>Google Pixel 2 shows up at the FCC with Android 8.0.1, Active Edge squeeze feature
Well, there goes buying that fucker. I'll never be able to get a case for it. Guess I'm getting the Pixel 1
>>
So will the Nokia 8 be good?
>>
>>61931987
Why's that? Wouldn't think the squeeze function prevents using cases, the HTC U11 has cases for it right?
>>
>>61932008
I've known two HTC U 11 users, both had cases.

Also, both people turned that shitty function off.
>>
Does Android O/8 have a built-in night mode filter?
>>
>>61932007
Hopefully yes. If the price leak was real it'll be priced slightly above 500€ which would make it competitively priced against phones like OP5 and Honor 9, and much cheaper than phones like iPhone 7, S8, Pixel etc.

>>
Waiting on Nokia 8 before deciding that or the Meizu Pro 7 plus.

Was kinda hyped for the Helio X30 but it seems to be able to keep up with the SD820...

Does the SD835 have much better single thread performance than the 821?
>>
>>61932224
My primary concern is emulator performance.

Thinking mainly PSP which runs well enough now but could be better, and possible GameCube in the future.
>>
>>61932033
But a case wouldn't prevent using the feature?

>shitty function
Eh, it's nothing groundbreaking but I could see it being handy. Have it open the camera or turn on the flashlight for example. At least it's reprogrammable and can be turned off unlike the Bixby-button on S8.
>>
>>61932224
>>61932243
If it's mainly for emulation then why not the OP5?
>>
Is lineage for mido stable?
>>
>>61932165
I agree. It was either the mi6 or the op5 for me. If the Nokia won't cost significantly more, it might fix the issues both of them had and will be perfect.
>>
I don't give a fuck if they switched to Android, not going to get burned by Nokia ever again.
>>
>>61932187
Meh

Not much for iPhones
>>
>>61932224
The SD835 has much better single threaded and multithreaded performance

Geekbench 4.1 single core scores for the 835 are in the mid 1900s range while for the SD820/821 they are in the 1700s

im currently using a LG X Power and it's fitting me well, I absolutely love the battery life as well it's a 4,000mah battery. Storage is good i want to say it came with 9GB of user storage, the only down side of this phone is there's no root available to remove bloatware even though the phone has been out for a year. Another downside is it randomly freezes and acts stupid at times but what can i say? It's a $100 phone and don't expect much for it. This is currently my backup phone but not sure what to get later on

I will be buying my first phone soon. I haven't kept up with smartphones and I'm not aware of what's good or bad anymore with so much variety. I am indecisive between Pixel XL and S8+. The Samsung because it has superior hardware, and the Google one because it has stock Android. How important is the OS in smartphones? Is TouchWiz UI and all the app suit still as bad as it once was? Should I even consider a botnet as a personal phone? Should I be waiting until October for Pixel 2? Thank you in advance for any kind of opinion.

Are screen protectors necessary?

On my S5, I noticed my screen protector got scratched really easily. One day, I decided to take it off. So after a few months without a screen protector, my screen had ZERO scratches. It looks as good as new, even though I always put my phone in the same pocket as my keys.

So anyone else go without a screen protector? Does your screen scratch up or not?

Which ROM should I flash on my Redmi Note 3 if I'm looking for stability and I don't care about customization?
Searching on XDA is terrible because of all the broken english and threads with little to no feedback.

Reposting from old thread because no responses.

So, is hardware degradation (hardware other than battery) still a thing or has that been mitigated with newer technology?
Can I expect my new phone to gradually become slower over time? I use it a lot for games and it tends to get mildly warm, but never uncomfortably hot unless I use it while it charges.
>>
>>61939283
Yes
>>
>>61939446
If you mean Android phones, then it depends. I mean, Samsung phones used to have HORRIBLE RAM management. I've had a Sony Z3 for a year and a half, and it runs as-new, despite the paltry 2GB RAM.

I don't know if Samsung phones have changed, but most mainstream phones with 3GB RAM with a Snapdragon 6 series CPU should be lag-free for as long as you own them.

But if you game, you'll want an 835 CPU. Just remember to clear the cache every so often.

All those phones should have a fairly competent camera to be honest.

I've got a Zuk Z2 Pro though if you're looking for camera samples. The camera has received a lot of updates since it came out.

Yup. I emulate PSP and n64 on it. Most PSP games run smoothly, the third birthday, dissidia, and FF IV for example. FF IV surprisingly maintains a greater than 50fps average most of the time. A few games are barely playable though, Naruto ultimate ninja heroes runs in the mid to low 20s fps range which is borderline for my and the stuttery audio kills the experience, and I had a friend with a 1+3t who couldn't run gangs of London on his phone smoothly despite having a slightly stronger SoC (SD820 VS 821).

N64, SNES, Gameboy, PS1, etc should all run better than PSP though. I have yet to test dolphin for GameCube though. Currently using an Ipega controller.

tl;Dr it works great for emulation with the exception of a few more demanding titles.

I mainly play on the way too and from work. An hour and a half commute of playing PSP games usually costs me around roughly 20 percent battery, maybe a tiny bit more. Around 50% brightness usually.

I'm using Stock ZUI but if performance is ever an issue there's an overclock got can apply which bumps up the SD820 to the same frequencies as the 821 while also favoring performance over battery life. When I did that, the battery life dropped to around only 4-ish hours SoT though.
>>
>>61942904
Overall I'm pretty happy with how my Z2 Pro turned out in camera, battery, and performance. For the price I mean.

What can you even do to reach that other than having seven bajillion apps or browser tabs open?
I only use browsers, Clover to shitpost, the occasional YT video and emulators. I close things down as soon as I know I won't use them for the time being. That's about the extent of "intensive" usage I do and I almost never have apps reloading.

hard call to make rn. S8 has far and away the best hardware but as someone who owns one it's not even possible to exaggerate how much Touchjizz blows. but the pixel is also so far behind in design and hardware that Sammy's bloated POS almost seems worth it in comparison, which is the problem.

IMO wait for pixel 2. As long as they make *some* improvements on the original design, pack an 835, and don't fuck up the camera it'll be golden.
>>
>>61943156
I'm literally using one right now.

You want me to use a dongle? This isn't 2004 anymore, I thought we'd progressed past that stage over 10 years ago. Why would you want to buy nonstandard and inferior technology?
>>
>>61936792
like the other anon said, it's pretty much golden hardware-wise, the only things to watch out for are a strictly mediocre camera (front and back), slower-ish print sensor, and last generation touchwiz (it still blows on the S8/Note FE, but it blows even harder on budget devices like the J series). It works and it's stuffed to the gills with features, but I guarantee you'll hate using it in less than a week.

depends on the phone. I own an S8 and figured "fuck that shit I never even put it remotely near something that could scratch it and it's Gorilla Glass" but in less than a week my screen started looking like someone left it with a toddler and a knife for an hour. Meanwhile my friend's iShill 6 is still looking like the day he bought it even though he's used it caseless, protectorless for 3 years.

ask around and see what other peoples' experience is to see if you'll likely need one.

google has not made any official statement on this yet and most of the credible leaks are also mum. given how hard they marketed the presence of a jack for the pixel 1, it would be borderline retarded to backpedal this soon (especially considering they don't stand to gain from non-3.5 audio accessories like Apple does).

Just a standard glossy screen protector because I managed to crack a corner of the screen (not big enough to justify a replacement and not on the screen so it doesn't bother me).

>Android
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Android,
is in fact, GNU/Android, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Android.
Android is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component
of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell
utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day,
without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU
which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are
not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Android, and these people are using it, but it is just a part
of the system they use. Android is jus ta layer: the set of UI and system libraries
that sit on top of GNU/Linux and provide things like window and app management.
The UI and libraries layer is an essential part of a mobile operating system, but
useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete mobile
operating system. Android is normally used in combination with the GNU operating
system: the whole system is basically GNU with Android added, or GNU/Android. All
the so-called "Andorid" OS is really just a distributions of GNU/Android.

>Helio X20
>32GB ROM

>3000mAh battery
>5.5 inch Full HD Display

Would this last me a year? Would the Helio X20 have sufficient single thread performance for PSP emulation?

Is the camera sufficient for point and shoot in daylight/indoors?

Has anyone here ever bought a phone off ebay, and if they have did anything bad happen like the imei get locked, or manufacturers not honoring warranty?

Just compare the specs and get the one that looks the best. Get something with a recent version of Android, 6.0 Marshmallow at minimum but 7.0 Nougat preferably. Resolution should be at least 1080p. 2gb RAM is pretty much a minimum requirement, 16gb storage is workable if there's a SD card slot but 32gb would be preferable. HDMI out is nice to have too.

I haven't owned any smartphone until now. If someone could please tell me if a pure Android OS is worth it over some other customized Android phone.
>>
>>61947736
It is, it will be the easiest to tinker around when you get used to it, most of the skinned os are quite bloated and bad
>>
My LG G6 keeps shutting off randomly and turning itself back on.

Is this some type of bootloop?
>>
Anyone have any clue about how the redmi note 5 might turn out? Is it worth waiting for it?
>>
>>61947756
Thank you for the quick reply, sir.
>>
>>61942561
The only problem with the Monoprice ones is that they get loose over time, but the Anker ones don't.

it says full lamination for the le2, but pajeet reviews shows the touch screen layer floats above it and flexes.

Is the Nokia 6 really that slower than the Moto g5+?
>>
>>61947963
The Nokia 6 has a 430 so it should be quite slower than the g5+
>>
>>61947963
Not a huge difference in regular phone use, games will lag more though
>>
>>61947993
>>61948014
I don't play games so I should be fine then?
I don want to pass on the build quality and regular updates
>>
>>61948044
For me 430 is unusable without turning the animations off, if you usage Is very light you might be able to use it
>>
>>61948044
you'll be fine.
but 14nm soc is more power efficient.
430 is still 28nm.
>>
>Requesting
I'm currently using blackberry z10 and im fking sick of it
i just want to use android applications to run smoothly
budget:150-200E
i was thinking something like:Xiaomi Redmi Pro
what are your opinions on xiaomi phones?
>>
>>61948044
Reviews say lag (ui and web browsing) is quite bad, because the SoC struggles with the screen's 1080p resolution.
>>
>>61948098
>>61948099
>>61948216
That seems bad

I've have a look at the Aquaris X since it's SD626 and apparently BQ has regular updates unlike nuMotorola

Just got my new Honor 9.

Whats up now? It's my first android phone, how can i maximize it?
>>
>>61948260
If you get the plus version you will definitely get android o
>>
>>61948349
Do you know for how long they realease security updates?
>>
Any suggestions for a max 5 inch phone that isn't too expensive? I was hoping for nokia to announce the nokia 7 but they just had to throw out the nokia 8. Would love to get the pixel but it's too expensive.
>german caliphate
>around 300 euros
>not too big (like the size of x compact but glossy plastic fucks it)
>>
>>61948389
You won't get those in anything apart from Nokia and pixle, Motorola I'll say a year an a half getting their popular phone means you'll get the updates longest
>>
>>61948423
HTC 10
>>
Fuck it, I'm buying a Pixel tomorrow. How much disappointment am I in for?
>>
>>61948349
the x version is the newest one, the x5 plus is older than the x.

>>61948389
They release security updates ever three months or so afaik, I can ask my mom when I see her again since she has the x5 plus. But they promise at least 2 major os updates for their phones. Their Android is also stock, only google apps, no bloat except for the one bq app for updates and shit.
>>
>>61948477
Do you mean to say s? Cause it won't matter they have the same internal
>>
I can upgrade from my galaxy s7 in like a month. Should I just keep using it or switch to something else? Kinda want something a little bit bigger
>>
>>61948543
s? I thougt anon was refering to the x5 plus instead of the x pro (which is basically the x just with a better camera).

x5 plus is the older one, x and x pro are the newest models.
>>
>>61948260
Good luck when it starts boot looping or just straight up breaking down completely.

Spainfag here. Fuck BQ. Fucking chinkshit tier phones.
>>
>>61948544
Tbh it's pretty much one of the best phones around still.

I'd keep it and would probably wait until you can get on the S8 or Note.
>>
>>61948581

>>

So they are far from being durable then

My first Android was a BQ Aquaris E5 4G.

I had to return it twice in the first 5 months because boot loop. Back then I didn't even root it or anything. It just fucked up on its own twice.

After that, one time I ran to the bus station and the phone had a crack on the screen. FROM THE INSIDE.

It wasn't an actual crash, it didn't fall, nothing. It had an internal crack. I'm guessing because of the heat? No fucking clue.

And when I called them they offered me a new E5 if I paid 150€. So I told them to shove it.

And after that I started working for Samsung at a retail store. I helped the BQ guys to shill their shit sometimes, but the amount of returns and refunds we had to give for those was ABSURD.

The M5 2015 had a 90% RMA rate.

90 fucking percent RMA rate.

The X is lower, but it still gets returned because they talk about it like they're selling a cheaper S7, and the quality is just not there. They're good if you're planning to upgrade before a year.

Not in my experience. I have a Moto G5 which has very similar specs to the Nokia 6 (SD430, 3GB RAM, 1080p) and most of the time it's very smooth in normal use, only the occasional lag but nothing big. Hearthstone and Pokemon Go are a bit laggy though.

I'm not working there anymore, and the numbers we got were from 2016. Yes, the whole year.

But I do remember it's launch being very successful and then having an average of a third of the phones that went out coming back.
>>
>>61948793
>my snapdildo 801 is faster
I'm not disputing that, just saying that at least in the Moto G5 the SD430 is enough for a (mostly) smooth experience, outside gaming. Which I'm perfectly happy with because I have a tablet for that.
>>
>>61948703
jelly screen is an issue reported by a minority of users, no microSD is indeed a letdown but for me not in any way a dealbreaker, really don't care about looks, as long as it isn't garbage.
is there anything else i should be aware of?
>>
What specs does an android need to be any good nowdays? Quite fast to open apps, watsapp, maybe play Heartstone and watch youtube and netflix, a lot of the time used at work for googlemaps.

Is 1.3Ghz and 2Gb ram slow? Was thinking about getting a cheap chink phone for less than 200€ preferably could go a bit higher if theres a good reason for it. More than 16Gb storage would be nice too. EUfag
>>
>>61950886
Honestly RAM seems to be quite a bottleneck in my opinion, pic is a Zenfone 2 (Z00A) running LineageOS. It runs fast despite the old processor.
