This thread is for the discussion of Nyaa replacements.
The aim of this project is to write a fully featured nyaa.se replacement that anyone will be able to deploy locally or remotely.

FAQ
>https://pastebin.com/Gq9MrJN5 (embed)

>Why is Pantsu down/error 502?
Most likely because the team is deploying changes. Wait for a bit and refresh the page. It should be mostly stable now.

What do you mean by that? Cartel shill. Are you mad that your shitty site is not included in the OP?

It was made after the old thread went over the bump limit.

nyaa.si does not include transparency reports nor db dumps.

You're the cartel shill here snowfag. Your posting style gives you away.

In /g/ new generals are created after the bump limit at 310 posts.

Don't you mean invite the nyaazi shills like yourself to shitpost the new thread?
These threads are now purely for pantsu discussion. Nyaazi shills can fuck off, that means you.
>>
>>60693106
This was inserted by the faggot alucard here https://rbt.asia/g/thread/60476111
Before that we had threads like https://rbt.asia/g/thread/60443777/#60443777, https://rbt.asia/g/thread/60438165/#60438165, https://rbt.asia/g/thread/60432778/#60432778 and many more. That is until that tripfag fucked it up.

I am upset about this bullshit as I hoped for a distributed replacement and the IPFS one seemed like the best bet.
>>
>>60693252
He added the change for the better of the thread. Now nyaazi shills aren't welcomed to shitpost in the thread because the thread is purely for the discussion of pantsu development. There is no need to discuss other torrent sites in these threads.
The distributed replacement and IPFS, are both within the scope of pantsu development, so you can still discuss them here and they are not affected in anyway.
The only thing that's affected by this change in OP is that nyaazi shills are no longer welcomed. That was the whole point of the change in the first place.
>>
>>60693248

This desu.

We are at war with the cartel need to win if we want to become the official replacement.

Death to nyazi shills!
>>
>>60693277
>He added the change for the better of the thread
No, the first time he added that the threads became full of shit. It's like he invites shitposting.

>Now nyaazi shills aren't welcomed to shitpost in the thread because the thread is purely for the discussion of pantsu development
Also people who support distributed replacements are not welcomed, even though they started posting in there threads before pantsu existed.

>The distributed replacement and IPFS, are both within the scope of pantsu development
No it is not, after all it is not pantsu, they are different replacements.

>The only thing that's affected by this change in OP is that nyaazi shills are no longer welcomed
They post anyway, in fact this sentence invites them.
Alucard tried to insert that thing a second time because he was butthurt that people did not welcome his change the first time.

If you do think that it is necessary to exinclude si in the OP the we can simply add ."*.si not welcome" in it, without exincluding other replacements.

>>60693289
I hope it does not become the official replacement. The official replacement needs to be distributed and free of censorship.

It has always been pantsu's goal to be a distributed replacement, including IPFS implementation.
How about you actually read these threads before you spout bullshit you just made up.
Stop replying to me if you're going up make up shit when you clearly have not been following these threads at all.
>>
>>60693428
Unsure if this is a cartel shill or a CR shill.
>>
>>60693428
That sounds great! I was really worried about using any kind of nyaa site. They seem to be illegal and that one nyaa.si looks like they might have malware. I'm gonna go make a crunchyroll account right now. I have so much to catch up on! Thanks!!!
>>
>>60693450
Been reading these threads since the start. Pantsu is a centralised replacement, the dev wants in the future to make it decentralised but right now pantsu is centralised and any new decentralised project or the IPFS project are not related to pantsu.
>>
>>60693492
>any new decentralised project or the IPFS project are not related to pantsu.
They are, because all discussions about decentralization or IPFS are refering to the development of pantsu and it's future goals.

does anyone honestly believe pantsudev will manage to create a decentralized version if he can't even make a normal one?
>>
>>60693524
How difficult is it for you to understand that not all nyaa replacement projects are relevant to pantsu? The original offline database reading thing wasn't, the original IPFS project wasn't, something new that someone might make tomorrow might not be.
>>
>>60693551
I believe that he might be able to do it, with an extremely buggy version in 2 or so years maybe. I am pretty sure that it is an extremely low priority for him.
>>
>>60693524
>>60693551
This shit's only gonna happen with gnunet and anyone saying different either have a new protocol or quit shilling shit that just isn't gonna work. Yeah, gnunet is a fucktarded mess that has a fuckton of work left to do. At least the foundation for it to support this kind of stuff is there. The other "newnet" protocols are just stopgaps and were mostly intended as cp distribution methods(prove me wrong).
>>
>>60693590
>and anyone saying different either have a new protocol
How about NNTP and IPFS?
>>
>>60693608
Still not intended for this kind of thing. iirc those require a user to download fuck huge amounts of data, essentially part of the net as a whole, to their disk, just to participate. It won't gain traction, it won't scale among normal users, it would require more resources than a niche community is willing or able to devote.
Fuck, just look at the shitstains that the nyaapocalypse has highlighted. One (pantsu) tries to go the good for all route, the other is the all for us route. There's a serious conflict of interest for what this shitshow is all about...ANIME. To a greater extent, the internet as a whole. Does anyone get it now?!
Probably not, fucking retards.
>>
>>60693716
>those require a user to download fuck huge amounts of data
This is false, to my knowledge IPFS does not need that and NNTP definitely does not need that.
That would be the case with gnunet and freenet as far as I know.
>>
>>60693743
what are blockchains?
>>
>>60693787
Something like a linked list of hashes. A blockchain could be used for a torrent site like nyaa but am not sure how well it would work. Blockchains also have the same problem, you need to download all the blockchain in order to add something.
>>

If I try to directly download the video, the terminal tells me that its just an introduction video, however no video file gets downloaded.

If I try to download the episode with my username and password it returns a 503 error.

After trying to download with my login credentials, if I try to download the video by omitting my username and password, I end up with a .ass file.

Is this the aftermath of the HS spam? All those repeated torrents were uploaded by the now banned HS scraper bot.
By the way what the fuck is up with the date not fitting in its own column? It looks like that even in the torrent description page.

No, that's from a couple of days from before the spam.
I guess that's when pantsudev testing the scraper without checking duplicate or something.

I guess it's because you use NoScript or something?

Imagine that you were actually a person who watched and enjoyed watching anime, to the point that you followed seasonal shows, wanted to watch new episodes as soon as possible, and appreciated English fansubs. Filled width layouts are usually bad on widescreen monitors. It's the difference between having to read a book and being able to skim a list. The former you have to move your eyes left-to-right before up and down, which is what happens when text is stretched across a wide monitor. The latter is just up and down, which makes it easier to read.
>>
Serious question from someone who doesn't watch anime: from what I understand, this project is a small /g/ circlejerk, and the other site is much bigger and better. What's wrong with letting the /g/ crowd have their tracker to play with then? It's not like it poses a big threat, or does it?

>>
>>60699997
Nyaazi isn't bigger or better. More fansub groups upload to it because they're part of a close knit group that /a/ calls The Cartel. That will matter less over time as Pantsu scrapes all of their content, leaving Pantsu with its own content along with the content of everyone else. It's the same reason ffmpeg is better than libav, even though the cartel of distro developers tried their absolutely fucking hardest to make sure libav won out by making it the default and forcing it down everyone's throat.

>What, you're trying to prove that pantsu is shit, right?

Actually, I'm not. I use OVA fansubs as an objective measure of successful adoption of an anime torrent tracker, and as a measure of independence from the cartels. It's a kind of fansub release that HorribleSubs does not have a monopoly on. Also, the major cartel groups don't touch them for a variety of petty reasons, including that most OVAs are DVD (or even web-rip) only, and they would rather not make a fansub at all than to have their translations associated with sub-bluray quality video.

When both Pantsu and Nyaa.si were new, I pointed out that Pantsu had translations for the New Game OVA and the second Umaru OVA before Nyaa.si. That was not apparently a trend, however, as can be seen with the second Gabriel Dropout OVA, and the fact that the PantsuDev and half a dozen of his followers were totally clueless about the problem indicates that it's a symptom of a much deeper issue.
>>
>>60700217
Cool, it was more on the whole decentralisation part though such as you would want to scrape any pantsu clones for any content that isn't uploaded and vice versa for if there are multiple, having a built-in scraper that pulls a list of pantsu RSS feeds would be useful for the future

Maybe I'm not seeing the big picture, but wouldn't that just put Pantsu in the same camp as Tokyo Tosho is now when/if Nyaa.si eventually goes down in the future or the owner pulls the plug unexpectedly like with Nyaa.se, but all over again? Neither Pantsu nor TT are actually torrent trackers. They just store magnet links to torrents hosted elsewhere. When Nyaa.si goes down, so will the majority of the torrents.

I don't usually do this, though. If someone searches for "Gabriel" shortly after the second OVA came out, like I did, then the English sub is going to be toward the top of the list anyway, since everything is sorted by date by default. It takes less time to just scan the top few items in a list with my eyes than it would to move my mouse to the "select category" dropdown menu, drop the menu down, select my desired category, and then redo the search. If you seriously think that shit is more efficient in this case, then you seriously need to reconsider continuing with your life.

Even in cases where the thing I'm searching for requires scrolling further down the list, it's easy enough for me to recognize the filenames and category colors with my eyes than it is to re-search with the category restricted.

You didn't redo the search.
You do it on your first search. After you open the index, and typing your search query, you move my mouse to the "select category" dropdown menu, drop the menu down, select my desired category, and then do the search.

If you have searched something a few times before, you should know that it's more efficient than scrolling through tons of raws and non-eng releases, then missing that new eng release in the middle because you lost focus for a second.

I know this question has been asked a lot of time but ... are the Japs fucking poor or what?
I upload the Walküre ga Tomaranai BDRIP which is fucking 40GB. And then 90% of the peers are Japs.
Even there fucking 7-11 sold these kind of thing, so why the fuck you have to download from a fucking 400lb neckbeard with shitty internet that will take at least 2 day to complete?
Isn't it faster if they jst fucking order it from amazon?

I never saw anime blurays in Japanese 7-11's when I lived there. A quick search on Amazon shows that this title isn't particularly cheap either, so I'm not sure where your attitude of "it's so easy to just buy it" comes from.

>>
>>60703415

>>
>>60703476
Private trackers are great at creating artificial "incentives" to upload. You can earn more gold points or karma if you upload and seed. With a public tracker, there is no incentive to seed for a particularly long time or at all, so most people don't do it. Those FILTHY LEECHERS!!

The drama isn't fatal to the website and comes from various sources, yourself primary among them.

The distinct lack of competence of the dev team and meeting any valid critiques with snide "patches welcome" and "back-end isn't really our thing ;p" remarks is what will eventually do you guys in. Already has, in my opinion. Nyaa.si has female devs and in spite of that, they still managed to make a site that's 100% more stable and does a better job of recreating nyaa.se's functionality as an actual tracker than your trainwreck. You should feel pretty bad about that.
>>
"Customizable mascots take priority over implementing a time-saving feature that nyaa.se had, showing comment statistics in the index. I don't want my site to turn into another Facebook." -PantsuDev

A question to the other members of the dev team: How do you defend this statement?
>>
>>60703564
That was the goal from the get-go - to make a distributed nyaa replacement. And distributed means everybody have to give something, including code submitting. If you wanted a centralized all-inclusive easy-peasy nyaa replacement - you should just choose nyaa.se.

>a torrent tracker doesn't save people time
Bullshit. I could download via XDCC or DDLs, but I choose not to because those methods are not streamlined and take more time. I could go to different non-specialized torrent trackers, but don't because I might have to try many different trackers before I find all of what I'm looking for. Everything about a torrent tracker is relevant to saving time.

>website development shouldn't be concerned with a simple, 40 px wide column that has no disadvantages and only saves users a bit of time and saves the site owner a bit of bandwidth
I will never cease to be amazed at the lengths that you dick-riders will go to defend PantsuDev's many, profound fuckups.

>>60703803
I was being ironically obtuse to make my own joke. H wasn't making a joke. He had a Freudian slip and conflated nyaa.se with nyaa.si, which kind of just goes to show how well nyaa.si is doing if even Pantsu proponents conflate it with the old website.

if you're uploading at much more than 600KB/s you should turn on initial seeding so you don't waste bandwidth on the leeches.

XDCC, DDLs, or even centralized trackers are all single points of failure which pantsu aims to avoid at all costs. When it become really decentralized and distributed, it'd take even more time and efforts to browse it, but it would be unkillable. So if you prioritize saving time - it's definitely not your cup of tea. If they wanted a reasonable compromise, they wouldn't be arguing about the same minute feature they want for the last 2 days. This is truly why I hate open projects, always someone that demands a future but will never want to participate themselves.
