I got the Fury X for $300 not too long ago, and the goddamn RX 480s are going for nearly the same price. If the Vega cards have decent price/performance, they may be used for mining but if that ratio is too far off then they probably won't be.

Really new to building a PC, have only done it once. I'm about to swap out a GPU, so two stupid questions. Is the order -

>use DDU to remove old drivers
>power down PC, remove all cables
>unlatch GPU, pull it out, put new one in
>fire PC back up and install new drivers

Is it that simple? I'm also plugging it into a 3 year old PC - is there any way it can harm the GPU? I'm not building a new rig until Christmas, but I don't want to sit on the GPU that long, will pull it out when I build the new one. Unsure if there's any reason doing so is stupid.

Should I start lowering it little by little on a daily basis? What's a considered standard vcore value for a R5 1600 on stock clocks (3200mhz and up to 3700mhz in boost for a few cores)? Also, Win10 is still set as "normal" in the power options, should I set it to "maximum performances"? When I did I'd almost constantly see 1.380vcore on HwinFO64 so it scared me a bit.

Second question regarding Ryzen. I looked up the CPU usage with MSI Afterburner on games and too often the last 6 threads were shown at 0 or something 6 or so, which led me to think HT was off, but when I'd benchmark the CPU everything was maxed to 100% and the scores I'd get were the same as other people on internet. Under Task Manager, CPU tab, "Virtualization" (I don't know if it's called like this in English) is shown as "Yes" on my 7700K PC but on the Ryzen one it's on "No" - could it be it? I'll check the BIOS next time I'm on it (it's my sibling's) but could HT (SMT?) be potentially off?

Also, you don't need that cooler unless you want to overclock, but do you really need to overclock (right now) when you have plenty of power already at hand? The stock cooler can handle decent overclocks even, my R7 1700 (8 cores) can take a 3.7GHz overclock without much problem as long as i'm not at 100% load for over 20 minutes

Should be fine. An R5 1600 system pulls less than 150W under worst case scenario Prime95 load. The 1030 has a 30W TDP, so you're not going to reach 250W, so long as you're not planning on running a ton of hard drives and stuff.

I am absolutely clueless on which RAM to get. I'm planning on overclocking to 4.0ghz so that means I might be running it 24/7 at 1.35v if I have an above average chip. Is the cooling solution enough? You need a CPU that has no more than a 35W TDP and a beefy passive CPU cooler (which means a massive 5U chassis-sized case. And you'll still need some sort of airflow in order to force the hot air out, otherwise it will just continue to build up in your PC. any recomendation for a pc that i can put on a backpack?
was planning on a micro atx ryzen 5 1600x with a 1060 6gb. i kinda want to have a pc that i can use and study at work (secretary and doing xrays is not a constant flow of work, i have huge chunks of free time in between), but that i can bring to home when i finish or atleast on weekends when a friend comes home.
I was planning on the cougar qbx, or something like that, don't know its size, but judging from the pictures it looks like i can fit it in a backpack, but feels like it would break something easily.
im open to suggestion, im kinda consedering the 1050 ti low profile, which looks neat for something slim, but i feel like i would need a bit more of a punch for rendering and baking stuff with cuda.

Swap the i5 out for an R5 1600 and a B350 motherboard (the Asus Prime B350-Plus is a good deal). You'll be very glad you did if you're planning to do some streaming.

It's solid. Not the exact choices I'd make for a few things, but there's nothing wrong there. It's a fantastic budget build and you could drop a much more powerful graphics card into it later and turn it into a powerhouse.

Idk about how demanding streaming is but i guess that you will have to reduce settings.
With your budget you'll have to cut corners, too. If you can save 100-150 GBP more you can actually get a good build.

sigh i envy the first wolrd. when i upgrade my pc (once every 7 years), i cut corners everywhere, the most important, GET CPU CASE OF OFF THE STREET. it's just a chunk o' metal that wont affect anything, if you need more usbs you can fit a cheap front usb into the floppy bay, and you done, and put those extra pounds somewhere else, maybe around the butt

No. Mobo, GPU and PSU are worse and he could only fit in the 1600 because he didn't chose any storage.

The difference between 3200 CL16 and 3000 CL15 is negligible, especially for gaming and i bet he can find Ripjaws V 3200 CL16 for cheaper than the LPX kit.

An extra 50W on the PSU is irrelevant when he's buying a 1050 Ti and the faster the RAM, the better for Ryzen since it directly affects IF speed.
