My aunty was on it back in the 90's.
I was in the audience when my neighbour was on the Big Money Game Show. Not the same but I got to see Eddie Hobbs in the RTÉ canteena.
>>

Doesn't need a justification. Bertie did the same thing to his predecessor. Law of the jungle.

You're right, there was someone much greater.

>Doesn't need a justification. Bertie did the same thing to his predecessor. Law of the jungle.
I don't buy that. Martin would have at least have to had provided a reason to the press for why Bertie was ousted. I vaguely remember the news reports from the time, and I could have sworn there was some paper-thin reason given.

Much like Blair and Major he was there to take credit for what Fitzgerald had done.

He was disgraced and and was ousted under intense scrutiny, setting up Cowen as his fall guy. His economic "achievements" which destroyed the country?

Jesus, you're practically a celebrity.

>>77724992

We have arguments over this. Some say calling it football makes you a brit, others say saying soccer makes you a yank. When you include Gaelic football the whole thing gets muddied even further.
It really depends on who you ask.
>>
>>77724992
It's called soccer in most parts since Football is a GAA game, you'll still find some who use the British terminology for Football in some parts though.
>back when atlético had Fernando Torres
He's been back with them for about 3 years now.

>>77725093
>others say saying soccer makes you a yank
Does anyone say that? All the major media outlets have it listed as Soccer on their websites.

I visit dublin once or twice a week for work. I've also visited it countless times over my lifespan for leisure and stuff.
Anti-social behaviour is everywhere. There is never a single time you visit Dublin without seeing some sort of crime or shit going down, no matter what part it is.
All the main tourist attractions are full of scum. You're bound to see harrassment, or get harassed yourself for either change or cigarettes or whatever, generally intimidated.
The amount of times I've seen shop windows just being smashed in the middle of the day, or people robbing shit. Junkies screaming at each other in the street or open drug deals.
You have to be fairly careful with where you park too, as I've seen peoples windows be smashed over the years after leaving the car parked for merely 30 minutes.
If it's not that within the city then it's some random shit going down on the m50 or other roads in Dublin.
Random knackers flying about the place hanging out the window of their car or people just driving like maniacs.
The amount of shootings and stabbings in Dublin recently too is significant.

Aside from the issue of crime and pollution, you have the overcrowded and broken infrastructure. Hours upon hours of traffic jams for hours each day. Buses that are never on time and seemingly random if they show up at all.
Random homeless people shitting and pissing on the street or side of roads.

I've been in Dublin at least 30 times this year and I also worked up there for a couple months. It's a fucking kip. There are so many shithole neighborhoods and area's.
Then you just get the dubs complaining that we only visit o'connel street etc, one of the two most popular streets for tourists in the city. They're kips too full of scum.

No other town or city in Ireland has to deal with this shit. It may be nice by international standards, but by Irish standards it's a hell hole.
Dubs are thick as shit too. They have no idea what it's like outside their miserable urban sprawl.

Can't wait for that tripfag (you know who it is) to show up and get all butthurt and defensive. Living in utter denial.

My experiences there have been similar, I think we take for granted how safe and relaxed life is in most parts of this country and Dublin is maybe a window into what life is like in some of the rougher corners of western society. In London or many cities in the US locals are familiar with the concept of many areas being unsafe to visit alone, at night or in some cases in any circumstance. We don't really have the concept of a "bad neighbourhood" in this country so it's a bit of a culture shock to go to Dublin and realise you can't wander wherever you like without seeing things like that.
It's a shame things have got to that degree though, I remember as a child when Dublin was seen as a safe and welcoming place for everyone. Something seriously changed in the last 15 years or so.
The weirdest thing is the attitudes though, as you said. I have family up there and regardless of how bad things get they'll defend their decision to live there. They seem to have a weird defence mechanism where no matter how much they hate life in Dublin they're capable of convincing themselves they'd hate life "down the country" even more. My sister had her bins set on fire for about the 4th time last week so woke up again to plastic goop soaked into the pavement and last time I was up there I could see from her living room teenagers on the green area building a fire in the corner and smoking weed in the middle of the afternoon. That all just seems to be normal
There are even so many people who'd literally rather be homeless on the Dublin streets than accept the many vacant social housing on offer in places like Leitrim or Longford, it's mind boggling.

Hold on now; I hate Dublin as much as anybody here, but Limerick and Cork definitely have bad neighbourhoods where it would be unwise to go. Proportionally Dublin just has far more though.

Neither are really practical, you're very unlikely to find someone who can't speak english unless you want to talk to young children and old people out in the country.
Though I will say there are benefits to knowing Irish in Ireland. Some careers, like the Gardaí (policemen), have an easier application if you know Irish. Plus you could probably get a job at TG4 or somewhere easier than most other foreigners. Really though most of the benefits are for secondary school students trying to get into college.

If I had to say I'd say Irish would be the better language to learn simply because you'll have a hard time putting your Welsh skills to work once Brexit kicks in.
