Ok, several threads later, I think I may just settle for a Moto G5+ (pricematching the 4/64 gb model to $230) Is there anything which has updated support and features things like NFC, USB-C, etc at the same price point?

need some /spg/ wisdom.

I'm looking for a new android phone and basically I want to use it for VR too, so high PPI.

Within my budget are the LG G3 and the Samsung S6, former is roughly 120 euro, latter roughly 200 euro (second hand).

What do you recommend, the LG G3 cheaper but larger. Any personal experiences?

fuck it I'm buying a note 5
It was either that or an s7 or s7 edge, and the comparison videos I'm seeing are showing the note 5 beating out the s7 and narrowly losing out on the s7 edge.
Combined with the S-pen features it seems like a no brainer.

Only downside is I can't find a 64gb model anywhere I guess I'm stuck with 32gb.
>>
>>61261607
Yeah the few cons about the note 5 is it not having an SD card slot, the camera can be poop at times, and the battery life on it kinda sucks, usually around 3-4 hours screen on, charges fast though

I'm not super intelligent when it comes to roms because I'm afraid of bricking, but in case no one else responds, the Nextbit Robin comes with preunlocked bootloader, some chink phone's should be pretty easy, I had a G2 that I flashed a few roms on, I'd stay away from locked carrier phone's like ATT, Verizon etc. Try to go for an unlocked phone.

Thanks for the suggestions.
Basically I've only had one smartphone so far and not for long. It's a Sony Xperia one and I found the procedure to unlock the bootloader and flash the stock firmware pretty easy and thorough (practically restored it as it was when I got it).
I don't care about custom ROMs that much, I just care about it being able to go back to stock/factory defaults once I root it and perhaps fuck something up by removing apps I'm not supposed to.

>>
>>61264281
Huawei / Honor have been historically pretty bad with all that stuff, so most of their phones don't get much development for them. Doesn't help that they're using their own Kirin SoCs instead of Snapdragon either. I think they're trying to improve by releasing kernel sources and making unlocking the bootloader easier, but currently I cant recommend them if you're interested in custom ROMs. Hopefully that will change in the future.

Don't know about ZTE generally but they've been really supportive of developers with the Axon 7. I guess their cheaper phones don't get the same treatment.

Out of the chink manufacturers Oneplus and Xiaomi are by far the best for custom ROMs. The bootloaders are unlockable officially and there's plenty of custom ROMs available.

Moto X Pure (2015) and I'm sick of this piece of shit. Lenovo keeps saying the Nougat update will come Soon™ which pisses me off to the point of wanting to chuck it out the window, and honestly as soon as I sell the thing it'll probably come out the next day, but I was never a huge fan of this phone plus the battery's deader than shit and the main seller for OEM replacements on ebay is on vacation seemingly permanently.

Tiem to upgrade. However the season of the new Pixel as well as the iPhone is upon us, and I'm also in between jobs. So I've been thinking about getting a Moto G5+ to fill the gap till I can afford a sexy flagship. Any reason not to get the 2gb model?

Was thinking about the Nexus 6p as well but for 64gb it's $300. Don't see any other similarly specced, rootable (custom ROMs), phones on Verizon.

Should I be worrying about DACs when buying a phone? I'm not a exactly an audiophile but I do use my phone a lot for music. How big is the difference between an average DAC and a good/great DAC?
>>
>>61265265
>>61265302
>>61265313
All wrong. HMD are charged with development and marketing while Foxconn are manufacturing the single digit series.
>>
>>61265351
Pretty big difference, the DAC on a V20 and Axon 7 are comparable and when compared to a non-DAC or low-end DAC, blow them out of the water as far as SQ is concerned
>>
>>61265364
So then my question is how Dev friendly will HMD be? Are they going to be dicks like Sony and pull some fuckery with the camera API if the bootloader is unlocked?

I would of got the cunt a P2 with its god tier battery if three hadnt stopped selling it. yea it is just all the usual female apps you would expect but I cant see a G5 cutting it after 6 months of abuse on that shitty battery. Her rn3p is now far from smooth (2gb ram) and the battery has gone to shit. She wont have root because a work app she needs wont run.

>14 HOURS AGO by: Yuan Yang, Emily Feng and Yingzhi Yang in Beijing The fall ofcash-strapped technology group LeEco, which had once tried to take on Tesla in the American autonomous car market, has become a headache for creditors trying to recover cash. LeEco’s creditors were squatting on yoga mats at its headquarters in Beijing on Friday, the morning after the group’s embattled founder and chair Jia Yueting resigned from the board. Twelve creditors and contractors had just emerged from a meeting inside the headquarters, but were unsatisfied and waiting for more. LeEco’s listed arm, Leshi Internet and Information Technology, has Rmb1.98bn ($290m) of liabilities due within a year as of the end of March. “Leshi Internet still owes me Rmb60m,” said a 40-year-old man, who added that his firm had supplied mobile handsets for the company.“I don’t have money to hire a lawyer.” Earlier this week, China Merchants Bank won a court order to freeze Rmb1.24bn belonging to LeEco, Mr Jia and his wife. LeEco had missed interest payments on a loan from the bank. “I will persist in my duties until the end for the sake of our employees, users, customers and investors,” Mr Jia had written on social media on Thursday. Half a year ago, LeEco’s billionaire founder had been boasting of taking on Tesla at the unveiling of the FF91, a prototype electric car produced by Faraday Futures, a company substantially backed by LeEco. “Their business strategy was‘spray money and pray’,” said William Bao Bean, partner at venture capital fund SOSV.“I think at this point they’re in the praying mode.” Property developer Sunac stands to lose the most: it had given LeEco a lifeline byinvesting $2.4bn in January. In return, Sunac received stakes in LeEco’s core businesses.

Basically LeEco's CEO stepped down and creditors are now squatting at their corporate hq

Does anyone know how long the sale on the lg g5 is going to last?
>>
>>61268691
If anything it could just be a price drop disguised as a sale to get buyers, the G5s have dropped like crazy recently.
>>
Sealed LeEco Le Pro3 or a used LG V20? Both are ~$205 USD
>>
>>61268842
Link to V20? Is it unlocked?

LG G5 a bit cheaper ($239) here
>>61265586

>>61268678
Not really, it's refurbished and it's the Sprint version
>>
>>61268945
Could I Price Match it to match? I want to pick it up asap
>>
Why the fuck aren't there any good flagships phones out? This is ridiculous.
>>
>>61269047
You're just too picky.

>>61269031
Worth a try.

>>61269047
What's wrong with the Galaxy S8? Or the S7 edge for that matter.

Is this too good to be true?
>>
>>61269344
No, has the link and in the article even said will pick up GSM bands
>>
>>61269362
Correction, apparently it doesn't have B12/17 support, so yes it might be too good to be true
>>
What android phones don't have the shitty google merger thing
>>
>>61269381
So I have 2 options: Spend a little more and get this at $265:
https://swappa.com/listing/VHD283/view
or get a LG G5 for $240
https://flash.newegg.com/product/9SIAAM85WC4744
>>
>>61269436
Can't really go wrong with either but I would go for the Newegg flash deal, the G5 is just better than the Moto Z Play except with battery life I imagine, but the battery is removable/replaceable so notch another on on the G5's belt
>>
>>61269454
Are there batteries that could be replaced with that of the G5? Seems rather slim compared to traditional Li-ions (Coming from former Galaxy Note 2 nut)
>>
Just bought a LeEco Le Pro 3 64gb/4gb edition unlocked for $220. Did I get chinked? It looks like it has decent specs for the price works on US bands, and has a decent modding community with official lineages and TWRP builds. I'm upgrading from a Note 4.

Think I should get the LG G5 and this and end my search for a new phone after 6 threads?
>>
>>61269548
Oh shit Anon just reminded me
https://swappa.com/listing/KSR171/view
Resale near $200 flat
With the current state of LeEco, should I still get a LePro3?
>>
>>61269635
Yeah, I think so, shame there's no reviews on those batteries
>>
>>61269659
dev support is strong, I would take the risk at that price

Ok so here's the FINAL SHOWDOWN!!1!!1!1!
Since Anon reminded me about the LePro3

On one hand, there's the LG G5
- Old flagship
- US support
Paired with a 4070mAh battery kit, about $260

And the LeEco LePro3
- Recent issues with the company
- But strong community/dev support
Could get a resale at $200

Two contestants, only one will end this fucking spam that's plagued /SPG/ for like 6 threads now

I'm looking for an android that costs around 400, 500 bucks.

It has to use Google maps without destroying the battery, but also won't cause a text message to lock it up.

Also I really want the slow mo mode on the camera, the really good kind that watch the waves from someone getting slapped on the face

I feel like I'm asking for too much.

>>
>>61269821
Eh, if anything I'd consider a new battery replacement if I find the stock quickly draining.
>>
>>61269780
Woot.com had a daily deal. Ended 10pm PST on 7/7
>>
Now that the dust has settled...
How is the V20?
>>
>>61269846
Look up power bear
>>
>>61269967
eh seems to get reviews complaining about overheating, again I'll see what the stock does and go from there
>>
What are the chances that the redmi note 5 has NFC?

I just want the redmi 4 prime with USB-C and NFC.
>>
>>61259487
Note 5 is still an awesome phone. My girlfriend loves hers, and she's had it from release. Not slowed down at all. If you wanted something a bit more powerful, the Note 8 and Note FE should be released toward the end of the year
