I pray the day will come when we are freed from the grasp of shitty mods and return to our homeland.

>>
If I report this thread for being off topic, do you think the mods might understand that these threads need to be brought home?
>>
this is ruined soon

I give you an advice: you don't reply to Japs
>>
>>>/a/150161736
This is the result of your idiocy. The more you spam /a/, the stronger the anti-DJT sentiment on MY board (which is clearly not YOUR board) becomes.

Maybe moving to /int/ wasn't so bad after all, because now it's easier than ever to identify the problem.
>>
>>67851976
I would never even come to this shithole board if it weren't for the mods. I don't want to be here. No one wants to be here.
>>
>>67851960
I've seen Korean/Mandarin learning thread a few times here. Mods are likely to ignore the report.
>>
>>67851976
read the global rules. you arent entitled to have some shitty recuring thread on any board. last thing int needs is an another fucking general thread so please do fuck off of this platform altogether.
>>
>>67852068
Are you a 4chan moderator?
>>
finished katakana and hiragana after a few days; is this a considerable achievement or does it dwarf in comparison with whats to come?

It's important, but much, much easier than any other part of this language.
>>

>>
Whatever problem /a/ is having that warranted this would probably be solved by the /qa/ /a/nons and /a/ mods fucking off to reddit *cough*
Literally up until they pulled this shit I actively defended the current iteration of /a/ as "still better than '08-'09!" Nope. 11/22/16, the day /a/ hit a new low.
>>
>>67852176
>*action*
>>
@67852132
Shut the fuck up and stop acting like a retard. If DJT was the only reason you came to /a/, you can start a Japanese thread on /r9k/ or /v/ or whichever shithole you crawled out of to blog about your Anki progress.
>>
Wow, they really kicked these over to /int/? Can't really see these threads taking off here...

Anyway, my reading is getting pretty good, barely need to use the text hooker, but I still suck at listening and rely on subtitles a lot when watching anime. This happen to anyone else?
>>
>>67852171

hey if it makes you feel any better most people don't even past hiragana in my experience. Anytime someone asks me how to learn japanese I tell them to learn hiragana and they never ever get past it. So good for you anon :)
>>
>>67852120
It's like learning the alphabet.

im an user like anyone else and general threads are an eyesore that dont belong on 4chan and they should had been percecuted the moment they started to surface, period. now every retard can go "its part of the board culture because we have been engaging in this dubious and questionable habit for years so it should remain untouched!" I hate you.
>>
>>67852005
>I've seen Korean/Mandarin learning thread a few times here
Maybe because /int/ is supposed to be about language learning?
Those are the threads that should be on this board and not these dogshit generals
>>
>>67852248
>@67852132
This is some next level shit, son.

>>67852264
In a way, it's less than the alphabet since it's lacking the kanji.
>>
>>67852355
>im an user like anyone else
Yes, it was a rhetorical question. Notice how the mods are deleting posts here but leaving the thread up.
>>
>>67852355
I used to browse the old DJT on /a/ when I first started learning Japanese a while back, it was pretty useful for learning how to go about learning the language, and the importance of reading native material, etc.

But that's pretty much the only use it had. Once you start to improve at the language you don't really feel the need to browse it anymore and I suspect that's what most people do.

All it was was just a bunch of nerds posting their Anki graphs to brag about getting 98% and showing off all their mature cards.

Amazon is offering $10 off $25+ for books with free shipping, using promo code "HOLIDAYBOOK". If you need something to top you off, look up "Dover Thrift Editions" for some cheap filler books.

I just used it to buy a dictionary. (I also had a $5 gift card).

What kind of threads do you like? Please describe them for me.

>>67852430
I wonder what would happen if we tried to make our thread on /a/ but stayed on topic. The one that just went up than down only had posts about this drama before it was gone; the op and my post at the last second not included.
>>
Why does the guide suggest that learning the radicals early on is lazy? Seems like rushing to increase your kanji vocabulary is (relatively) lazy if anything.
>>
>>67852257
no because I watched cartoons all the time for listening practice
>>
>>67852527
Could you quote that part of the guide; I'm too lazy to look it up.

I don't think I can comment on that though because I went through RTK and I can't undue that to know what it's like to brute force vocab. 残念

• Being able to flip through it physically.
• You can search for things you have no idea how to type (although drawing the character sometimes works in some programs).
• Depending on your online source, definitions from physical ones are usually more accurate.
• Not reliant on a power source or an internet connection
• Don't have to minimize screen if looking up a character from a game
>>
>>67852874
>drawing the character sometimes works in some programs
It actually works 100% of the time in google translate of all programs, given you know stroke order.
Stroke order's not that tough to pick up though.
>>
>>67852874
>• Being able to flip through it physically.
Ok
>• You can search for things you have no idea how to type (although drawing the character sometimes works in some programs).
I think you need to learn how to search using operators and phrases. Digital has the upper hand with this aspect.
>• Depending on your online source, definitions from physical ones are usually more accurate.
Seriously? I have a hard time believing that this could be true. Are you just comparing it to sites like the wwwjdic and jisho.org?
>• Not reliant on a power source or an internet connection
Huge plus for paper.
>• Don't have to minimize screen if looking up a character from a game
You could always have another computer or tablet.

With more complex stuff it lets you get away with drawing ugly shit easier.
People complain about it not working for them occasionally so you've got to specify that stroke order plays into it.
>>
>>67853014
Is the learner's one not hardcover?
I really don't like big books that are paperback. I bought a copy of infinite jest paperback and that thing looks like shit now.
I guess dictionaries take less damage than novels through regular use though.

It's paperback. I honestly prefer paperback because for the literal flexiblity. They just feel more comfortable, meaning that I'm more likely to use it. The big trade off is that they obviously wear down easily.

I read on my laptop when I'm not moving and my phone when I am

Manga on a phone is kind of painful but image scan LNs work fine. Hate dealing with ebook formats.
As a sort of pyrrhic bonus, relying on the dictionary has given me a lot of typing practice with the swipe keyboard.
>>
>>67853869
I have a tablet, but it is only 7" which I think is too small for comfortable reading. I usually read on the desktop, but I hate having to zoom in and scroll. I'm probably getting a monitor arm for Christmas so I can just turn my monitor sideways when I read manga. That seems like a perfect solution.

CoR-くん and the angry /qa/ mouthbreather called Sakura have always been the same person. It's not a coincidence that CoR-くん was Australian and the /qa/ spastic has an Australian flag here.

At first I thought his behaviour might be excusable by bipolar disorder or some other illness, but since he flips between the Jekyll and Hyde personalities minutes apart, it's clear he's just a passive-aggressive asshole around the clock. The CoR was an exercise in narcissism for him rather than an unconditional attempt to help, which is why he deletes everything each time his glass ego gets grazed.

You have to realise that this is part of why the thread was removed. The angry spastic as you label it was right and if instead of spending so much time and effort into trying to blame all the problems on one person and if they were actually addressed this thread wouldn't be on /int/.
>The CoR was an exercise in narcissism for him rather than an unconditional attempt to help,

The entire thing being the CoR and CoR-くん are all things we created as memetic references which the anon who put it together only ever used after others had already established it, and he never tripfagged or blogged or anything. The actions involved are entirely opposite of a narcissist. If you know anything about internet here in Australia it's more like sadomasochism more than anything else.
>which is why he deletes everything each time his glass ego gets grazed.
Every time something major like that happened, which was like once or something, the response was to divide it up between other anons as a security measure. Do you remember the original djt.moe or djt.minna (forget what it was) site with all the stuff in the op being put together? It was suddenly offline like a few days after it was up and the person responsible for making the site made a post about it in the thread about how it was flagged for copyright materials. That was the only post about it and it and an archive copy of the site was posted so it could be reuploaded by anyone else. Once again, pretty much the opposite of what a narcissist would do.
I don't know why you have tried to frame it like this. Out of all the people involved in the stuff in the op, that guy was the only one who didn't act egotistical about it. What happened to make you so personally offended? Sounds like a personal grudge far beyond a simple 4chan general.
>>
>>67861147
Might be a timely reminder that this whole Sakura thing called from a single op image some people didn't like and threw a fit over >>67853868 It was so hated by some people that they spent entire threads derailing everything to complain about it, to the point that others started making the threads with the image just to spite the complainers. That's probably more of a telling indicator of the sort of thread culture that became so bad that the lazy nature of moderation of 4chan decided to up and move the thread instead of having to deal with the crazed spergs within.

So an ontopic question here. Each day my Lean/Relearn/Young is about a 1:1:1 split. I just struggle to remember some words when it's been a week since I last saw them. Is this normal?
>>
>>67862189
>Each day my Lean/Relearn/Young is about a 1:1:1 split.
What is that in Due/New ratio?
Anyway, Anki stats don't mean much. You should gauge your progress by reading native content. If you need to look up words that you've already seen in Anki frequently, you might want to consider studying kanji/radicals (assuming you're not already doing that). I studied kanji and recommend it, but I imagine learning radicals would wield similar results. Otherwise, adjust your new card limit and try to find a comfortable pace.
>>
>>67862367
Due:New is about 150:20.

Thanks for the info though. Native content is something I need to spend more time doing. I might take up radicals because some kanji are really hard to differentiate by memory alone. It's easiest to remember when the word is compound kanji or kanji+kana but a lone kanji throws me if I've seen similar ones.
>>
>spend too much time on anki and grammar points
>get completely shat on by reading and listen section
And I was thinking as long as you have broad vocab knowledge you could understand every sentences. I learned my lesson the hard way ;-;

Looks fairly normal to me, at at 20 new cards per day my review number fluctuates between 100 and 150. Regarding the importance of reading, you should keep in mind that Anki is first and foremost a memorization tool, and not necessarily a learning tool, and that Core2k6k is an unnatural means of acquiring vocab - the natural way would be to make your own cards from words you encounter while reading, which is what most people do after studying the first 1000-2000 cards in Core.
>>
>>67862895
At least your reading level will increase faster than your vocab will. I was a pretty lazy faggot when it comes to reading but I've been reading a lot lately and I've definitely improved significantly.

Stop learning just kanji, learn vocab instead. It's far more useful in the long term.

If you really must focus on kanji alone, go through one of the courses for it, Kodansha's or Heisig etc. pick your poison after you've tried them out for a little bit. Blaze through them as fast as possible, since time spent studying individual kanji isn't actually getting you that much closer to your goal - vocab is far better.

Once you're past the beginner's stage you'll realize that kanji really isn't that big of a hurdle - grammar and vocab are much larger problems.
>>
As I remember it, after several months you could notice the decline. After the first year you had people who proudly didn't care about /a/, and the people calling their shit out just died out. At some point it became alright to refer to the thread with the general /djt/ tag. In my mind that's symptomatic of the underlying culture shift the thread went through.

I can probably count on one hand the number of djt's I've been in, in the better part of 2 years. So I can see how the thread could get to the point where getting evicted from /a/ is a legitimate action, but lack the experience of the threads lately to judge the matter properly.

I once did a strawpoll census near the end of 2013
http://www.strawpoll.me/445263/r
, and there's roughly 70% between exclusively /a/, or considered /a/ their mainboard, and out of morbid curiosity I wonder where the thread is now, though this isn't the venue for taking it.
>>
>>67867002
You are wrong. You use a linear projection while actually the more you progress the slower it gets to learn new Kanji since you get to see far less often new kanji.

If you have time it might be worth going through core slowly at first and learning or "making" radicals as you see them instead. The kangxi radicals help a bit but they don't relate much to how kanji are composed today; some are almost always used in their "alternative" form and others hardly crop up at all. Moreover some kanji are used so much in other kanji that they deserve more to be radicals than the actual radicals.

What the fuck. I unsuccessfully try to quit 4chan for the hundred time and come back to this. I hate this board. This is temporary right?

来夏で三週間に日本に行くことにした。僕は日本能力試験三級っぽいレベルだけど、聴解がまだまだ下手だから、日本語学校で習いたいだけど、どうするのがあまり知っていない。

I plan on going 3 weeks in japan this summer and I would like to take language course at a language school to improving my speaking and listening skills.

Anybody has advice or have done something like that?

If we lie down and take it, it won't be temporary.

If we make a lot of racket, it might not. After all, that's how shitpost-kun got his way in the first place, right?

I think those meanings are as follows.

I pasted a picture on a wall.
I hung a picture on a wall.
I made a picture touch a wall.
(Or it might be able to be used as a meaning like "I added the decoration of a picture to the wall.")

No -- do not stoop to their level.
What we need to do is to have civilized threads on /a/ and report all the people trying to derail us into off topic shit.

In an ideal world, yes staying civil would work, but the mods have proven they are either literally retarded or incapable of sticking to policy.

I don't see the point in trying to stay civilized if that got us nowhere last time.

That never worked before. Ideally one of our resident autists who is in the thread 24/7 would become a mod or at least a janitor
>>
>>67879401
It's only been a couple days. I would imagine that this is really one mod and a couple shitposters trying to keep us out. If others see that they are the ones making useless posts then we will gain more support.
Please don't stoop to their level.
I've reported more posts in the last few days than I have in all of my years on 4chan. I know it's not doing anything, but if enough of us start fighting back that way...

>>67879551
No, that's no good either. Ideally it would be someone neutral. We don't deserve special treatment, no one does.
>>
>>67879612
>I've reported more posts in the last few days than I have in all of my years on 4chan. I know it's not doing anything, but if enough of us start fighting back that way...
I honestly believe I report at least 100 posts for every post I make. I'm at a loss on what to do what you are suggesting seems to be the best course of action but I doubt it will do anything
>>
>>67879612
So not only you're abiding to the change, you are actually HELPING it by reporting everything?

Mods wouldn't ban shit when we were on /a/, where hammers were needed. Why would they be working now that we're on /int/, where /a/ rules don't even apply?

The answer is: to pretend DJT fits /int/ and not /a/. And as soon as that is "proved", they can just forget about us and let it rot.
>>
>>67879703
>I honestly believe I report at least 100 posts for every post I make
To add to this 9/10 of my posts are either "Who are you quoting" or mocking people who pluralise anime manga or kanji
>>
>>67879009
/djt/ historically is for those who self-study the written aspect of the language. Especially now that the thread has been displaced, you'll be very hard pressed to find someone who can actually answer your question.

My suggestion would be to really research your school ahead of time, and make sure it's really worth your time / money, when compared to what you could learn via self-study, a personal tutor, or hell just talking to people while being a tourist.
>>
>>67879795
So if this foreign thread gets more reports than the rest of this board combined they might notice something?
>>
>>67879795
That's not what I meant at all -- sorry, I forgot to clarify that all of my reporting takes place on /a/ in the short lived threads that we have.
I would prefer it if we didn't use the threads on /int/ as we usually would since it would be like giving up on returning to our home but that doesn't mean we need to act like little shits on /int/ while we are here.
>>
>>67879612
As if the mods would start giving a shit about /djt/ NOW? You're not making any sense, anon.

Mass reporting is just going to piss them off, more than anything. It's far easier to pass on the buck and say "oh let /int/ deal with it".

The point is to show them that no, passing it off to someone else isn't a solution.
>>
>>67852711
Some people just learn better with physical

>Mass reporting is just going to piss them off, more than anything. It's far easier to pass on the buck and say "oh let /int/ deal with it".
That's a good point but I just can't give up hope yet.
>>
>>67879935
I'm one of the more helpful posters in /djt/ and I have no interest in a thread that stays on /int/. I can't be anonymous if there are no other posters with the same flag as me.
I doubt i'm the only regular poster with these sentiments
>>
Do you think /ag/ might be a solution to our current state? It seems like the best option to me, not only for DJT but also for the other generals, but a lot of people are skeptical about it.
>>
>>67879906
I don't get it, you're reporting offending posts in an illegal DJT thread that is already marked as "delete on sight"? What good would that do?

I say it's better to report every single slightly-offending general so more people will see/feel the huge load of crap this policy is.
>>
>>67880118
/ag/ might be nice, but if every anime of the season gets a general, what is /a/ for?

Unless /a/ becomes "useless threads and previously aired anime", in which case it would be pretty interesting. But /ag/ would become the main board, of course.
>>
>>67880118
>Do you think /ag/ might be a solution to our current state?
No, Never. I wouldn't mind splitting up anime and manga but It would become impossible to discuss anything outside of generals if that happened.
I doubt either option will ever happen

That's kinda sucks.
I would have imagine more people would have been in japan since it's literally the only place it's spoken.

The thing is I don't any japanese so I won't probably speak much japanese even in japan so I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity not only to have fun but also to make progress.
>>
>>67880230
>>67880276
Threads about seasonal shows would still be allowed on /a/. /ag/ would mainly be dedicated to threads about finished shows that are up 24/7, and also DJT, buyfag etc.
>>
>>67880804
I don't know*
>>
>>67880804
It's because people coming from /a/ generally wanted to consume media in Japanese, not necessarily speak it with others.

Honestly, if you go to Japan not knowing a whole lot, you're not going to pick up a whole lot either. It's not another romance language, where there is ~60% vocabulary overlap and very similar grammar.

You only "learn a language" while speaking if you can understand ~85+% of what's being fed to you, otherwise there will be too many holes to have a proper conversation.
>>
>>67880988
m8 Im not going to wait until N1 to think, I can rightfully speak japanese with japs.

I don't give a fuck if I still make mistake and don't understand 100%. Otherwise I should rather give because.
>>
>>67881392
Of course not, I was just trying to point out that you can't just "wing it" when you get there. You do need to have some knowledge beforehand is all.

Unlike a lot of very similar European languages, no offense.
>>
>>67880825
The thing is keeping shows that are no longer airing alive makes no sense. Why not make airing shows "generals" and constant instead?
Give a leeway for hype to wade (1 month after airing, for instance), then transfer it back to non-general threads in /a/,

>>67880804
>>67881392
Honestly, I would focus on learning some basic grammar. Don't worry about kanji or anything complex. Learn to pidgin and try to get some useful sentence constructions people use more often.

You can grind vocabulary and kanji later when you return to France.
>>
>>67881506
Oh, and one more thing: by all means learn all the kanas before going there, it's realy fast and the return is huge. Shouldn't take more than a week if you study one or two hours every day, maximum.
>>
>>67881506
>Honestly, I would focus on learning some basic grammar.

m8 Im preparing N2, that already past basic grammar if you don't know.

I pretty sure everyone assumed you meant to write "I don't know any Japanese". In fact I'm not sure what else it could have been, but you certainly didn't make it clear you are at N2 level.
