How would a decentralized internet even work?

We need to stop supporting cable and telco companies.

They have a monopoly on data delivery.
>>
>>60303398

How else should data be transmitted?
>>
>>60303440
Some third party companies need to step in.

Telco/Cable Co have wires dating back to 100 years and they sell you ISP services through that and until we get rid of it, they have total control.

Google tried with fibre, but that's not available everywhere.

Satellite ISPs are too slow btw.
>>
The internet is already decentralized. If you mean a distributed www, look into freenet and ipfs.

it only works with a good lossless compression algo

Like it did when it was just a bunch of guys running websites from their Mom's basements.

This guy fucks.

Wi-Fi webs. Wouldn't work for people who live in the middle of nowhere like me, though.

community owned infrastructure

capitalism can never deliver freedom... by definition it has to make as much money as possible to deliver as little as possible... the internet cannot wait around for that horseshit

Why would you support the System that primary Focus is to make them richer and hate them at the same time?
>>

If internet is necessary to live in the modern age then a govt by the people and for the people should handle the last mile and long haul interconnects without any additional cost.
>>

Jews only like centralized banking, not necessarily capitalism.
But, since you are an unironic communist I guess I can't expect much from you.
>>
>>60303939
capitalism always delivers freedom. take america for example (inb4 muh not real capitalism fallacy). America is a capitalistic system and it is the free-est nation on earth. Capitalism (also inb4) has never been free and never will be.

> unlicensed

The shit that's leftover you mean? Mesh nets are the future, but to be viable they will require 5g bandwidth and that requires multiple frequency bands that aren't line-of-sight...pretty much all of which have been sold to the highest bidder.

The only way for people to wrest control of the web from the pay-to-players is a mesh net with open source "illegal" 5g radios -- so many of them that the FCC cannot stop them and they have no choice but to bow down.

RameshNET?

thanks

I'm here every night
>>
>>60305515
There's a town in VA that uses unlicensed spectrum for internet, but it's used at their town library or internet cafe

I don't see how using the lower unlicensed frequencies would be an issue, there is still plenty of lower end available to use
>>
>>60305536
Lower the frequency, lower the connection speed
>>
>>60305575
Hmm, wouldn't there be unlicensed spectrum near band 2? But the article stated they didn't have any speed related issues using the unused TV spectrum
>>
Basically the same way as now, but you just don't go through ISP built lines.
So way fucking worse.

What exactly do you think ISPs are?
How do you think the internet works?

Why are there no 5+ ghz frequencies? Why not 50?

You get these things called routers, and when one router goes offline another best route is chosen to get to its destination.

The only things you need for proper decentralization is a new DNS.

>>
>>60305575
You couldn't be any more incorrect.
Most cellular companies provide theoretical broadband speeds in the sub 1ghz range.

The relationship between frequency and speed isnt related in any way, it's to do with ease of data transmission relative to range. If you're right next to the device then crank that shit up to 100ghz
If you're 5 miles away then you're going to be dealing with <800mhz ranges
>>
>>60305662
How would new dns prevent isps behaving like assholes they are now?

>How would a decentralized internet even work?
Like another layer on our current internet
Check out Maidsafe:
>Rather than using data centres and servers common within today’s internet, which are prone to data theft and surveillance, the SAFE Network uses advanced P2P technology, that joins together the spare computing capacity of all SAFE users, creating a global network. You can think of SAFE as a crowd sourced internet. It is on this network that everyone’s data and applications reside.
>>
>>60303541
Maidsafe is actually very similar to this ;)
>>
>>60305505
jesus christ this is your brain on neoliberalism
>>
>>60305692
Another route to the destination, thats what routers do. You just need more routers.
>>
>>60305692
>>60306053
Forgot to say, ISP's dont control the DNS, they just control the route.
>>
>>60303393
>How would a decentralized internet even work?
Globally distributed Mesh Network. Or lots of small mesh networks connected as individual cells to other mesh network "cells". Basically similar to the way BGP connects Autonomous Systems to each other.
>>
>>60306061
Well gee and would new dns stop isps controlling the routes
>>
>>60305738
You say that like there's any other kind of burger.
>>
a fully free internet would involve using weather balloons as routers.

since theyre in the air, people on the ground will still have LOS with them, and they will have LOS with each other.

They'll need to be solar powered and will only have a certain lifespan before needing to be replaced

Current DNS is not encrypted and is typically owned by the ISP. Changing your DNS is simple enough, changing your route to the rest of the web isn't a possibility.
>>
>>60305683

> relationship between speed and frequency isn't related

Umm, yeah, no kid.
>>
>>60306167
>Current DNS is not encrypted and is typically owned by the ISP
What do you mean by this? Are you talking about a standard name server? Because those can be owned by anybody, including yourself if you set it up right.

But as far as the actual root DNS servers for the entire world go, those are owned by a handful of companies (can't recall their names), and domain names themselves are delegated via companies as well. The ISP's don't own those things.

it uses radio waves not lasers
kys
>>
It's a tv show, not a documentary.
>>
I see google and Facebook as a more perverse centralisation than telecoms.

Facebook is starting to creak, heave and break though. If something thats a little more easy than diaspora comes along i can see Facebook fragmenting and being taken over by smaller user/co-opratively owned social networks.
>>
>>60306512
>this is what burgers actually believe
Last I checked I can deploy my own ISP if I want and am not forced into a state sponsored monopoly.

Hell some people actually do do that.

Meanwhile you're not allowed to build local infrastructure 'cause that wouldn't be fair to AT&T.
