It's seriously unlikely the headband will snap in the first place. HD600/650 are very low maintenance, you'll need to replace the pads every 2-5yr depending on wear and preference, but that's about it.
Seriously easy to take apart and put together, too.

ER-4SR comes close.

For full-sized headphones, it will be the SRH-1440, but it has some problems. HD600 comes close as well. This is in production headphones. LCD-1 seems really close as well but it's not in production. There's also STAX Lambda + ED-1.

Pretty much guaranteed to cause eardrum damage at some point. Tinnitus is horrible. Take great care of your ears, Anons. It's very easy to fuck them up, damage is non-reversible, insufferable and often the cause of severe depression and suicide.

Many audiophiles do confuse ear rape with detail.
It would be fine if this was harmless, but unfortunately these frequency responses with raised treble are seriously dangerous, and highly likely to damage hearing.
It would make a lot of sense to investigate these practices and possibly put some laws in place to protect consumers.

I really need to update that album chart, oh well.

I think for international customers that $250 is still a decent deal because the international shipping is free now (unless I misread it) so it's more like $30 more than last time. The shit part will be actually getting your hands on a pair when like 60k people requested another drop and there are 7500 units. Also 'shipped before December 25th' isn't exactly something to get excited about

for ASMR you want something full-sized. Definitely open headphones too. Up your budget to $250 or whatever the price is now is now to get the K7XX when it's available again on Massdrop, great value.

Been enjoying my knock off niggerphones here over the past month, best sound quality of anything I've used. With the original earpads they tend to be uncomfortable, but trading them out for over ear earpads made them much more comfortable and tuned down the bass on them a bit to a normal headphone range.

So /hpg/, recently my HD7850 graphics card fried and now I'm going to buy and build a new high-end PC that's ranging from 2000-2300 dollars. I was also thinking about upgrading from my shitty 20 dollar earplugs that have a malfunctioning control and I've had for about a year (I actually just got my first job so I'm kind of in the process of replacing and upgrading everything.)

I was wondering what would be a 'modestly' priced by good upgrade from these ranging from 100 to 200 dollars. I want them to be full-sized and closed and I want them to be more comfortable than "Jesus christ this thing is giving me a headache."
Of course I will be plugging these into my computer for music and other things.

I need disposable headphones for under 20 to listen mainly to audiobooks at work, they have to be cheap, under 20 because i am definitely going to brake them, there is no way they will live past a few months,
the only thing i care about is them being comfy and i guess i am asking what's the best thing i can get from the really cheap throw away lines.

Rock Zircons are pretty comfy throwaways. You could also buy some custom foam tips from ali for a few cents. Replaced the tips on my KZ with those, increased comfort and gave them a decent isolation.

Generic shit.

I just built a new computer and the on-board audio is completely horrendous, I'd like a decent set of USB headphones so I can actually hear the games I'm playing well. A friend recommended me a headset that was 100 dollars but I feel that might be overkill. I just want a decent pair of USB headphones to enjoy my game audio and listen to music.

The measurements show that both headphones have a similar midbass boost, a similar small dip in the lower treble and a similar slight raise in upper treble response, the primary difference between the two headphones' measurements being the HD558's bass extension.
I could understand the masking effect of that extra bass extension causing a listener to think they sound like the measure more differently than they actually do.

I had been considering these when I was researching my Dt-770s. They gave me kind of "Beats by Dre" vibe. Can you attest to the quality personally?
>>
Can I ask other audio related questions here too?

I'm about to buy a audio stack, and I'm willing to spend ~1k$ on it. Since my walls are thin, I can only listen with headphones

My headphones probably will be the HD650. What I'm still looking for are:

- A good DAC
- A Tube Amplifier that can preferably switch between two (or more) sources. Should I buy an additional preamp for this?
- Tubes (This is probably personal preference)

My guess would be Shiit Lyr2/Bifrost but they seem to be more experienced in the non-tube 100$-range.
The Reußenzahn Amps look promising, but they're way too expensive.

Someone already using a tube amp? What should I look out for?

Hey, im looking for a noise cancelling wireless headphone with a bass signature. Budget can be up to 300 but the cheaper the better highest being the soundcomfort35 by bose i guess? Im not sure ir thats my best bet though what do you guys think? I like mostly dream pop, and it ranges to some rap and i like dancing with them on and my house i cant make too much noise because i live on rent. Plus, my landlord can be a bit noisey with her parties and stuff. Anyway, something that allows for a wide range but isnt specifically catered towards like bass sluts. I just want something afordable, decent sound quality that lets you feel thw music and hopefully canceling enough for me to listen to my lo-fi hiphop study playlist. Portability is kind of important but im sure i can stuff them in their case and get them in my backpack! Also im in toronto id that helps, probably just going to order off amazon, or best buy if theres a sale. I have the m30s and i like them but neutral isnt reallt what i was looking for i guess, although its good for what i normally do, very comfortable too

HD800 is insanely comfortable and has the most consistent fit of any headphone, the FR is pure garbage however. I've realized it's not on your list but you should consider it. I went with the vanilla HD800 since I am EQing it but you may consider the HD800S if you don't want to EQ. I've tried all of the popular meme-fi headphones and they aren't really better than $300 headphones.
>>
>>61097951
My issue with STAX is that they're ugly and plastic except for the models which are definitely out of my price range (SR-009). The 007 looks okay but I don't like the look of its FR. Although I guess only listening to it will let me know for sure.
>>
>>61098005
A DAC will convert the digital signal into an analog one, and an amp will amplify this signal for use with a transducer. This is 'cause line-level output isn't suited to drive transducers.
>>
>>61097207
>similar to 770?
Not better? Look into HD600. Particularly, if you're even considering the HD650/xx, understand what the differences are.
Most reviewers prefer the HD600, and it is objectively better as its FR is more neutral. Both headphones are modular, parts are compatible between both, they're both really good, and they cost similarly.
>>
When was the last AKG K7XX drop? it's not really limited edition anymore right?

The lambdas having plastic housings doesn't matter all that much. Remember there are 40+ year old lambdas out there that still work perfectly.

The 007s are the odd one out with stax, but they didn't seem too dark or anything from the (admittedly short) time I've spent listening to them. They're also notoriously hard to drive if you want them to sound their best.

I want my headphones to look as good as their price, not just sound as good. Although if I end up opting for something cheaper like a LCD-X or Elear, I'll probably pick up a set of cheaper STAX to go along with it just out of curiousity. Maybe L700/L300 or something.
>>
>>61098144
There's the entry level options from schiit, fiio, the o2/odac, etc. Depends on if it's for portable use though.
>>
>>61098081
I'd suggest the Schiit Fulla 2 for your use case. It's a known-good usb DAC+AMP. Since it does both, it bypasses issues with your source (shitty/noisy soundcard'sdac, impedance/power bullshit in the integrated amp).
>>
>>61098146
>non-noisecancelling
Sadly I don't do wireless headphones *at all*, as I don't listen to music outside; I do rely on my ears heavily to track everything that's going on around me.
I listen to music a lot at home (HD600 + Schiit Uber Stack) and work (HD380 Pro + Fulla2), which should be enough.
>>
>>61098158
>I want my headphones to look as good as their price

The 009s are definitely that. Though even if they weren't beautiful I'd still love my pair for its sound. If you don't mind getting used you could look for a lambda nova signature. They have a reputation for being the smoothest (or least bright, or however you want to describe it) lambdas.
>>
>>61098158
>I want my headphones to look as good as their price, not just sound as good.
For good sound and (seriously, the real item is gorgeous unlike the pics) appearance, HD600.
You can spend more and get different, possibly better, aesthetics. You won't get better sound even if you spend more, at least not without EQ.

I also really love to dance and i cant blast music so i need wireless

I loved my akg k550 headphones but they broke after ~2 years of extensive use. Do you guys know of anything comparable to them but more durable?
>>

Neat. Good for you. If I tried that, I'd trip and hurt myself. I rely on my ears heavily for balance too.

DT770/Custom Studio IF you consistently had a good seal.
K702/DT880 if not.

I'd love to have them if they weren't getting into Sennheiser orifice levels of price. But yeah, I'll keep a lookout on ebay for lambda nova signatures. They seem to be priced quite fairly most of the time.

Bassy but otherwise flat... I'd say HD600>k702 or k712 if for whatever reason you really really want bassy.

Stax has nothing on sennheiser's jewry when it comes to pricing. Even when the yen weakened significantly a year or two ago they didn't raise the price of the 009. They used to be $5250 back in 2011, and now they're $3800 brand new. Of course you can pick up a barely used pair for around $3k, give or take.

Meanwhile in sennland they have the audacity to charge $55k for a richman's showoff toy, and a single HE90 driver is $4k last I checked. "Muh carrara marble" meanwhile marble isn't actually that expensive. I could go on about the weird decisions made for the HE-1 (like the mosfets stuffed in the earcups) but you get the picture.

>>
>>61098448
Street use? Hell no. Computer? Yes.
I use mine at work to listen to music with HD380 Pro, and to play deresute on the phone (using line in) on my break.
>>
>>61098443
The actual headphone itself isn't priced too bad, but add on a basic energizer and it gets to be around $5K, which is just over my price range (I'd say $4K is a hard limit for me). A good amp brings it up even further.

I suppose I could get a cheapo low end energizer, but that just doesn't have the same appeal as running a Utopia off of a Fulla 2.

>>61088021
I have a Scarlett 6i6. For the price, it comes packed with features though I have to reconfigure the audio paths everytime I power it off on Linux. It makes for a pretty decent DAC if that's all you're using it for but the power for headphones may be pretty low for some.
>>
poorfag here, how do the hd558 compare to the hd600/650?
for under $100 should i buy those or the shp9500
>>
>>61098587
They measure fairly close to the HD600 and extremely close to the SHP9500. As you can see by >>61091367 >>61091392 >>61091457 the HD558 and SHP9500 measure nearly identically save for the HD558 having better subbass extension. I'd recommend the HD558 for said subbass extension, as it measures nearly identically to the SHP9500 from the midbass through the treble.

While it's not readily apparent by the raw measurement, it's a midbass boost in relation to both a diffuse field target and a Harman target-like target.

No kidding. What's the point if you already live in the US?

I just joined the drop because they don't ship this item outside of the US, but is this a sale or the new price for HD650s? I swear they were much more expensive before.

I'm confused on why the prices are changing so much, even the DT880s seem much cheaper now. Is it just cheaper to manufacture because technology or is it because of changes to cheaper materials? From what I've also read/watched so far, the HD6XX seems identical to the HD650 other than the look and the cable. Are we getting anything that might otherwise be detrimental with the HD6XX because it's cheaper than the HD650?

It's only objectionable in the right channel, so it's more likely that's a result of natural product variance than indicative of every example of the headphone.

>>61099530
Distortion measurements at http://superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/akg-k612-pro.3203/ don't show a giant spike at 5-6 kHz so it's likely that single channel IF result was a result of natural product variance. Odd-order harmonic distortion measurements here never get anywhere close to 1% so non-euphonic distortion is likely inaudible.

Completely flat on InnerFidelity and Headroom compensated graphs will sound very bright.

>>
>>61099697
GE's measurement isn't so kind to it.

GE's measurement is likely an outlier. The graphs on innerfidelity and headroom match up, the ones on GE don't.

I'm pretty sure that's because IF and Headroom use the same dummy head. One can't assume either is an outlier.
