Thanks for the non-anime op

No real indication on which why the plugs are supposed to go, they could be put in, in either direction. Plugged them in with the channel indicator facing out, everything seems to be correct when listening to it
>>
>>59874979
Yes goy... I meant guy, an amplfier will change the sound signature massively. You aren't hearing the K712 with that motherboard. Simply, it's designed for gamers and audio quality clearly wasn't a priority. Getting a good amplifier is night and day and will make those K712 sing in ways you never heard it before. You'd be asking yourself, is it the same headphone? The soundstage is probably really impressive that you're hearing but what if I told you an amp can make it even wider with more depth and realism? You probably wouldn't believe me but you need to buy an amplifier. Oh and you need a good DAC as well, and don't forget the final bottleneck, cables. Cables are always important in squeezing that last bit of performance out of your headphones but I usually leave it for last.

Whatever you do, don't jack off in them. It'll ruin the velour and then you'll have to buy replacement pads from ebay only to realize that they don't even fit and then have to get your money back and figure out you can just wash the original pads. Washing the original pads is alright, but I feel like they're not as good as when they were new.

That's fine i guess, i just have trouble with the idea of 700 bucks for extra comfort, but that's subjetive and i haven't test the HD800 yet, so hey, maybe i'll find the comfort worth it too once i do.
I'd probably keep the Stock signature though, i kindda like it bright and spacious.

They are one of the least sensitive pair of headphones currently being manufactured and high on power draw too.

I think this is really telling. There was another anon who found the HD 600s "sensitive" in the last thread. While those are more sensitive than the K612s, they are still way more on the lower side of sensitivity on average and the types of headphones many might require an amplifier for.

Thickness and material change sound. If you were to put on HM5 pads on 7506s, the change would be more drastic than a pad than a pad of similar thickness to stock pads.

Kek'd hard after googling definition.

Just got the HD600s today. I like them a lot but after using the K701s for five years I am still undecided on which I prefer. Have noticed HD600s seem to really excel with any kind of stringed instruments which I am enjoying a lot, for example I listened to Perlman/Levine's recording of Mozart's 3rd Violin Concerto which was utter bliss, had never realised quite how excellent this recording is until today and became completely transfixed in the music.

Regardless of which is better I think the HD600 is more refined and subtle than the K701s and this might well grow on me.

Hey OP, please kill yourself or just fuck off.
>>
>>59877757
Yes, i have the V6 and had to change the pads after mine flaked all the way to till there was no leatherette left, next it was the stitching that went to hell.
The thing is, the flaking already changes the sound a bit since it starts to have less adherence to the skin (once the stitching got fucked all bass was lost on mine).
Got Auray Sheep Skin pads to replace the stock ones, was most worried about durability after seeing what happened but as it turns out they seal better than the original which in turns made my V6 a bit bassier.

I still think they were a fine choice, the sound didn't change enough for me to have problems with it, they are far more durable, a bit more comfortable and actually isolate better.

Oh wow the bass, I wasn't ready for closed. Bass is pretty tight and real punchy. Haven't seen a FR curve but is say it's U shaped. High hats and cymbals really cut though. I like it, but do feel like I'm more listening to the headphones then the music.

Picked up a pair. Pads are comfortable on the ears, clamp is pretty high, good build quality.

I got them grey market for $140 or so. Definitely not worth $300 or so they usually want.

Sound wise, good, bass heavy, but I prefer my X-2s. They're my travel/sleeping wife headphones.

Definitely an upgrade to the MDR-V150, but I think I'd prefer my work 598Cs if I was buying it all over again.

Best closed neutral cans within $100 unless you want to count the NVX XPT100's which are a clone of HM5's for cheaper.
>>
>>59882408
CB-1 has gotten a lot of love in the under $100 closed/neutral recommendations as well lately.

For good reason I think.
>>
How can I tell if Im hearing electrical interference? Is it noise while nothing is playing or the noise during quite parts of music?
>>
>>59882479
Only problem with CB-1's is QC. Once you get a nice pair, they're pretty good over ears for portable use imo.
>>
>>59882479
Neither the HM5 or CB-1 are neutral.
HM5 clamp really hard and have shitty hinges
CB-1 are built like shit
>>
>>59882577
Only heard the CB-1's, but they're decently neutral, especially if they're your first nice headphones. Easily fixed with a bit of EQ too.

Are the HM-5 more sturdy? I got a good pair of CB-1 and they've held up well.

681B is open, and bright with neutral or slightly under neutral bass. 681 EVO is a weird semi-open NiggaBass Cannon. I've had both 668B and 681. Both are fairly bright though 681 might come across as brighter because of the lack of bass to balance it out which the 668B does fine. The 668B lacks bass below 50Hz and is a bit bloated past 50Hz as my Superlux 669's brings out but is still a good headphone for the price.

In reality, your definition of endgame may end at cheap KZ earbuds.

Honestly, just get a good solid set of headphones capable of sub-bass, and EQ them.

I assume you mean that it causes less bass, rather than leaking. Which yes, it does. Lower frequencies need some ammount of pressure to slam properly.

So closed can give you niggerbass but it can be equalized to sound neutral as well.

Many anons report stack actually does these better than fulla2.

Personally, I'd suggest getting the fulla2 first. It's always possible to throw a magni2 in later.

Modi2 provides no actual value against the fulla2 DAC output.

But sure, the uber versions do look good on a desk.
>>
Why use an amp when you can just make the music louder through gain and normalization? Loudness wars really make a difference listening to new music and rereleases
>>
>>59887718
You likely don't need a DAC, it's pure placebo. Just get a lone magni 2
>>
>>59887800
You're gonna need a DAC somewhere, even if it's just a shitty one embedded in your motherboard.

>pure placebo
It's trivial to do DAC right. There's cheap chips that do the job. It's also trivial to fuck it up, even when using one of these chips.

Something like a fulla2 (which conveniently has an amp) ensures this is never an issue. Just use the one in the fulla2, all is good.
>>
>>59886344
>all sound leaks equally
If you meant how much sound radiates out of the enclosure, it would restrict the upper frequencies some.

>>59887718
>I've heard people say that it's not enough to drive the 600's 'properly
Many people also don't know much about audio. The person who replied to you with the mpv capture for instance.
"Properly" doesn't have much of a definition for audio, just one of those audiophile weasel words. The basic requirement is enough voltage output from the amplifier, generally free of artifacts. If it's loud enough, it's fine.
Secondary concerns of low output impedance are minimized with the HD600.

>>59887782
You can't just encode that track to be louder once digital signal level is already at full scale. The extensive of use compressors doesn't change that.

These aren't a replacement heapdhone for my 598s, I just want an over ear headphone to wear in public that sounds decent, doesn't leak much sound and that doesn't look autistic. Does such a headphone exist?
Thanks!

Finally got a pair of HD600s. Initial impressions: not amazing. Basically what I expected, decent all around and no sub-bass with a midbass hump. Mids are great, but the sound is a bit less bodied than the HE-400i also pictured. The slightly rolled off treble makes sibilant songs tolerable so I'm definitely gonna keep these as a lot of idol music is really badly mastered with zero de-essing. Clamp hurts but I don't want to snap the chinkshit plastic.
>>
>>59892839
Use them alone for a week or so. You need to get used to them to stop hearing the cans and start hearing the actual music.

Clamp will quickly loose with use.
>>
>>59893004
No can do. Even if I were to only use them at home, I can't use them portable (PM-3). I can already tell that the HE400i has inferior more splashy treble but the planar bass is just unbeatable.

Also why the fuck do people meme that the HD600 are hard to drive? They're slightly louder than my HE-400i on the magni at the same volume.
>>
I have around $200 to spend, should I get a pair of Sennheiser HD 598's?
>>
>>59893097
>They're slightly louder than my HE-400i on the magni at the same volume.
That means they're less sensitive.

Hard to drive is something else (power they need). HD600 isn't exactly known to be hungry.

>No can do. Even if I were to only use them at home, I can't use them portable (PM-3).
Fine, but you could still try and use them at home. Now, your ears/brain simply expect HE400i and as they get something else, they perceive it as wrong.

Burn-in, psychological, takes time.
>>
>>59893196
HD599 or HD598se are pretty good options on that kind of budget. Comfortable, too. The former is a revision on it which will give you slightly more bass, otherwise the same.

Just beware HD598cs is a completely different thing leeching on the good 598 reputation.
>>
>>59891662
O2 is poorly designed all around and doesn't measure that well. The whole thing is just an elaborate marketing campaign anyway since the designer works for JDS Labs now.

ABOUT to jump in the Meze 99 and they look to be the best bet for about $300 portable cans.

Only worry is that they might be too warm but they should at least be better balanced than something like the Momentum 2.0 for example I had which was just disappointing. If anyone here has another portable alternative in the same price range I can appreciate the suggestion too.

>>59878126
momentum's are really warm I had them consider getting custom built TMA-2 instead
>>
>>59893223
>HD600 isn't exactly known to be hungry.
I mean a lot of people here say the fulla can't power the HD600, which I find sort of hard to believe.
>Fine, but you could still try and use them at home. Now, your ears/brain simply expect HE400i and as they get something else, they perceive it as wrong.
Nonono, I use the K701 for some songs, the 400i for some songs, and the PM3 for some songs. The 400i is just the closest direct contrast to the HD600 I have. I don't doubt I'll find additional songs which I find the HD600s are more enjoyable than my other pairs of headphones over time, but I doubt my initial impressions will change.
>>
>>59887800
How would I even connect the fulla 2 to the magni 2? would I need a left and right stereo to 3.5mm or something?
>>
>>59893284
>and doesn't measure that well
What. You can fault it for some questionable design but it measures amazingly well.
>>
Why should I get a usb DAC insted of pci-e?
>>
>>59893673
Cause there's a shit ton of electricity going through the inside of your computer that can interfere with the sound.

Cheers. I'm tempted to try my fulla 2 with the magni 2 but I can't help but think it would sound exactly the same with my 600's. The fulla 2 is also tiny and doesnt require a power supply. Stacking it with a magni 2 would make it look JUST. But would the possible sound difference be worth an extra £110? I'm not so sure. I guess I'm just looking for some kind of upgrade even though I fucking love my setup.

Anon is saying HD600 is "more sensitive" than the 400i. It is only more sensitive at certain frequency range favorable to loudness.
>power
Doesn't much matter.
>>
>>59893713
What, doesn't everybody do that?

Depending on the songs, favouring one set or another... and trying songs on different sets to "extract" the information from the songs, as they each highlight different traits.
>>
>>59893796
No harm. Fulla 2 is very portable, Magni 2 is more of a desk thing.

I prefer Magni2 on my HD600 for whatever reason.

Colored, fun bass canons. Have that horrible "beyer" treble peak flaw.
>Pro
Uncomfortable. Consider premium.
>HD380 Pro
"Studio Monitors", pretend to be neutral, do pretty well on FR except the bass is somewhat higher than it should be... just not bass canons.
>>
>>59894036
>(HD598) It has a reputation for being overpriced.
Because it has a reputation, it gets a lot of promotions and sales, which leads to a higher regular price.

Easily obtainable at $130 or less, where it's excellent value. At $200, it's more of a bad joke.
>>
>>59894371
>Easily obtainable at $130 or less
If that was an option I wouldn't have spent two weeks being indecisive desu.
>>
>>59894207
Beyer Custom One Pro, for that special snowflake feeling.

>>59894371
558 and 518 get even more of those deals applied to it. Significant difference in price for nearly the same item.

>>59894289
>"beyer" treble peak flaw
The 9-10 kHz peak is endemic to more headphones than not.
>>
>>59894154
But does it actually sound better? I'd rather have a fulla 2 sitting next to my keyboard than a big stack. The volume knob looks nice and hand on the fulla also.
>>
>>59892839
Stretch the metal part of the headband by placing it over lets say a speaker, just slide out the metal part fully and don't go a full retard. Otherwise they loosen up after about 2 weeks but if that won't be enough you will want to stretch them. Also, post more of the comparison to HE 400i fgt.
>>
>>59894289

Looks like premium has less bass because it's more comfortable.

Bass: HE400i wins here no contest. It just sounds so much cleaner and sub bass (50hz and below) is actually a thing on them. The HD600 has decent bass, but with a slight midbass emphasis and obvious sub bass roll off. They're not mud cannons but they're definitely not as good as a planar. Not a big fan. Both have a comparable overall amount of bass.

Mids: I would give a slight edge here to the HD600. The HE400i sounds a bit thicker (because of the upper mids being de-emphasized) which on some songs makes vocals sound fuller but on other songs come off as too thick. Vocals on the HD600 sound thinner at times but more "correct".

Treble: I'd say HD600 takes this one as well by just a hair. The HE400i has somewhat splashy treble, while the HD600 is cleaner and more precise but slightly rolled off. Sibilant recordings sound much better on the HD600 but properly mastered ones will sound slightly better on the 400i.

Soundstage: I think it's cause of the treble and bass roll off but the HD600 has much less sound stage.

I still need to test driver matching.
>>
>>59894465
From the equivalent volume typically 2-3 at the fulla 2 knob upwards, magni 2 does sound better, or rather, fulla 2 does behave oddly, whereas magni 2 continues as if nothing.

If you ever listen to it that loud, you'll see a benefit. Else, unlikely.
>>
>>59894629
Yes. Notice the overall swing range. Your average headphone FR swings farther and is overall more shaky.

No blatant flaws there, no spikes nor dips worth mentioning, slopes are reasonable. The midrange is particularly nice and flat.

>>59895094
That graph is smoothed. Take a look at this one.

(I checked my own pair and it's got no driver matching issues thank goodness)
>>
So I finally got some electrostatics (Stax L300) and I'm fucking addicted to the response time and clarity. I'm a bit of a bass/soundstage fag though. Would the L700s be a step up in sub-bass and soundstage?

Should I:

>Save up for L700 & 353x

>Buy a NFB 28.38 to drive my LCD-2s

>Buy a TH900

>any combination of the above

I can't listen to my LCD2s with this pitiful portable nuforce amp/dac anymore. But I can't find any comparison between the L300/L700. Also, nobody seems to want to compare the electros to the dynamic fostex.

Help me /hpg/
>>
>>59895135
Still pretty good (except the eww driver matching).

More shaky when not smoothed, but it keeps close enough to the average. No crazy spikes or dips.
>>
>>59895281
It's pretty good sure. I'm a big fan of the dip around 6Khz though, cause it makes ear rape songs not so ear rape.
>>
>>59894922
So mememids were true, what about imaging on HE400i? Thanks for impressions in a general full of shitposts and baits.
>>
>>59895496
>in a general full of shitposts and baits.
Fuck you faggot, you know the HD800 is the best headphone out there.
>>
>>59895496
I'd give imaging to the 400i. I think part of it is because it's so open. You can hear a difference when you move put your hand as far as six inches away from the driver. Whereas even if you cup your hands over the HD600, the change in sound is relatively small in comparison.

First time posting in these types of threads, hopefully someone will give me some advice:

I need a new pair of headphones.
I have the budget of $100-130. The source is just a PC with a Realtek ALC892 on board. I might switch to something other later, but not now. I don't really care about them being open or closed, I think. Comfort level is something I would probably want, but I can deal with it if the sound is good. My previous headphones were Sennheiser HD 280 Pro, liked the sound, the way it felt balanced and the overall durability.

Can anyone suggest something that sounds similar, but is, maybe, more comfortable for daily home use?

Same. It seems there's only a bunch of poorfags ITT tho.

Anyway, the people of /g/ seem to be a bunch of fags so I'll go ahead and answer you:
