Guys I need your advise
Chilean poorfag here. So after looking a good phone for a fair price I ended up with the Mi5s plus. Good battery life, has good audio, fast charging, more than fast for its price, I don't give a fuck about the camera, no problem with the bands, so pretty much pic related. But desu with you I don't know much about smartphones so thats why I am here. Whats your opinion about it? should I go for it?

So as far as I can see it, the differences are minimal, I mean hell whats the difference between all that shit if I will just use the phone for music, storage my staffs and maybe use the thing to modify PDFs and power point's presentations?
The Mi5s plus cost $100 more, so if with the MI5s I get almost the same, am sold.
Mi5s also support lineage OS:
http://www.lineageosrom.com/2017/01/download-lineage-os-for-xiaomi-mi5s.html
I read a lot about it here but I don't know what it is, I assume is a good thing, plus if I can go botnet free >>60845245 I'll do some research about it.
Again, an opinion of you guys is always welcome.
>>
>>60861142
What about the 4gb RAM 64gb ROM optional?
>>
>>60861610
1GB more RAM won't really make a noticeable improvement, double the storage is nice but as you have expandable storage 32gb isn't bad either

then again the price difference is only about $30, so either way it's not a huge difference

Light use mostly, browsing the internet, listening to music/podcasts, etc. No games.

Honestly even a $100 phone will handle use that just fine so it's really down to your preferences. 5.5" vs 5.2", amoled vs LCD etc. With your budget I'd be also looking at Moto Z Play and Honor 8. Any of those phones will easily last a few years.

Lots of people use their old phones as separate media players. Particularly useful if you have an old phone with a good DAC in it - shove a big microSD card in it and you're good to go. There are tech sites online with huge lists of uses for secondary phones.

Rooting can be incredibly useful depending on what you want to do. Too many uses to list but, basically, it gives you complete, total control of your device. If you really are interested in doing it then you're lucky you want to do it on a Moto G4; Motorola is a total bro company and outright HELPS you unlock the bootloader, one of the main steps of rooting. Samsung doesn't do that.
>>
>>60862844
Any reason to get it over an axon 7 other than the price?
>>
>>60862852
All those phones are still new enough for the manufacturer to be releasing updates for them. You only need to flash LineageOS or another custom once the official support is over.

If installing a custom ROM is something you're interested in doing in the future I'd forget the Honor 8, it uses Huawei's in-house Kirin SoC which means it gets less ROMs developed for it.

My phone is dying (Z730)
>keeps saying I have unauthorized software so phone is locked

>>
I am eyeing the S7. does a superior phone in the price range exist?
>>
>>60867012

>>
I would like help deciding between a Galaxy S7 and Xperia X Compact. I like the cameras on both, but would I lose out on the S7's nice camera by switching it to Lineage OS? I was also considering the Pixel for the support, but I plan on recording a lot of video and would prefer expandable memory.
>>
>>60867092
I'd also like to add that I'm not worried about cash, it's more about these all having different features. I like the compactness of the Xperia, but I can't make that great of a comparison of image quality with the S7. I don't care for the incremental improvement of the 8. Pixel got dropped because no expandable storage.
>>
>>60866653
Depends what you're going to do with it.
If you're just going to use it to store your music collection it doesn't matter much. Get the cheapest one and move on with your life.

But if you're going to set your camera app to save photos and record videos to it you want a fast one, especially if you're recording at 4k or 1080p60. The same goes if you want to put your apps on it, the faster the better. For these purposes there's a world of difference between a shitty slow card and a good fast one.
>>
>>60867092
The camera wouldn't be as good on LineageOS, Samsung's camera code is proprietary so it cannot be used in custom ROMs. It's the same for most manufacturers , but some release the code so that custom ROMs can also use the camera fully.

Comparing camera quality on the stock ROM the S7 is quite a bit better than the X Compact. The Google Pixel camera is rated higher than the S7 in most reviews. The lack of expandable storage isn't that huge of an issue as the Pixel supports USB OTG so you can just plug in a USB-C flash drive or a regular USB drive with a adaptor to move files off the phone.
>>
Anyone have experience with the noubia Z17?? Good bad?
>>
>>60867294

I pretty much don't care about any of the other specs, but I'd rather buy a 2017/16 phone than a used one. Not true. My 'good friend' chinaman gives 12 months warranty.
Better companies also stand behind their products, so they will repair it as long as you have a receipt and it's genuine.
>>
>>60868163
No local warranty I should have said. With a chink warranty you have to ship it back to China for repair/replacement. Also in my experience most companies do not honor the warranty (or are legally required to) if the phone was purchased abroad.

My S6 Active got stolen by Mongolians. It was my dream phone besides the bloat and I need a new phone for the rest of my trip. Ideally I'd just buy a new one in the states but that isn't an option. I'm expecting to buy a phone in Hong Kong but I need it to work in USA as well. Assuming my price range is as much as an S8, what are my options similar to the S6 active?

Most chinkphones don't have the bands to get LTE in US but there's a few exceptions. LeEco Le S3, Le Max 2 and Le Pro 3 all have full support for T-mobile, a few chinkphones have Band 4 AWS which should mean pretty good coverage on T-Mobile (no voLTE though)

Looking for a replacement for my ancient-ass Galaxy S3. Will be purchasing unlocked, don't want to spend anymore than $700 CAD (~$550 USD) looking for a decently large battery, good rear camera and an SD card slot. Was looking at the LG G5, but after seeing all of the shit about its bootlooping issues I'm not too sure on it anymore. Also, I wasn't a huge fan of my S3, a lot of bloat and it slowed down way quicker than I was expecting. It also wiped 2 of my SD cards on me and needs to be restarted every day or 2 because of issues with data access through the SD slot. Would be willing to give Samsung another shot if their newer phones are actually improvements though. Any suggestions?
>>
>>60877900
Check out the LG G6, bootloop issues are pretty much nonexistent so far and can supposedly be found pretty cheap online
Galaxy S7 is definitely an improvement and may suit your needs as well

Is that the same as "didn't have a surveillance program"? We can go back years and compare all kinds of bad shit our governments did, but that's pointless. Point is, your online rights are *actively* being violated by your own government and will likely continue to be more and more violated until you have no online rights left, whereas Canada is working to extend and preserve online rights instead of breaking them down.

Feel free to play with battery slider/set minimum mAh you need.
Also you can set size, etc.
Cheapest won't be too reliable though. Though Oukitel was mostly OK when it comes to that iirc. (but shitty camera)

Maybe you'd be better off with music player, cheapest smartphone right now seems to be 32USD, doubt anything below 50 will be good.

The S8+ is also set to 1080p by default, you gotta set it to 1440p from the settings

do you have to ask the store you buy your Xiaomi device, to keep the box sealed and not install any global rom and/or google play store app?

If it's a model that comes with the global ROM out of the box (like Redmi Note 4 Global for example) they'll send it in a sealed box. If it's a model that has the Chinese ROM out of the box (such as Redmi Note 4X) they'll usually open the box and flash the global ROM, unless you request a sealed box.

Some sellers open all boxes to check the phone is fully working before shipping.
