I got a c39v2, I want some plum furniture and a good brake, any suggestions?
>>
>>31571836
serious question
why isn't there heavy ammo in 5.45 like there is for 5.56?
is it just because the lack of support for 5.45 in the us and most of the western world?

I'll have a black polymer sidefolder and three more true black Izhmash mags coming in hopefully tomorrow, maybe Friday. I'm going back to all black polymer and putting plum and triangle in the closet with the rest of my AK stuff.

I think all black with the Obzor will look really slick; Obzor with a triangle stock just doesn't look correct. Plum and triangle is cool too and I still love it, I just want something different after two years of having plum on the rifle.
>>
>>31571886
Because 5.45 doesn't really need it. 5.56 needs certain weights with certain barrel lengths in order to fragment. 5.45 isn't nearly as dependent on barrel length as 5.56 is and because of that there isn't really much of a need to have heavier or lighter bullets.
>>
>>31571892
whats wrong with it?

is there just no interest in long range in the 5.45 world?

I was really just picking on you. It's a milled receiver so finding furniture to fit it can be hard. You can buy standard AK furniture and sand it down to fit.

>>31571990
Well honestly I've had it on gunbroker/armslist to sell it
I'd really like a DDI or arsenal
I'd like something like >>31571926

>>
>>31572003
fine, i'll leave
>>
>>31571990
WRONG
C39v2 uses stamped furniture
>>
>>31571979
I don't think there's any such thing as an off the shelf 5.45 AK that can consistently shoot 5 shot 1MOA groups at 100 yards. The AR is much better suited to accurazing and that's probably why it attracts more of the long range crowd. You also have to remember that 5.45 is a much newer cartridge to the US market. 15 years ago very few people even shot 5.45.
>>
>>31571974
7N24 is armor piercing ammo which is heavier because of what it's made from. Of course armor piercing ammo is going to be heavier. It isn't the same as 5.56 which needs to be heavier or lighter in order to perform properly out of different barrel lengths.

>>31571979
>is there just no interest in long range in the 5.45 world?
Not really, it's a standard military caliber. If they want long range that's what an SVD or SV98 is for. It's plenty accurate for it's role inside of 500 meters or so. I'm not aware of any guns in 5.45 designed to specifically be accurate other than East German SSG82s. There's no real need for a super accurate long range gun in 5.45 because there are other guns easily available that do the job better.
>>
>>31572017
I'm all for keeping it and buying another gun, IF you can afford it. Even if that C39 sits in the back of your safe and you never shoot it, keep it. You never know when/if you might need or want it.

>>31572039
really? I was just going by the fact that it's milled and milled is usually different than stamped for where the stock goes in.
>>
>>31572066
v1 used milled furniture, but, because the C39v2 makes no attempt to replicate any particular military AK model, they decided to go with stamped style furniture

next time don't speak on things you have no knowledge of
>>
>>31572100
Blow it out your ass fuckface. I'll say whatever the fuck I want.
>>
>>31572066
Yeah, maybe I'll just keep it and put some stuff on it
I have an AR so I didn't think I would want to have an AK, I really just got it on the fly and I really like the aftermarket for the AKs more because it feels more like milsurp and it has that extra cool factor
Thinking about trading my AR for a nice AK now, how are the polytechs?

Throw a T2 and a good set of irons in and you still might have to throw in cash or ammo to make a deal for a good polytech.
>>
>>31572242

there not unreliable, but they DO have the potential for feeding issues vs the 7.62, same goes for 5.45 due to the taper.

>>31572278
I would recommend that you go for a late production WASR (My first). It would be a good AK to start out on and learn from, rather than going for something collectable like a polytech and accidentally dicking it up. Stay away from IO. Don't rush out and impulse buy, research your options and ask questions. Don't be the Anon who comes on /akg/ posting pics of his new IO that he got on sale for $800.
>>
>>31572358
Any gun has potential for feeding issues. Unless you get a piece of shit, 5.56 AKs aren't going to have any more issues than other AKs.
>>
>>31572278

I don't think I'd ever trade away a SR-15 for a Polytech simply because I'd buy the SR-15 to shoot and enjoy, while I'd buy the Poly to take pictures of before putting it in the back of the safe until I sell it for even more absurd amounts of money.
>>
>>31572391

5.56 ad's just have MORE potential for magazine and feeding problems then 7.62 guns, same goes for 5.45, 7.62 mags can rock back and forth and side to side pretty heavily and feed fine, 5.45 and 5.56 the angle of feeding needs to be more precise due to the cartridge taper.

so yes, they are more "Unreliable" than 7.62
>>
>>31572356
I know, that's why I said some cash lmao
>>31572388
I got a c39v2
I hear the interals are pretty weak and I see a lot of people have replaced the bolt/piston with surplus parts
>>
I'm legitimately considering selling my FAL to fund another 5.45 AK (either another SLR or an SGL maybe for the right price). I like my FAL and all but I just don't shoot it, and I like 74s and 5.45 better in every way.
>>
>>31572506
Don't do it. You'll regret it. Keep the FAL and go ahead and buy that other AK.
>>
>>31572429
WASR AKs are made of surplus parts, I have yet to have any trouble with mine. Ive only had time to get about 1000rnds through it, but there has only been one failure, and it was because of a bent up magazine I was using. If you really want a polytech, go for it. They aren't getting any more common, I just bought a Norinco Mak-90, the quality of the Chinese AKs are very nice. I would recommend that if you really want a Chinese AK, its better to get one now then to wait.
>>
>>31572540
>WASR AKs are made of surplus parts
No they're not
>>
>>31572540
WASRs are not currently made with surplus parts and haven't been for years

Mine is unconverted currently, I will most likely convert it later down the road when I have the resources to. I would like to get another so that I have one to convert, and the other to leave the way it was imported.

You could probably buy the civilian version of the SV98 right now if you had the money. I think they usually go for like $8000. PKMs are obtainable as well.
>>
>>31573084
Yeah they're both available for around $10k give or take but that's just too much for me. If I ever decided to shell out that much on a single gun (never) I'd rather just go full NFA for a MAC 10 with a Lage upper for only a few thousand more

It's just too much money for me. Hell I almost bought a SCAR 17 about a year ago and even that thing at $3500 or so was still too much for me to justifiably spend on a single gun and that is considerably cheaper than either of the other two.

The pistol grip is just stuck on there for the picture. They had a slide fire stock on there so it didn't have a grip screw or T nut.
I ordered some but they don't come in till Monday though so I won't be able to shoot it this weekend unless I want to put that slide fire back on.

Please hope for a speedy recovery.

That puzzle piece rear trunnion thing they're doing seems kind of neat. If it works properly it should make it really easy to swap between fixed, sidefolding, and underfolding stocks, and if that's the case I think it's really cool. I hope it actually works the way they say it does and locks it up solidly, but I'll believe it when I see it after they release different models.

Yeah I agree but we don't get much snow here, it's too wet and it just turns to slush. We're lucky if we get one full day of constant snow a year. It seems like every other year or so we get some really good snow days, but mostly it's just rain and wind 75% of they year which I also love

It's just funny because we have a huge influx of Californians who move up here and then complain about it not being sunny and warm like California (then they vote our rights into their graves and turn Washington into California 2.0)

It's good enough that I can be proud of it and enjoy it but not so perfect that I'm afraid to shoot it. I love the deep red Tula color. It really really makes me regret not getting a hand select Tula AKM kit to match when they were available. Now they're like $1800.

Not the guy you're responding to but thanks for providing that. I've been searching off and on quite a bit for that info since it was revealed a few threads back that DDI was doing QC. I'm cool with DDI ak's so that makes me feel pretty good about PSA.

Well this is interesting

Certainly shuts up the PROOFS claim

>>31580984

So DDI is basically just helping PSA get started and not actually doing the building or QC? Either way, both make pretty solid AKs.
>>
>>31581059
i was wondering about that too. PSA could have been a bit more clear on that explanation, but I'm OK with it as is.

No I already have a set of plum furniture laying around and dont have amazon prime anyway.

It doesn't show that they make and QC every PSA rifle, only that they helped them in the process, logistically there's no way DDI could have QC'd every PSA rifle.

I would image the both have a best interest in keeping order volumn high enough from whoever does their forging a to be economical.

Perhaps PSA had the capital, DDI had some technical experience from WW. I'm not a businessman but it makes sense
