>shit bayonet that isn't even the cool type 56's spike bayonet
Are you implying one can just go out and acquire a spike bayonet to put on their Chinese AK without removing the front sight or using a gay clamping method and without having a proper lower handguard to accommodate a spike bayonet?

Are you also implying that the Chinese ONLY made spike models with their stamped Type 56 rifles?

>>31773240
Yes, because somebody taking a gun out to take some photos of it while obviously making sure it's clear and unloaded while they're taking fucking photographs in their own house is exactly the same as someone having a loaded firearm and having their finger on the trigger.

Have you never seen anyone ever prop a gun up in that way? It's super common, every local gun shop does it.

>>31773260
Just because you're unable to properly clear and make safe a firearm before taking it out and around the house doesn't mean the rest of are unable to as well. I for one don't worry about NDs around my house because I know all the guns in my safe are unloaded and even then when I take them out of the safe I double check. It isn't fucking rocket science. It obviously isn't fucking loaded, do you really think all the AKs in this thread are sitting there loaded while their owners take pictures of them? Of fucking course not, unless the pic is of them actually shooting the thing.

>>31773272

Looking at my first AK and I know a lot of people recommend WASR and NPAP, but they're now $760 and $680 on Atlantic. Seems stupid to buy when they're almost double the price from last year. Should I just fork over the cash for an Arsenal instead?
>>
>>31773650
Honestly, now that N-PAPs come with a decent warsaw pattern stock installed, there is literally nothing wrong with N-PAPs unless you plan on doing a lot of aftermarket stuff. Personally I think you get a nicer product than a WASR at only a marginally higher price.

Or maybe it's because I'm stuck in the old school line of thinking... which is that WASRs come with shit QC.
>>
>>31773650
>What is an election year
>What are less imports because of military contracts

You picked a shit time to get an AK.
But an Arsenal is worth it, minus the shit finish.
>You can still find WASRs and NPAPs for less than ScamLantics gouge prices, shop around.
>>
>>31773750
The finish is what makes me hesitant about getting an Arsenal. A $1300 SAM7 has the shittiest spray painted finish I've ever seen on a rifle (granted I don't look at a lot of shit rifles).

Question about AK scope rail. Also, sorry for shitty mspaint pic....

I've got a Saiga and a WASR, bought the Saiga first.
I've got a PKA and a PSO that I bought when I only owned the Saiga. Both scopes fit on the Saiga just fine.

Bought the WASR last month, and I cannot get either scope to go onto the side rail, even if I completely unscrew and remove the locking lever (sorry, not sure exactly what it's called).
I removed the finish from the scope rail on the gun, and cold blued it to keep it from rusting, but still neither scope will fit.

My next option is to remove some metal from the dovetail on the rail of the rifle, NOT the scope.

Wondering if I should: (in the picture the red is the dovetail and the black is the receiver)
-remove a bit of the top surface of the dovetail, decreasing distance 4
-remove a bit of corners 2 and 2, to decrease a bit of distance 1
-file down the inside of the dovetail, to decrease distance 3
-some combination of those
-none of those, something entirely different

Anybody?

Hi /akg/,

I have a CZ858/VZ58, it shoots fine with iron sights and the casings(Chinese Surplus) ejects fine without fail every time.

However, I got this rifle with a Kobra Sight and every 1-2 rounds I either get pic related or a stove pipe. I think the sight might be too far forward but in my next post I'm going to post the side rail.
>>
>>31774615

Came with the rifle. It's a kit built gun by JBI Armory. I'd assume it came in the kit, but the pistol grip was added by me when I bought it.

>>
>>31774867
Not saying there's anything 'wrong' with it...it just looks a bit long. Comically long actually.
But, the important part is the back of the dovetail (closest to the buttstock) because that's what stops the scope going forward, and that appears to be a bit too far forward, compared to pics of other VZ58 side rails. This would cause the scope to be too far forward. Maybe by 3/4 or an inch or so.

If you don't get more advice this thread, ask again in another. Maybe find a VZ58 owners forum similar to AKfiles or something.

Dear /akg/

I just bought two milsurp mags here in eurostan. They seem to have a bolt open feature , the follower goes all the way up. It does not seem that they were grîded off or anything.

Anyone knows anything about these mags ? What is the point of a bolt hold open feature on a military mag?

There isnt a point of bolt open in an unmodified AK. Hold open is only really useful if the bolt stays back for you to insert another mag so you dont have to work the charging handle. As AKs do not have a bolt release it would do nothing but make it a little more obvious your out of ammo.

As a side note it is possible they have a swapped follower in a surplus mag.
>>
>>31776341
Are they Yugo mags? Those are the steel mags I know that have the bolt hold open. But its mostly so you can feel when the bolt doesn't go home, and you can change your mags

I know this question probably isn't entirely /akg/ related, but I wanted to gather opinions on a new build I might be doing. How would you all feel about a slam fire 7.62x39 gun made with a surplus yugo M70 barrel? It would have your standard tube style receiver, and would have a set screw mounted steel collar over the gas port that would be JB welded in place.

It feels solid and doesn't have a sight cant. The only thing that annoys me are a few of the rivets are squished at the edge. He didn't do it with a hammer or anything, but the edges are just a bit off. Though I did kind of rush him and he does have a large work load, so I attribute it to that. Cool.
Your thoughts on the quality of their work (besides the rivets), and the price you paid?
I'm looking for someone to convert my Saiga.
>>
>>31778675
Aside from the rivets, it looks great. I opted to not have it refinished since the barrel and receiver were already anodized and I didn't want the "Zastava-Kragujavec Yugoslavia" stamp covered so I can't comment on his finishing ability. But the barrel population looks good and the stock is solid, not sure what all goes into a saiga conversion, but he seems to know his stuff
>>
>>31778733
>not sure what all goes into a saiga conversion

All I would need him to do is remove neutered barrel components and populate it with real ones. So it sounds like something he could do.
I'll give him a call tomorrow and get a quote and time frame.
Thanks.

I've got an older WASR that has served me flawlessly after about 5000 rounds now, but the gas block is canted. The rear sight block and front sight are both straight, only the gas block is leaning a little to the right. I don't have the tools or know how to fix this myself (functions fine, just my autism wanting it straight). About how much would it cost to have someone simply fix the canted gas block, and would they be able to do so without scratching up the barrel and having it need a rattlecan job?

I'm ordering a receiver and wondering if I should have my front and rear trunnion holes pre-drilled or not. Is there any reason to drill the holes myself?

Second is that should I buy a barrel that already has the gas port drilled or should I buy one that I would need to drill myself?

On further research, the solution seems to be to pull the gas tube and tap the gas block over with a hammer while you have the gun in a vice.

However, this might be along the lines of, "if it ain't broke" since the sights line up and the gun functions fine.

5.45 will probably still get made domestically if direct imports from Barnaul/Ulyanovsk are banned. I doubt it'll really affect the steel cases, which Hornady uses to make their 5.45.

That said, it'll make 5.45 exponentially more expensive to shoot. Like "45 to .50 per round" expensive.

No one knows until someone actually make new BBs for non-ARs. Hell, even BB 2.0 is not guaranteed to be legal, since DOJ won't tell you. We would have to wait until someone with a BB 2.0 equipped rifle is prosecuted to know if they're actually compliant. We can also go featureless for just about every rifle. For AK, all you would need to do is take off the grip or use a kydex wrap on the grip, fix the stock if it's a folder, and put on a muzzle brake if it has a flash hider.
>>
>>31782370
Idk. Mine was pre contract rush.
>>
>>31783582
Besides some fitment issues, there's nothing wrong with them. Also the BHO feature is pretty nice. I had to file down the rear locking lug on my Croatian mags to get them to lock completely in my SAM7SF
>>
>>31785137
Also they're heavy as a motherfucker compared to other combloc steel mags
>>
>>31783150
Very! Use ammoseek to find the ammo you seek.
>>
>>31785137
I like the bho's I have a lot. Granted they're original Yugo production, but they still fit differently. One of them you have to really force out when you get it in, so maybe it's an issue inherent to the design and not the manufacturer?

the 5.45 rifles have the same barrel OD as 7.62 while ID is for 5.45, so yeah.

my stock slips out of my shoulder sometimes, so I got a pad, which helps with LOP too

There's nothing I see there that looks like it should definitely interfere off the top of my head, but it is right at the limit where the top of the casing could possibly hit and get bounced back in sometimes. And the optic interfering seems like the only answer that makes sense at this point.
Start the video I linked at about 2:55, and you'll see the ejection. When you see how the vz ejects in slowmo, it should make sense.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PqAk-qianA
Also, try different ammo brands because they can eject very differently. It's possible that a faster or slower bolt motion could help.
For me, golden tiger ejects very soft and gentle, landing right in front of the gun instead of going into orbit like bear. Bear slams the bolt back extremely hard. I almost feel like I could almost go without the deflector with GT.
>>
>>31785951
not him.
Comparing the back end of the dovetail of your side rail and the one on his...his does look too far forward. Yours looks close to the rear of the grip while his is closer to the middle.
That's a shame too because for him to install a rail like yours would require two new holes in his receiver.
cool video btw.

I wish I had his exact optic, that'd make it so much easier to slap it on my gun and see if there's any real difference in where it sits.
A couple holes in the receiver isn't the end of the world though if he changed out. I think you could hide that easily enough. His current rail looks ugly IMO at least, it'd probably be an aesthetic improvement IMO if he made the switch.
>>
>>31786083
It would be an improvement for sure.
It looks like, based on this pic >>31774837 that his rear hole would still be visible if he put on a rail like the one in your pics, but that's not the end of the world.
Also, this pic shows his scope and how far forward it goes. >>31779549
>>
>>31786139
I didn't see that post yet.
He needs more pics, but I swear I might see impact marks from the casings on the upper right picture >>31774837.
That'd explain everything.

So I was at my FLGS earlier today and they had a bunch of the C39V2s in stock. I was tempted but they were selling them at ~850 bucks. I sold my last AK in 2012 and I want to get another one but I dont want to spend that much on a Century Arms made AK that doesn't even have a side rail.

Also, how hard is it to add a side rail?
>>
>>31786259
>Also, how hard is it to add a side rail?

Why bother.
Get this.
It's cheaper than the v2, better, and already has a side rail.

I need help guys

My rear sight keeps getting loose through repeated use. Its like the dimple isnt deep enough to hold the spring in place. It keeps moving forward out of place and makes my rear sight wobble and after like 100 repeated rounds it completely falls off.

Can I buy replacement rear sights where it comes with a new leaf spring? Is there a way to keep the leaf spring in place more efficiently?

You are making yourself criminally liable if you do this

If a gun is found at a crime scene the investigators will follow the serial number from the manufacturer to the wholeseller to the retail store and then to whomever filled out the 4473 on it. The investigators will approach that person for information. He needs to be able to prove he sold that gun and who he sold it to. He's going to point fingers at you. Then you're going to point fingers at whoever you sold it to. Now all three of you are involved in a police investigation all because you wanted to make sure your guns were "unregistered." When you could have simply written up a bill of sale to avoid all of that.

If you really want an "unregistered" gun then you need to buy it privately with no bill of sale from a person who bought the gun from a gun store over 5 years ago. The FFL is no longer required to store copes of the 4473 after 5 years. Although I can't think of any real justification for doing this.
