He reviews watches popular at the moment. When you search for a review of a popular watch he'll be in the first few results, and this keeps perpetuating itself. The more viewed he becomes the higher his videos get on the search results.

Plus he already built up a fanbase of fellow euphoric redditors over the years.
>>
FUCK. I want this.

Longines Conquest VHP. Quartz movement with high precision +-5s/year. Shock and magnetic field protection. Special crown adjustment. Perpetual calendar. End of battery life indicator where the second hand skips 5s. 5 year battery life. 6 month grace period to replace the battery at EOL.

>>59767396
>>59767483

I will give Swatch credit where it is due and say they put actual effort into one of their new models for once.
>>
>>59767528
You can't set the date afaik. But it's perpetual anyway. The downside is that you can't let it run out of battery.

Battery lasts five years, however, and it goes to power-saving mode once the battery reaches a critical point which lets you know you have to replace the battery in six months.
>>
>>59767482
And not surprisingly, very few OC pictures of actual luxury watches to go with those "snob" posts
>>
>>59767533
Unfortunately there has been an influx of shitposters to /wt/ recently who have nothing better to do than shit up these threads. They don't post wrist pics because they don't actually have any nice watches.

Ironically, the posters who actually own high-quality Swiss watches don't shit on Seiko.
>>
>>59767685
That's because lawyerfag hasn't been here recently. He always had some OC of actual luxury watches.

As a watchmaker I don't feel like I actually own a watch unless I can service it myself and be able to order spare parts for it. So that leaves most current mechanical watches out of the question, apart from Vostok, ETA shitters (though not for long), Orient and 7s26 Seikos. For some commonly used movements like the NH35 or Miyota 9015 you can get a whole movement easily, but not really the individual parts.

Anyone have this feel? Also name current brands/mechanical movements that are maintainable by end-users even.

Yeah, I pretty much won the mechanical lottery with that watch. Highest amplitude I've ever seen on a vintage Seiko too, ~280+ dial up on the timegrapher, hitting as much as 310 on the wrist.

With Seiko, you have the exact opposite problem. Getting parts for current movements is easy peasy, getting them for vintage movements is an exercise in fucking frustration.

There is a store in Toronto that stocks all sorts of old Seiko parts, but if I can't find the part there then I have to go searching across the fave of the fucking Earth trying to track them down. Basically my experience there is as follows: got a 6106 or some mass produced 1970s movement like that? You are good to go. Got a 44A? Good luck, cunt.
>>
>>59773485
Would love to, but am working abroad

>>59773539
Three of those are current enough not to be vintage.

To add to the topic, I have no desire to buy modern watches, partly because of corporate policies on spare parts provision and unreasonable service costs through AD's.

Yeah, 42mm. Thing is, I have a 40mm Timex Weekender, and it looks like I may be able to accommodate 2 additional mm, but I'm not entirely sure.
>>
>>59774546
The lug-to-lug width seems short (around 48mm) for a 42mm piece, so the lugs should not hang over your wrist. The slim bezel and the fuckhuge dial are what's going to make it look larger than it is.

If you want the portofino look, go for it, otherwise for the same dial/bezel proportions a 38-40mm diameter case would look better.

Personally, I wouldn't pay Tudor prices for the ETA powered models. Tudor could easily use the ETA 2892-A2 everywhere they currently use the ETA 2824-2 and it would barely affect their margins while being a MUCH better movement. I find the fact that they don't insulting, honestly.

Of course their in-house is another story.

Any strap ideas? My guess is this originally had a bracelet, but it was lost in time. I know /wt/ hates gold bracelets, but what about a full-plated Jubilee or Presidential?

It's not like I can travel back to 1975 and ask the guy I got it from to buy a model with standard lugs. A ton of watches from mid to late 70's had these lugs anyway, it was the fad of the time.

I'm a full on wristlet at 6.5" but would never wear smaller than 41 for a divers. The dial is so small that they look tiny if you go any lower

Nah my 38mm Trident looks okay size wise.
>>
>>59780665
Bit of a cheat picture because it's a close up, from further away something that size will look pretty minuscule. And that's coming from someone who prefers 38mm watches for non-divers.

True but it really doesn't look that small imho. Here is a more head on picture.
>>
>>59780684
The bezel adds to how big a watch looks, just saiyan.
>>
>>59780684
It would probably wear smaller if the bezel was a different colour to the dial.

I take it off while cycling. European cities are riddled with cobblestones
