Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make your mom proud.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (also images shouldn't come out accidentally sideways with this method)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new sticky in town! You can see it at:

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Why is there such a crazy discrepancy in eye size? Even with the eye's being as huge as they are where they would wrap around the head, the eye height wouldn't change just from a head turning, the distance isnt so great to require that perspective distortion.
>>
>>2672460
Sometimes you just need to power through things and practice hard to become comfortable with that which makes you uncomfortable. However if you're getting the results you want with just eyeballing, then more power to you, go for it. It's all about practicing and finding the techniques that help you achieve your desired end results.

Well one thing, notice how in your "not traced" sketch, a lot of your lines are ending up very straight and parallel to the x and y axis of the canvas. In the "traced" version, the comparable lines are curved and often at a different angle. You also have a tendency to line up the features of the face, most notably around the jaw giving it a "bulging" appearance. whereas in the reference, the features follow the gentle curves of the head.

I think the two most noteable flaws in this is

-the eyes are too close together, the eye on our right (her left eye) needs to be a bit further out.

-The line/shadow defining her chin is much too straight and over defined. It should show the soft curve of her chin by both having softer edges to the shadows (like shading a ball) and following the curve of the chin.

Your drawing shows your lack of judgment on value, you must be clear in your head whether you want to do value or not.
>>
>>2672756
It's a good start fa m. Go ahead and move on to another book if loomis doesn't click with you.

Also try applies loomis' construction technique to a face from a reference or imagination to see if it's stuck.

>>2672896
looks fine to me anon

>>2672897
Did you post this in the last thread? In any case I feel like lineweight would add a lot of what's missing to this. The arm seems a little out of perspective and the pose is stiff overall but it's an okay beginner's work.

>>2672931
the far thigh seems a little thick. Otherwise cut the feathery lines and it'll be reasonable.

>>2672955
Not memeing you, read loomis. Keys to drawing may also help. Lots of symbols and not a lot of substance in there anon.

>>2672960
I feel you anon. A few things I'll point out anyway: Eyes are a bit far apart. Doesn't appear to have any form where it feels like there should be on the back and a little on the neck. The blue butterfly in her hair doesn't have enough contrast imo. Also I don't know what's going on with the hair but if the hair is blowing that extremely to the left, her fringe should also. Ear, nose eyes and lips come of as symbols in an otherwise reasonably accurate piece.

>>2672992
I'm a different anon but that doesn't bother me. Colours are good and it looks like apples, but I'm not sure what the other bits are. Sharper edges or more contrast could help.

>>2672994
Did you want a critique for this? I love snoots but there's not a lot to talk about here.

>>2673011
Seems fair enough. Some of your shapes are slightly off; the pouring part of the jug and the handle specifically. Perspective on the lower part too. My advice for fixing it, if you choose to accept it, is to consider negative space as well as just the subject to get a good idea of how things fit.

It's funny because i don't even construct anymore, not consciously or very few times.
I think it's more important that the 'construction stuff' happens in your head, you have to feel it.

As you can see in pic related (scan so not blurry hehe) i don't construct anything i just have a good time laying values, but i can only do that because i've grinded fundies for a full year, and i've started drawing only 2 years ago.

Those chicken scratch lines are a habit you want to lose quickly. Not so bad if you don't draw regularly but if you do it'll cost you in materials and potentially damage your wrist and shoulders. You've got some 'symbols' going on; you're drawing the eyes, nose and mouth like you think they should look instead of how they actually look. This is what gives it the cartoony feel. Also the lack of a neck. I recommend Loomis or some other introductory text on drawing the face (Fun with a Pencil) or Keys to Drawing. You can find them in the book thread or by googling.

>>2673153
Hi anon, welcome if you weren't already a lurker. Have a look at the sticky and try the exercises it suggests. One major problem I can see is the symbol drawing (see above), and a poor understanding of anatomy. The harsh cut of between the skull and the face is also unrealistic and it looks like two images spliced together instead of one coherent piece. It's an excellent start though. Threw together a shitty image of what I mean; it's not quite 1:1 but hopefully the point is clear enough.

It's more of a mental thing than anything. You just have to learn how to do it. It's like believing there's a flat earth. Trying rotating a box in 45 degree increments to the right then do that to the sky and the ground, etc. If you can do a box, you can do other things too. Like an organic shape.

Why the fuck are women so hard to draw.

I know how to draw a man. Men are easy to draw. You can emphasize structure.

Women? No fucking luck. All soft curves. One slip up with the brush, just a little warble or a little too heavy with the ink, and you're fucked. Pic related is beautiful. But for whatever reason I can't even copy it. I can't even look at my attempts, I have to black them all out.

It just makes me want to find some random woman and bash her fucking head in.

And don't give me that Loomis/Vilppu/Proko shit. I know all that, I'm just venting.

Not being able to draw creatures with clear and simple bodyshape and featureless faces makes me believe you are retarded.
Now show me those male studies. I bet they are much worse than your female ones.
>>
If I want to draw mostly from nature, and I'm not interested in drawing from imagination, at least right now, the bst exercise is actually doing that, right? I'm an absolute beginner, and right now I mostly practise with circles, elipses, boxes and lines, to get used to drawing and to be more accurate and clean in my drawings. Of course I need to learn to draw what I acutally see, learn about the perspective and measuring, what books should I try? I started reading Drawing on the right side, and I got the Loomis' books, which one of them should I start with?
>>
>>2673454

Thinking simpler likenesses are easier to draw than more complex ones makes me think you're the retarded one here.

It's a universally recognized observation that the elderly are much easier to draw than infants for exactly this reason.

Men are more angular and have more landmarks. More angles = easier to calculate. More landmarks = easier to construct. With a man it's easy to add definition. You can build off of the skull, work with straighter lines, in general get away with much form-defining detail which evenly distributes the load.

Smooth rolling curves and more open faces have fewer features, which means that the features that are there (eyes, lips, etc) carry much more weight and require a much more distinguishing and experienced touch.

So get the fuck outta here with your bullshit.

You're an idiot.
You think why every beginner likes to draw anime girls? Because they are simple and easy constructed just like real women.

More details and complicated shapes=harder to get it right.
>>
>>2673475

Beginners gravitate towards anime because it's radically stylized and makes extensive use of symbols that can be memorized and transplanted from drawing to drawing. There's no anatomy to be memorized and no forms to be processed,

Why do you think people have an easier time drawing anime eyes than they do drawing realistic eyes. Realistic eyes require knowledge of shit like this:
>>2672889 Anime eyes are just abstract detailed patterns, which are very easy to draw once committed to memory.

Are you being intentionally dense or do you seriously not know what symbol drawing is? Either way you're just making yourself look more and more like an idiot.

use a soft airbrush to put some atmosphere in it and blur some of the harder lines so it looks less flat. super easy. you can do it.
>>
Are you trolling or really are this retarded?

Anime is extreme simplification of real life forms. Of course real life people are harder to draw as they contain more visual information with MEN containing bigger number than women.
You basically agreed with me and didn't even realize it.

Also you still haven't show those male studies.
>>
>>2673505
>>2673483
>>
>>2673505

Anime is an abstraction of real life. Copying it requires no understanding of anything, only flat shapes. You're making a false equivalency, it isn't relevant at all to what we're talking about.

>Of course real life people are harder to draw as they contain more visual information with MEN containing bigger number than women.

Real life is harder to draw because it requires an understanding of form and anatomy.

The flaw in your logic is in thinking visual information makes drawing more difficult.

Visual information is INFORMATION. It's a tool. It makes things EASIER to draw. It's more material you can reference. It's more material you can use to measure. It's more material you can use to define form. You can go in aggressive and shape a man's cheeks with hard lines to define the form of the head. You can't do that with a woman. A woman's forms have to be defined very delicately.

With both men and women you need to work in detail. The difference is with women you then have to reduce much more of that detail. It's the exact same concept as elderly vs infants, which is an artistic FACT.

I swear based on the bullshit you're spewing you haven't picked up a pencil in your fucking life. The misinformation you're spouting is not only wrong, it's downright dangerous to post in a /beg/ thread.
>>
>>2673517
>Copying it requires no understanding of anything, only flat shapes
That's wrong of course.
It's simplification, the shapes are closer to their base forms but everything is still based on real life.

And making it simplier makes it easier to grasp, reducing the details and complicated shapes allow s you to understand it faster and better.

The way you're talking about male studies make it seem like you symbol drawing them, that's why they appear easier to draw to you. Show them.

Looks flat imo, if I were you I'd try and imagine the form of the head as a square or sphere and square combination or however you can imagine it. And if you can't do that, then this explains the flatness. I'm just a beginner though. Also the line work is scratchy and thick. Try to understand the form before you attempt line art. At the very least the general structure. I still need to flesh out the lines a lot more, but before I do that I want to make sure that at the very least proportions are correct for the perspective that I am going for.

At least one thing I can identify that could change is the size of the head. For whatever reason, I keep on drawing them a little too small for the body that it is on. (The shoulders are supposed to be about 2 head widths if I remember correctly, and in this case it seems more like 2.5.)

probably just 'im obsessed with women sowhen i draw them i feel a need to make them perfect & sexy, causes me to be more anxious about making them, this nervousness causes worse work and less sure hands'
try and just remember that females don't need to be flawless and smooth and artificial looking any more than males

Other some weirdness from his face not lining up fantastically. You really need to work on pushing your darks. Maybe try using a wider brush and use fatter blots of grey when blocking your painting.

How do i draw female legs without making them look like flesh tubes attached to the pelvis?

They're not straight lines, but even if i give them curvature they still stick out as the ugly part of the drawing.

it's a bit of pencil then acrylics, some with a lot of water some not so much.

>>2675520
Depends on the angle or the lightning but you can give them volume just by adding shades to it ?

>>2675437
don't details on only the rendering part

>>2675209
It worked only for me but what i did to improve my shading was giving the shades a direction to follow, but i know people that onyl do messy shades and their drawings come out great.

Thanks!! Ill try again with another draw.

Uh I'm not sure what the previous guy meant but the circle isn't supposed to go past the outside of the skull
Also front of the face is wonky, the bottom of the jaw should be a flat line (in its simplest construction) instead of half of the jaw being connected to one side of the face and half to the other side
