dishwashing liquid. Another one had rust in between the feed lips causing the follower to jam and stick hard in place when it gets to the top--it loads okay, feeds okay, it's just a pain. I guess I'll have to try to get a little wire brush tool for the Dremel and try to clean that out. Another of the mags has a shallow, barely visible dent on one side, as if the tube had been stepped on, that stops the mag follower about a third of the way down. I'm trying to think of a way to fix it that doesn't involve sawing a hole in one side to pound out the dent. Maybe some kind of long rod or piece of rebar with a place that sticks out, that I can stick through the mag tube to pound out the dent without cutting holes in it?

Are you in az ? They do have a store front .
>>
>>31813811
That's why if you want a polymer mag with steel reinforcements, I recommend the AK30.

Not shilling, they do the same thing for a lower price. They were 30 but now they're 20 bucks each, and again, delicious fakelite.
>>
>>31813657
Speaking of mag carriers, does anyone have any preferences? I'm not looking for MOLLE gear or plate carriers or anything like that, just a pouch I can throw over my shoulder and go.

Midway USA sells one. I'm looking at others, like the Hungarian and Yugo surplus 4 and 5 cell mag carriers that sometimes come up. Does anyone have any opinions for things like this?

If you might possibly get rifle go innawoods you need a way to carry a few spare mags with you, right?

IMHO, the surplus bags are the way to go unless u get a tactical fanny-mag-dump-bag that can hold about 10 lol. Pic semi related, ive seen some 3x wider than these.
>>
>>31813833
Oh I see the part about the steel reinforcements now. They always looked full polymer to me so I glossed right over them. I didn't know they were considered fakelites as the body looks very different.
>>
>>31813904
Thanks. Who's got good deals on the surplus ones currently?
>>
>>31813921
They do make a less expensive version without the steel reinforcements, so be sure of what you're buying. If you get them directly from US Palm, the non-reinforced ones are called "Range Mags."

The cracking is common to both designs, I don't use any non-surplus magazines anymore (other than polish v-project) and have never had issues with anything but the pmag, and Bulgarian 5.56 waffles (cracking above the front lug, still perfectly usable, but I won't be buying more)
>>
>>31813856
Well they are not open on the weekend fyi
>>31813954
Im jelly
>>
>>31814007
Very nice. Make sure they are indeed the reinforced type.

I bought the 5-pack of range mags because they may become valuable in the future, plus the free grip which I wanted anyway.

Does anyone know anything about these? Specifically if the atf considers it a suppressor or not.

Im sure there are others in Google land.
>>
>>31813834
I like the Hungarian or Yugo mag carriers, they come with a spot for cleaning kit, oil bottle, and hold from three to five mags depending on the exact one you get. The Hungarian vinyl bags in particular are very durable
>>
>>31814044
I'd be very careful. I've seen threads about those on other firearms forums. You could send a letter to the ATF and ask them, I guess, but I'm afraid to ask any technical questions of the people who decided a shoelace was a machine gun.

To my eye it looks too much like a monocore and an outer shell. I would be afraid to buy one, even if it might be a pretty good brake (note that suppressors, with all their baffles, are very effective brakes too). You never know, looking at stuff like that, whether the ATF is about to demand their customer list and start rolling the SWAT teams to do a little door-kicking.

It's like the guy who for years and years sold what he said were "perfectly legal" drop-in AR auto sears in Shotgun News. I saw the ads lots of times. Never thought for more than a second about buying any of his stuff.
>>
>>31814044
The ATF will fuck your shit up if they catch you with that, no doubt. Even if you proved with a decibel meter that it doesn't decrease sound at all they'd still fuck you up. They didn't let the MPX "muzzle brake" slide and they definitely wouldn't let that slide. If you had it mailed in you could potentially file a Form 1 and claim that you made it yourself and it could be a Form 1 suppressor, but doing that would still be illegal.

There are lots of ways to hold it, depending on what you're doing. Shooting from the bench, shooting prone, doing room clearing, and so on.

Here, have an instructional video.

>I'm trying to think of a way to fix it that doesn't involve sawing a hole in one side to pound out the dent.
I use the handle end of a breaker bar.
It's rectangular and I put it in on the "long" side (of the rectangle), rotate it to the shorter side that's wider and push it up against the dents.
It's a little wider than the mag body and it works kinda like a "spoon" in autobody work and presses the dents out.

Bought a bunch of mags that had stuck followers and made them all 100% functional.
>>
>>31814362
I have. It's alright. Felt heavier with a buffer and magpul ctr. Sold it and switched back to triangle. I'd get the manticore arms version.
>>
>>31814184
This >>31813231 is a Kassnar SA85M I got off gunbroker for $1200. I'd guess only had a few 100 rounds through it. Only caveat was the furniture was soiled with oil or something. I tried refinishing it but eventually bought a Russian set and haven't looked back. I nearly sold it to abernaturlich, glad I kept it, it really sparked my interest in AKs
>>
>>31814589
I wondered what it was. I knew the wood was either Russian or polish. Didn't suspect hungo
>>
>>31813685

I still have the dong I only replaced it with a refinished balkan war stock set.

>breaker bar.
Thanks. Is the one in the image the one you're using? I think it says "Craftsman" on the handle end but cannot be sure.

When I Google for breaker bars, I keep finding them with round handles, which wouldn't work the way you're describing.
>>
>>31814903
Yeah, it's a Craftsman.
It's the one I have, but it does seem like (looking through google images) that a lot, if not most, breaker bars available have rounded handles, so yeah they wouldn't work.

I've also read about guys using a 13mm(?) socket in the same fashion, but I have no experience with that.

Also there was a guy who took a large bolt and rounded off the corners to use as a "spoon".

There's this way too.

A custom one built by a shop here in my city. It'd be kinda funny if they saw this on here.

>>31815141
This took forever to upload to google drive for some reason but here.
>>
>>31815223
Hmm. Not bad looking at all. The wooden grip is a bit unusual, and the combination of laminated buttstock and not-laminated everything else is a little unusual, but I hope it shoots well for you.

also,

>dat Moonman hat
>>

Hungarian parts kit
>>
>>31815223
Dope. You should refinish that furniture to make it super sexy. I recommend ruby shellac.
>>
I just received my PM md. 63 kit from Arms of America today. Not much bluing left, my stock and dong had trench art, and the buttstock plate had some holes eaten into it. God knows what the fuck kinda crusty shit is on my mag release.

That one guy was right, they're pretty rough, but still usable. Overall they're in servicable condition but be prepared to put some elbow grease into refinishing.
>>
>>31815282
Yeah I'll probably end up replacing the stock at some point. I mainly just wanted to buy an AK to go with my AR before the election, and when the shop building it offered to either let me take my pick of furniture they had on the rack or order one I just picked this set since I figure I'll end up replacing it all at some point anyway.

Also, is it normal for AKs to have a really short length of pull? I want to get a recoil pad or something just so it's more comfortable to shoulder. I'm not Hickock sized or anything either, I'm totally average.

And yeah I bought the hat specifically because I knew I was buying an AK.

>>31815311
NASCAR store, but I think they're sold out now since the throwback race is over. That's why I bought 2 ;^)

>>31815333
Yeah. And I think the furniture is Romanian? I feel like a dipshit for not writing down what country all the parts came from when he explained it to me.

I went into this knowing jack shit about AKs, and I still really don't. From lurking here a little first, it seems /k/ can't seem to decide which AKs are good and bad except for Arsenals, and this came out to about the same price as an Arsenal, but with a lifetime warranty and the fact the guy who built it is right up the road from me should I ever have any problems with it. Plus I like to support local businesses when I can.

>>31815351
Thats an option too, but I live in an apartment now and don't really have a good place to do any kind of woodworking. I currently work on my car in the parking lot, but I get the feeling working on rifle parts there might be a little over the line lel.
>>
>>31815413
Yes, AKs are notorious for having manlet stocks.
>>
>>31815223
There really is something absolutely breathtaking about a normal AKM with wooden furniture... no frills, nothing fancy... just an AKM. Gorgeous. Rest in peace, Lt. Gen. Mikhail Kalashnikov. You've made the world a better place for gun owners.
