you're probably reacting to the people more than you are to the straps themselves. they're normally worn by the sort of dudes who leave their shirt cuffs covering up part of the watch in wrist shots, rave about rusty old ebay seikos, and wear thick plastic framed glasses. it's a shame because the straps themselves aren't so bad, but it's almost impossible not to react with disgust to the sort of people who normally wear them.

Its a verified store with many sales. What am I walking into?

At that price point, might as well get a brand new one from germany for 11k€

Not worth it. For that money, fly to Switzerland and buy one locally from a second hand dealer. I was stupid in my younger years. People offered me Pateks and Rolexes instead of payment for work but I was too money hungry at the time to see their value.

The last watch I bought was my 7018, which happened to be bought on Y! Auctions Japan. Incredibly risky, total pain in the ass, but the savings over all the fuckers charging $700+ for these things on eBay made its all completely worth it.

How is our watchmaker doing, btw? I haven't been back to Toronto since July of last year so it's been a long ass time since I've seen him.

In case you are talking to me I got from an eBay auction for 210€ shipped in excellent condition. I bought it in Germany when I was studying there to a German seller and I can tell you that country is a paradise for slavshit collectors since there are a lot of sellers that only sell within the country. You can get used 3133s for better prices as internationally.

That's always the trade-off with using Yahoo! Japan Auctions vs. using eBay. Much lower prices, but much higher buyer risk.

Our watchmaker is doing alright. I saw him recently to service what was my father's two-tone Rolex Datejust, which I'd had in storage and not been wearing for several years. I recently saw some pics of a two tone DJ on leather and really liked it, so I decided to get it serviced and start wearing it.

Been running nicely since he serviced it. The 3135 is a very nice movement.
>>
>>60021460
That's simple. While Christopher Ward are shitters with derivative designs (in the sense of virtually all of their models being deliberate pasitches of the target genre), at least they are not blatant design copies or the utter design abortions that Steinshit's own designs are.
>>
>>60021678

Those hands are atrocious in and of themselves, and on top of that they don't match those thin stick indices at all.

Also, is there a reason this watch is almost twice the price of that titanium Steinhart?
On paper the Steinhart beats the snot out of it for that price.

Don't come to a watch discussion thread if you don't want to discuss watches.

Chr. Ward vs Steinhart is a pretty fair comparison, they're both known for making pretty cheap homages.

>>60022335
Tegimented cases have their own issues.

The hardening is very superficial, so they suffer what is known as "eggshell" cracks, which are supposedly worse than straight-up gouges.

Your wrist will expand and contract thru the day. Generally if you just set it so when your wrist is expanded it's on the tight side of comfortable that should work.

One way to find that setting would be to set it how you think you might like it, but then if your wrist ever expands so much it's uncomfortable to wear you need to make it 1 setting looser and stay at that setting unless it happens again.

Sinn? That gorgeous little 'go anywhere, do anything watch'? For under $1k?

Dressy enough, tough enough, and something I can wear in the pool? And that dial... Have you seen that dial irl?

and you're really not going to like this part: My wrists are 8 inches. You might think the watch will look 'tiny'. But I'm just not into the gigantic monstrosities that you millennials have embraced.
>>
>>60026949
Because muh tool watches.

They're designed with high contrast/easy readability in mind.
>>
>>60026733
>>60025808
>>60025600
At that point why not make a neat watch with some character instead of some fake that will instantly loose people's respect when they find out what it is?
>>
>>60026758

i bought from watchbuys, zero regrets. having done it once i would only buy a sinn from an AD in the future for the same reason i would only by a casio new from an AD. it's a tool watch and i want it working, so i want the warranty and no questions about whether the previous owner dropped it.

>>60027038

i don't think my 856 came with 8 inches of bracelet. you should check into that.
>>
>>60027072

ps do you think I'll look foolish wearing a 38mm watch for a daily? I'm 6'3" with large wrists. I'm okay with it, I prefer 36-42(MAX)mm.

>>

Fantastic. I like your taste btw, the Sarb035 and 033 are awesome. And for the price! Presage-quality...
>>
>>60027194

the size will be fine.

i am not entirely sure i see the point of the 556i though. it's like an 856 but with everything sinn™ taken out, including most of the dial styling.
>>
>>60027208
It would have been cool to have tegimented steel case/bracelet, I agree.

I'd consider Damasko, but I just can't get over the grey, bead-blasted look (like a car with primer).

Archimede makes a cool little Ickler-hardened Outdoor, but Sinn tops it in the looks department.
>>
>>60027289

as far as i know the tegimented ones are all blasted. i could be wrong.
>>

>. f105w is basically an f91w but with EL instead of LED in the corner, if that is what you are after
except the case is fucking ugly and a completely different design
>>
>>60027936

are you sure you are not confusing the f105w with the f108wh? the differences between the f91w and f105w cases are extremely minor. the most visible difference is in the decal under the crystal.

>>
>>60028020
any major differences between the two from memory? only $4 different on amazon
>>
>>60028043

other than the thickness they look and feel exactly the same to me. the f105w decal has a lot more blue on it but they are essentially the same other than those things and the EL backlight. the straps are identical. the modules are not quite identical (slight differences in alignment of the LCD elements) but the feature set and pusher functions are identical.

you can get exactly the same module in stainless (with or without gold plating) in the a168 series.

>>60029774

>>
>>60029749

As vintage watches age, many components such as hands, crowns, and crystals may become unavailable from the original manufacturer. Over time and through servicing, many of these components may be replaced by a watchmaker simply looking to provide a finished product for his client. As they pass through subsequent owners and more and more components are replaced with aftermarket replacements or “borrowed” pieces, the watch stops being genuine and essentially becomes a Franken.
>>

>>
>>60029865

Yes. Stay away if you can't afford it. Same with expensive cars.
>>
>>60029865
The base amount for a service AP charges is $950, or at least it was when archie got his 14790ST serviced. Add on top of that the components replaced and all the other shit AP charges you, the total was over $3000USD.

Expect AP to absolutely fuck you for service fees.

How do I get water out of the dial? Right now it's in a jar of rice but that does not seem to really do anything other then just concentrate the water to the center of the dial.

Long story short the fucking idiots watchmakers that I gave them the watch to fix the broken glass did a shit job in closing and sealing it as well.
So now I have water all over the dial (from a dip in the pool), there is actually a drop of water on the seconds hand moving with it with each beat...
I dont wanna send it again, as I dont trust anyone of those fucking jews(actually jews) here to actually do a decent job.

Watch is Orient Defender. Can I open it, remove the crown and dial and just wipe/dry it and put it all back? (I build scale models so I have the tools and precision, yet I've never opened a mech/auto watch before)
Will that be enough? and wouldn't the water sitting there impact the lubrication of the entire movement in the long run?

John Mayer – an avid vintage watch collector who has acquired over 100 exceptional timepieces of his favoured manufacturers – recently sued his L.A. based dealer over ‘counterfeit’ Rolex watches caused quite a stir in the collectors’ community, and also brought to light some of the issues surrounding the business of vintage watches.

Essentially, Mayer found out that several of the vintage watches he owned, which he had purchased from his dealer, contained components which were not ‘original’ or ‘authentic’. This assessment came directly from Rolex, known to be very careful in protecting their image, especially when it comes to vintage collectible models.

For vintage collectible watches, authenticity means 100 percent original parts; this is the key factor that ultimately determines the value of the watch. But, authenticity in a vintage piece may be very tricky to both define and establish.

In the past, Rolex outsourced some of their parts from a number of suppliers, which accounts for the minor variations on cases and dials, found mainly on the most popular vintage Submariners and Daytonas from the 1950s and ’60s. These models can be very hard to assess, but fortunately Rolex keeps very good records that watch experts can refer to in order to determine whether a piece is really genuine.

Depends, if it's something you'll be wearing to an office job every day then get black. If you'll never be wearing a shirt just get the white, the black with red is far too serious/nerdy for my taste.

Newfag to /g/ here, and especially to /wt/, but what do y'all think of Invicta? I got a Pro Diver 12561 a few years back that I wear on occasion. Will do a proper pic later but I'm at work right now. I wear a cheap Casio Illuminator for a daily so it absorbs the wear and tear at work. Any thoughts?
>>
>>60034335
Gaudy shit most of them, though people seem to excuse the two-tone prodiver.

Swissfags get triggered from the fact that it's a swiss watch with a miyota drive.

That's why you buy Damasko and don't fall for Sinn tricks. You backed the wrong teutonic horse, bubs.

Friendly reminder that some pernicious faggot jewed Mr. Sinn out of his out company and now it's run with some frankfurtesque faggot's philosophy (frankfurt is the worst german city; worse than anything even in fucking Pomerania lmao).
Never buy Sinn.

With Sinn, you don't win.

White on black dial's objectively easier to see, especially compared to that cream shit with hands at a similar light shade. Militaries figured this shit out well over a century ago; hence all the black dials on issued watches, even pocket watches. My brand of autism doesn't allow for lighter dials and I have worn black, or charcoal, for the past 15 years.

The worst is silver on fucking silver. Impossible to see outside at a glance in bright sunlight. Burn your retinas. Even for a delicate dress watch silver on silver annoys me.
>>
>>60034843
>The worst is silver on fucking silver.
this is why I didnt buy the rhodium version of my watch. no contrast
