My father just managed to click some ad which told him he had a message (because he was using Edge or whatever instead of Chrome which has uBlock Origin installed) and of course got a popup thing which imposed itself on the screen and grayed out the tabs.

Does every company need dedicated firewall? Or just regular router with NAT is sufficient?

ok, I work for a tech shop that also manges some small bussiness networks
I was tasked to draw network topography
so here is one of our clients, I cleared up lots from the labels to make it neutral and cleaner

as you see between LAN and WAN is only one router with openwrt
is that enough? should I try to convince for pfsense box?
what benefits does it bring?
they do use vpn and shit I think

I am new, but I feel like most people in the shop learned they shit as they go
dont get the impression of deep understanding, but they do know shit load of stuff than me
>>
>>60410861
NO.
Oh for fucks sake stop. Just stop, turn away if possible.

YOU do NOT want to be the guy that sets up and manages a firewall like this.
With the exception of buying actual pfsense gear and support, you are the sole recipient of all the lawsuits and shit fanning if the firewall is breached and the company is fucked.

And yes. Every company needs a dedicated firewall.

And if you have not noticed the infrastructure is setup, if we are on hook, we are on hook ALREADY, so just stop with /r/sysadmin uncontrollable bullshit where no one can ask anything without being told to tell boss off or find other job....

I want to bring in potential issue forward. But i need some facts.
They will higher contractor to deal with shit if theres actual need, but whats actually the case
whats the issue with just separating WAN/LAN with router
is openwrt too weak to handle this?
I assume some ports are open for remote managment, but there are no services facing the internet.

so whats the logic in going for more beefy pfsense than just having routers NAT as separation.

Honestly, when your software malfunctions you just re-install it, no problem. When your RAM malfunctions you swap it out, no problem, same with every other component. But when your PSU malfunctions it might end with a very literal house fire.

Your PSU should still be on warranty, high end thermaltakes have 7 years warranty. So make a use of that.

>eastern europe
Well fuck, why didn't you say so earlier?
In that case do whatever.

You must separate the Wan from the lan if you're on ipv4. You probably should with ipv6 as well.
As for security, yes, you want a firewall, and nat.

So basically your little openwrt box is all that's between your network and the Chinese. This is a good thing, as now your attack surface is just the openwrt OS and not the whole 20+ pcs.

Its probably fine, unless it's being overloaded. Pfsense is going to be a larger attack surface, so potentially less secure. But it can be put on hardware that is much faster.

>Is software written for let's say Linux 1.1 compatible with Linux 4.2?
kernelspace software (ie. modules/drivers) likely won't be compatible between major versions, as they don't go out of their way to support this
userspace software (normal applications and libraries) however, are intended to keep working between major versions
i haven't used linux for /that/ long, but i have run into a few really old linux programs, which still work

pic related, written in 1994, last updated in 2001, yet it compiles and runs fine (even to a 64bit executable!)
>>
>>60411883
No reason. It just needs to be reachable from the outside and be able to do whatever you want it to do. Probably pretty awkward on a desktop OS, and you'll probably be interacting with it through CLI from the outside anyway, unless you have some web interface for your torrent client (on the server) or something.

The question is, why waste resources on the GUI stuff if you're probably not going to use it anyway?

sure theres nothing bad with windows7 for that
but there are actually dedicated NAS systems that come out more comfortable to configure and manage through web interface and more easily deployed
for example you dont need HDD for syste, you use old small USB from which OS boots and whole HDD is only for storage...

freeNAS and nas4free are the ones I tried
google some youtube tutorials to see what they are about

2GiB should be 1.84GB.
16GiB should be 14.5~GB.
Hard drives have a spare zone to account for bad sector remapping.

Also it adds up.
1MB= 1024 KB, 1GB = 1024MB, 1TB = 1024 GB.
1MiB = 1000 KiB, 1 GiB = 1000MB, 1TiB = 1000GB.

1TB = 1099511627776 bytes
1TiB = 1000000000000 bytes

I've been trying out some entry level Linux distributions.

Now, I probably don't NEED a VPN, but /g/ has made me a paranoid wreck and I don't feel right when I don't use one for browsing, even if its just this shithole.

What would I need to do to set up a VPN on something like Mint or PureOS. The few VPN's that do support Linux only seem to have Ubuntu apps and I really don't care for Ubuntu. I also heard that you don't NEED the app to use a VPN, if you have an account you can set it up manually.

I guess I am asking for an incredibly friendly tutorial on how to do that.

Are burritos sandwiches? I would put hot pockets closer to burritos than traditional sandwiches. They share more similarities such as..
>the full wrapping of the interior
>Accompanied by a sauce or dressing instead of mayonnaise
if you think burritos are sandwiches then you have your answer. I believe that the question goes much deeper. I think that burritos should be in their own class and hot pockets are a hybrid between the two. Similar to a mixed race child the hot pocked is a mix of sandwich and burrito creating a delicious combination of the two.

Files are already uploaded. You would need to delete them off of the file share. Also since the files are on your computer you can view them offline.
>>
>>60414526
if you mean you turned off discovery and homegroup, then no, it's not a bug
turning off discovery just means it won't passively look for machines on your network, and homegroup is a separate sharing feature on top of the normal file sharing service

just;
network and sharing center > advanced sharing settings > turn off file a printer sharing
should be enough to disallow others from accessing shares on your computer

if you wish to disable the sharing service completely, go into
control panel > administrative tools > services
and disable "server"
this'll probably also mean you can't access shares on other people's machines though, not sure

2FA apps run on your phone? Meaning Google Authenticatior or similar 2FA code generators?

You root first, without formating, removing, deleting anything on your phone. Backup the app, install custom rom, reinstall the app.

I've been using the same 2FA app for 5+years.

You may use titanium backup or a similar app to backup the app.

A little thing I noticed with Windows 10 (Edu, by the way but I dont think it changes much) that bugs me off and I discovered when my internet connection was screwed over for two days due to maintance or something.

When connection was not running properly (Windows claimed it have connection but no site could load), trying to open videos or images using something else than basic viewer would take few seconds of delay. When connection was running fine, as normal, there was no delay. But if I would simply plug out the cable - no delay at all, everything works as normal, just like with working connection. OS was free of malware too.

Could somebody explain this weird behaviour? I mean, if Windows would want to connect to internet when launching Media Player Classic or HoneyView, wouldnt it experience "lag" with cable out, just like when connection was established in theory but in practice non functional?

My questions are,

If I want to mount the radiator to the front of the case, will the tubes going from the radiator to the pump be able to reach the CPU without issue and a lot of tension on them?

Also, both cases have 2 140mm front fans. If I set up the h115i as pull at front, will the 2 case fans work effectively as push fans on the front intake?

>>60410962
Depends. I don't think user mode makes much different. Windows has better support of older drivers because Linux is able to introduce new subsystems and update all the drivers in mainline to use it, while Windows has to be backwards compatible. Thats part of the reason why it takes 10-20 seconds for USB keyboard to be usable after plugging it into a windows box so it's not really a bad thing.

If there is nothing physically wrong with your hardware (hdd/ram), then your registry is fucked in some way. Probably some corrupted Windows system files. You can try putting in a windows installation disk to repair the files, but there is a high chance that it won't find everything and you'll still get blue screened occasionally.

So back up your data, get your USB drivers on a disk, with the rest of your drivers on a USB drive, and do a clean installation. When it asks you on which partition/drive you want to save your new Windows system files, make sure you delete and reformat absolutely everything.
>>
>>60410960
You need a new hard drive.
>>
>>60410960
run a hard drive test and if it passes open a command prompt as administrator and type "sfc /scannow" and see if your system files are corrupted
>>
>>60414757

TL;DR: Once you know how to read the code and understand exactly what the output is, you're fine. After that it's about memorizing what you need.

Hi, translatorfag here. I could probably weigh in on this debate a bit.

When you learn a language, one thing is grammar and the other is vocabulary. This goes pretty 1:1 into programming.

if 1+1 == True:
print "faggot"
else:
print "Fuck off"

This is what a translatologist (a fucking cunt) would call a text. It has certain vocabulary specific to programming language (print, else, if), but it also has some rules (colon after an if/else, quotes around strings). The vocabulary can be as esoteric as the language permits, but once you get the grammar right, you can just learn new vocabulary.

This is difficult to grasp, because (in regular language) you can't have grammar without vocabulary. But in programming, this is what you learn, grammar. Just like the third person of a verb in English ends in "s" (usually), you have to type a colon after an if statement. The statement could be anything you want, but it still is just plain grammar with a single small word.

Functions are a great example, because you can see what goes into them.

INTERLUDE: For an esoteric language, consider brainfuck: You get an amount of cells with 0's. You get a way to move around, add, subtract and do various other shit with the numbers. 8 commands is all you get and you learn how to use them. That's pure grammar. You could learn vocabulary, in this case they would be long strings of >><<+--->>>-, but with enough time you can get the result through trial and error. No vocabulary, just grammar.

In conclusion, once you can modify/understand a piece of code handed to you (just like asking someone for a word in German and then correctly molding it to fit a sentence), it's all smooth sailing from there. Try frankensteining something from other programs in a lang you want. Good training.
>>
>>60418181
unplug the fucking webcam if you're not using it.
change passwords for everything as soon as possible.
a rat is just that. It gives root access to the attacker, so consider him a "sysadmin" of sorts. You need to restrict access from your sysadmin. What do you do? Change all passwords, reinstall the OS, start over if you aren't sure you removed it.

SSDs are only going to wear out from writes, which will hardly happen when the machine is idle.

>>60416945
Yeah, you can safely average 50GB writes a day, every day, for over 10 years at this point:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7173/samsung-ssd-840-evo-review-120gb-250gb-500gb-750gb-1tb-models-tested/3

Unless you are doing something enterprise-y like running a busy database, or using it as write cache for a busy file server, you pretty much won't kill the drive from writes. That said, I have seen SSDs die in scenarios like that in ~2 years of use. The real nasty thing about that is, you'll typically have about the same amount of write on all drives a in machine, so they will all fail at almost the same time. RAID won't help you in that case.

>>
>>60419265
It might a little but only for reading data. Reinstalling the OS will refresh all the data on the drive. This means the zeros will be very "zero" and the ones very "one". The firmware on the drive will have an easier time reading the data. This will result in fewer correctable read errors and retries by the hard drive controller which are transparent to the OS, but slow down your read speed. This can help will your boot, login, and app startup speeds, but it won't speed anything else up. That said, it would better to get a new laptop and/or SSD.

>>60419447
^ That's how hard drives work.
>>
>>60419831
It does not matter how much data you have or where it is on the hard drive,that matters.
Your perceived "slowness" is not the written data on your hard drive.
>>
>>60419853
Like it said, refreshing the data can help with read speeds a little thus helping with some cases. Once the data is read into memory, it makes no difference.

I've been out of the webdev loop for a while.

If Im not looking to build a full web app, but instead want to build a mostly static website for a business (about 10-15 pages), what are my options in ways of a framework? I'd like to have a general template (a lot of the pages will look the same and share most css) but full control of how everything is displayed on a page by page basis through code

Last time I had to do this was years ago and I used Drupal. But I'd rather not touch php. Django seems like it could possibly be a good but also kind of heavy weight.

I know I could just write everything in straight HTML, CSS, and JS but that seems like a recipe for disaster.
>>
>>60419893
No.

Thats not how hard drives work.
Thats now how filesystems work
They dont care about "freshness"
My 100tb raid array is normally ~90% full.There is no speed decrease
My system ssd's Raid-1's are 80% full,there is no speed decrease.

What you are a talking about is a common misconception within the windows community.That says reinstalling makes everything "faster".

I'm having trouble with DS4Windows. It's picking up my controller's inputs, and I can use the touch pad to move the cursor around, but games themselves just don't pick up any of my inputs. I don't think it's an issue with the drivers, and this only happens when I have "Hide DS4 Controller" selected. Turning that option off isn't a viable fix, of course, as doing so causes a slew of other in-game issues, namely with control stick inputs.

Any advice?

this is so weird. It seems to be like a utorrent 2.2.1 that'll update eventually in like a year.

i guess. I'll probably still need to use Classic Theme Restorer to get the old look on whatever offensive excuse for a browse Mozilla releases these days though.

Yeah, sorry. I went ask for a sec and wanted to smash my head against the wall after I got what you meant.

Never seen anyone abbreviate it that way before. I was cucked by the softer theme for Firefox for years until a random visit to /g/ showed me that addon. Anyone I know using Firefox today would never've known of it.

Anyone has that image where a girl asks "What should a lovely girlfriend gift to his boyfriend" and one guy replies a blowjob, then later on says "Why is it so hard for a loving girlfriend to give a blowjob"?

So for some reason, I have had 0 audio playback today. Right now I'm using my old TV as both my secondary monitor and speakers. Tried restarting and that didn't fix it. For some reason, "razer surround audio controller" is listed in my playback devices list even though the only razer product I own is a keyboard (I know) which is currently in use, and this audio controller was set to default for some reason. I disabled it which then caused my HDMI listing to become a default device, but I'm still not getting any audio.

Ran the audio troubleshooter and it claims the device isn't plugged in, except it is definitely plugged in as the display is turned on and audio issues aside is working as normal. Unplugging and plugging the HDMI cables back into their ports didn't change anything. I'm on Windows 7 and the only changes I've made recently are blocking ports 139 and 445, installed some new Windows updates, and an Nvidia display driver update. What can I try to do to fix this?
>>
>>60421979
Did you try turning it off and on?

Windows 7 keeps giving me these pop-up messages that say "Your hardware is not supported on this version of Windows." or something similar. Apparently I need W10 to use my processor properly.

Is this horseshit or would getting W10 actually make a difference? (Aside from the obvious OS change)

I have an i5-7500 @ 3.4GHz

If it is horseshit, how do I stop this thing popping up? It's infuriating.
>>
>>60421979
Try changing the cable, plugging the monitor out of the socket and wait 2mins + check the default input and output devices to make sure none can take exclusive ownership over the permissions to use the hardware
>>
>>60422062
Of course.

I'll have to try that. Thank you.

Is there a way to replace a .exe while it is currently running? (With the intention of replacing it with a symlink to itself on another drive when it's done copying there.)

Thought it'd be neat to make a script so I can play a game while I am moving it to my SSD and have execution seamlessly move over there when it's ready but had a hard time figuring out how to make this part work.

Can anyone point to a retard friendly guide for Windows Firefwall? I want to block everything not needed, supposedly it does that already by default but seeing as SMB and port 445 were "needed" I have my doubts about its efficiency.

Also someone mentioned blocking port 445 on Windows firewall, I already did but the portnis still listening on netstat, the PID using it is PID 4 or svchost.exe or something like that, probably system related so I don't think killing it is a good idea. But since it was blocked in the Firewall there should be no issue right? It's open because smb and printer&file sharing have many components and some are still running but since I already disabled smb1 and blocked 445 there should be no risk amirite? It seems to be a pain in the ass to actually disable it.

So I made this post earlier today:

>>>/int/74898641

I mentioned "There was one blonde girl that was somewhat popular because of her blog, but she had large implants."

Now, I went on facebook tonight and at the top of my feed is something this woman liked. I have not seen a post from her in probably 3 years in my feed.

Doesn't it seem awfully coincidental that I made a vague reference to this woman on my computer and then she shows up in my facebook feed a couple of hours later? And the unnerving thing to me is I didn't even mention her name, just a description.

Is there some way to remove mats from longhair cats that actually works and isn't painful for the cat? I used to cut them off with scissors until someone told me this is dangerous and you can easily cut the skin by accident so I'm not sure what to do now. Cat isn't matted at the moment but sometimes they will creep up and then they just get bigger and bigger if left alone.

So I am learning Java and I got this problem I want to solve.
My program can now read the content of .txt-files.
In the file are various numbers (negative, positive and zeros).
I have succeeded in distinguishing the types of numbers and ignoring the zeros.

My question now is: How can I count the different numbers in each category(negative_numbers and positive_numbers)?
Thanks in advance.

This logic looks weird, I'm not sure about the if conditions and the x+1 thing.

To answer the question: Use counter variables.
int negative = 0;
int positive = 0;
while(In.available() !=0){
int x = In.readInt();

if ( x < 0 ){
System.out.println("Anzahl negativer Zahlen:" + x+1);
negative = negative + 1;
}
if ( x > 1){
System.out.println("Anzahl positiver Zahlen:" + x+1);
positive = positive + 1;
}

}
>>
>>60423522
Sorry, the x+1 should've been just x.
About the conditions: It's as it is in my previous post. I don't know how to describe them in a better way.

Anyway, I tried your method of counting but it doesn't seem to work. The terminal shows me the numbers but not how many of the numbers are either positive or negative.

Where do people get torrents from now that tpb and kickass are gone?
>>
>>60423657

You need to print the negative and positive variables when the while loop finishes.

Right now the program just counts the numbers. It doesn't tell you the result when it finishes counting.
>>
>>60423681
>>60423657
Something like this:

public class Zahlenstatistik {

public static void main (String args[]) {

In.open("Sequence01.txt");
int positiveCounter = 0;
int negativeCounter = 0;

while(In.available() !=0){
int x = In.readInt();
if ( x < 0 ){
System.out.println("Anzahl negativer Zahlen:" + x);
negativeCounter = negativeCounter + 1;
}
if ( x > 1){
System.out.println("Anzahl positiver Zahlen:" + x+1);
positiveCounter = positiveCounter + 1;
}

}

System.out.println("Amount of positive negative numbers: " + negativeCounter);
System.out.println("Amount of positive positive numbers: " + positiveCounter);
}
}
