My LG G2 slipped from my pocket onto the ground and it died after 3 good years. Looking for a new phone and thinking about A5. Here's what I want from a new smartphone so I'd like a recommendation if there's something better than A5 for the same price (similar dimensions to G2 as well, please)

At least as good as G2 in terms of:
>screen
>CPU
>GPU
>internal storage
>RAM
>camera
>battery

Other things:
>IP67 or 68
>fingerprint scanner
>at least "ok-ish" xda support

What is the battery life after 2 years on a moto device(or any similar budget phone) typically? I got a Moto G5 plus, and I want to ideally make it last for like 4 years while still running decently.
>>
>>61869478
My big bro has a Moto X Pure and I've heard him say the battery is crapping out after around 2 years (?) of getting it.
I recently got a G4 Play and I'm hoping it lasts for a good while since I almost religiously try to charge my phones as healthily as possible, and it's also the only G4 model with a replaceable battery. Bad thing is I don't know if replacements that aren't chink bombs are sold at all.

Hey /g/, lurker here

So here's what happened today:

In the beginning of practice in the locker room, I dropped my Oneplus One from my locker, and the screen shattered. For the roughly one and a half years I've had this phone, it has never happened. I've dropped this on concrete, asphalt, hardwood, you name it. For some reason it finally shattered on the locker room floor, even though it fell on it's back.

Now, I can turn on the phone, and it can turn on, see/get notifications, etc, except for one thing: the touch screen doesn't work. Now, I'm figuring I could buy a screen replacement off Amazon and fix it myself, but I do have other options.

>1 : Buy a screen replacement, fix it myself. I would need recommendations on what to look out for, and where to find ones that aren't shit quality.
>2 : Buy a new phone, I've been thinking about it anyways. I would need recommendations
>3 : Go to a mall kiosk thing and let them replace it. I have no idea if they can/will, and I have no idea what the pricing is.

I love my OPO, I've had it for a while. I really like cyanogenOS, as I've tried Oxygen OS, but it's a piece of crap that doesn't even compare. I also have a lot of data files and pictures stored that I really don't want to have to migrate. I have practice on Monday and I want it to be ready by then, but if I replace it myself that probably isn't happening. My friends also have streaks with me on snapchat so I'll need one of my friends to cover for me, and I don't want to inconvenience them too much.

Again, it's just the touch screen that doesn't work, everything else basically does. What should I do /g/?
>>
>>61870402
Try pulse, no ads, material design. Idk what /g/ thinks of it
>>
>>61870501
What the hell is a snapchat streak and why is your banal ass so worried about it?
>>
>>61869318
Well I fucking hope they fix this shit. Audio cuts and stutters from time to time, also connection is pretty shit once you're father than 3m from the phone, be behind a door and you'll get stutters every few seconds. Some people also report disconnecting and shit but I haven't experienced it myself. The glitches on audio are fucking annoying though, I've been mostly listening to audiobooks since I got this phone.
>>
>>61870402
Anything that doesn't use ads nor depends on GSF. Pick one: VLC, Vanilla Player, Audio Vision, AIMP.

Can someone explain to me what the point is in all these bloated amounts of RAM and resolutions that are being put into phones nowadays?
I've been using a quad-core 2Gb RAM phone and I simply can't picture how any extra performance could benefit me. Any hiccup it has is borderline inconsequential, and opening apps is pretty much instant.
I open a pretty heavy 3D game, switch to Youtube, open Clover, open the gallery, open a GBA emulator and leave it on the background, and they stay in memory. Switching is responsive, they don't have to reload, and I'm left wondering what the rest of memory and processing power could be used on. Not to mention, I have to really squint to notice the pixels on a 5" 720p screen already. Yet I see these phones with 2K screens and 6+ Gbs of RAM, and I don't understand what those specs could ever be used on.
Am I missing something? I don't use social media. Is that it? Are all social apps bloated garbage?

Chinese phones like to put in a shitzillion gigabytes of RAM because they're still stuck in the mentality of having as much free RAM as possible; combined with the lack of GCM in China means all their apps have to use their own push notifications and background services implementations which takes up RAM and sucks up battery, hence you see Chinese OEM ROMs all come with "RAM cleaner" meme
>>
>>61876807
Shoulda waited for the new one. The earpiece is early technology and it's too quiet with background noise present.
>>
>>61873741
Xperia won't turn laggy on you, but it's already a year old; though Sony is pretty good about regular updates it will run out its guaranteed update period faster, on the other hand Samsung is pretty shitty about giving regular updates to its non-flagships even within the guaranteed update period.
>>

I'm stupid and I don't know what GCM or OEM mean.

GCM is Google Cloud Messaging, basically a single channel that all apps can use for their push notifications to wake up the device once in a while instead of dozens of apps all having their own push services eating up RAM and battery. For obvious reasons, does not work in China.

OEM = original equipment manufacturer, i.e. the stock ROM
>>
Should I just go ahead and get a Blackberry Classic for a hundred bucks?

Is BB1O still getting updates?

I've used BB before and liked it.
>>
>>61877254
So what I gather from this is chink phones pretty much need the inflated amounts of RAM to not choke on the just as inflated ROMs they use because "lol China"?
I'm guessing this is bypassed by custom ROMs so the hardware is put to better use, but I don't really know.
In my case I'm using a Moto, so even with those low specs it's still a very smooth experience due to the near mint ROM. RAM usage almost never goes past 1GB, and when it has it's been because of me purposely pushing it to see how much I could get away with before it starts reloading running apps, something which I actually haven't been able to force to happen yet.
I'd say 3GB is already plenty for high-end devices, I frankly have no idea what could fill up 4GB and onwards of RAM or use 8 processing cores. At that point, I think whatever you might be doing, you might as well do it on a computer.

China phones' battery life measures are very aggressive about cleaning apps out of RAM, one complaint about Xiaomi phones is they can have as much as 6GB of RAM built in but MIUI doesn't want to use more than about 3GB of it before it starts killing apps out of memory. They pretty much have to do it or badly written Chinese apps start eating all the power.
>>
>>61877518
It's not the ROMs that are bloated, it's the apps intended for the Chinese market.
>>
Ok here's my situation. Currently own a Lg K4, got it as a present and been using it for almost a year, the thing is it freeze when im texting or the keyboard goes wild and puts letters im not pressing. The battery doesnt last too long and it heats pretty quick.

Im looking to buy a new phone in the next month or two and plan to keep at for at least two or three years. So I've done some research and this is what caught my attention:

Huawei P9 Plus
Huawei P10
Samsung A5 (2017)
Oneplus 3T
Xiaomi Redmi note 4

Im looking for a phone that has great battery, decent camera for when the occasion requires it (i.e. family gathering, nothing fancy im not a socialmedia guy), and that lets me have multiple apps running (a.k.a whatssapp, youtube, clover, xbrowser, uber, music app) without over heating so quickly.

i would appreciate any help since I dont know that much about phones, either about the phones I listed before or any recomendations is ok.

Oh and my budget goes from $350 to $550 I can spend a bit more but would prefer not to.

G4 Play, because I'm poor.
Unless you mean the older one, but probably not.

Is that so? I'm guessing devices have been smart enough for a while to know when to stop cramming energy into the battery and instead use the incoming current as the main power source.
I was reading that the optimal thing to do is keep the charge between around 40-80% though, which is news to me. I was under the impression that it was better to perform full charges - and never short spurts - after it got below around 20%, but that goes to show what I know.

128GB Pixel for 929 AUD. Should I grab it now or wait until the 2 is out and hope the price isn't insane?

Sorry if this is a bit off-topic but I need help choosing a case for my OP3T which will arrive soon.
from what I've seen the most popular choices are
Otterbox
Spigen Rugged Armor
Spigen Neo-Hybrid

If I'm going of purely whatever is the best protection, which one should I choose?

i downloaded the unofficial xposed for my zte axon 7 lineage os 7.1.2 and i started having problems so i decided to remove it via the xposed installer, i used the correct uninstalller but after reboot im not stuck in a continuous boot. It's juts keeps on booting. Last time i had the problem i re-installed gapps and that worked. But in this case, it is not working. I re-installed magisk as well but it's still just booting. I can boot into recovery and stuff..

I'm getting a bit tired of the LG G3 I have currently.

What are the most decent phones lately that hover around the 400-500 mark max?

I'd like it to have a headphone jack, USB C, A fingerprint reader (On the back if possible), Good battery life, NFC, IR blaster (if possible), Removable battery (If possible), and an SD card (If possible).

Anything that about marks these things?
I live in The Netherlands.

I've looked at the LG V20, and it's the closest thing to what I really love and like, but it's impossible to get here, I've also looked at ZTE Axon 7, that looks like a decent choice.
