Battery life shouldn't be an issue. Since it hardly does much in the background unlike gapps.

Most of the common google services/apps work with it (YouTube, Maps, etc.) There's a list of compatible apps on the wiki.

There is one caveat, though. You'll need a ROM that supports signature faking.

Hey, I have an s5 now and thought it was a great phone (other than touchwiz). I'm up for a new phone soon, but haven't really seen anything that has perfect for me. Granted, I haven't done much research yet, but was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

Again, consider the Moto G5 Plus, it's pretty budget specs but it shouldn't be much of an issue unless you play intense 3D games or such. It's fairly cheap on Amazon if you have Prime, $189 for the 32gb/2gbRAM version with Amazon ads

It was working fine and then the screen went black. Battery was around 70%
I was able to get something out of it when i held the power button for a while. It would show the startup screen for a few seconds and go black again. I havnt been able to get that screen since last night though. I left it on the charger over night, but the phone is still unresponsive.

None of these are known for having good custom ROM support (I assumed you were in the US so I specified band 4 LTE). Hey thanks, I didn't quite understand what it meant with "google app" but apparently that was the search bar on the home screen which I managed to remove with some hassle because the message kept popping up every damn second.
