whoops.

Anyone have experience dealing with Aero Precision customer service? My carry handles front bolt thing just stripped itself out. I really liked the one I got, it felt well made (though the back was a little scuffed up, but whatever). It even has a square forge mark just like my upper. I sent in a ticket online so I guess I'll wait and see if they will exchange it for me. Really was looking forward to it and picked them over the cheap chink knock-offs because I was afraid of this happening.

I only tightened it my hand, and never more than I could undo. Did I mess up or was it a bad part? If Aero's customer service is bad like the one anon said, where can I buy those thumbscrews that go with the detachable carry handles? I've never seen them sold separately.

Stock up on mags and ammo, this election is not going to be kind. Expect to be unable to buy any ammo until next year around this time, no matter who wins. If Hillary wins, which seems likely, expect ammo to be unavailable for AT LEAST another 2-3 years. Mags will be unavailable as well. Stock up on a few repair parts for mags, the ones you can buy today might be the ones you pass down to your grandkids.

>>31760962
>which goes both
pretty much both unfortunately. an argument could be made for buying either first, but try to get both. scrounge, save, and sell what you can to get the cash. also for ammo, buy in bulk. its a larger investment up front but youll save more in cents per round than buying a box or two at a time.
>>
>>31760962
Mags first, you don't need a whole lot, just enough to be content with. I'd go for a target of at least 6 30 rounders, you wouldn't realistically carry more. Maybe 8 total if you're worried. After that, you'll want to invest in ammo. At least 1k rounds, minimum. That'll keep you shooting for a while. If you go brass cased, at least you can reload (another investment, but it'll be easier to buy components than actual rounds). Steel cased is cheaper, but you can't reload. Up to you, but stock up now while the getting's good. You will be kicking yourself if you do nothing in about 2 weeks.

Everybody shoots better with a good trigger. If you'd rather not spend $200 bucks, get a 3.5 lb. JP spring kit and some anti-galling grease at Midwayusa, install the springs, and grease the shit out of everything.
>>
>>31761026
any recommendations for a trigger?
>>
>>31760966
Damn. I mean I think it's stripped, it's the front nut and it tightens down to a point and then just loses the thread and goes loose. The front one can come all the way off, and was like that when it came in the mail. The rear nut seems to be permanently attached, and I can't completely take it off its screw (or it seems to be permanently on there, I've never forced it but it does get tight when you unscrew it past a certain point.)

What's kinda weird to me is if I pull the little bar that clamps it onto the receiver rail off the front screw, and then tighten the bolt all the way down, it holds tightly. So it's like a certain section of the threading on the front nut is stripped off.

It just sucks since I bought it from Aero because I was worried that if I just got a cheap chink one, this very thing would happen.

I'm planning on buying a Del Ton 16" AR Sport tomorrow morning for $550 as babbys first gun .

It looked good and felt nice: I didnt notice any defects, and the price is nice.

Does anyone have any opinions on Del Ton I should know about?

What AR lower should I get? My concern is I think Hillary might win the presidency.

What I'm looking for is essentially the top teir AR lower I can get, price is secondary. If there is some sort of ban I want to possess the best lower I can have.

Not that it needs to be something extravagent, just a typical high quality lower.

most lowers are all the same with the exception of the roll mark. Most differences you will find are; AMBI or standard, 6061 or 7075, Forged or billet.

Buy a full rifle and not just a lower. If hitlery get in you wont find the parts to build that lower up.

If you spend the money on a lightweight pencil barrel, you're obviously sacrifing both money and high volume shooting capability for a lighter rifle. This is entire counteracted by using a heavy ass buttstock. It would be stupid to use a UBR on a 16" pencil barrel. Parts are supposed to work on conjunction with one another, not as a random mismash.

skip bull barrels man, just get a regular profile from a company that specializes in accurate barrels. A shit bull barrel cant touch a well made normal profile.

Yeah they were designed for a blank firing adapter. Suppressors were an afterthought. If you mount a suppressor on an A2 just make sure the MD is mounted with shims and not a crush washer or else you become giddy.

AK and an AR owner here.

My first evil black gun was an AR-180B. While it was amazingly accurate, had great sights, and worked well with 5.56 ammo, it wouldn't function properly on .223

Coupled with its pickiness, unwillingness to shoot steel cases ammo, and the general price of 5.56; I decided 7.62x39 was more economical, and more practical for the likely short range engagement distances of my hometown.

I always rank my guns based on a few criteria.

1: ammo cost/availability if I can't stock up, and if I can't scavenge to resupply, than its not worth having. Since both 7.62 and 5.56 are equally prevelant in the US, 7.62 wins by cost.

2: Spare parts/accessories. AR-15 wins on accessories but since I use no attachments besides a sling it's a useless feature to me. I understand the benefits of attachments but I feel the added weight (no matter how minimal) isn't worth it; not to mention the cost of accessories.

Not all AR-15 parts are compatable either, whereas AK's mostly are. Even non-calibur compatable AK's share at least 40% parts.

All that being said; I would take either gun if I could only have one. While I shoot an AR-15 better at long range; AK's..... Feel good man.

Own both. The AR seems to get more range time though. Mainly because the variety of grips and stocks available allowed me to pick stuff that "fit" me. Picked up the AK just to round out the collection. If you are into guns the top 3 semi autos you should own are AR, AK, and Garand

I own an AK and I'm considering swapping it for an AR. The main reason is weight management. A fully loaded AR weights less than my unloaded AK. Second reason is that I fucked up my back badly and cannot move it as it should. Being prone with an AK is extremely uncomfortable and if I do it in a hurry is extremely painful. The AR has shorter mags and therefore I don't need to arch my back as much. Which means more comfort. Other advantage, the AR is a tad more compact, making it easier to conceal. Finally, with the nazis in Brussels preparing a new gun directive for the whole Schengen-space, it is likely that guns with high capacity mags will only be legal for competition shooters. From what I've read, competition pretty much requires a gun in 5.56x45. 7.62x39 has no chances.

The pros of the AK is that it's built like a tank. Ammo is a tad cheaper. No need to worry about steel-cased ammo. No need to worry about getting the right ammo for the rifle's barrel twist. Cleaning is fast and uncomplicated.

I have many AKs, many ARs, and many SKSs, various mil surp, etc.

AR is by far the superior platform from a practicality point, engineering point, and weight point. If SHTF, my interceptor vest is loaded with AR mag carriers with bandoliers ready to go. AKs are cool, but more of a collector deal imo, I own collecitible AKs with rare expensive mags in period correct bandoliers. That said my AKs all cost way more than my ARs san optics.

Neither will do you wrong, but there is no better rifle than the AR that an American can buy. If AKs were so great, we'd make them ourselves.

>>
>>31762564
Yes, that is normal. Some slop between the upper and lower is inevitable, along with a stock that i sloppy unless you have a fixed stock or a Magpul type with a lock. ARs are not tight like most guns.
>>
>>31762568
And I can use a simply $50 harbor freight press bend to make a lower our of a shovel. Do you have a CNC machine? Don't be so naive. You could make either from scratch. As I said the AR is more "american consumer cuz laws" build friendly.
>>
>>31762564
yeah thats common, if you were to look around you should be able to find uppers that fit your lower better or vice versa. its not a matter of brands though really, its kinda random
>>
For dogs and cats, acetaminophen (Tylenol) is toxic (poisonous or deadly)! Relatively small doses (a single pill or even a small piece of a pill) can be toxic or deadly to any animal species (cats, dogs, ferrets, birds, pigs, primates, and many others.

Its the rifling that is the real problem. From a realistic standpoint you are wrong. Form an american consumer cuz laws, yes the AR is easier if you cant do a spot weld.
>>
>>31762635

Good idea or no? I was a lot more for it until I saw MilSurpDude's Undermeme shit and then I started thinking it might make me look stupid too.
>>
>>31762645
As I said. Someone else made the lower and all the hard to make parts to last forever so tards like you can fix them simply. An AK is far, far easier to produce in the 3rd world and the US before CNC machining. The guide rails are stamped steel spot welded on there man. Come on. I'm not saying you are wrong, but without computers, you'd never build an AR. You'd build an AK because it would be far more practical and cost effective.
>>31762651
Don't have kids. Tie your tubes.
>>31762662
AK is fucking outdated garbage compared to an A1 AR. Point is the AK is easier to manufacture. The AR is easier for the american consumer to ""build". Thanks to the advent of CNC machining the old AK is now more expensive to make than the AR. 30-40 years ago it was not that way, and in third world countries it remains the same.

AK is outdated collector item. Just as the SKS is. But if nuclear war happens, we'll be building AKs before ARs which require forging and complex machining processes.
>>
>>31762675

>>
>>31762678

>>
>>31762678

>>
>>31762678
Have you been drinking? Serious question, not trying to be mean. Your answer involved some claim about computers just now and you've been mentioned other countries a few times like everyone has a 10 ton press and a proper welder just on the other side of the border. All because you couldn't handle me saying the AR is easier to gunsmith. It is. When something breaks, you take a punch and hammer, tap it out, and put a new one in. No shitty rivets. No cracking welds. No pressing the barrel in. You're in denial.
>>
>>31762688
I'd be building an AK before you'd build an AR. That's the whole point senpai. One is made out of stamped sheet metal and welds, while the other is complex forgings and machining. There is a reason one was introduced in 1946 in Russia while the other came about in the first world USA in the late 1960's.
>>31762692
>implying russia isn't still 2nd world
Just as the US holds on to our dear M16 they hold on to their AK74 for muh heritage.

Both work, nothing wrong with that. Decades ago the AK was cheaper to make, now with CNC the AR is cheaper to make. The biggest firearm market on earth (commercial US) proves this.
>>31762700
My point was for the american consumer the choice is easy. For mass proliferation, that depends on hardware. Also a press is far cheaper, and not electronic, versus CNC machines. I know 10 tons sounds crazy, but you can do it buy hand thanks to the magic of hydraulics.
>>
>>31762717
AK74 is literally a newer design than M16.

>The biggest firearm market on earth (commercial US) proves this.
Commercial US is hugely favoring the AK though.
>>
>>31762717
I have never needed a CNC machine to gunsmith an AR. You're arguing some point that's so far off-base that I hope you're drunk.
>>
What companies make quality AR parts that aren't owned by fundie or fringe whack-jobs?
>>
>>31762729
>AK74 is literally a newer design than M16.
Which matters zero. It's the same 1940's gun in a different caliber.
>Commercial US is hugely favoring the AK though.
And US made AK vs AR prices prove which is cheaper to mass produce with modern computer controlled technology.
>>31762731
You can make an AK lower out of a sheet metal flat, a $50 press, and spot weld two guide rails on.

Can you make an AR lower?

No. You don't have a forge nor dies or access to a CNC machine nor the tools or knowledge to run them. Thats my point. One is 1940s tech, one is 1970s (and still modern) tech.

That is all.
>>31762745
Avoid Ruger and Troy.
>>
>>31762747

Not even an ARfaggot and i dont post here ever, but you won't be making a lot of shit when your magical supply for post-apocalyptic AK parts kits dries up. There's complex manufacturing way beyond what you can do besides the easiest part, the sheet metal receiver.
>>
>>31762745
Aero Precision. Mega. BCM. Magpul. The list goes on. Honestly, so many people make AR parts now it's probably easier to make a mockup in Gunstruction and then go look up the companies afterwards to see if they meet your requirements.

>>31762729
Commercial US is still very AR-oriented. If you're talking about the recent spike in demand for new AKs and parts for them, it's because damn near everyone who wanted an AR bought one in 2013 already, whereas AK rifles and parts never jumped up to meet get same demand. Now people are buying the counterparts to their ARs to take advantage of cheap ammo, and with that has come an AK market renaissance of sorts.
>>
>>31762745

If you can rephrase your question without the stupid fucking buzzwords maybe I'll have an answer but until then I have NO idea what a fundie or a fringe whack-job are, sorry

I can CNC a billet lower as everyone else does for an AR. I can bend sheet metal and spot weld for an AK. I can mill, lathe, and CNC, small parts for both guns as we've done since the late 1800's.

It's rifling which is hard. Besides that its cost. In a first world country, an AR is cheaper cuz computers. In Pakistan, they build AKs by hand.

If you think an AK has complex machining, just look at your fucking AR bolt and tell me how it was made. Or how about your bolt in your 1989 designed Mosin-Nagant bud.
