Welp.
I sent the seller an email to see if they'd be willing to just ship me a new rail plate. I figure that would be the quickest way to get a working mount. If not, I guess I'll return it and wait for that one to be available.

No kidding. I know I admitted to being overly stingy earlier, but $180 for what I would need is a bit more than I hoped to spend for a rail.

I don't understand people asking personal preference questions like that. Do/use whichever one YOU like.
I could understand asking if product A is better or worse than product B because someone on here might have experience with both, but what you're asking can really only be answered by you.

So I noticed that a few websites sell these muzzle devices for Saiga 12s that are a full or modified choke while also still being able to put on another muzzle device like a muzzle brake.

So theoretically, what would happen if I bought like 10 of them and stacked them together on the barrel?

Would I get a super tight pattern? Would the gun 'splode? Or would I just be some retard with a 40 inch barrel Saiga?

If I plan on converting a 5.45 Vepr into a normal 74, what parts should I replace to keep it 922r compliant? Any recommendations as to what specific parts to use?
>>
>>31560623
Compliancy is a meme perpetuated by manufacturers of US parts to jew you into buying their inferior products. It's only relevant to importers and manufacturers. Don't worry about it and don't mention it. I'm hoping people will eventually forget about it so it can fade into irrelevancy.

Copy and paste from the other thread: Question for AK fanbois, is a WASR 10 worth it to get and spend the rest on ammo or are they really as shit as everyone makes them out to be?
>>
>>31560743
A brand new, WASR-10 is a great starter AK if you don't mind the average as fuck furniture. Lots of shit you can do to personalize them, run all mags fine, and pretty cheap all things considered, current panic buying will probably lead to jacked up prices, but if you can find one and want to get into AKs I definitely recommend picking it up as long as it isn't going far over the $700 mark.

I've got a little more than a dozen black (10) mags. Should I sell some to fund more true black Izhmash mags? I've only got four true blacks, but I don't know if the hassle of selling mags only to buy more mags that are just as good and the same color but have a different country of origin and different markings (see: autism) would be worth it.

I could always just buy more but that costs money I shouldn't be spending

refurb? spring got replaced, so its fresh unlike its 30-40 year old brethren?
>>
>>31563492
a few of my guys would basically take all of the springs and bundle them up and tape them together, 50+ mag springs all bundled up, so hopelessly tangled. I never, ever got the hang of it. Something about how the springs tangled together just boggled my mind and I would sit there spending 10+ minutes on just two springs tangled together and fuck with them until I made them MORE tangled. I would just fuck with them until they came apart.

>>31563579
Ask the guys who used them, people get dented surplus steel mags all the time. And when they're dented the follower gets stuck and it doesn't feed reliably.
>>
>>31563598
I think this guy is right, if you count the coils they're the same. Also I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure the 45 rounders have the same length spring as the 30.

Why
>>
>>31563875
Mine was so tight it wouldn't swing freely, I could open it halfway and it would just stay there no matter what angle I held it at.

Lots of surplus parts are coming into the US now. I would bet that they just had some stocks that had been used hard and gotten loose. Also Tula is not known for their manufacturing consistency.

Thanks for the input! I'm looking around for parts now that my UR is on the way and I've got it set in my head that I want a triangle stock with a ribbed buttplate.

I'm also seeing that the nicer vented handguard sets get snatched up very quickly compared to nonvented.

It's a guessing game at this point, with the election so close.
Some are hedging their bets and getting "assault weapons" before shrilliary can get something shoehorned in.

But if Trump get in and things relax it'll be shown to be a bad time to have overpayed for a WASR or similar rifle.

A fixed stock should always be your first AK, but I'm sure an NPAP DF will serve you well.

When I made fakelite mags I scratched the polymer with sandpaper and nails and then brushed on wood stain in uneven swirl patters. Top it off with some brush on poly in the swirl patterns.

I think if you added the green or whatever on top of the wood stain and then polyed it up it would look convincing.
>>
>>31565231
>i'll be spending an extra 100 for some decent furniture
Only if you plan on putting Russian furniture on it.
You can get more a couple non Russian sets for less than $100
>Or until recently at least, the market seems a little barren currently.

I'm sure, as long as you inspect it before you accept it, that the NPAP DF will be more than acceptable.

>As long as you accept that it requires snowflake parts requirements, of course.
>>
>>31565249
was planning on putting some balkan surplus wood on it anyways, so snowflake parts arent a big deal
>>
>>31565241
Meh, why do all that, when I can just paint an actual bakelite and not have to fuck with trying to make a fake swirl pattern?
Plus the arsenal molds make it that much more "convincing".

But give it a shot, it's not like you can't strip paint.
>>
>>31565256
I'd say go for it then.

Honestly, I never expected you to do that. Part of buying the low cost mags that were described as having a bit of rust on them, was the fact that I would have to clean them up and probably shoot a coat of paint on the floor plate.

I think he's got 5.45 because the 7.62 hasn't gone out of stock in ages. I have several stacks of crates full of the shit and literally zero rounds of range ammo because of the election. I was going to buy a few more rifles but I get the feeling I'm going to need ammo more in the coming years, so less shooting and more stacking.

They were the 5th or 6th variation if some sources I've read are to be believed

first came the grey, beige, white and brown magazines, then the experimental green in 2 shades both with and without lanyard loop.
The greens did not pass their tests, and ultimately not accepted for use.
Finally the black ones that were issued.

Even with aluminum follower and floorplate the Valmet is still the lightest mag, it's not even close.

The aluminum floorplate wouldn't fit without bending so I weighed them seperately.
There was an 8g difference.
But the bakelite was still well over 200g, even with aluminum guts.
I believe the aluminum internals overall only made an 11g difference.

I might be able to get a buddy buy a deact and hack it up to send back important parts, but he wasn't sure about sending the bolt or front trunnion. Obviously the barrel and receiver are out of the question.

I'm not really worried about US customs seizing it, just the Russians

69 is the heaviest I've seen, I don't think I've ever seen a 70+ grain 5.45. Not nearly as many bullet options with 5.45 or 7.62x39 as there is with 5.56.

It's definitely not allowed by Russia or the United States. Also if it's a Russian deact then the bolt and front trunnion should be toast anyways. People do it pretty frequently without problems though. Just label the package as lawn mower parts or something.

>>31571848

And the demand for 5.56 in combination with the amount of companies that manufacture it lead to more variety. 5.45 doesn't have nearly the demand nor does it have a wide variety of manufacturers and thus, fewer options.
>>
>>31571863
Cool, next question is who would be able to do a Saiga 9 clone from parts that were totally imported before the sanctions, or would it even be doable?
>>
>>31571904
Oh, if it's a Saiga 9, you'll probably want the front trunnion, if not the bolt as well. The front trunnion on those doesn't have locking lugs because it's a straight blowback, so I believe it's still usable. You'll want to talk to Zasta about that because he is doing the same thing with a Bizon. As for the barrel, it will have to be a custom fab, so you'll want the guy to take measurements of that, probably. The receiver is tricky, because it's a few cm shorter than a regular AK receiver, again Zasta can tell you how to manage that because he already had his receiver ready. The bolt is tricky as well because it will also have to be a custom fab, possibly welded together from existing parts. The bolt on the deact will be toast but it may still be wise to get measurements. Luckily straight blowback guns are pretty simple, it's just getting it to jive with your receiver and trunnion. It's definitely doable but you'll want a builder not scared to do custom fab, I bet turbothis would take it on.

Also it was illegal before the sanctions as well so don't look to that as your excuse

>Also it was illegal before the sanctions as well so don't look to that as your excuse
Oh well, I'm guessing that once it's made (if ever), customs likely won't give a fuck.

I'll try to hit Zasta up about it in the next thread that he shows up.

> turbothis
He was my first thought, the second was Definitive Arms since they already make a 9mm, though I'm not sure they'd take on the project.
Another thought was kalashnicohn, since they've already done one, but their other projects kind of turn me off of them due to their lack of attention to detail.
