Well I don't think that's much to bitch about. Life is long. But it also depends on what we're qualifying as "great" practice. I've say "overtime" is a good measurement, that is, at least 56 hours a week (8 hours a day, 7 days a week). If that's not enough to see good gains every month of practice, I don't know what is.

feel very faint, in a non confident way. I think it's from the lack of edge variation. It's either soft or flat. The shadow cast by the character should at the very least be a hard edge, maybe the folds in the robe as well.

Maybe. I'm just comparing to my own pace.
The earliest thing I have on my computer, which is from around when I started drawing seriously-ish, is from july 2014. Before that I had only done school notebook doodles, starting sometime in 2013.

So lets say I've been drawing for 2.5 years, with what I would call very questionable work ethic (until recently, and even then it's not great) and I'd say I'm around the level of the picture that we talked about in the previous thread. (pic related).

Okay I can tell you watched a lot of Zim once upon a time, but for christ's sake take a step back and look at that.

All the shiny hair brushes in the world can't replace construction. If were working in multiple layers I suggest going back and doing some serious construction on the face; like, break it down really hard especially the eye size, placement and design. I especially suggest also working the hair in layers; consider what each part of the hair is doing relative to all the others.Those weird spurs on the side don't follow very well, even if you were going for yugioh hair.

You can still go for the gnarly fire eyes and shit, but make sure it makes sense before going whole hog on the extras.

Remember there's a difference between realism and solid construction. Getting wild and sloppy is not the same as making stylistic choices.

I tried using Clip studio to sketch but looking back on it I should've just done what I'm doing now and use Sai for fluid sketching/occasional inking and Clip Studio for rendering/sharp feathered lines. I'm still trash, but I would say that it's much more enjoyable and faster to draw, and I usually get better results.

As much as I'd like to just rest on my laurels with the sketch, that's the kind of fat assed textured brush I love to use that's kept me in this sketching-only comfort zone the entire time I've been drawing. The unevenness of it and its gritty texture has a certain inherent appeal that I find very addicting but I don't see it being suitable for finished linework or coloring really. Well, I'm not after anyone elses style, but I do realize that some things come out of subconscious. There's some solutions that resembles Bill Watterson and Moebius, but mostly I look after painters like Gallen-Kallela, Hugo Simberg and few russian masters.

Did some more color tests, I'm leaning towards really harsh 3-tone palette, since it has nice feel and it's easier to push pages. I think I can still get some feel to it, if I just keep hatching some areas by hand.

Interesting things happened, when I mixed those two versions. I would like to do more like this, but it's just too much work.

Think of the planes of the ribs down to her abs and the pelvic area. Does it have to be a flat? At first glance the strings shows that the abs area is flat. I think to able to express that she's bending, you have to curve the strings somehow wrapping around her waist.

Triple check your anatomy, cause everything is out of place and disjointed, and I mean it literally.
The eyes are overdetailed compared to everything else, the nose is nonexistant, the face is too large and flat, the hair looks like a bunch of plastilina strands, the head is disjointed from the body, the collarbone is not placed properly, the chest makes no sense with the hip and waist, the hands are too large, and everything has too many round shapes that have no reason to be there.

Next time post it before you start cleaning up, that way it'd be easier to point out where you're going wrong, instead of just making a huge list of flaws.

I feel your pain anon. /ic/ makes art seem harder than it is but just doing 1-3 hours a day of solid practicing and studying will really help. Every day I come back to my previous sketches I can see the improvement. Doing something daily for a couple hours is much better than going all out for 7-12 hours on the weekends trust me.

Trying to learn how to draw like my art idol.

I spent the last few hours breaking down a drawing he did and redrawing it myself, but the anatomy feels so fucky that I can no longer tell if the original art's anatomy is fucky or if I'm just messing it up. Honestly one of the hardest poses I've ever attempted, but I want to improve.

I've noticed a *lot* of people on this board seems to have a huge hate boner for "pig noses". It simply depends on the face, but noses comes in different shapes, those "pig noses" being one of them. I don't see people do it enough, quite annoying.

However for the character in question, if the artist must conform to a closer to the source image, I'd agree the nose needs to be thinner.

i agree she had a lumpy nose before. I think if other parts were rendered as much as her nose it would've looked more natural but maybe not it mighta just been over rendered.

It's too rough anon. Try turning down the opacity of the layer you did your "linework on" and go over the lines you want in smooth strokes. Don't use your wrist to draw long lines in multiple strokes, only use your elbow and shoulder to do them in one try
