Thinking about upgrading my 770 to a 1060, do you think the difference in power is worth it? I'm stuck running a lot of things at medium if I want 60fps these days.

So, I have had my Vaio laptop for almost 7 years, back in the day, it was a pretty multimedia laptop and I got it with a discount, so well worth my money:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Sony-Vaio-VPCF127HG.35367.0.html

But recently, it started shutting down when running games I used to be able to run, I even tried to lower the setting but, same happens. It's not due to overheating.

So, now I'm thinking of upgrading/replacing it with this laptop:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/store/d/dell-inspiron-13-5378-signature-edition-2-in-1-pc/926fvsbpqklt/CH30?lc=4105&ranMID=36509&ranEAID=CAqD7bLWUPI&ranSiteID=CAqD7bLWUPI-TIes34snWD5ApJgTLgje7w&tduid=(e585dfd445d958086878c14a0e8a1f3f)(240780)(2316686)(CAqD7bLWUPI-TIes34snWD5ApJgTLgje7w)()

My question is that, will the multimedia capacity of the new laptop be better or at least equal to the old one?

Thank you in advance.
>>
>>59746319
multimedia is such a buzzword its not funny. Any laptop will fine for music and videos. Check the gpu for games. The fact that it used to be able to play those games suggests a dust build up or too much shit on the hard drive.

>>59746346
Hey man, thanks for replying. I only recently opened up the laptop to clean dust/reapply compound, so it cannot be it, I will try to clean the hard-drive, it's at around 45% capacity.

Here is the data on the two GPU, I really can't visualize which one will handle basic gaming better, but I do want to buy a laptop that is at least as good as my 7 years old model.

Also the CPU on the old laptop is an i7-740 QM.
>>
>>59746549
pretty sure those will basically be on par with each other. the new one will obviously have a few more features but it wont translate to better performance.

If its not that it could be a soldering issue perhaps, nothing you can fix realistically

By default the 7700K has an AVX offset of -1, so any programme using AVX instructions will reduce the maximum multiplier by 1 to reduce power consumption and therefore temps. At factory settings this means the maximum boost clock is reduced from 4500mhz to 4400mhz in such programmes.

I need some kind of adapter or something for a 75mm VESA mount that will angle the monitor.

Pic related.

My monitor mount only tilts forward 5 degrees, and I need it to tilt forward at least 15 or so. It'll tilt back 70 degrees, and I don't need that, so even something that adds 30 degrees or more would be usable.

Any suggestions?

>>

No. Wait for aftermarket 1080ti to appear.

Honestly, I don't think it's worth upgrading to a 1080ti from a 1080 at all. Or even a 980ti for that matter. Unless you're running a 970 or lower you might as well wait a generation or two.

Unless of course you're really, really concerned with 4k gaming RIGHT fucking now, in which case you'd still better wait for an aftermarket 1080ti.

Hi /g/ just got a Google Pixel but the USB C port seems loose.

It will disconnect with little force, the cable is still in but if you move it out a millimeter it wont charge.

Is this the way usb c works or should I return it?
>>
>>59756238

Making one is always an option, but that's a lot of fab work for a one-off simple part.

Unless no commercial product exists, or it costs more than $40 or so, it just isn't worth the time to have to go buy a block of aluminum / delrin, cut it down to the right shape, and thread 8 holes.

I would rather throw money at the problem instead of cutting into the limited free time my corporate overlords allow me.
>>
>>59756289
certainly isn't how it works
the USB C port on my 1.5 year old OnePlus 2 is still solid

Firstly, I'd see if you have the same problem with another USB cable. If you do get the same problem, return the phone.

If you aren't getting the same problem, contact the supplier and see if they will send you a new, original google usb type c cable. If they offer anything other than an original cable, return the phone.

I have an old computer sitting running as a plex server. The plex server doesnt get much use so it just sits, its not like there was a gigantic load on the hard drives. Sit and idle, and then play back a movie every other day or so.

It killed TWO different WD blues, and has been great with the HGST.

Im just looking and every seemingly higher end drive has the NAS label on it. Seemed weird

Again, NAS drives are a lot more reliable. They're simply designed better to withstand near-constant use, even if that isn't what they end up being used for. HGST is also a fucking great brand, too. Arguably the best HDD brand

So, you've got some time to figure out how you want to kill yourself once the existential crises hits critical. I suggest an exit bag, or sneaking onto a launchpad just prior to a satellite launch and letting your body get turned into plasma when the main engine ignites.

Depends on your models man, depends on how many triangles you plan on pushing.
How much the computer works should be of little concern compared to how much you're going to work on making crazy hi poly models (which you shouldn't be doing for a single man project).

That's why I'm saying start simple because every hi poly model, landscape etc is exponentially more work to create. And if you actually get to that point then go for buying more specs, but it's not going to help you now

>tl;dr need somebody to reverse engineer Android app and fix a number of problems. $100+ bounty available.

So my partner and I both have these Android 4.4 head units for our cars. They're fantastic units, but the stock software leaves a lot to be desired.

To this end we don't use any of the software provided, save for the functions only available through the MCU (steering wheel controls (SWC), volume control for amp, etc.) As far as I am aware, these are all handled through an APK called JaxSettings.apk.

The primary issues with that are

>SWC ONLY works with the provided music player, which is rubbish.
>Volume control is completely independent of Android volume control.
>Screen can't be turned off independently to the system

Ideally I'd love somebody to map these functions to the standard Android pause/Rwd/FFwd/etc broadcasts so the SWC actually do something.

I've tried asking the seller (pointless exercise) and doing it myself by decompiling and deobfuscating the smali code with APKTool, Virtuous Ten Studio and ClassyShark, but as I've only really got minimal experience with C# and C++ I have no idea what I'm looking at.

I'm willing to put up $100 towards the cause myself, and there are a number of people on XDA with the same unit that would likely put up a bounty as well. The question is, where is the best place to put this bounty and actually get something done about it?

Pic semi related; me trying to port TWRP to the head unit in question. It's not going all that well.

I am not trying to bypass anything. I am not trying to exploit anything.

Instead of right clicking on an executable and clicking "run as administrator" I want a batch file that will do that instead. That's it.
>>
>>59761064
Right-click the .exe and have it run as administrator. Retard.

Jesus fucking christ.

I just want a fucking .bat file that will run an executable as admin. That's all I want. There are literally thousands of forum discussions and tech blog articles that all fucking say "just right click it lol" and nobody seems capable of understanding this very fucking simple question.

>I want a batch file that runs an exe as admin
>"Just right click and hit run as admin"
>"So you want to disable user account control?"
>"Oh you totally want to disable the run as admin prompt, that's what you want, totally."

I'm speaking fucking english here, aren't I? Batch file that runs an executable and requests admin privileges for that executable. I'm not trying to break into the fucking Matrix. Fucking shit.

was i stupid for buying an rx 480 before the 500s came out?

1. Generate batch file with tool

In my closet I have an eeepc 1000hd in like new condition, 2gb ddr2 ram and a 60gb ssd. It runs fine, but struggles with browsing and h.264 playback. Any chance I could replace the internals with say a raspi3?
If so I'd like to replace the screen with something higher resolution than 1024x600.
Just for light browsing, video playback, maybe some torrents

I have an old toshiba satellite laptop that had trouble keeping a charge and had to poistion the port plug in a way to charge. Even changing the battery didn't help. Then it crashed and the Windows DE got all enlarged and froze and then died. Is there any way to get it working? And yes I'm not going to use Windows.

You can use mkvtoolnix to extract the subs, edit in a text editor, and then mux then back in. Some people prefer to leave subs as a separate file.

Video playback, 4chan, and the occasional torrent are too much for it? That 900mhz Celeron m does pretty much everything but h.264 and js-heavy
sites, I was kind of hoping that the rpi3 would do better
>>
>>59761584
Avoid ghostery like the plague. Use Ublock origin. Umatrix is better than noscript, but noscript is easier to learn. If you have a preference for seamonkey, knock yourself out. But vanilla firefox is generally the best from a security/compatibility standpoint.

what? that package has never been installed on this machine

nothing is missing as far as i can tell. I removed mesa-libgl as it was conflicting with mesa - i had downloaded it to get compton to work but decided to keep xcompmgr - but that's it.

again, the issue is weird: urxvt and xrdb show that they are reading the .xdefaults, but their appearance doesn't reflect that.

Why did Assad use chemical weapons in a cvil war he was winning after Trump agreed to let him stay in power knowing that using chemical weapons was one of the only things that would cause the US to intervene against him?

Hard more: You can't state the obvious that rebel scum used the chemicals on themselves.
>>
>>59761590
you need to use something like psiexec -h in the begining of the batch file then
psiexec is from systemtool pckage from MS i think

Transparency is the big one. It's been a long time since I've seen the terminal without transparency, but I'm pretty certain that all the other colors are the same.

>Smells don't attach themselves to a laptop.
They do because all laptops smell like their owners just like every house smells different because of the people living there.

This laptop smelled sweet when it came in but I dread to think what it'll smell like when it leaves here (I've had diarrhea recently too).
>>
>>59761839
You click a button, and a site is excluded. Easy as letting something through with noscript. Ublock and umatrix can be used together, because they focus on different things.
>>
>>59761964
Bring the laptop outside, enjoy an hour of fresh air, then smell it.

>>59761963

Just storing archived games. Game executables need to be run as admin to create save files or even run correctly at times, and pretty much every 'run as admin' solution I've found doesn't carry over when it's archived.

gun vs WRT54G router.gif
2MB, 504x278px
I have an issue that I believe is a problem with my router.
Whenever I torrent multiple things at once my internet goes down. My torrent client will continue chugging along, but I will be unable to connect to any websites even after killing my client. I have to power cycle my router (a WRT54G) to fix this. I did not start having this problem until very recently, and I have been torrenting like mad for years.

Could there be another reason for this, or is my router just outdated? What's a good upgrade that is compatible with DD-WRT?
>>
>>59762592
Too many simultaneous connections, old router.
On router: decrease max ports, decrease TCP &UDP timeouts.
On PC: reduce max number of connections in client
>>
>>59762665
I already significantly decreased the max connections in my torrent client.
How low do you think I should drop the settings on the router itself?

Current settings
Max ports: 1024
TCP timeout: 300 seconds
UDP Timeout: 120 seconds
>>
>>59762592
Use QoS if it's any good on that firmware. just search "dd-wrt torrent QoS" or something.

this will let you atleast browse somewhat while torrenting heavily.

>>59761229
