Why do my Piston headphones always shit the bed after about 6 months?
Had two Piston 2,1's and now the Piston Hybrid's. Both had one earphone stop working.

Also, need buying advice please. Looking to replace my Piston Hybrid's

Slightly bassy, I tried the Piston 3's and didn't like them as much as the Piston Hybrid's. Noise isolation is also important.

I don't really know what's been going on since the Piston Hybrid's released or what's the best out there, pleas help

Honestly this happened to my Sony earphones too, and I know it happens to some others. is it just wear and tear? I put them in my jeans pocket sometimes

i also broke two piston 2's and three rock zircons.
i just bought this one and it is on the way http://www.gearbest.com/headsets/pp_279992.html
it is pretty p/p.

Bingo, that's what's killing your IEMs. Stop abusing them and put them in a case or something.
>>
>>61319171
>>61319366
Because you don't take care of your belongings retard. I have pistons 3 which are over 2 years old and work perfectly
>I put them in my jeans pocket sometimes
If you sloppily wear them in your pockets and cause cable to bend all over the place it will break over time. This is not fucking rocket science, all cables break like this if you don't take care of them. Buy case. How is this even a questions on technology board.

Hey all,

I'm re-entering the headphone market as my 7 year old AKG Q701's are starting to show their age.

>Budget
I've got about $1200 with some wiggle room for a complete upgrade. I'm hoping for DAC/AMP/Headphones as my fioo e17's screen is so burnt in I can't operate it anymore.

>Location
Melbourne, Australia

>Source
They'll only ever be used on my desktop

Actually I'm just using some faux leather bag I got with porta pros years ago, but there are much better choices. Basically roll your headphones around your hand loosely and then put it into either case or some small bag. Just look for earbud/iem cases on amazon or whatever. You can even make one, all that matters is that you have separate container in which your headphones will sit rolled in the same position you put them, then you will not be constantly putting stress on your iems and cables won't be breaking as often.

Pretty much, if you can afford HD600 (and it isn't that expensive, either), that's the one to get. It0s the most neutral as per harman target, and that makes it an excellent all-rounder.
>>

HD650 are definitely warm. Some may find the HD600 warm. I'd advise you to audition both if at all possible.

Elitist fag here. Are any of the higher price-range Sennheiser in-ears still made in Germany? I strictly avoid anything made in China. Preferences are EU > US > other >>> China.

Which in-ears could I get, which are not made in China, are over-all balanced and have enough bass?

Music styles:

Drum & Bass 30 %
Breakbeat 20 %
German metal 20 %
Reggae 10 %
Others: Rest

Noice cancelling: either none or passive. I don't want to "charge" my earphones
May not be bluetooth because I fly a lot with Swiss and with Austrian airlines and they both do strictly not allow bluetooth headsets during the whole flight.

How can I eliminate noise from my Fulla 2 when connected to my PC and using powered monitors? I don't get noise off my laptop or phone, I think it's ground loop noise since the computer and speakers are off the same line. I tried a separate PCI-E USB 3.0 card and it made it slightly better. Sennheiser HD598 for $100 Canadian on Prime Day. Is it good for someone who will probably only use it to play games and voice chat? I was also looking at the Sennheiser GAME ZERO. I know that gaming headsets are pretty disliked but I don't own a dedicated microphone (using a webcam microphone atm) and its discounted to $200 so kinda cheap.

The area I have is kinda small so its easy for wires to get tangled and I have broken headphones before dropping them and eventually each ear just stops outputting sound.

A while ago I got the Seinheiser HD 380 Pro headphones. While they're nice, I found out neutral headphones aren't really for me, and felt somewhat underwhelmed. I feel like these are for people that record their own music, and I don't do any of that.

I have to admit the Sony MDRXB950B1 caught my eye (mainly because of the price reduction), but besides that I don't know anything about their quality. I know Thinkpads, not headphones.

Amazon prime day has some good deals on headsets, I was wondering which ones do you guys think would be better?

or

It wouldn't let me use bitly to shorten the links, so sorry about that.

If you are too poor to afford decent headphones (such as my Audeze LCD3 Planar Magnetic Headphones) , then if you really on a tight budget , if you absolutelly cannot get Audeze, then in the pleb category, I guess Sennheiser HD 700 are kind of OK... they are kind of cheap $499 on Amazon

If you spend below $450 for headphones you basically hate music and hate your ears and you should probably stop listening to music. Seriously.

The guide is great, went through the whole thing out of curiosity, but ran into an issue.
EAPO won't EQ according to the exported .txt file from RAW. If I play with the filters built in the EAPO the effect is instant, I can simulate a part of the RAW eq curve in its graphic equalizer and immediately hear the difference, and RAW's EQ'd curve even shows up in the analysis panel, but there's no change to the sound when I turn it on/off. What dumb thing have I missed?

Worked around it for now by simply copypasting the filters into the config.txt itself, but if there is a way of doing it through the "include" for quick A/B comparing, let me know, please.

I have noticed that Equalizer APO sometimes does not apply a text file's filters if the text file is not located in Equalizer APO's config folder. This appears to me to be a bug which happens sometimes but not all the time. Try putting the text file in the config folder and then using include on it.

How well does the Fulla 2 drive the HD600s? Your current post makes me confused more than anything.
Was balls supposed to be bass?

I have a Fulla 2 as well and ordered the HD6XX. I read it can push 40mW on a 300 ohm impedance, and 360mW on 32 ohms.
I use an ATH-M50 with it now, and given it's 36 ohms, the amount I had to turn the knob to get the same volume I had before makes me think it might not be able to drive the HD6XX at a listenable level.
I may just end up having to drop another $150 - $200 on a different Amp/DAC, or a separate Amp since I believe the Full 2 has a passthrough allowing it to act only as a DAC.
>>
>>61324860
Yeah, that did it. I thought since it showed up in the analysis panel properly it was fine. I knew it would be something stupid like this. Thanks mate.
>>
>>61324545
What, exactly, is lacking about the sound to you? You should also give them a lot of listening time to acclimate yourself to their sound. It's quite common for new headphones to sound "wrong" at first because they're not what you're used to, and for them to sound better as you get used to them.

Edited the post on Head-Fi to specify saving filter text files to the config folder. I'm glad you reminded me of that bug.
>>
Will post this again since we're on the subject of Equalizer APO:

Here's a convenient solution for quick switching between Equalizer APO configs for those of you who use it with multiple headphones, or with multiple speakers:

@echo off
copy /b /y "d:\sp\config.txt" "c:\program files\equalizerapo\config\config.txt"

Just save that as a .bat file and place a shortcut to the .bat on your desktop or in start menu. Replace d:\sp with whatever folder you want to keep the config.txt and .bat file in. The batch copies the config.txt from your desired location and pastes it into your Equalizer APO config folder, instantly changing your Equalizer APO settings as a result.

SHP9500+BoomPro is $80 together though they're a good bang for buck headset combo with a great mic and good sounding headphones. Refub Clouds I see occasionally go for ~$40 and are a pretty decent pair of headphones with a mic definitely better than the G230's and worse than the BoomPro.

Independent power even off a battery doesn't seem to help, once I connect to PC usb it has noise, not using the line in. I'm using the volume controlled line out to monitors however when testing with the front headphone port it also had noise. Since my phone and laptop don't cause the noise it's probably something with my motherboard, hopefully the powered hub or PCI-E card fixes it.

Why not? All it takes is a balanced cable. Cheap options were available for the HD600/650, last I checked.
Balanced is better. It's *not* supposed to be hearable, but it *is* technically better. Bit of a waste not to get the cable when you have the amp.

That said, how much of a difference do they make? They ARE more than just a meme, right?

Are the headphones not loud enough? Buy an amp. Otherwise, don't.
There might be an issue with your sound card or whatever you're playing music from, though. If it's extremely cheap, it might also be shit. But most of today's soundcards or even phones have a good enough DAC for that to not matter, that's only a case with some super chinkshit knockoffs.

Not if you're looking for closed headphones in that pricerange, no. My only recommendation is to find a store where you can listen to the headphones you want before you buy them. The treble in Beyers is undeniably there but it's also something people often shitpost about and exaggerate (see above). Especially the closed DT770 are V-shaped, so they're pretty warm with a treble spark.

>>
>>61326906
My main complaint with the fulla2 is that, in practice, with the headphones I mainly use it with (HD598, HD380), its pre-gain is too much.

The volume knob is only really useful between 8 and 10 o'clock. It's too loud past 10, and channels aren't even below 8. I'd really like to go below 8 in normal usage.

That's how loud the damn thing is.
>>
>>61326970
They're just cheap bass+treble cannons.
For critical listening, they're puke inducing.
And ofc, Pile's (maki) voice will sound badly on them, next to proper neutral headphones such as HD600.

One thing to note about beyrers is the volume that you listen to them at. At medium and low volumes they are actually fine and are not fatiguing, but as you go higher treble get more and more promitent. Also, different structure of an ear and ear canal can boost or muffle highs or lows so it's actually dependant on the person.

From a technical standpoint if you EQ everything else down to the level of 20 Hz there's no mechanism I'm aware of which wouldn't cause 20 Hz to be level with the rest of the frequency spectrum. That statement was complete bullshit.
>>
>>61327551
I wouldn't be surprised if the frequency response changes as you approach very high volumes.
>>
>>61327608
You should still technically be able to measure at said high volumes then EQ everything down to the level of 20 Hz successfully. There's no mechanism preventing this.
>>
>>61327658 new thread
>>
>>61327625
Sure, but you may need to put in more power than usual to reach those volumes or need a different EQ curve. Which is what I'm saying, the HD600 doesn't seem to like pushing 35hz at very high volumes.
>>
>>61327691
I'm willing to bet 20-300 Hz equalization works just as well at 105 dB as at 80 dB on it. I've EQ'd a lot of headphones and haven't found one yet that behaved differently at these levels.

>Louder, more compressed, music samples were preferred when dynamic-range compression was applied to a moderate extent.
High dynamic range is a meme. "Well mastered" = moderate brickwall compression. It's scientifically proven.
>>
>>61327791
I rarely if ever see any music mastered at an average level of below -10 dB. Even given an example of music mastered at an average level of -10 dB you need to be listening to that shit at 105 dB for the loudest peaks to be 115 dB. That's already way too goddamn loud. Sorry, but you're not providing a typical or practical usage scenario whatsoever.
>>
>>61327872
At least -20dB if it's decent mastering. This includes Love Live and THE iDOLM@STER.
Still, you don't want peaks to go anywhere near 115dB in any event. 105dB perhaps.
>>
>>61328075
>-20 dB
That's terrible mastering. Engineers apply brickwall compression for a reason: because it sounds great in moderation.
>>
>>61328075
The job of an audio engineer in charge of mastering is to make it sound great on anything. Part of sounding great is being fucking loud enough. Something mastered at an average level of -20 dB will not be loud enough on many typical setups. That's awful mastering.
>>
>>61328149
Depends on your target. They were definitely aiming at anything that's not shit tier, in which -20dB will do a better job of not making a mush of the different tracks that make the song.

That's awful mastering if you want to play songs to the average consumer on his shitty car radio where louder = better.
Otherwise, you are literally degrading the track with compression, worsening the sound quality. If you care about what you're listening to, you hate this trend of past few decades of making everything compressed.
The study you keep waving around actually confirms what I'm saying, if you payed enough attention to actually read through it. Once volume is out the window, people prefer uncompressed or only very slightly compressed tracks, and can tell the difference.

>>
>>61328354
-8 compression threshold is not really "very slightly compressed," (I'd consider this moderate) and there's no significant statistical difference between no comp and -8 there. This shows that there's no perceived loss of quality resulting from moderate compression.
Furthermore, most real world scenarios are not loudness equalized.
-20 dB mastering is plain retarded. It will simply not get loud enough on many setups. This is unacceptable.
>>
>>61328130
>in moderation.

-10dB is pushing it.

-20dB would leave some room to actually allow for some parts of the song to sound louder (dynamic range!).
At -10dB average, making anything louder would likely result in clipping.

You're still sacrificing sound quality to sell records. That's great from a business standpoint, but not for a listener. Uncompressed music is objectively better, because it doesn't compromise sound quality.
