Adguard is the best since it has cosmetic filters, it also has the best lists.

you can just deactivate the filtering for your straming app and it will work.

for root users you can use the local http proxy if you don't want to use the vpn.

What the fuck do I buy if I care about security?

I've been using Android full-time for seven years now and it's still a shitshow in every way, especially security. It's actually gotten worse since Google started railroading everyone into using their proprietary shitware. I wouldn't even mind proprietary shitware that much - I like iOS - but Google's is absolutely atrocious and the other Android OEMs are even worse. My current phone is a Sony and the only Sony app that doesn't deserve the firing squad treatment is the camera. Also, it's three years old, which makes it one year too old to get any support from Sony - my options are running Android with a 2016 patch level or running LineageOS, which is broken in all sorts of interesting ways on anything that isn't a Nexus 5X.

I want a phone with good to excellent camera and headphone audio quality. I'd like it to not have any known bizarre issues like bootloops (hello LG), radio issues (hello Asus), overheating, GPS lag and so on. If it must be an Android phone, I'd like it to run LineageOS without any bizarre undiagnosable bugs or lost functionality.

I'm currently a poorfag and my budget is $500 or so if I'm pushing it.
A new iPhone 6 costs $510 here. I don't like the iPhone SE very much but it's around $440, which is somewhat more manageable. Newer iPhones are way2expensive for me.
As for Blackberries, a Priv is $370, a Classic is around $320 and a Passport is around $270 for some reason. Would one of those be worth it?

What would you recommend, /spg/?
>>
>>61951604

ATTENTION SWEDES

With Tele2 you can get a Huawei P10 silver/black 64GB for only 3194SEK. Just order a P10 with monthly payment 499SEK/month for 6 months. You will need to pay some bullshit fee for 200SEK so the first bill is 699SEK. After you get your first bill you can just ask customer service to pay for the rest of the months if you just wanna do it directly so total cost will be 3194SEK for the whole phone.

Its like half price buying it from any other store. Feel free to jew Huawei locally.

Hi /spg/, is there any site that has charts like pic related for smartphone manufacturers? Something that clearly shows the release and production dates, how the phone ranks from entry-level to high end, and optionally showing some more common features with meta-formatting (eg. waterproof).

I hate smartphones and I have no fucking clue about them, but my Nexus 4 (which I got as hand-me-down in the first place) is going to shit more and more every day so I want to make an educated choice when picking a replacement.

Bonus question - anywhere that will explain to me like to a child which smartphone CPUs and GPUs are better than the others and why?

As Eurofriend living in America now I'm tempted to wait for Nokia 8 but the battery capacity worries me. It seems the lowest out of the few models on my radar, and I've fucking had it with the shit battery in Nexus 4.

That's like saying "buy a calculator instead of a computer". I'd happily be using my Nokia 6300 still if it was practical, but it's not.

As I said I have Nexus 4 that I got for free and I know what I want from a new smartphone, but with the amount of models on the market, the number of bullshit paid reviews, and even greater number of useless reviews from clueless users and/or pajeets, I'm having a hard time finding a reliable starting point and resource to educating myself and making an educated choice. Also it seems that by the time that actual thorough and objective tests for a model come out, the model is already obsolete and no longer available first-hand.

It's just fucking frustrating when all I want is a solid reliable device that will last me the next few years, unlike a lot of people who seem to flip between phones every 6 fucking months.

That's the problem with reading specs on paper only, my wife's phone is Nexus 6P and while it does sound good in theory (except for size, I prefer a tad smaller) then in real it feels and handles like shit, to me anyway. And it has that shitty issue with the battery which no specs sheet or review will tell you about.

Eh, I'll probably wait for early hands-on reviews of Nokia 8 and decide after trying out a real one in store. Failing that, Moto Z2 Play is my second choice right now.

keeping up with the smartphone world is futile. find a solid phone with a stable OS that you don't have to fuck with too much and stick with it until it's not viable. blackberry 10 phones still work great, have some really wonderful native apps, run most android apps (except for ones that require official google services to function), and are cheap as fuck. even the passport is affordable for a teenager on minimum wage now.

Huezilian here. What's /g/'s opinion about the Galaxy A5 2017?

I currently have a Moto E 2nd gen (2015), which has a good battery life and decent mod support, but its 1GB RAM is too small for multitasking nowadays. It's a VERY reliable phone, though.

I was considering the G5 plus (999 BRL), A5 (1167 BRL) and S7 (1610 BRL).
The S7's battery life is too short, though.

How long until we get the bezel less phone we all want from Meizu?
>>
>>61962096

Sister has the Meizu X, it's actually a really nice phone.

Am considering the Pro 7 plus, just waiting to explore more options before dropping the dosh on an upgrade.

asked this yesterday, i'm thinking about getting a OP5
this jelly screen effect seems to be reported kind of inconsistently, some people have it and some don't. anyone here have one and can give some insight?
>>
>>61962197
The screen is mounted upside down, every OP5 got it. It's just that some don't notice kinda like some people think touchwiz is smooth.

>post a mini-review of your phone
>bought blackberry passport in 01/16 for 330€
>really like buildquality, fast os, fast typing, no bloatware
>no google out of the box but can install google stuff
>get asked about it regularly, good way to start conversation

>dropped it countless times, getting "old and used" feeling >looked for new, cheap phone, saw blackberry priv is only ~200€ (from 600€ when I got the passport)
>new blackyberry keyone is currently 600€, like it better a bit better than the priv but don't want to pay that much

Is there a better phone for 200€? If I switch to android anyways I may not stick to blackberry even to I love the physical keyboard. Will the keyone's price go down over 50% in a year, too?

If you're upgrading from a fucking sidekick anything has a decent camera and high res screen.

Cancer-Developers is unfortunately your best bet: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5
There are apparently multiple (six?) completely different phones all called the "Galaxy S5", so you'll need to figure out which is yours. See the About Phone menu to get your model number.

For TWRP (recovery), search for "galaxy s5" on https://twrp.me/Devices/ and try to figure out which one of those is yours.
The most likely one is klte, see https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxys5qualcomm.html for a list of model numbers and the abridged "how to into Odin" guide.

For LineageOS:
If your model is G901F or G906S/K/L see https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development/rom-lineage-os-samsung-galaxy-s5-lte-t3534283
If your model is G900H (my condolences) see https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/galaxy-s-5-android-development-exynos/7-1-xsm-g900h-unofficial-lineageos-14-1-t3653914
Otherwise (for klte) see https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/unified-development/rom-cyanogenmod-14-0-galaxy-s5-android-t3476433
All LineageOS threads should have installation guides.

These are literally the only non-shit sub 5" models on the market. Is demand that low for that segment?
>>
>>61962870
Pretty much everyone who doesn't want a big screen also wants an iPhone, so yeah
>>
>>61962315
Does the Passport even fit in a normal pocket? I'm thinking about buying one, they're practically dirt cheap for some reason.
>>
>>61962926
>dirt cheap
Probably because they dropped support for the native whatsapp-app recently so you have to run the normal android api+waa fix which isn't well integrated, it's just like on normal android phones. It's also 3 years old I think and blackberry announced they won't update it anymore.

>does it fit in a pocket
Yes, in both suit-pants-pockets and normal jeans. Don't know if it is less comfortable than other phones while sitting down since I empty out my pockets when is sit down for longer.

/g/entoomen, i'd like your advice

a phone that can take a hit
i have a bad temper when it comes to electronics, i've already smashed 3 phones over the course of 18 months
>Lumia 920 froze and i couldnt restart it or remove the battery, threw it on the concrete
>chinkphone vkworld v800x lost signal during an very important phone call, lost it and threw against a wall
>Lumia 535 has the shittiest keyboard i've ever used and keeps autocorrecting the wrong words no matter how i set it up, already threw it multiple times, has a cracked screen but still werks

I've had a OnePlus one after these phones, but that one died out of unknown reasons (wouldnt power on one random morning)

Now i bought a Nokia 3 out of impatience, but the microphone doesnt work
It's currently being repaired under warrenty, but im feeling buyers remorse (since the repair will most likely take 4 weeks ffs)

Im considering a ''rugged'' phone so that it can withstand some of my rage issues, since im sick of buying new phones evey so often

I'm currently looking a t a used Cat S30, its €180, which is a ripoff for such an old phone, but whatever

Any advice on buying on of these?
i know samsung's rugged phones are crap, and so are most chinkphones that claim to be

i dont really care about android 5, i just want a phone that i can call on, use whatsapp on and have firefox focus on for news reading

That one reminds me of those samshit rugged models, see pic
They are incredibly weak, i used to have one on my worksite
they were just as fragile as any smartphone, only had some thicker plastic

The cat seems to be actually rugged and can take a blow

the only reason i own a smartphone is for instant messaging, kinda a necessity nowadays

If there was a ''dumbphone'' with 2g support and whatsapp or line i might even take it
>>
>>61963271

They have absolutely no plans on refreshing the SE. So at least the phone won't suddenly plummet in value
>>
>>61963280
It's been reported as being fairly durable, but the S10 and s30 look more so.

There's also the Oukitel k10000 max which is extremely durable but also has a 10000mAh battery
>>
>>61948878
Riddle me this:

Are there any smartphones without a hardware or software backdoor?
>>
>>61963318
The NOMU doesnt look to flimsy according to some video's
im not quite convinced but ill keep it in mind
The oukitel looks good tho, im keeping an eye on it

i'd prefer a non chink phone tho, im still fighting over a refund with banggood since february (Bluboo Edge had malware in the stock launcer, they never confirmed that they recieved it, even tho my carrier confirmed its delivered)

iPhones are your best bet, what with the US governent constantly complaining that they can't get into all these locked iPhones they find.
A single iOS exploit was worth about $1.5m on the gray market last I checked, and that's if you don't negotiate.

>>61963558

>>61963590
>implying BlackBerry can't get into your phone with a court order
At least Apple will try to say no.
>>
>>61963423
In addition to what's said, in the upcoming version of iOS you can tap power button 5 times to disable fingerprint. So nobody can force unlock your phone.
>>
>>61963758
Naturally, this won't stop US customs from detaining you for a few days with no outside communication while you reevaluate the importance of keeping your phone locked.
>>
>>61963793
You're stupid if you're not prepared to have your phone searched upon entering the US.

Besides,
>a few days with no outside communication
it's how I live already.

I've had a Note 4 basically since release and I've never really done much with it. I mean I use it like mad but I've not done a clean re-install the whole time, nor really looked at CFW etc.

So I've decided it's time to fix this shit up. Any reccommended CFW for the Note? Ideally something that still lets me use the stylus.
