Does anyone else here shoot exclusively with irons?

I do. Not because I can't afford optics but because I just like forcing myself to train harder.

I qual'd expert with irons in the military, so I guess that's where the iron fetish started for me.
>>
>>31492558
When I was tight on money, I was very happy to sell my Aimpoint and have my irons. I grow so much in love with them that sometimes now, I just put the red dot aside and shoot with the irons for fun.

Rear QD pockets set deep enough in rail my sling bottomed out against my heavy-profile barrel without locking in, so they were unusable.

Front QD sockets precluded me from mounting my offset scout mount as far forward as I wanted to.

They wanted me to glue the rail to the barrel nut.

One of the clamp screws twisted off at ~20 in-lbs of torque even though the instructions said to torque to 30 in-lbs, they sent a replacement rail overnight but faith=shaken.

You're right, it probably won't make or break it, but I have pretty damn good balance with the rail that's on it and really don't wanna fuck that up (original pic related, it's balanced on a BEV block at the front lip of the magwell)

I don't want a URX or Geissele mk4/mk8, they're fat. I've been thinking about the Ion Lite 12.5" Will look at 2A.

Nothing, these days, besides being really heavy and expensive.
Oh, and the solar panel can't power the optic unless there's a working battery in place, which is kind of gay but not technically worse than other reddots that don't work without a battery (practically all of them).

first thing i did was put the SRS on my rifle with the m600, shut off all the lights and turn on the SF about 6 feet from a white wall, no wash out with reticle brightness on medium setting.

took it to the range the other day, no wash out.

there is a bit of glare but less than the MRO had and nothing that cant be ignored or fixed with a kill flash.

if you want a bigger FOV you're going to add weight.

i know its not an optic for everyone but the SRS butthurt is pretty amusing.

>how do they feel?
They are nice. Not like sticky Hogue rubber garbage but not hard and slippery like composite. Somewhere in between. They do protrude into the handguard quite deep though, I had to trim the tabs to fit over the gas block.

Also, because of the type of anodizing and surface treatment KAC uses, the friction the Strike panels provide is just about the same as the naked URX4 handguard without them. For that reason, I'm not sure I'll keep them on.

>>31493325
I'm experimenting with it again. TA33 came with the RMR and I took it off for a long time. I'm trying to remind myself why I removed it in the first place. The 16" high cheek weld is bretty shit.

And nah, I have an X300 Ultra already, I just don't leave it on the rifle. Pic.

>>31493337
I have a gap too. Rail gaps on a Z axis never bothered me, but the rail not being EXACTLY aligned on an Y and X axis bug the shit out of me. Luckily for my assburgers, URX4 is perfectly made and aligns nanometrically in that regard. URX4anon's rail has an abnormally thin gap, don't use that as a metric.

Well you can't mount anything at 1:30 or 10:30 anyway because the top rail blocks one side, so there's no need for that, and what would you want to mount at 4:30 or 7:30? A VFG at some faggo angle like a chainsaw? An offset light UNDER the barrel?

They make over 9000 45 degree offset M-Lok light, grip, sling and everything else solutions already, and they cost the same as an otherwise identical direct mount would. See Arisaka, IWC, Magpul, Griffin, Gear Sector and any other reputable brand. The prices are near as makes no difference identical between a 45 degree or direct mount.

Pic related. All the same price, do the same thing.

No way.

No fucking way.

I mean unless you folded all of your shims in half and also got part of your sleeve caught in there and also dropped an allen key in the works, there's no way it's that big. My pic up there >>31493900 is black shim plus 3 more shims for 4 total. And when I had it assembled WITHOUT the black shim, it was almost identical.

1/8" is fucking YUUUUUGE. Look at this shit. I could probably fit my tiny gunowner's cock in that chasm.

Recommend you take yours apart and check for debris or something if it's actually this big. Get some calipers and check, don't be all like "about" any more. Funsmithing is srs bsns.

To be honest, it's comfy.

That being said, it's got many of the same complaints I had against other rails.
>rear QD swivels sit too close to barrel
Even on a mid-profile .300blk barrel I can't use them, the sling studs hit the barrel before they lock in.
>mid-size OD
Too fat to be a "thin" handguard, too thin to get a suppressor up under it
>heavy for what it is
13" with the totally-proprietary-height rail necessary to get a front sight on the thing weighs around 14oz.
>expensive compared to other options
UTG Pro is $30 cheaper once you factor in the $20 proprietary front rail section so you can have a front sight, while weighing 3oz less. Even cheaper are a bunch of small-shop rails (Guntec, Matrix Arms, others) and chinese copies of dubious quality.

I'm firmly convinced that if it wasn't riding the Geissele name they wouldn't still be in business.

One of the higher-mag ones, and on a boltgun, but yes.

Really REALLY damn good glass. Lots of dumb options for reticles (at least for the model I used at the magnification I was using). Not sure how that'd apply to their 1-6x.

Even their matte finish is still kinda glossy, pretty much my only real complaint with it other than the dumb reticles.

Lemme stop you there.

What you want is the Advanced variant, with an ADM 1/3 QD riser. This is, by far, the most solid RD w/ mount budgetfag option out there.

If you're just looking to get the feels back of a 20" and not necessarily an exact clone, PSA has a a nice A4gery style AR. They were selling for $750 before they went out of stock, just sign up for an alert.

http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-20-classic-a2-rifle.html

On the other hand, they also have an upper that is a true clone, with a CHF barrel made by FN with the correct chrome lining, twist, profile, etc.

>>
>>31495994
The nice thing about the premium upper is the FN barrel at that price point. Nitride/qpq barrels are nothing special.

>>31496014

Now that I've figured out that there are gunsmith companies that do compliance work I can now get whatever uppers I want. But now I'm stuck with this 1:9, carbine length, railed gas block crap and I'm not sure what I want to do with it. Just use it as a spare part and reuse the upper for another build? Its a spikes upper.

Their CHF barrels are the best bargain on the market. It's a truly premium barrel. With a pencil profile 16" I'm getting 1 MOA with a 4x optic. It out shoots another PSA 16" 223 wylde stainless barrel, and a 16" nitride barrel that's in my group of friends (all PSA).

I have their 10.5" CHF upper, and I love it. However, unless you shoot nothing but Tula and mag dumps for thousands of rounds, I doubt you'll ever notice a difference tbqhf.
>>
>>31496038
No, it's fine. PSA just offers an amazing deal on FN barreled complete uppers. There's nothing wrong with the non-PTAC uppers, but you can find similar deals on the same specs elsewhere.
>>
>>31496071

Sell it.

Or chop it down to 14.5" and pin and weld a PWS brake (they're NY-lega), and free float it. You can send it to adco and they'll do all the work for cheap and fast.

By the time you do all that though, you could have bought a better upper for the same money.
>>
>>31496038
>>31496072
>>31496073

Isn't PSA Premium actually not CHF? They offer the CHF ones also, and both of these are made by FN but I think the Premium ones are button rifled. They both seem to have good reputations though.

Correct, premium is still made by FN, but it is cut rifling. It had to notate that it is a CHF barrel.

That said, the premium ones aren't made of legos either. Still an excellent barrel--the milspec TDP doesn't even specify that CHF is required. Colt still makes their barrels with cut rifling.

I honestly don't see the point of muzzle brakes on an AR. I'd love a flash hider, but fucking NY.

Nitride is good shit. Not as thick as chrome, but still pretty damn good--and they don't mess with accuracy any like chrome does.

It's also a LOT cheaper to do than chrome, so if you look at the price vs performance, you can always buy a new barrel.

Yeah, my AR(s) is strictly for hitting man sized targets at combat ranges, and I'd rather not blow out my ear drums if I need to shoot a bad guy inside my house at 2 AM. I'll be having adco put thread protectors on my next featureless guns. Also thinking of building a fixed mag AR.
