I want a full size keyboard with the tenkey on the left, black switches, cherry stabilizers, and sweet lighting effects like my ducky board.
Does it exist?

Just placed the order from everyone's favorite keycap seller. Dealt with them in the past... best prices on PBT. Everything else is a huge fucking ripoff.

That looks like a custom one-off. Did someone make that for themselves?

Is there a list of what I can reassign keys to?

The keycap font is still so bad and busy though. I'm not fond of keyboards that require custom keycaps to not be ugly.
>>
>>60864428
If you wanted cherry switches it was closer to 90 I think. I went with gateron clears just because I've never typed on a switch with an actuation force bellow 60g. Still I'm gonna replace the keycaps with some gateron cherry profile PBT so its gonna end up closer to $130
>>
>>60864477

where do you buy them? Ali?
Also gaterons are better though, why get cherry
>>
>>60864493
>where do you buy them? Ali?
Also from massdrop, but they didn't come with a small right shift so I bought some CYMK modifiers from ali that did. I have a Ducky with cherry clears, and those are some of the best switches out there. Shame the only gateron made equivalent is zealios

I want to get in to mech keyboards and I wish to start with something cheap so I get to know the difference [I've typed on mechanical last time like 20years ago]

Now I see jamedonkey with gaterons for 37$

Can someone tell me the difference between
Red Gateron compared to membrane

I care about: Loudness[I want silent kb]
I'm not quite sure about the difference between
brown and red to membrane even after searching on google.

The only thing I found is that blue has annoying clicky sound. And people claim brown are brown because they are shit.
>>
>>60867890
You can't really talk about mechanical switches by comparing them to rubber dome keyboards since they are fundamentally different in their mechanics.

Gateron browns are very good actually, it's cherry browns that are shit. If you want something that's silent and tactile, gateron brown is exactly what you're looking for.
>>
>>60867965
That is great,do you have experience with gateron blacks?

I've noticed that full board has black and brown option only.

I understand that membrane and mech may feel little different
I read something weird tho.
Membrane is supposed to have about 65g actuation force and It already feels like I have to just lay my fingers on them without force.

Would not the clear/red/brown activate just by laying my hand on kb?

It is much more comfy to write things with a lot of _ and -
>>
>>60868059
>>60867965
So I have all the gaterons, I guess I can do a mini review:
Reds: Extremely light and easy to hit by mistake, they go down very smoothly I use it for gaming when I actually got the time to.

Blacks: Heavy handed. Smooth as well. I actually prefer to type in these and browns

Browns: Comparing it to cherry mx browns where you press it down and it sortof pushes back against you, gateron browns are practically screaming for you to let go and push back up. I will say Cherry mx has a 20% push back while the gaterons has at least a 50% push back. I prefer to type on these and these are my favorite.

Blues:I actually prefer cherry blues compared to gateron blues here. Sure gateron blues are smoother, but I notice the 5g difference in typing experience. I prefer 50g of actuation force compared to 55g.

rubber domes come in all kinds of weights, so something you read on the internet is not much of a reference. No switch actuates actuates just by you putting your hand on them.

Gateron blacks are very nice. They're rather heavy, but very comfy. Though I think I'd choose browns over blacks.

>>60868209
I also agree with this guy
>>
>>60868209

Good advice.
Having tested Cherry MX Brown i can confirm the push back is extremely light. Haven't tested the Gateron but i'm looking to (not easy in the EU).
>>
i'm trying to find a good place to buy dsa profile keycaps. been on pimp my keyboard? amazon, mechanical keyboards, etc. just wondering if anybody could throw out some other places.
>>
>>60868909
Aliexpress has some cheap chink DSA sets as low as 40 bucks.
>>
>>60868909
Just want to say dsa keycaps are shit to type on. I fell for the meme and then realized that it only made the keyboard look pretty and the typing shit.
>>
What if I want less loud MX blues but consider browns mushy shit?
Am I fucked?
>>
>>60869525
No
>>
>>60868209
>Blues:I actually prefer cherry blues compared to gateron blues here. Sure gateron blues are smoother, but I notice the 5g difference in typing experience. I prefer 50g of actuation force compared to 55g.
So the gaterons are heavier? I'd like that, actually. However, I heard somewhere that gateron blues are louder than MX blues, is that true? MX blues are loud enough, I really don't need it any louder.
>>
>>60869525
Blues with O-ring.
>>
>>60869545
I'm all ears
>>
>>60869581
oh yeah, gateron blues are definately way louder then cherries and yes gateron blues are heavier.
>>
>>60869525
gateron browns
>>
>>60869585
They stop the bottom-out sound but not the click. If the bottom-out sound would be the larger part of their sound impression then people would consider e.g. brows as loud too.
>>
>>60869596
Lubed zealios :^)
Or matias quiet click
>>
>>60869598
>way louder
I thought that as well, but it turns out the pitch is just higher. They're both equally loud.
>>
>>60869616
Feels a bit like a gamble as I can't test them here. I tested MX blues and browns and browns where horrible, absolutely disgusting. Blues were okay (I'd like me a tiny bit more actuation force but it was okay, green is too much).
Considering the gaterons are similar, the chance is high I hate their brows as well.
>>
>>60869618
Want to get a Varmilo and the only options are MX and Gaterons.

>>60869617
But anon the sound of bottoming out is louder then the actuating mechanism. That's why many people consider mechanical keyboards to be too loud.
>>
>>60869617
Clack sound are much louder if you bottomed out hard. But not high pitch like click.

If you don't like click sound consider Cherry MX Clear or Gateron browns.
>>
>>60869648
Cherry mx browns are notorious for feeling like stiffer reds. Gateron browns are a truer successor to the mx blues as it actually feels like blues without the click. You will feel the difference immediately.
>>
>>60869658
I'm well aware of that and yet people don't consider damped blues as more silent than e.g. brows and there has to be a reason for that.
But whatever reason there might be, it doesn't change the outcome. Unfortunately.
>>
>>60869629
? I have both and the gatrerons are definitely louder. There are some youtube videos that compare the sound and it is easy to spot the difference.
>>
>>60869686
Because you could use o-ring with browns too.
>>
>>60869700
yeah cause the pitch is higher. Loudness is the same.
>>
>>60869686
o-rings don't effect the pitch.
>>
>>60864377
I can't confirm but I've heard multiple sources say so, you just need a hex key.
And you're on /g/ so if you don't that's pretty shameful
>>
>>60869038
I already have some keyboards w/ dsa profile keycaps. I quite like them I'm looking to get a set for a 108 key board that I have. To each their own.

>>60870206
You're saying Wikipedia is wrong? It's also the layout I have on my Logitech keyboard. I only wanted to know which is more available in custom keycaps and stuff.
>>
>>60864397
i don't get why they don't flip the numpad layout horizontally, unless they've frankensteined a stock numpad pcb with a 60% pcb, assuming they use it with their left hand, because if they use their right hand a standalone numpad would be preferable
>>
Are gateron greens a meme? Just got a pack of them and they feel a lot better than cherry blues.
>>
>>60870108
that's more expected on a mechanical keyboard, but look at gaming keyboards like corsair/razer/logitech if you insist on ISO layout with wide ctrl
>>
>>60870228
The WASD keyboard has a standard bottom row meaning its much easier to find keycaps for it
>>
>>60870228
some higher priced keycap sets come with 1.5u ctrl etc but ANSI layout with 1.25u bottom row keys with 6.25u spacebar is the most common

Look at the standard ISO layout. It also has a ctrl key as long as shift. Also brands like logitech and corsair use non standard layouts.

>>
>>60870999
Why am I a moron, just because I (correctly) assess that there's information pointing to both 1.5 and 1.25 for CTRL for ISO? Surely you must have some conclusive evidence if you're so sure about it.
>>
>>60871020
For the enter key:
>The ISO standard (ISO/IEC 9995-2) mandates a vertical Return key spanning two rows. The Japanese JIS standard (JIS X 6002-1980) uses the same key as ISO.
>It is often 1.25u wide. Some have a step or gap to the ']' key, but it is more common to be use that space for key surface, being 0.25u wider in the top row. This latter variation is sometimes called "J-shaped".
>The ISO enter is also known as European enter as most European standard layouts are based on the ISO layout.
For the bottom row:
>Today, national standards have been reduced to what is specific to their national layout and otherwise refer to ISO 9995
>>
>>60871103
>For the bottom row:
>>Today, national standards have been reduced to what is specific to their national layout and otherwise refer to ISO 9995
Okay, so it's not defined. ISO 9995 only says that there has to be a control in the bottom left. ISO is a shit standard, at least for what people use it for.

I mean problem is not when there is "gateron"
problem is when there is 100% mechanical rgb keyboard
Or 100% james donkey
or 100% very good switches
or 100% mechanical switches
or anything of that sort that holds almost 0 informational value.

It is also impossible to google original manufacturer, websites are either broken or do not exist at all.

Gearbeast is worst offender, only 4 keyboards tell you what switch type is inside.

One of them claims to have both "kailh and gateron" and I do not mean 1 part gateron 1part kalith no... It is 100% gateron and 100% kailh at once!!!

Do not even try to ask support or seller

Might be able to find a cheap backlit chink mechanical, but they use ripoff switches and look like shit. WASD is pretty solid build quality and looks great. I recommend MX Greens. Closest you will get to the glorious buckling springs.

For keycaps also take a look at DSA (from Signature Plastics/Pimp My Keyboard) and XDA(XDA milestone in particular).

Can somebody explain the benefits of a mechanical keyboard?

Is this just a new way to rice?
>>
>>60883572
It's an old way to type, new way to rice
>>
>>60883572
feels good to type on. If you have a coding job or a office job that just requires alot of typing, it feels good to use a keyboard that feels good to type on. There are three variants. One that makes your keyboard sound like a semi-typewriter and pushes back against you when you type. One that makes little noise, but pushes back against your fingers. One that goes straight up and down.

Membrane keyboards, you cannot feel your keys go down and it just feels like you are constantly typing on some thick liquid gel. Mechanical keyboards, you can feel the keys go up and down and yes it leaves you satisfied. You can also rice the keyboards as well. The sound makes you feel like you are making progress.

There is my autistic post of the week. I need to fill my quota.
>>
>>60883572
It's mostly overall typing feel and the selection of switch types to choose from. Personally I feel quicker and less fatigued typing on a mechanical keyboard.
>>
>>60879305
>>60879323
>>60879407
>>60879466
Thick wall-ed keycaps are generally considered to be best. I also prefer opaque keycaps.
Would a thicker opaque paint applied to the under side improve keycap thickness and solid tone when pressed?
Could a small amount of opaque paint be poured into the keycap, tape be applied to the keycap base and then dispersed evenly simply by shaking the keycap?
Would silver or white be better?

Also, I do realize the levels of autism focused on the minutia of keycaps but compare this to coworkers using their keyboard 40 hours a week without ever considering this at all. t can't be wrong to go into the fridge and fart on their lunch.
>>
>>60884011
this would be highly experimental but i think if you pour in the right kind of material to add some weight to a thin keycap you might improve the feel. it would probably be easier to just buy a cheapish thick pbt keycap set though.

Just go on the /mkg/ telegram if you want more help. All the losers on here don't know shit about keyboards. They just circle jerk about the chink shit they bought to justify their buyers remorse
>>
>>60885706
What's left if you leave out all the internals and older keyboard stuff?
>>
>>60885807
that is not bad
arrow keys check
no meme color scheme check
I dislike the font but it is still one of better ones.

I mean for 50$ you paid it is real nice.

>coil cable

Yeah, they're pretty much a disaster. I bought the same one from Mimic, it was a desperate struggle to keep it coiled. Eventually tried to straighten it, ended up with a really long cable with a tendency to turn slightly. Would not recommend
>>
If I'd want tactile non clicky switches, what choices do I have
>MX Browns feel like shit
>MX Clears are better than browns, but heavier
>Gateron Browns are very good, but harder to find than Cherry
>no Gateron to match MX Clears
is that right ? Don't know shit about anything, this is what I got from couple threads and some searching online
>>
>>60885950
sad to hear that
I really dig the looks
it is kinda cute in these light colors.
>>
>>60885972
>>Gateron Browns are very good, but harder to find than Cherry
Gateron browns are verry common. Magicforce on amazon, James donkey on gearbest, and tada68 on aliexpress all have them
>>no Gateron to match MX Clears
There is, but its too complicated
>>
>>60885972
Gateron browns are not hard to find anymore at all, even the budget keyboards have them.

you can buy 70 for like 25$ so for example buy chink keyboard with metal plate that you like
and change switches to brown.

I did reverse thing, bought brown gaterons and I will replace WSAD keys for something else, maybe blacks.
>>
>>60886015
>>60886014
Isn't replacing switches hard ? I thought it required resoldering and shit (I know everyone should know how to do that, but we don't live in a perfect world)
Also, don't seem to find any gaterons locally, but I guess ordering online was always my only choice in mech keyboards anyway
>go to local electronics shop(washing machines, fridges, keyboards, mice, basically everything for regular people) wondering if I might find a mech keyboard on display to try out at least some kind of switches
>there's only some Razer keyboard that uses proprietary switches
>>
>>60886015
Also is the tactile bump really so bad for gaming, since you're replacing WASD
>>
>>60886092
It is hobby,I love to game on browns but you will want to try something fresh after time.
To buy new kb is opinion, but poor bastard like me can just swap keycaps/switches/cable and do paint job .

Browns are actually underestimated for gaming.
>>
>>60886285
Well that gives some peace, what about this >>60886058
is changing switches somehow easier than I thought ?
>>
>>60886309
depends. If there is no mounting plate then you don't need to desolder the switches
>>
>>60886373
Hm? You'll probably need to desolder the switches regardless of whether they're attached to a plate or not. The few keyboards with removable switches are usually labeled as such, e.g. this chinkshit: https://www.amazon.com/E-Element-Mechanical-Water-Resistant-Swappable-Anti-Ghosting/dp/B01K3Y04N0
>>
>>60875536
Code boxes are white and say Code on then, not WASD
>>
>Budget
Let's keep this flexible, I'd want to buy a quality product that I will use for a long time, but no nonsense like >200$
No very cheap chinkshit too, but of course lower price is better than higher price
>Location

>Switch type
Gateron Browns
>Layout

100%, extra keys not needed, but can be there
>Backlight
I would prefer yes, but not necessary
>Previous/current
Logitech K120, no real experience with mechanical keyboards
I know this is very broad but basically what I want is a mid-high quality full keyboard with gateron browns and possibly backlight, that is available to Europe, from Europe
Also, would I make a huge mistake if I'd get DAS 4 with MX Browns, DAS Keyboards seem to be high quality, but only offer mx blues and browns(afaik)
>>
>>60880877
>>60880963
Where can I find a 65% sized bad or case?
I could probably scavenge something mildly adequate around the house but I'd be much more satisfied with something keyboard-shaped and keyboard-sized.
>>
>>60886753
Ducky if you want the hardware and software features, full size magicforce if you want something cheap with good build quality, or Leopold if you want the build quality
>>
>Budget
Up to 100-130€, can take a look at cheaper chink options, if they're there
>Location
EU
>Switch type
Browns, can take Reds if they aren't possible
>Layout
Anything goes
>FF
TKL, was thinking full size, but decided I don't use the numpad that often
>Backlight
Yes, preferably blue or rgb option for solid blue
>Current
25€ rubber one

>Extras
Minimalistic chassis design, audio passthrough would be nice to have, but isn't a necessity
>>
>>60887154
Out of those 3, only magicforce seems to offer gaterons

>>
>>60887154

Also does magicforce offer only one full keyboard? I only seem to find the same keyboard but with different switches, not that it's bad, but I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything, since they don't exactly show up on google too easily

>Browns
Why do dumb newfags fall for this meme? Is there some normie site that recommends this shit or something? I bet there's some guide or blog that recommends people who are new to mech kbs to buy that shit because it doesn't do anything well and might resemble some OEM keyboard or something.

What a waste of money.
>>
>>60887602
just fuck me up
>>
>>60888789
what exactly do you like about it? it's just your run-of-the mill color scheme with some accented keys thrown in. you can buy these few extra orange keys for $10-15 max.

keycap shape and material used is your regular shit tho.
>>
>>60888706
Every normie guide I've seen has some variation of "if you're unsure, get browns as they're the middle ground and the safest choice". All of them completely neglect to mention that the "middle ground" isn't the best of all worlds, but rather the worst.
>>
>>60888835
does the font have a name?
>>
>>60876384

>>
>>60878583
Gat and Cherry browns are very light switches both at 45g. Therefore they have a very light return force which makes them good for holding keys down for an extended period (like in gaming).

I have cherry browns and love how light they are, it feels like you just glide across them when typing.

Ducky and Cooler Master are great mid range keyboards. If you want something cheaper there are a few Costar boards that go on sale for 60 bucks like the Rosewill 9000v2
>>
>>60891394
What's wrong with it
>>

>>
>>60891538
what do you want out of your keyboard?
what is your price range?

I'm not the other poster, but I do not think corsair is worth the premium they charge. Their products are great at giving the illusion of quality, while usually having awful durability.
>>
>>60891602
Too expensive for the features that they offer. In the last thread someone spent close to $220 for one, while a Cooler Master keyboard with the same features and better build quality was 80 bucks less
>>
