how does the build quality between the different K7XX (and the actual K7XX model) differ?

I'm interested in getting a decent AKG headphone for once (i want to stay in mid-fi hell for a bit longer) because the ones I got on a whim, pic related, are on ears and I never knew how shitty those are until I wore full-sized headphones.

Tempted between K7XX, K702, and the K712. I've read comparisons online about the sound, but not much about their build quality which I am more concerned about. K7XX and K712 both have the same superior earpads so I'm guessing I can't just assume that K7XX has the worst build quality and that the K712 has the best. Heck, do they all have the same general quality?

K702 are bright. K712/K7XX are dark. K612 are balanced/neutral. I'd recommend a Magni 2 for them at the minimum, though.

I'm using an HD600 with my onboard audio, a Gigabyte Gaming 3 AB350, but when I increase the amp level on it the bass gets out of control. On the highest setting it's ridiculously prominent. Are my ears just sensitive to bass or is this just what amps do? Or is the amp in my mobo just shit?

Maybe. HD600 really deserve a Magni 2 IMO. https://hifimediy.com/sabre-dac-uae23 into the Magni 2 with a 3.5mm stereo to RCA stereo cable would be a good, affordable setup.
http://alkasar.online.fr/mesures/HifiMeDIY%20SABRE%2024-96%20DAC%20v1.htm are measurements of the DAC, showing that Modi is essentially overpriced.
>>
>>61329983
even the K712 is made in Slovakia now. Everything else is made in China.

I wonder if I should even bother with AKG nowadays. The K7XX are still tempting because the headband and earpads look superior to the K612. Though really, it's the detachable cable alone that would sell me to the K7XX even if it's slightly more expensive.
>>
>>61329901
No. HD598 is almost the same (supposedly the same if you foammod) as your HD558.

Now that I look at the DAC response more it looks closer to 0.2 than 0.25. It's also only 0.2 dB at 20 Hz and 20 kHz, both of which are almost never represented in music as fundamental tones. The DAC is audibly flat.
>>
>>61330243

What's a clear all-around upgrade from the Sennheiser momentum 1 over-ear? They were nice for acoustic stuff like Jazz and indie rock and soundtracks, but they're not really doin' it for me for more cluttered, electronic stuff and trash anime music.

I don't need a tier above, I just want something more versatile, while still being somewhat portable and convenient.
>>
>>61330289
The trap there is that the damage to the signal is cumulative. It doesn't only happen in the DAC, but everywhere in the chain. All damage is bad, as it all does contribute to the whole. The DAC not being ruler flat is a pretty bad start.
>>
>>61330144
It's important to note, for the purposes of this specific conversation, that this blind test is using 440 Hz tones. >>61330289 shows us that it will be much easier to detect X dB difference between tones at 440 Hz than between tones at 20 Hz or 20 kHz, the only frequencies which the DAC deviates in frequency response by ~0.2 dB.
I'd be significantly surprised if anyone can reliably pass the 0.2 dB test at 440 Hz. I'd bet my left nut that nobody could do so at 20 Hz or 20 kHz.

It's definitely not going to be audible through a Magni 2 using pure fucking 20 Hz and 20 kHz tones, and it's going to be 100x as inaudible when listening to actual music. I've seen a lot of autistic shit in /hpg/ but complaining about +/- 0.1 dB frequency response in a DAC, with the only deviations coming at 20 Hz and 20 kHz, I think, absolutely takes the cake. Completely ridiculous.
>>
>>61330450
Not to mention that most likely you can't even hear the 20 kHz frequency and I have my doubts about 20 Hz because at that point it's basically vibration

I would think the pads would degrade and wear quicker unless you're legit running a steady, heavy flow of sweat like a sink.

I owned KSC75 "kramer modded" (more holes in the plastic grill) and with plantronics donut pleather pads in place of the stock pads (big hole in the middle) and I noticed condensation beads building up on the diaphragm due to my perspiration. But it was quite exposed and hot as hell. IDK if that's worth considering.

I dont really visit /hpg/ that much (/mu/tant)
So the other day my father called me in the night to tell me that he decided to gift me something for my birthday which was like 12 days ago, I frequently never ask for gift in my birthday for personal reasons but he has called like 5 times already, I told him I wanted a record player but he told me that those were for faggots so I don't think he likes the idea.
So as a last resort I was thinking of asking him headphones.
I don't think he will buy something higher than 75 bucks.
I'm not looking for earbuds or shit like that.
I want shit that sound good.

Is there any better. Again I don't care about bluetooth. Just want something nice to listen to that I won't have to replace every 2 months. So detachable cable is a must for me.

Previous suggestions gives was ZS5 but i'm not looking for earphones. Oneodio Yenona Studio Pros BUT $15 shipping charge so can't these and Superlux HD668B BUT that hanging male port looks dangerous. IMO destroys the whole idea of detachable cable. So don't mention these.

At this point it's safe to assume the following:
- HD600 have excellent bass extension and 30 Hz is generally going to be even with 1 kHz after measurement compensation;
- Measurements which show more severe bass rolloff than these are almost certainly poorly-sealed measurements;
- Beyershills are eternally BTFO

I just got the Fidelio X2 for pretty cheap and have noticed a slight clip when played at max volume on my computer, despite the overall sound being relatively low: for instance, around the 23:35 mark on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVW7JYhb4dg&list=PL3UZpQL9LIxMihBRi-CqYFrQR3wp08Bjq

What can be causing these clipping noises? I'm using the sound card integrated on the mobo; I'd consider an audio card, but the GPU clogs all PCIe ports save for the one I use for the wifi card.

InnerFidelity isn't an accurate source for measurements. They use the ID target curve, which is absolute garbage, the measurements aren't consistent with other websites and the distortion measurements aren't accurate as they've got random spikes.

Alright, so it'd seem it's the back panel jack outlet that's not working correctly; I plugged it on the front and it's working wonders.

What the fuck is going on? Shouldn't the back panel be, in fact, a bit better sounding, it coming straight out of the mobo? My case isn't even a good one.

No. USB audio interfaces are better.
>>
>>61337412
You need to tell what are the speakers doing in that connection. Some speakers offer only a passtrough, making no difference (some work even with the speakers turned off) other apply amplification to the output (shitty ones mostly).

You can connect to the computer. People usually play games in laptops like that. But a high end phone would need an amplifier.
>>
>>61337767
the sony MDR7506 seem pretty sturdy (and basic, which may or may not be your thing) especially considering they're foldable headphones at this price range. Earpads are awful though and feel like on-ear ones. Needs to be replaced with larger ones from the start.

noise isolation is meh. It's pretty compact.
>>
>>61337864

I've been using a pair of audio technica ad700x for years but the cable on them broke yesterday and the right speaker no longer works

I'm gonna try to find someone to fix them but I wanna get some new headphones in the meantime

Recommend me some good headphones with open design and neutral sound that are comfortable for extended periods of time

I listen to, play and record virtuoso guitar oriented music

I'm in eastern yurop and I don't wanna spend over 200 yuros

If you don't have a DAC/amp combo already, AKG K612 and DAC X6
>>
>>61337847
>>61337864
What kind of DAC is recommended for headphones of this price range/this one in particular? I use this PC for mixing and mastering shitty trailer music aside from normal usage.

Also, what could be causing the back panel to work like shit? I had the MDR V6 and 7506 plugged in for a while, and I had those pry loose my old laptop jack input after plugging them in and out for a while, but this is a desktop and didn't really put that much strain on the plug.
>>
>>61337968
>What DAC
You want a USB DAC+AMP.
>I use this PC for mixing and mastering
Get something decent. Schiit Fulla 2 or FX-AUDIO DAC-X6 at the minimum. They're excellent value per price. Surely you can afford this much, considering your professional use.
>>
>>61337959
>DAC X6
>Output power:90mw /600Ω、180mw/300Ω、450mw/100Ω、610mw /62Ω、910mw/32Ω、1000mw/16Ω
That's a lot of output power for the price. I wonder what the Chi-Fi catch is.
>>
>>61338150
I don't see a gain switch. The volume knob is going to be stupidly sensitive with low impedance/high sensitivity headphones.
>>
>>61337847
Do what this anon says.

Either get the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi or the Asus Xonar U7 MKII. Both are very very good.
>>
>>61337959
What about AKG K 701, how do they compare?

I use a focusrite audio interface
>>
>>61338150
Its TPA6120 usually means 10 ohm output impedance, which is far from ideal.
>>
>>61338178
K612 are more accurate/balanced than K701, which are bright. K612 outclass both the K701 family and the K712 family, as the K712 have too much bass. The drawback with the K612 is they're difficult to drive.
>>
>>61338170
>>61338001
So, should I get a DAC, or a DAC+amp? Isn't an amp more important if I have none?
>>
>>61338169
Gain switch is inside the unit weirdly enough via jumpers.
>>61338193
I've been hearing this tossed around a bit here, why is it far from ideal?

>Isn't an amp more important if I have none?
Sure, but what you need the most is a trusted source that you know doesn't suck. That's why DAC+AMP, the full package. It makes your computer's internal audio irrelevant.
The suggested dac+amps (fulla2, dac-x6) are very good options, particularly the fulla2 due to its lower output impedance.
>>
>>61338403
Stop spouting bullshit.

He can a usb soundcard that delivers sound on par with whatever retarded DAC+AMP combo you can come up with for a lot cheaper.

Fucking audiophile niggers and their placebos.
>>
>>61338268
>I've been hearing this tossed around a bit here, why is it far from ideal?
Say you've got some 50Ω headphones, which is a pretty common value. That's 5:1 ratio between headphones and output. You want 10.
The main issue is that headphones seldom have a completely flat frequency response vs impedance plot. What happens is that, when the ratio is low, frequency response is impacted.

I'm looking for some new headphones because the cheap ones I buy from local stores keep breaking. I'm not an audiophile or anything like that so I don't care about how good the sound quality is, so long as it doesn't have that tin sound and don't break after two months.

Doesn't matter, but I would prefer for them to be cheap. As I said I'm not an audiophile nor do I listen to music or play multiplayer games that much, so I won't need overly expensive headphones.

Don't get the K701, bass is too anemic. Spend more and get the Q701. You'd want the Q701 because it's Austrian made and has a slightly better bass response.

Compared to the HD600 the Q701 has a larger soundstage and more aggressive sound.

Don't get K701 or Q701 because of the shitty retard headband bumps. Get K702 if you must have a member of this family, but again, K612 is superior sounding.
>>
>>61339765
You've spent how much in your O2 setup?
Most money should go to transducers, as they make the most difference.
HD600 is a sane choice and, even then, your O2 will be accounting for too much of the total cost, while contributing so little to the sound.
>>
>>61340046
They're more accurate.
HD650 are a colored version which adds bass and removes treble. The frequency response does swing around more than the HD600, but it is still pretty good.

Both hinges are shot (Friend put metal inside to keep them rigid), the earcups and headband are also in real bad shape. The right side also has a very faint rattle whenever really deep bass is played.
