For me it would depend on how much better the next one is compared to 3T. If there was a hundred dollar price difference but the improvements seemed worthwhile enough, I would probably get the newer one. I had an HTC 10, I would strongly recommend against it. I didn't do any custom rom shit, but had disk encryption enabled. They did a lockscreen update about a month ago, which forced a factory reset. Because everything was encrypted I couldn't recover anything.

They also use proprietary encryption (so not just luks + dmcrypt), so if you use Viper or the stock ROM you're gonna have a bad time when you need to unencrypt in TWRP.

The only thing that my HTC 10 didn't do was catch on fire. I'd have to say though, I wouldn't be surprised if it eventually does. I replaced it with a OP3T though, which has so far been better on the software side of things.

AOSPExtended rom is the most stable Nougat currently for Redmi Note and it's flawless on my Note 4X.

As for the phone itself I've got the black version, build quality is fantastic for the money, the screen brightness and sunlight legibility is great, and ditching MIUI for AOSPE fixed the homescreen redraw and app killing issues. Battery life is ridiculous. Highly recommend

So i am due for an upgrade from my LG G4 and honestly i can't really see anything on the market that seems like a real upgrade.

I've swapped the battery to an extended one because I prefer to have 3x battery than have a phone that charges 3x faster.

I would say no. Lenovo are shutting down their other brands and focusing just on Moto. Meaning updates/patches/support will dry up a lot sooner on it than on a Moto, especially a G5/G5 plus. I'm using lineage os and the battery life went from over 7 hrs SOT with stock rom to less than 5. And from what I've read there's not really any other ROMs that get you battery life close to stock since they are all based of lineage. Its a much better software experience obviously but you'll have to trade off the battery life and the camera is much worse as well.
