Not gonna pretend that 5.56 is really stout on recoil, but when certain designs can reduce recoil/muzzle climb by as much as 60% over a bare muzzle they have valid uses.
>timed competitions
>select-fire/full-auto use
>combat

They have very few drawbacks too.
>increased muzzle flash compared to a flash hider
While this is true, it's still pretty negligible unless you or your target are using NVG's.
>increased concussion to the shooter
While this is true, it's only more annoying--not more dangerous. Cranking a round off indoors is going to fuck your hearing whether you've got a flash hider, bare muzzle, brake, or "concussion reducer" all close enough to equally as to not matter.
>>
>>31496241

I'll keep that in mind. My second build has a thread protector pinned on, I wasn't really sure muzzle brakes were allowed now so that's mostly why I did that.

It's just a bargain PSA upper so I'm not too fussed either way, maybe next build I'll consider a brake.

So if Larue optics mounts mangle rails, what do Larue rails mangle?

What happens if you use a Larue optics mount on a Larue rail? Does the mangling cancel out or is it extra-mangled? Would it summon the FSM or Cthulu instead?

Rather extensive experience with a NiB BCG. I've had a FailZero and whatever company Black Rain Ordnance buys theirs through.
>don't bother
It wears super fast and by 1200 rounds was rougher than a phosphated BCG. By 3500 rounds the FailZero's coating was literally flaking off (they refused to repair or replace it), and by 4200 rounds the BRO one was worn through along the rails. Though neither of mine ever stained for some reason, which is the most common complaint on the internet.

got a buddy that works at Crane Naval Base and he says the only shit they really care about are the NVGs because of the cost. A PVS-14 costs like 3k while a AN/PEQ is like 1k. So Im sure they track them, just not as hard as a NVG

>>31496896
but muh trip is on?
>>
>>31496904
Cerakote's pretty much the only option unless you also want it to be super shiny.

NiB is a pretty if pointless coating for the receiver, it's just a terrible coating for the BCG. Hard chrome or nickel plating is also an option if you want the "80's African warlord" look.

>>31496920
It's still up in the air so we'll see, I honestly don't have much use for a PEQ since I don't own NVGs anyways, it'd just be cool aesthetic. The one that would be nice is he said he could try for an ACOG, which would save me the cost of getting a good optic. But I have my doubts

What all did I give you? Gauze, pressure dressing, and TQ is pretty much the most basic stuff you need unless you know what you are doing. Those will allow you to stabilize a boolit hole in a long enough for someone with medical experience to take over.

Easier to heat treat, easier to machine, may have a little better corrosion resistance if properly finished, not as resistant to fatigue as carpenter.

It's a cost-saving material that's advertised to be "just as good as!" what the mil specs call for.

The only reason to buy mil-spec is to understand that it's the minimum bar set for known quality. There's a lot of AR stuff in production that exceeds milspec in terms of materials and construction, and more that may be just as good, it's just not mil-spec. Personally I'd go for mil-spec option when the price is the same, but I mean your BCG probably won't explode if you get the other one.

If I hate it, then i'll just have them break the rockset and get a WarComp when they're back in stock when I get around to picking up a new barrel and save this barrel and SFMB for a dedicated 3gun.

Then again, it'd probably be cheaper just to buy a suppressor.

I wonder if /arg/ can clear up what sounds to me like fuddlore. A coworker of mine says with an SBR lower you have to carry the original upper around with the lower so you can revert it to its original configuration at any time. The way I've read things to work, as long as you keep the original length upper you used on your paperwork, you can use any other uppers on the gun--again, as long as back home in the safe is the same length barrel as declared on your form 1.

Who is correct? When I get my stamp, if I have multiple uppers I don't have to carry them all around with me at the range do I? That seems like an overly literal reading of the laws.

If it's an SBR you better keep the paperwork with it regardless. As for upper length, you can put whatever on it and be fine, just can't legally go shorter than the length you put on the paperwork.

But no, you don't NEED to keep a certain upper with it.

Fug, that's the first time I've heard this.

To clarify, here's a hypothetical situation I'm talking about.

>Form 1 papers list an 11.5 barrel
>have a second upper, lets say 12.5

Coworker says I literally have to take both uppers with the lower every time I go to the range. I don't think that's right, as long as I always own the 11.5 upper.

Maybe I'll order some more mags when I buy that front mbus. What's a good place to get 10/30 pmags?
>>
>>31500565
Nawh it doesn't matter what upper you have with it. You could run a 20" on it solo for whatever reason, there's no mandate on what upper you need to have with it.

By this logic it would be illegal to transport the stripped lower at all without an accompanying upper, even FFL to FFL.
>>
>>31500595
Right. Since I still own the 11.5 upper, even if I have another length upper in a different configuration that I for whatever reason feel like shooting on that day, I can still revert the gun to the registered configuration.

Tax stamp always being with the gun is a given. I intend to put the actual stamp in a safe deposit box at my bank and carry a photocopy in a plastic bag in the pistol grip of the SBR lower.

As for "can't go shorter than the form 1" where did you get this information? I think that's also incorrect, from what I've read.

My understanding from a fellow coworker is that the individual ATF agent for our area came in a explained that to him. We had a manufacturer's license but I don't see why it would then applying across the board.

It's also interesting to note that caliber is also effected by this. If you list 5.56 as the caliber (since Multi and generic ones like .30 are a no-no) it could be construed as illegal to put a different caliber upper on it. Doubt that would actually happen though.

>>31501214
This ain't the price is right faggot
>>
>>31501237
Warehouses or stores that fucked up their inventory and shelved it for a years.

Nobody wanted this shit until DD stopped commercial sales. Same reason people are paying ridiculous prices on surefire muzzle devices right now, except surefire is supposed to be replenishing stock in the next two weeks or so.
>>
>>31501298
I paid $90 for a socom brake, not sure why you think they are super high right now lmao
>>
>>31501298
Normally I'd say that it'll all be sold out by the time it comes in due to an election year panic buy. I don't really get that same feeling this year. At least not yet.

I've only shot my buddy's AR with a pretty standard front handguard and grip panels.

Shooting it the other day it seemed to translate a lot of heat to the handguard to the point that I had to shoot using a vert grip or let it cool after 30 rounds fired every 2ish seconds.

For all of these all metal handguards you guys have, how do you/they manage the heat?
>>
>>31501412
Just piss on it m8
>>

That's retarded. Just buy a complete upper and part out the rest.

SOCOM a great. I've got a RIS II FSP I want to put on mine as soon as I can muster the patience to deal with the pinned flash hider, or say fuck it and limit its use to pistol-only for the next six months.

Is buying a BCM 16" upper a meme if I want to build an AR for under $1000?

I'm thinking of getting a PSA lower kit and slapping on a BCM upper and a performance trigger once I get the money.
>>
>>31501566
It's not if you're investing in a nice trigger. Don't limit a nice trigger with a shit barrel.

$1

I'm fairly new to the AR world, but what's wrong with their barrels?

Nothing. You implied there's something wrong with buying a BCM upper. I said there isn't considering you're getting a nice trigger, and that it would be wrong to pair a nice trigger with some unknown manufacture budget barrel of questionable accuracy potential.

PSA Premium have chrome FN barrels, they're a great deal on a complete upper.

A "bad" barrel is one the vendor won't reveal where they're sourcing them from.

>>31501519
Is that a collar or something on the top upper? How the hell did they get the fsp on there, it looks to be smaller diameter than that portion of the barrel behind the fh
>>
>>31502061
Are there any drawbacks besides weight?
What if I want to mount an M203?
Isn't it only 1oz more than a gov. profile m4 barrel?
>>
>>31502103
It feels noticeably more heavy than a standard barrel profile.

That's not to say it's unwieldy, but you definitely won't mistake it for a lighter profile of the same length.
>>
>>31502097
it's a canadian thing
a sleeve that goes on after the FSB is put on
it's how you mount a bayonet to a 16" gas system

>>31502103
>What if I want to mount an M203?
you won't
>Isn't it only 1oz more than a gov. profile m4 barrel?
doesn't feel like it

Are you going to be mag dumping a lot?
BCM makes really nice lightweight profiles, and if you're going to be handling your rifle a lot the weight will make a difference

It's a Simon Sleeve. It's a Canadian device that allows the use to mount a bayonet and works with the Canadian M203 mount.
>>
>>31502140
Not that anon, but I would like something that will accept high volumes of fire.
I have a 14.5 middy lightweight upper, and it got pretty damn hot compared to my previous gov't profile barrel with only about 100 rounds.

also a govt profile would be the same diameter under the handguards, or pretty close anyway
