Yes. It's not really full PS1 emulation though, they both have PSP was created with PS1 playback in mind and have the same processor architecture. Also general rule of thumb is that you want your system to be 10x as powerful as the one you're emulating so it's very possible that the PSP couldn't even come close to emulating SNES games and still be more powerful than the SNES. Plus regular SNES games run fine, it's the mode 7 games with the additional coprocessor in the cartridge that give the PSP issues.

I miss my PSP so much.

I actually haxxed it with a Pandora battery and had a shit ton of free games on it.

I actually gave it away to a friend to give to his little brother for a holiday as a gift, thought it would be nice since they were somehow broker than me and the little guy needed a gift.

I almost instantly regretted it. Within a week he somehow managed to play around with system settings and bricked the damn thing.

After he bricked it they asked me to fix it, and the whole time I was on their PC fixing the shit he kept saying I ruined the PSP and that I didn't know what I was doing; mind you I used the modded PSP for like a year.

I ended up fixing it with no thank yous, and about a week later the little fuck broke the screen.

I regret ever giving that PSP away. MOTHER FUCK that little kid.

PSP is a pretty decent console, but it was only a good emulation console because there was no proper alternative. PS1 emulation on it was remarkable compared to anything else for a long time, but GBA / SNES was roughly equal or worse.

A few weeks ago I tried playing some Golden Sun on that thing and I have to say, it would have been really comfortable if it weren't for the mad frameskipping involved with the only emulator that doesn't fuck up too much with that game.

Also one of the best things about the PSP is that it's not too hard to take out the UMD drive entirely, and the console won't complain. You get a lighter PSP as well.

Yes these are ports. Some of them are notorious for being shit but that has to do with the porting studio doing a shitty job. The vita is capable of running these games when the right studio like Atlus and Netherrelm produce the games. But the vita is dead at this point because sony doesnt give a shit.
