Too many to remember, honestly.

I'm generally looking for some cheap but good headphones to use at work, I'd love to have bluetooth but it's not a strict requirement. I want good noise isolation/noise canceling as I don't want to leak music while working to not inconvenience coworkers. Budget is low, I know, so I don't expect perfect quality. Just good price/quality ratio I guess, if possible. Might go a bit higher than that if there are good suggestions.

My drivers won't reinstall for the Logitech G930 and it is wireless so it can't use the default windows drivers, and now I am ordering the Logitech G230 because I can't find the drivers for the G930 anywhere. Does anyone have any experience with the G230s? How are they?

I just got my new dac/amp in and working after setting it up, but after turning it off and on again, there is no sound coming to my headphones anymore.
Windows is telling me there is sound, my device is the default one, yet I'm not getting anything.
Drivers are up to date too.

M40x? MDR-V6/MDR-7506 is good too but you can't jog with those. If you double your budget you can get the PM-3 which would give you what you want.

I've tried my friend's G230; Shit sounded like NiggaBassy, compressed garbage compared to my Superlux HD 681's at the time. Clamp was loosey goosey on my small head and the cups felt like big kiddie pools made of gym shorts around my ears. They're decent for the price if you absolutely need a fixed headphone and mic combo.

I think I'd prefer the 770 for desktop use, but the M40x would be better for jogging.

I'm going to stop recommending the DT770 as this is now available, there isn't much feedback on it as yet but it seems better.

Can anyone help me decide on IEMs or maybe on ears? Budget somewhere around $50 but willing to go up too $100 if worth it for the sound.

Here are the IEMs I'm looking at. I will use them in the gym also, but sound quality is number one priority. I listen to mostly like Alt rock, shoegaze, indie, new wave, grunge, etc. But I also listen to hip-hop and rap fairly often so yeah.

MEE audio M6 PRO $49
SoundMAGIC E80 Reference $74.99
Zero Audio Tenore $42
FiiO EX1 $60
Shure SE-215K $89

Or should I get some headphones, like on ear, and use cheaper like $10 Panasonics in the gym? Only thing is like, I don't like how headphones put a like mark across the top of my hair where they were sitting. But I guess I could get over it but I'd maybe rather just wear IEMs. But if the sound difference is worth it I'm down to get on ears or even over the ears.

But yeah I was also looking at Grado SR60e and SR80e. I'm also wanting to get a DAC in the future too.
>>
>>60781165
M6 PRO is better than SE215, I owned both.
Don't have experience with the other IEMs.
>>
>>60781165
You can get some cheap KSC75 for home use if you hate headbands, they sound just as good as the Grados for very little money. The $10 Panasonics are insanely good IEMs too, but if you're doing a lot of movement they'd fall out of your ears.

This long winded reply is for my experience with the ATH-M50x and Sennheiser HD598.
Just got ATH-M50xs after 3 years of using Sennheiser HD598s and the out of box sound of the M50x is better but my day one experience with the HD598 was so positive.

I DO NOT like the stock ear pads the m50s come with because they're shitty PU leather with even cheaper foam inside, I bought a velour memory foam to replace them on amazon, not only for comfort but to actually hear myself when I'm talking. I got so used to it because of my Sennheisers that I'm just uncomfortable in every chat I'm in.

After 3 years I didn't actually need new headphones but just wanted something different so I decided to get the headphones that are absolutely OVERRATED but they turned out alright. I just needed to spend that $20 extra on better earpads and I think these will be great headphones for years to come.
>>
>>60781904

tfw 3 of the leather headband replacements you bought from sennheiser have fallen apart with minimum usage so you say fuck sennheiser and just superglue them back together.
>>
>>60784917
>measurements
They can be very misleading.
The coupler is too far off of any representation of the ear canal load to be corrected for. You can roughly locate local min-max points, but the shape is going to be all wrong.

>>60784946
>clearer when amped
The purpose of an amplifier is to amplify, normally without undesired artifacts. Being clearer would only happen if the electronics you used to power the headphone were in overload.
>>
>>60785336
What about cans with high resistance that a PC can't power though? Are those types of headphones not common?

I'm certain I've seen multiple reviews of headphones before along the lines of "these sound decent but sounded much clearer after I bought an amp for them". I just assumed that an amp was pretty much a necessity for high end headphones.
>>
>>60785436
People make the same claim with cables. Chances are any positive effects from including an amplifier are because you're just playing things louder than before. As long as the headphones are getting enough power from a source with a low output impedence, they'll almost always sound the same.

hf5. Etymōtic Research has probably the best noise isolation in the industry and their IEMs have a pretty neutralish sound signature. These are great for studying if you're a sperg or have ADHD and have the misfortune of attending a university where the students don't respect library quiet rules even when told to shut the fuck up, they're basically musical earplugs (not to be confused with musician's earplugs, which they also sell).

Thoughts on HD 579?
Would be my first "proper" headphones and are about at the top of my price range.
Are there any better open back headphones for a similar price?
>>
what the fuck is going on? I bought mr850's like a month or two ago and just tonight I noticed that something was missing, like a certain low frequency, I'm thinking sub-bass, like it just got turned down somehow but the rest stayed neutral, It's the same result when I listen to something on my phone, so i'm pretty sure that it's the headphones and not some virus or accidental movement in the equalizer. Has anyone experienced this? How can I fix this?

I have a question
So I have a pair of akg k553 pro that I've had for about a year and a half or so and they are starting to show some wear. I see that they are back up on massdrop and I was considering just getting me a new pair or ask if there's any other headphones like that /g/ thinks is nice?
The main reason for getting them was comfort. comfort. comfort.
They are comfy just fucking huge as fuck. Should I get new pair or just replace the cushions because they are pretty worn?
Also how do you anons clean your headphones?

As far as an amp, Fulla 2 is the way to go, but you may not need one if you go 80 ohm. Modern mobos have pretty good sound cards.
Even my s5 drives them decently, but there isn't much headroom.
>>
>>60787908
Cant imagine you'll like them for long term listening.
Just make sure you get some replacement pads that are similar thickness like dt250 or MSR7 pads to preserve the sound signature.

I usually recommend the CB-1 over m40 as their pads are crazy comfy stock and sound just as good with a 3.5 detachable instead of 2.5.

How open are you to ordering something with a radically different sound that you may love/hate and returning it if you don't like it?

I think you should try the dt990. I came from the ath-m50 that I bought when it was legitimately the best value on the market in 2009 and was blown away. You can get a 990 for like 125 sometimes. Pretty sure there are other headphones in the same class as the m50($150, closed, portable, low power) that are just objectively superior at this point but I'll defer to the other faggots in here for that.
>>
>>60788164
I would be open to it. I got the easy return on the Modas because of Guitar Center carrying them in stock. Has anyone ever tried the Sennheiser HD8's? I'm looking for something with the DJ feel, but hopefully not too muddy. I'm ok with extra bass, in fact I think the m50x's are a little lacking on that, but their clarity is awesome.

Thanks for the reply man.

Comfortable. I would sacrifice some sound quality for this. I'd be wearing them at work for multiple hours.

I would just grab a pair of portapros but unless we have a lot to talk about, my coworkers just use IM to ask each other questions. as such, being able to hear what theyre doing is more of a distraction than a necessity. I don't keep my music loud so some sound leaking shouldn't be an issue.

I do sound design and mixing.

My preferences are the Audio Technica M50x and the Focal Spirit professional reference.

Anything above that and we're talking about some serious money. I know guys who use 2000 dollar headphones for stereo correlation, along with the 8000 dollars worth of studio monitors. But the AT's and Focal's are flat and clear enough for what I need to do.

I prefer my monitors for mixing/listening. Pic related.

If you buy really flat headphones, you will never need to EQ and get to hear what the mixer wanted you to hear.

Focal Spirits are some of the flattest headphones out there. Regardless of that, every single set of headphones are different. This is the reason you use calibration software like:

If you don't know what sound you prefer then give us songs/type of music that you mostly listen to. Memeanswer, HD600, good with weeb music, good to excellent in everything except for sub bass, enough in everything but electronic music, and no soundstage, but good imaging aka you can locate where the sound is coming from.
>>
>>60793323
>Is it as comfortable as the 598's?
I have both. The HD600 clamped like a motherfucker the first few days, but after a month it was already more comfortable than the HD598.
>I probably wouldn't be picking up an AMP/DAC, I honestly don't even know how to use them, so being able to plug and play with the pair would be pretty important to me
HD600 will just work when plugged anywhere. If you're not getting enough volume or if you hear a noise floor, them your source sucks.
Still, know that DAC+AMP combos like the schiit fulla2 or the modi+magni stack are plug and play.
>why HD600
They're very neutral and make excellent all rounders.
>>
Sup, I'd like to know whether this is psychoacoustics or if there could be such a difference. I usually run my HD600s out of my MacBook air's 3.5mm out w/ a converter on the cable. I easily get a good volume and it sounds great, so i haven't felt the need for an amp. I'm from college for summer, and have access to my old, pretty good speaker amp (Yamaha A-S500) seems to make my HD-600s sound a lot better in many ways. Could it be the 6.4 to 3.5mm converter that's making it sound worse? I can't take my speaker amp w/ me since it's pretty big and I have to take a flight back. Is it worth buying a Schiit Magni? Will it sound as good as the Yamaha? I can't really do an ABX test desu.

My AKG K701s are finally starting to develop problems, guess they're getting old and worn out (had to resolder the connections in both ears, some plastic bits broke like the screwholes in the ears and the plastic part of the headband, wire frayed to shit where it enters the headphones and I had to cut that part out and just directly solder and glue the wire inside, etc.).

What's a good replacement to look into getting that offers about the same "feel"? I love the really flat sound these have, and I'd like something at least on par with them. Open ear like the 701s, since otherwise I get mad headaches.

Budget is anything under like $450, and I'm in leafistan so I can buy from burger amazon/newegg/etc.
>>
>>60794223
Just because you get a good volume out directly from a shitty non-amped audio out doesn't mean it's properly driving your headphones. You're probably missing out on a lot of frequencies that would be present through your actual amp. Just get a headphone amp, can get some pretty cheap ones that work well.
>>
>>60794332
HD 600/DT880/K702
Why fix what isn't broken (Except this one time)
>>
>>60794332
Are you able/willing to buy used? If you look around for a little bit, and maybe up your budget a little, you could buy HD 800s which is absolutely end game sound (barring really summit stuff like SR009s or Focal Utopia) for that "archetype" of headphone. Absolutely airy, detailed, neutral response. I don't have a pair myself, but have borrowed it for a week at a time from a friend in the past, and am saving for it as my next upgrade. If not, you could buy HD 6XXs for less than your budget, and upgrade another component with the remaining budget. They don't really have the same huge soundstage or airiness though.

That said, imo consider a pair of speakers if possible. You can get a really solid pair of active monitors, or bookshelfs with a budget amp for 450 bucks, and no headphone can approach the airiness and soundstage of speakers.
>>
>>60794332
>Budget is anything under like $450, and I'm in leafistan so I can buy from burger amazon/newegg/etc.
Your budget is more than sufficient for HD600, so I suggest you grab these.
>>
>>60794223
>seems to make my HD-600s sound a lot better in many ways.
Could be high output impedance at fault which causes an increase in bass response.
>>
>>60794488
Shouldn't affect the HD600 as much, however, as the headphones themselves are at some 300Ω.
>>
>>60794488
>high output impedance

I'm running these out of the "Phones" slot on the front, not through the speaker outs, so I doubt this would be the case, no?
>>
>>60794508
They just add a resistor to the speaker amp when using headphones to reduce the amount of current being used. This affects the response of some headphones, some aren't affected like M50x.
>>
>>60794223
If you are in US you can try schiiiiiit stack and return it within week or so, same as in Europe. I tried element vs my mac, I could easily hear improvement, esp in the bass as it became less loose and tight, also everything else sounded more 'clean'.
>>
>>60794223
Just... get a headphone amp. If you can afford it (chances are you can) just go Schiit Stack (modi+magni, possibly uber) and call it a day. Else, the fulla2 is excellent performance and functionality while being small, usb powered and cheap.
>>
>>60794460
I'm too much of a fag to get speakers, even living alone in an apartment I'd be worried that other people could hear, doesn't even matter what I'm listening to. As for HD800s, they seem to run for around $1k monopoly monies, so I could probably save up for them in the longer run. I actually just found some k701s still in stock at some places for only $250~, so I might just pick up a new pair of the same cans, even.

What's up with the K712s, anyway? They look bass boosted to fuck, and have none of the response of the 701/702 that made them good.
>>
>>60794605
>sounded more 'clean'

Yeah, this is exactly how I would describe the sound from the Yamaha, but I have no idea if it's just from expectation bias, since I can't really AB. Is there any way to match volumes from the two outputs, barring buying an SPL meter?

>>60794637
True enough, but I doubt I should get a DAC. I don't really hear any distortion, would it be necessary?

That's precisely why you should get a DAC+AMP combo. To be sure. With something like the fulla2, you'll have a reference good source to compare everything else against.

Sucks. In that case I would go with something from AKG, but I've heard pretty bad things about their customer support and stuff. You could look at the ATH R70X, or some other open AT models, which are underrated imo, especially as open and airy headphones.

FUCKING LOUD! Seriously, my dad needs hearing aids and doesn't give a shit as long as they are halfway decent

Like I said, these are a birthday present for my dad. He is not an audiophile. He tested my hd598's and thought they are "too quit".

So, I'm basically looking for some half decent, loud as fuck wireless headphones under 50€. Wireless, because he dances like a maniac when he listens to music.

Thanks in advance.

>what were they thinking
This market that will suck it up regardless because "it sounds good to me" or "it's different". The is response is surprisingly consistent.

>>60797206
That's extremely subjective. For me HD 800 was the choice. Not because they sounded great but because they were remarkably comfortable, response was stable and I was handy with a parametric equalizer on the single device I will be using them with.

Buy an amp. That's what he needs more than else.
>>
>>60797623
I don't think anything wireless is going to be loud enough. Your best bet is something wired along with an amplifier so he can make it as loud as he could possibly want.
>>
>>60797825
Thanks for the suggestion, but nope.
He does not have any headphones right now. I won't invest in an amp because he explicitly asked me for wireless headphones and deep as my understanding goad, this doesn't work out.

He also gives a shit about audio quality. They should not sound like tin cans, that's all.

Sorry if this sounds angry, but please reflect upon your sentence. You are talking from a high horse.

>No, he doesn't need an amp. He's a dad and a pleb audio listener that doesn't even know what an amp is.

>No, wireless is not exlusivly bad if you don't need audiophile quality or have customers with low expectations.

And don't tell me "I never said wireless is bad, you said it."
Yeah, but you thought it while you wrote this sentence. I know it. There is no denying it. You are the kind of person that is in every "PC Building general" thread who tells people to get an i7 when all they really need for what they do is an i3. I seriously don't like people like you.

Thanks for your answer, I appreciate it, but we would never become friends in real life.

Just went down to guitar center and bought a pair of Custom Studios after my 5-year pair of ath-m50x headphones have been falling apart. They still work, so I'm able to switch back and fourth and Here's my opinion:

PROS: All the highs and mids are still there from the 50x's, but the bass response is what the 50x's should have had. They do have adjustments on each earcup which i believe change the acoustics rather than an electronic change. This allows you to tune out that extra bass response if you like. The Studios are a lot more comfortable, and have velour earcups stock, which i had to buy or my 50xs. Clamping force is a lot less and there is an indent missing from the headband on the studios where your head usually rests. This causes the pressure to be distributed a lot more across the headband.

CONS: They are higher impedance then the 50xs which means you need a solid source to power them. I'm listening from a macbook pro and it's not hurting at max volume, but plenty loud. I don't own an amp of any kind and i would consider the outpur from a Nexus 5X too quiet, but still sounds good. I have a Focusrite USB audio interface on my desktop and that powers these well.

TL;DR: Custom Studios have better bass response without being muddy and have a better build, but consider your listening sources.

:D

HD800 is very consistent on listeners' heads as opposed to the HD600/HD650, in which the treble response can vary depending on positioning.

HD800 will sound fine out of most motherboards. It doesn't need a dedicated amp.
