That's probably because they're short range bullet hoses that work really well for car carry and urban combat. Cyberpunk tends to blend in to generic near-term scifi outside of a city setting.

Some good niggerish there.
thanks for the words of support.
Although I can use some knowledge if anybody can bother to answer. The main character is using two .45 handguns, should I switch the calibers to 10mm? (although .45 is more common in the lore)
Then there's the question of - My character uses a Remington 1858 for the 'handcannon' trope, good idea or just autistic as fuck? Black powder is actually pretty common since it's easy to make, and in the place where the lore takes place bullets are fairly pricy.

Pic kind of related, main character is kind of a cowboy.

That is kind of the big lie in those dystopian cyperpunk universes. Everyone wants to be the anti-corp rebel and stick it to the man, but in a real world situation, living like a refugee would be fairly unpopular compared to the warm bosom of stable, mid-level corporate life.

And yeah, in those universes, there are always hired corporate guns with killer gear.
Wife, two kids, nice center-level condo in the downtown arcology, shoot at corporate saboteurs from 9-5, punch out, go home, drink a beer, watch some trideo.

You don't understand sci-fi.

It's "high tech, low life" in the sense that technology has brought upon social strife and horrible life conditions for most of society. The suppression of freedoms, discrimination, violence, squalor and misery are rampant.

A cop would have the same issues as today except he'd deal with extreme levels of corruption and violence, imagine the crack epidemic but in South Africa-levels of chimp outs while ISIS is also running around the Tokyo-sized urban hell.

Oh, I get it, I'm just saying that applied to reality, people will still seek comforts and say "fuck it" to the moral problems of embracing whatever is necessary to get them. The corporate dream and all that.

One could argue that we already kind of live in a cyberpunkish dystopia, if a bit more well-behaved than those in fiction. I mean, homeless people have more tech in their pockets now than millionaires did 40 years ago. That's fairly high tech, low life, if lacking the aesthetic.
I love that cyberpunk look.
I even have a couple cyberpunky guns.

It should be noted that "high tech, low life" refers specifically to Gibsonian cyberpunk and even then Gibson's cyberpunk works focused almost exclusively on low-lifes and didn't necessarily provide a complete picture of the world. One of his short stories heavily features what would be middle or working class people leading a more or less normal existence in a cyberpunk world.
>>
>>31513526
The hard part about "zombg so cyberpunk" food tropes is that barring the entire fucking midwest getting irretrievably poisoned the US is always going to have some of the best, cheapest food in the world. If yields drop we just restrict exports and let brown people overseas die.
>>
>>31514269
Some settings try to explain that away, but yeah.

More "realistic" cyberpunk would be about a profusion of crazy foreign brands (possibly with dodgy health standards) in low-end markets, while Neo-Whole Foods is sparkling fresh organic everything.
>>
>>31514315
>More "realistic" cyberpunk would be about a profusion of crazy foreign brands (possibly with dodgy health standards) in low-end markets
I liked Blade Runner's take on that best - basically just the introduction of Japanese food stalls and roadside restaurants to the pedestrian layers of the city. It's weird and foreign without claiming "HA HA HA FUCK YOU NO MORE FARMLAND FOREVER" on camera.
>>
>>31512355
Got to see him live once, he's really amazing, just chainsmokes the whole set too.
>>
>>31514315
You're likely right.

I imagine, somewhat similar to now, the haves will dine on free-range, grass-fed, hormone-free meats and organic vegetables, at an exorbitant cost.

The have-nots will eat dubious crap made of mostly filler imported from China where it's made in factories in which people periodically commit suicide by hurling themselves into the meat grinder, which is not stopped because of this.

If we're talking corporate extraterritoriality, then yeah, standards are gonna be nuts, and if we're talking vast increases in foreign culture being added to the domestic melting pot, then a lot of weird new food trends are going to come up.

>It was the music that always put me on edge.

>The crowd I could handle; that jostling ebb and flow of bodies packed too tightly together, the melange of scents: ammonia and ozone, sweat and synthleather, cheap rice alcohol and barrel-cooked Blue Glass...I could ignore those, put them out of my mind for a time. But it was the choppy, post-neu-technocrunch beat piping over the speakers at top decibel that always made my hackles rise. The squeal of a dying man's brainwaves washed into pure bioelectric noise, the staccato grumble of radio signals from every Chiangzhi satellite in orbit over a 24-hour period compressed down into a 4 minute loop, a laser mic recording of a snake digesting a live mouse, all overlaid with lyrics distorted and filtered until all you could hear was the frequencies at the very edge of your hearing.
>>
>Maybe I was simply lacking all the specific implants and plugs necessary to truly 'appreciate' the preferred genre of the Jacker subcults, or maybe the whole point of it all really was to aggo the listener. Implanted or not, the mob had been stirred into a howling frenzy as they watched the underground's latest bloodsport. I turned my gaze up towards a mishmashed torus of display screens projecting the battle to the incensed crowd, trying to make sense of what I was seeing. Hundreds of gold and crimson lines slashed back and forth across the screens in a shifting halo of light, colliding, recoiling, fighting for position like dogfighting Stiletto drones. Every now and again one of those strands would suddenly crumple and disintegrate back to its source, and the crowd would roar its excitement.

>I peered down into the recessed 'arena' beneath the shimmering torus, studying the two Jackers that were plugged into their chairs, cables and likes snaking from their skulls and necks. IV feeds drained into their arms, pumping in whatever drug cocktail was needed for them to operate at speeds hundreds of times faster than the human brain was supposed to. Their eyes were closed, but I could see them twitch and grimace in response to some subconscious stimuli.

I always liked when old ass guns appear in cyberpunk settings. Like how in the beginning of Neuromancer he has to rent some old ass gook pistol from a bar for a few hours, or all the guns from Akira being cold war designs (except the laser cannons)

Pic related always gave me a cyberpunk vibe as it would fit quite nicely in a trenchcoat. If only they made a 10mm version :^3

Cheapest mainframe is 80k, last I checked (I think it was for the BC13), and I think the cheapest POWER server was 20k, I'm not too sure.

That isn't the only hardware we sell, though. We also sell tape drives, and maybe a few other things. Just not computers. x86 computers, anyways. We sold that shit off to Lelnovo, and they can go die in a fucking hole.

Also, yeah, IBM producing firearms again would be badass. If anyone should produce AR-18s and AR-16s, it'd be IBM.

I'd also love to get my hands on a couple of old firearms mad by IBM.

Watson also donated some of their profits (I think 1%) to victims of the war or something, because they built the firearms that were used in it and I guess he was guilty.

No they're not, like that guy in the pick doesn't even look punk he's wearing two different nationalities flags. Although I like a lot of the electronics even a cyberpunk character in most stories or games wouldn't be able to figure out how to make half that stuff work even with a dice roll.

The masses in cyberpunk are usually considered fudds for the most part.

Please classify what you believe a "fudd" is.

I've always accepted the word to mean a person who does not believe firearms have purpose outside of hunting or other banal conventional use, and to whom non-traditional aspects of arms(rails, foregrips, etc) are regarded with disrespect.

I was creeped out at first too, but believe me it goes pretty damn well if you give it a chance to surprise you.
I'm both like fantasy and cyberpunk, and I was charmed by the games, they're really dope. If the devs would do a 3D game they would sell millions.
The world of shadowrun is very logical, very believable, very well thought out, gives room for plenty of stories and is absolutely sweet to blend in, especially as a table top RPG. The video games are just as good and very pleasant. Good stories, good chars, good narrative, it's just cool. If you like fallout, baldur's gates, deus ex, x-com, you will probably like this too.
Give it a try

Setting is in asia (Japan), as mentioned early cyberpunk years so industry is still kicking it. Bullets are scarce and so are guns due to the japanese being cucked before the 'habbening' as in real life. So 7.62 NATO and 5.56 are pretty common rounds due to JSDF (currently named 'JDF', as I couldn't be bothered to name them diffrently), having a lot in stock and not having a reason to change yet. .45-70 I would definetly use if the main character just didin't swap out for an M14 with more common caliber and a 20 round magazine. Cost effective.
>>31519648
Would bother if it was cost-effective, .357's are less common than .45's, it's like the third tier of ammo availability with 9's being second, and .44 the fourth in terms of pistol calibers.

Fyi, still looking for suggestions if this shit is autistic. I used sense rather than actual research for the most part.

The real thing about Japanese cities' cleanliness isn't about cultural homogeneity, it's about labor.

They have 127 million people on a tiny island. They have to resort to fairly useless jobs to employ people, including but not limited to overt cleaning.

Good point, but India is a third world shithole and that's an entirely different topic altogether.

If we had another 1st world country the size of the Japan with >100 mil pop, it would be clean as fuck, among other differences, mainly in how many menial jobs there would be.

For example, in Japan, when there's a small construction zone on the road, you have multiple people routing traffic, warning pedestrians, etc. Basically just people standing around in uniform. Anywhere else in the world (as far as I've seen) a similar worksite would only warrant a couple of traffic cones. You don't really comprehend this kind of difference before you have visited Japan. They have too many people in a post-industrial society to employ them gainfully, so there are lots of menial jobs like street cleaners.
>>
>>31528483
>For example, in Japan, when there's a small construction zone on the road, you have multiple people routing traffic, warning pedestrians, etc. Basically just people standing around in uniform.
We do that here in Canuckland too.
At least in Vancouver, whenever there's a construction site or roadworks, there's usually a couple dudes rerouting traffic with a stop/go sign.
>>
>>31528483
Active roadwork sites that interfere with traffic are required by law to have someone directing cars, at least in Canada.
That's probably true of every first world country.

I specifically meant small worksites where a simple barrier or traffic cones would suffice, e.g. one open manhole cover and nothing else. Nobody but the Japanese hire multiple people to stand around in places like that. And it's just one example. They seem to have lots of similarly menial public sector jobs.

Well I asked about the .45-70 because you said they can manufacture black powder easily. The thing about black and smokeless powder is basically all chemistry but the musket or minneballs or whatever bullets they are going to use in it are as easy to cast as any other bullet you just pour hot lead into a cast, the actual casings for bullets would be harder to make so I can see why that round would be a little more scarce but if you can make chemical concoctions of propellent it would blow my mind if you can't figure out how to stretch and cut down brass into casings. Primers on the other hand I don't know a lot about other than the main ingredients name and nothing about manufacture, been meaning to look into it more because I been curious about non lead primers and bullets for plinking so the only way it would be cost effective for me to personally do is diy.

If this is set in the far future, in my opinion most common pistol rounds would probably be 9mm bullets of various calibers, 9x19 isn't going anywhere pretty much ever, .40s&w is nearly better in every way and it's being rejected because it wears weapons down slightly faster. 10mm acp is going to go away because it's already been rejected there's no way it's going to magically catch on in a few decades and then start getting huge stock piles churned out but since it's seen as different enough from 9mm because that .500th's of a mm of extra diameter and stronger powder charge if hunters pick it up over .45acp it might not go completely extinct. In that case .40 might stick around as more popular than .45
.45's are going away people are entrenched with double stack polymer 9mm's as being sufficient .45's are going to dry up compared to that, honestly .357's have a better chance of sticking around and being more plentiful because it's like .02 diameter away from 9x19 bullets and being able to use .38's for target shooting

Altered Carbon by Richard K Morgan is one to look into once you exhaust Gibson and Stephenson
>>
>>31529669
with it having a second smaller caliber that's cheaper to build for target shooting it's only going to last as long as the older pistols for it dry up and people move on to 9mm as a primary.

So in terms of pistol bullets I think you're mostly just going to have 9x19mm as most common, 10mm and 40 are going to replace 357 and 38 in terms of what they do. 45 really probably wont be around anymore. 44 might stick but it's doubtful since it's just a niche hobby kind of thing and is probably also going extinct.
Rifle rounds I really think it depends on how long milsurp sticks around like WWII stuff will probably get destroyed and those calibers will go away pretty much depends on what's left to hunt on how big of calibers will stick outside nato standard. Maybe a few meme 'sniper' rounds that would be corporation specific I doubt they would want compatibility with other corporate stuff in the event that they got raided by a hostile take over or smash and grab job that didn't involve a lot of espionage bullets really will only get made big enough to be deemed sufficient for a human such as intermediate rounds rather than something that could easily take down an elk .

Prepare to ignore whole chunks of rules, though. There are a ton of autistic rules that need removal or massive simplification, but they're for shit like swimming long distances or trying to carry a motorcycle on your back or grenades in confined spaces. Other than that, have fun.

Schway is future slang from the Batman Beyond cartoon, which is a pretty great cyberpunk take on Batman.

It's not really slang, it's a rough 'murikan pronunciation of 帅 (Shuài).

Too close to be a coincidence. I assume this batman cartoon has some chinese stuff, yes?

Nice, thanks for all the info. In the lore WW2 weapons are there, for the taking of semi-poorfags. Imported from Russia, taken through traders to Japan from Korea/China. All ex-black market, now perfectly legal for a time. A thing like 'gun laws' in the lore Japan is pretty much limited to explosives, you can literally pickup a set of body armor at a random shop or buy a full auto Mac-10 (homemade, let's not forget about cucked laws before habbening) from a first hand dealer, everything being not regulated by anybody. The police force has enough trouble as it is with crime going rampant, and a new superdrug going into the market. 'Nanodrugs', once more not a great name but fits the description. Averge term drug combining the positive effects of weed, coke and heroin. Extremly addictive and hard to detect after 24 hours as the nanomachines dissolve after this perioid of time.
But on the other hand, I did expect that after imports dry out people will start focusing on producing locally, some weapons are manufactured already but those are in use exclusively for the police force, doesn't mean that thugs don't get their hands on them either though.

There is some Chinese background stuff, but nothing direct. And in the context of the series schway is a slang term in a linguistic sense.
