For full-sized headphones, it will be the SRH-1440, but it has some problems. HD600 comes close as well. This is in production headphones. LCD-1 seems really close as well but it's not in production. There's also STAX Lambda + ED-1.

So /hpg/, recently my HD7850 graphics card fried and now I'm going to buy and build a new high-end PC that's ranging from 2000-2300 dollars. I was also thinking about upgrading from my shitty 20 dollar earplugs that have a malfunctioning control and I've had for about a year (I actually just got my first job so I'm kind of in the process of replacing and upgrading everything.)

I was wondering what would be a 'modestly' priced by good upgrade from these ranging from 100 to 200 dollars. I want them to be full-sized and closed and I want them to be more comfortable than "Jesus christ this thing is giving me a headache."

I'm about to buy a audio stack, and I'm willing to spend ~1k$ on it. Since my walls are thin, I can only listen with headphones

My headphones probably will be the HD650. What I'm still looking for are:

- A good DAC
- A Tube Amplifier that can preferably switch between two (or more) sources. Should I buy an additional preamp for this?
- Tubes (This is probably personal preference)

My guess would be Shiit Lyr2/Bifrost but they seem to be more experienced in the non-tube 100$-range.
The Reußenzahn Amps look promising, but they're way too expensive.

Someone already using a tube amp? What should I look out for?

Hey, im looking for a noise cancelling wireless headphone with a bass signature. Budget can be up to 300 but the cheaper the better highest being the soundcomfort35 by bose i guess? Most reviewers prefer the HD600, and it is objectively better as its FR is more neutral. Both headphones are modular, parts are compatible between both, they're both really good, and they cost similarly.

The lambdas having plastic housings doesn't matter all that much. Remember there are 40+ year old lambdas out there that still work perfectly.

The 007s are the odd one out with stax, but they didn't seem too dark or anything from the (admittedly short) time I've spent listening to them. They're also notoriously hard to drive if you want them to sound their best.

The 009s are definitely that. Though even if they weren't beautiful I'd still love my pair for its sound. If you don't mind getting used you could look for a lambda nova signature. They have a reputation for being the smoothest (or least bright, or however you want to describe it) lambdas.

Stax has nothing on sennheiser's jewry when it comes to pricing. Even when the yen weakened significantly a year or two ago they didn't raise the price of the 009. They used to be $5250 back in 2011, and now they're $3800 brand new. Of course you can pick up a barely used pair for around $3k, give or take.

Meanwhile in sennland they have the audacity to charge $55k for a richman's showoff toy, and a single HE90 driver is $4k last I checked. The actual headphone itself isn't priced too bad, but add on a basic energizer and it gets to be around $5K, which is just over my price range (I'd say $4K is a hard limit for me). A good amp brings it up even further.

I have a Scarlett 6i6. For the price, it comes packed with features though I have to reconfigure the audio paths everytime I power it off on Linux. It makes for a pretty decent DAC if that's all you're using it for but the power for headphones may be pretty low for some.

I'm confused on why the prices are changing so much, even the DT880s seem much cheaper now. Is it just cheaper to manufacture because technology or is it because of changes to cheaper materials? Old HD650 had different drivers to new HD650 which were quite a 'dark' sounding aka dip in the upper trebble. I listened to both of them and they don't differ that much really.
