Looking to get a budget android phone in the UK. Not looking to use custom rom or anything fancy.

So I'm trying to buy a OP3T in the UK for as cheap as possible. A lot of sites that are selling them for fairly cheap are also advertising them as "Flashed OS" (See pic). What would this mean for me if I'm on EE (/T-Mobile), is it safe to buy? Thank you

2014 model, gimmicky second screen. SD801 SoC is getting long in the tooth and you definitely won't see official updates for it, and custom support depends on unlockability of the bootloader and interest in the device. Plus they need to do something about that secondary screen which will slow down efforts. You'd be better off with an S5 if you can one where you can get custom software on it, or Nexus 5 (2013) but that has even worse battery life than the Yotaphone. These are all like ultimate poorfag phones because they're all outdated with an 800/801 in it. It was a good SoC, just old.

>>60162822
They'd need to do like a VPN on Android. I believe that this was the case for their enterprise stuff back in the day, but no longer.

>>60163416

>>60166629
BBOS (aka QNX) was good but its dead, Android is the future. KeyOne is expensive for what it is, but pretty much your only option for a phone with a keyboard. Passport is pretty old now, your problem is similar to the Yotaphone guy, it's a phone from 20-dickety-14 with an 801 inside. Plus it doesn't run Android apps natively, I couldn't find anything about "android support" ending, but I did find out that WhatsApp is discontinuing support in June for BBOS.

>Enjoy losing your cards, cash, and phone in one go.
I know I won't. I only use the phone's wallet case for the actual phone. It protects the screen when it's in a pocket and it acts as a stand when I need that to watch something on the train or bus or similar. I have a separate card holder case for my cards and another wallet for cash. I've done it this way since before cellphones had touchscreens, I've always liked having cards separate from the wallet with coins and bills.

But I - quite frankly - don't see how this makes any difference at all in a lot of situations. If I'm robbed by a gang of sandniggers in an alley then I'll probably lose the wallet and the card holder and the phone and the phones's wallet case in one go anyway.

IF YOU WANT TO BUY A MOTO G5 PLUS AND LIVE IN THE US, try to get best buy to price match the prime exclusive price available at Amazon. Today I was able to get best buy to price match the 64gb version of the Moto G5 Plus for $239.99

I originally didn't mind buying the ad version until I read that I had to press the fingerprint scanner two times to get to the home screen. And there's no way to disable lockscreen ads yet. I wouldn't wait to long to do this though. Best buy might catch on to this soon.

Can anyone recommend a good phone to take internationally with me? Ideally I want a giant battery strapped to a good camera and an antenna that can use most international frequencies. So i ordered the redmi note 4 from chinks. I simply couldn't resist the 1/2 price they sell it for there.

I now pray that none of two following problems occur:
- the border control plebs stop it and tax it (they acn check packages at random so my chances are 50/50, if they do i will pay $25 in tax which is nothing but holy shit the paperwork to clear customs would take me forever
- it arrives broken, and getting a refund or a repair from the chink store is always a nightmare and it always takes months and months

Please my qt animu waifu, don't let me be one of those 1% unlucky cunts of experience these problems

Mi line is the flagshipt line with all the good stuff.
They also make a line of phones for poorfags, the redmi line and the redmi note line.
Redmi and redmi notes use the cheapest components. This means that they have for example certain camera sensors in stock and use them for one batch of phones, but then they buy other sensors at a discout from other corporations and use those.
You can find solace in knowing that you own a cool macgyver phone

How does one sell their old phone?

I'm getting the LG G6 in a couple of days and I want to get rid of my G4 before the value drops even further. (I hate how fast LG's drop in price but damn I love their phones)

I've tried advertising it on normiebook but all I got was lowballing whiners wanting 'mates rates'.
I think my asking price is of £150 is fair (I'd go as low as £120-130 for a quick sale)
It's open to any network and in excellent condition, with the original box.
Cex and Graingergames are only offering £100 based on their websites.

I'm wary of using ebay because of all the scammers out there.

That's a decent price considering what they are charging for new Pixel XLs (£719 on carphone warehouse)

You'll want to make sure that the phone works with your SIM card. In Canada, phones can become blacklisted if they are reported lost or stolen, and thus won't work on cellular networks. That and the general condition of the phone would be the two things to look out for here, I don't know if the UK has a country wide blacklist like Canada.

I haven't bought any phones with cash from strangers, but I have sold a fair amount of them. Usually lower value phones so it's less of a risk, but I haven't had any problems. You can meet them at a police station (some have cameras set up in the parking lot for this reason) if you're paranoid, but it usually isn't a problem.
>>
>>60181829
Thanks, that's a good call about testing the SIM.

I'm not worried about my safety, I'd refuse to meet anywhere other than a public spot and I'd never get in a car/follow them some place else. It's more the fear that they've sold me a really good knockoff/fake, though I'm not sure there are such things as truly convincing flag-ship fakes.
>>
>>60181702
Here's some advice from someone who works in a second hand shop:

Don't buy a phone from a stranger unless they have proof that they bought the phone outright with cash (not credit). As you probably know, if they got the phone on contract, they do not technically own it. If they sell it to you and decide they don't want to keep up with their contract payments, the phone will get blocked and you'll be shit out of luck. You don't get any warranty when buying from a random shitmuncher, and good luck getting them done in small claims court.

I use a website called Checkmend to find out whether phones are blocked, reported stolen or on contract.

tl;dr Don't trust anyone, especially working class white people.

Thanks, I've just asked for the IMEI number. Do you think anything in the Ad jumps out as suspicious?

"Google Pixel XL, 32GB, in great condition with original packaging, charger and leads as you can see in the photos. This was a direct purchase from Google so is factory unlocked for use on any UK network. This is a superb phone and is currently out of stock at Google and only available from EE in the UK. I'm only selling as I prefer IOS and have gone back to my iPhone after light use of this for a couple of months only - has always been in a case (which I am also including in the sale), the scree is in perfect condition - no scratches or marks whatsoever. These retail for well over £700 on the Google store and there is currently a waiting list for this model! Cash only, no exchanges. Grab a great phone and a great bargain! "

I've already asked and he can't provide a receipt as he threw it away as he wasn't expecting he'd sell it on. Thanks anon.
>>
>>60182443
I should also add, I've just done a one-off check with Checkmend and it's come up as all clear. Is this generally a pretty safe bet?
>>
>>60182639
>I've already asked and he can't provide a receipt as he threw it away as he wasn't expecting he'd sell it on.

Yeah that's total bullshit. Who throws away a receipt for a purchase over £500 within a couple of months? He should still be able to show you the purchase on a screenshot of his bank statements, which he should have no issue providing if he's legit.

Maybe I'm just suspicious because I deal with crack heads trying to sell brand new iPhones every day.

Unfortunately Checkmend isn't foolproof, it just tells you if the phone is on asset watch (from somewhere like Bright House) or if it's ever been blocked. It could still get blocked in the future.

My gut is telling me you should steer clear of this sale anon. Like I said, you've got no warranty or insurance if this guy turns out to be a piece of shit.

Selling your old phone is a scam, keep it as a backup or turn it into something else like a remote if it has a IR sensor or a music player.

>>60187712
Yes, some of the sellers are dodgy cunts so beware. Look at TechTablets YT channel for recommended sellers.

Need a recommendation:

>USA
>T-Mobile (want band 12 support)

Wanted:
>Long ass battery life/huge ass battery
>Good community support
>Good camera
>SD card slot
>Fingerprint reader
>5" or LESS (if possible)

Budget is US$300-ish.
>>
>>60171200
Same, I have the z1c and I'd like to upgrade my phone this year and except for the shitty camera this phone has un quite satisfied with Sony.

Buying a cheap as shit store bought phone in NZ. (Can't be bothered shipping a chinkphone over)

The ones I'm looking at so far:
-Vodafone Smart Mini 7
~1.3GHz Quad Core
~4GB Storage
~Android 6.0
~1500 mAh battery

-Huawei y3
~IPS screen
~1.2GHz Quad core
~4GB Storage
~Android 4.4
~1730 mAh Battery

Do you have any advice for me, such as the possibility (or lack of) of root/custom roms, or even a simple tip like "Don't fucking buy that retard".
Consider that I'm only really planning to use lightweight FOSS apps and listen to music.
>>
>>60189761
Seriously, just don't.
Get on eBay and find an old gen flagship like LG G2 or galaxy S4/5 or something. The user experience will be infinitely less frustrating.

>6 months before it completely dies
this actually seems plausible

>>60189790
To put what I'm looking for in perspective
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_young_s6310-5280.php
this was the phone I was using a couple days ago, and would still be if it hadn't died on me.

I don't really want to pay $150-$300 for a phone I'm going to pretty much be using as an mp3 player, I just want it not to do
>6 months before it completely dies
this

Last time I bought a budget phone, it lasted me 5 years, but if you seriously think the build quality of these budget phones is that bad, I guess I'll go with the s4.
>>
>>60171200
XA is ok/ good on outside/ daylight shots. It takes a huge dump on photo quality in indoor shoots or night shots.
>>
>>60189655
Superior phone, unless custom roms are your priority in which case it's probably easier on the one plus. gf has an s7e and I'm genuinely jelly, but I like to have a great camera to capture special moments so maybe that's not your priority
>>
>>60190162
If my only priorities are longevity/speed and battery life then which is best? As long as the phone gets me through the next 2 years I'm happy. So oneplus cutting support at the end of the year shouldn't affect me too much.

Should I still definitely get the S7? I really couldn't care less about the camera btw
>>
>>60177874
>>60177888
jfc

But is the 720p resolution really noticeable on a 5.5" screen? I'm looking at budget phones atm to get me through at least the next 12 months and I've never even considered the J7 before.
>>
>>60171200
Design is amazing but battery life is shockingly bad apparently. A friend had one for three months before selling it.
>>
>>60190260
Her phone runs smoothly with no issues so on that experience I'd say the s7, but really either one will last you two years
I think one may have more ram, can't remember so there's that
>>
>>60190261
no, it's a great inexpensive phone. absolutely recommend it
>>
Moving away for work for a few months and I want to get a better phone so I can video chat with the gf.

Are there any solid options for good quality front facing cameras around $200? Other than that the phone will basically be an mp3 player.

Where the fuck does one go to download free android games that are hacked for infinite iap and shit like that, maxed out whatever? Where do you go to pirate android shit in general?

For example, I'm trying to find fruit fucking ninja, just with all blades, all backgrounds, no ads, all that shit, like the most popular thing and I can't find it. SURELY, it exists.
>>
>>60190740
nobody cares about this shit so it's not as easy as pirating full PC games just due to obscurity/indifference

I bought the Huawei P10 Plus as in the UK it's better than the Samsung S8. Have I fucked up? It seems pretty great.
>>
>>60190911

It's ok, I think pack 2 has what I want and that was just an example. But if I can't find one of the most popular ones alone easily just seems absurd. It's just weird that people don't give a fuck and just seed a mega pack when it's so easy to pirate on android.

I didn't look before getting my first phone at 21 (was r9k tier before but now I need one cause I got 3 friends and want to meet more and hopefully girls), I was expecting hundreds if not thousands of seeds for the most popular games at least. Bah, the mega packs combined have 150+ games, more than enough for bullshit pickup and play normie machine.

>>
>>60192656
an apk is inherently unsafe and if you sideload one you should assume that your device is compromised. The only incentive anyone has to release binaries is to own your box (phone in this case). Anyone who says otherwise is dumb or a shill.

I'm just envious of the small size of the SE. The 6s Plus has curved edges which are fucking annoying. I have at least medium-size hands and it's difficult or uncomfortable to use one-handed.

>>60190593
No it wouldn't be, although if it's just for Snapchat and social media you can buy cheaper phones

I know it's probably not the norm here but I'm pretty good with women and I never get them used to expect material things from me like phones. You set a certain amount of expectation and it just doesn't suit the kind of woman I like, so it's just advice but it's obviously your life
>>
>>60193020
Thanks man but I've been with mine for 10 years already and I know how it goes, she doesn't expect anything in a materialistic way, I honestly just like the SE and she needs a phone. It pretty much doesn't matter though, I'm happy with either phone and so is she heh

Might not even buy it yet, idk. We'll see. Trying to convince her that a more conservative colour will hold its value better than pink or gold...

Dude, just pony up the dough and get a real phone. Cheaping out but spending 30-50% is just a bad life choice. You can even get a 128GB iPhone SE as was mentioned above for $260 shipped. Don't plunk down more than $50-75 on a shit phone.

charge as much as you can, draining it to below ±20% isn't good. don't leave it at 100% for too long. Try to keep it between 85% and 35% if your battery size/your routine allows it. Just do a full charge/discharge every few weeks so that your battery percentage stays calibrated.

quick charge isn't that bad if your battery doesn't heat up to ridiculous temperatures. I think it's probably better to top up your battery to 80-90% with QC every morning than to plug in a slightly slower charger and have the phone at 100% for 5 hours during the night.
>>
>>60193815
Do you have any sauce for this? It's easy to keep something at 100% and easy to avoid 0% but hard to keep it at 85% or avoid 100% for long periods
>>

battery university and random articles that all basically say what I say to some extent. 85% is not really the optimal storage percentage, but something I pulled out of my ass as a compromise between your phone not lasting very long and leaving it to charge to 100%.
85% is what I recommend you start your day with if possible. It's not that hard to charge your phone to around 80% and stop because you can just plug it into a quick charger when you wake up and then grab the phone when you leave.

I charged my old LG G2 overnight many times, and it only started to get noticably worse after 2.5 years or so, so maybe you shouldn't really worry about it desu

>>
>>60194954
my point is that it shouldn't stay at a too high percentage for too long. so if you can, you should reduce the starting percentage a bit and/or keep the charging close to the actual usage (ie no overnight charging if possible)
>>
>>60195118
Why is keeping it at 100% bad?
