In Nightly they added a "density" setting that allows you to make firefox bigger or smaller and the color schemes from the former compact themes were added to the theme menu. You can use the default colors and make firefox bigger/smaller or you can use the light/dark theme and keep the default sizes.

To be honest, I gave up web browsers a long time ago. I just use Chrome now. Most websites are designed with Chrome or Safari in mind, the syncing "just works" without duplicating hundreds of bookmarks or deleting them spontaneously, RAM stopped being an issue for me a while ago, and at this point the majority of people writing extensions are doing so for Chrome's model and not Firefox's.

I'm glad Firefox is around to provide an alternative, but frankly, it's just not for me anymore.

>I'm glad Firefox is around to provide an alternative, but frankly, it's just not for me anymore
Yes

I've used Firefox since the beta way back in around 1999-2000, my first two years of med school. I was using Netscape Navigator at the time but its development and improvement had already become somewhat stagnant. Firefox was a beta thing being passed around from one geek to another, and it eventually made its way to my geeky pc. I've used Firefox proudly ever since, and I've become very comfortable with tinkering under its hood. I'm sad to say that Firefox is bloated now. It feels bloated. It no longer feels fast and quick. And me, who tinkers under the hood, I find so much more nonsense that I have to turn off to maintain some privacy and speed. It's like this browser is trying to kill itself off.

Anyway, I'm back to those late 90's early 2000's, looking for the next new browser to emerge. I've been experimenting with every browser I can find, hoping to finally drop Firefox once and for all.

Every discussion about Fx 57 people keep spamming how fast it is. But how will a slight speedup matter if you're also going to slow down the user?
I believe that computers are here to do work for us. The WebExtension API causes a serious regression in terms of how the computer can optimize the time I spend using it.
On top of that people have made questionable decisions in the past and used "an extension could revert this" as part of the justification. I'm fine with them either doing things correctly or letting me fix it. But now that has been taken away.

I don't use software that fights against me, even if it would make web pages load instantaneously.

Thanks for the forgiving reply even though I'd obviously not read anything in the thread prior.

I hope this means userstyles for Brave, because currently it's all I use Firefox for (besides screenshotting webpages), and the userstyles are currently broken since this update. I can enable it in addons, but it turns youtube purple (should be black), and soundcloud seems to not change at all...
>>

Sorry to use your post for a non sequitur like this, but a while ago I read that Stylish (the addon that enables userstyles) sold out and sells your private data, or something now or will soon:

https://archive.rebeccablacktech.com/g/thread/58317363

So apparently (according to the thread) you're supposed to use this or similar to use userstyles:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/stylrrr/

But I both forgot and was too lazy, so if they're harvesting info right now I've been giving it to them for free for I dunno how long. Just wanted to spread awareness for anyone else in the same boat as me.

There's still the "overflow" menu which I believe still has all of the options of grid menu from australis, only difference is that it's a 1D vertical list now rather than 2D grid.

A fixed menu layout allows you to memorize the layout of the menu so you can find the options faster. That's probably why they went back to a fixed layout as standard

Does nightly now force you to use webextensions? What about firefox beta?
>>
Is there a webextension for vertical tabs that isn't shit?
The regular tabs can't be hidden without manually tweaking a CSS file.
Even then the sidebar that's apparently the only way to display vertical tabs always starts closed.
Even after manually opening the sidebar it doesn't remember that I had tabs, not bookmarks in it last time.

Then after manually switching it to display tabs they don't even use up the entire height of the window. There's this giant header on the sidebar itself that just says "Tabs" and has a close button that I'll never use.
It also displays below the navigation bar. Great, let's give the address bar an extra 170px when it has hundreds of pixels it uses for nothing.
Want to open a bookmark or history sidebar and drag stuff between it and the tabs? Fuck you you can't even have two sidebars open at once.

I haven't even mentioned how the tabs themselves are only like a shell of the real ones, with fake menus and functionality that I use daily just gone.

No. It flags addons that aren't going to be compatible in the future but you can still use them for now.
>>
>>61744584
Forgive my ignorance but this sounds like a good change to me. Am I wrong (I probably am)?
>>
>>61745241
Overall it's an improvement but it has a few problems right now at least. Currently the APIs that are exposed to addon developers aren't completed yet so there may be functionality missing that some addons may need. It's also likely that some addons will just never be supported in their current form because what they require isn't justifiable for Mozilla to support. These addons will either be dropped or they'll have to be re-imagined in another form that isn't as extensive.

>botnet doesn't really bother me since I'm not doing anything illegal

Let me ask you a few direct questions, friend. You do know that everything you do on the internet is forever, right? How sure are you that what you do and have already done won't be deemed illegal in the future? How do you know that what you do and have done won't become public information and considered a liability by your future employer or loan officer? Are you willing to gamble your one and only life on the quality and permanence of the federal government and the laws of the land?

I'll leave you with this thought — "If you aren't doing anything wrong, you have nothing to hide." is the loudest and clearest indication of a trap set by an authoritarian state planning to expand its legal authority over the citizenry. Caveat emptor, my friend.

are you new?
that green color signifies TLS...
>>
>>61746429
my statement still stands. how fucking spooked are you about this and why??
>>
Why would you willingly run an unsafe browser?
>>
>>61746471
Yeah, but it's dark green + black isn't a good contrast.
Light green / blue / orange would be better.
>>
>>61746494
>spooked?
You haven't provided anything to be "spooked" about shill.

Nice try though. ;)
You personally sound spooked by firefox considering you don't use it but you need to post here!

If you didn't care you wouldn't waste your time in this thread.

Stay spooked.
>>
>>61746498
I agree.
Don't use stable update to Nightly to stay secure and sandboxed.
>>
>>61727688
Seamonkey perform better than equivalent firefox versions. Specially in video related stuff. I get more fps. H H o/

If anyone is spooked here, it's you.

FF 57 is fast as fuck and will only get faster, on top of beating Chrome with quality addons.

You're shitting on the addon problem now, but you know that soon, it won't be a problem.

And you're scared. You're terrified.

>>
Its fucking cash. Just updated from the stable branch and I think I'll stay on nightly until something fucks up. The updated UI is slick and the CSS grid inspector is a nice. Pretty soon I'll never need to use bootstrap cancer ever again

Nigga of course if you have no ram it will try to run on your shitty hardware, big news Sherlock. Try running it on a modern desktop.

I am not even fucking lying.
1) Get a normal desktop. No, not a fucking potato that the chinks sell for 10$.
2) Run Firefox ESR (version ~36 or whatever, something without e17)
3) Run Firefox current (with e17)

Install a few addons, open a few pages, check RAM usage.
> old version: ~500MB with 10-50 tabs, it's fucking A.
> current: ~1200-2000MB, ram usage always doubled but it is usually even a lot more than double

Even if I do provide evidence, it is possible you experience another results. Try Seamonkey and get results by yourself. After all, is that kind of results the more important for anyone. XOXO

You've posted this multiple times daily.
It's easy to identify you because you name everything the same.

Stop being butthurt and trying to associate something that isn't there.

It's a butane flame.

If all you care about is addons be happy that webextensions will be plentyful because opera and chrome adopted them too.
>>
>>61747033
Well then, I can just use Chromium/Opera/Vivaldi or even Edge?
Back to point 1. What's the point?
Like I have the same thing over and over again, except it's slower.
SO WHY?!
>>
>>61747056
It's already been mentioned in this thread multiple times and every thread that you make.

Clearly you are a dumb negroid for even suggesting edge and vivaldi so why waste the time to explain?
>>
>>61747092
well, no one explained it (or you forgot to link it?).
so please, link me one from the archive then.
since it's... """always explained""", mr. powerful white power guy.
>>
>>61747105
Stop playing stupid.
Literally every thread including this one.

Chromium = binary blobs
Opera is a weak chrome clone
Vivaldi and Edge are both proprietary

Chromium can't be shipped on linux natively because of this unlike firefox.

You wouldn't know that though because you use windows.

>inb4 ungoogled-chromium which is basically abandonded at this point with 12 commiters who are doing it for a school project

Is there any way to get rid of the extra title bar on linux (KDE) and have CSD?
